Charming Croatia: amazing three island boat trip from Trogir

Wow, what a lovely day we just had! Our faces touched by the sun and full of great new memories. We visited the medieval Croatian harbor town Trogir, close to Split airport and NP Krka. Trogir has a relatively small yet charming  UNESCO World Heritage Centre. And we did an amazing boat trip!

Nautic speedboat trip

Initially we planned only to visit the city for a bit and then drive back to Sibenik and Krka NP via the coast line. Instead, while strolling around Trogir’s narrow ancient streets, we spontaneously decided to book a three island speedboat tour with Ventos Nautic at the Adriatic sea.

Croatia has >1000 islands to explore, let’s see some!

When walking into the office of Ventos Nautic , a friendly lady called Marija explained the different tour possibilities. We could already go today! The boat was scheduled for departure at 15:00h, which left us enough time to have some lunch, go back to our parked car, put our swimwear on, buy some stuff and get on board, perfect!

Best of Croatia

What a great decision this turned out to be! Really our best day in Croatia so far! This boat tour totally got us into the relaxed vacation mode . How wonderful life is! Aren’t the spontaneous things the best?!

Here is a short video to give you an impression of the bumpy ride with speed boat out on the open sea. I did not get sea sick, it was just a lot of fun!

The half-day three island speedboat tour is possible in the morning or afternoon. So where are we going?

Morning departure

• 09:00 departure from Trogir (or Split )
• 09:15-11:15 Blue Lagoon free time (relaxing, snorkeling, etc.)
• 11:30-12:30 Maslinica, Šolta Island
• 12:45-13:45 Duga Bay, Čiovo Island
• 14:00 return to Trogir (or Split )

Afternoon departure

• 15:00 departure from Trogir (or Split )
• 15:15-17:15 Blue Lagoon free time (relaxing, snorkeling, etc.)
• 17:30-18:15 Maslinica, Šolta Island
• 18:30-19:45 Duga Bay, Čiovo Island
• 20:00 return to Trogir (or Split )

The boat pick up point is in front of the Kula Kamerlengo tower (Obala Bana Berislavica). At the end, the skipper was so nice to drop us off at the Marina (opposite of Kula Kamerlengo), right at the parking lot (boat gas station).

My tip for Croatia: bring or buy water shoes!

What to bring

If you would also like to take this tour, I can recommend to bring the following items with you (or buy in one of the many shops in town):

• Hat or baseballcap
• Beach towel
• Drinks (other than water)
• Cash for lunch or dinner at Čiovo Island (Duga Bay)
• Water shoes (rocks in the water)
• Flippers (if you have them)
• Cotton cardigan or light jacket for the last hour
• A good mood

Where to book

You can easily book this trip with Ventos Nautic via GetYourGuide . I believe Ventos Nautic is the right choice because of:

• obviously all efforts are put into making a great experience for all guests
• many years of experience, knowing and showing some unique spots
• the Certificate of Excellence by Tripadvisor is deserved
• it’s a small family business, the owner’s 2 sons and girlfriend also work hard to make every tour a success
• very reasonably priced for 6 hours yet pretty private (we were with one more couple + skipper in one boat)
• private tours, boat rentals*, speedboat transfers, rental bikes, etc. are also possibilities

* Renting a boat requires the appropriate licenses.

What it costs

This half-day three island speed boat tour costs €55 per person. Included are:

• boat ride with speedboat and skipper
• 6 hours trip from 15:00h to 20:00h
• small group (min 2, max 6 guests)
• snorkeling gear (mask + air tube)
• water bottles
• safety gear, insurance and VAT

Different type and longer tours are available; full day or for example to Hvar and the Blue Cave. For more information please contact Ventos Nautic . For private tours, regardless the agency, you will think at least in the range of 500-1200 euro per day plus gas.

Where to eat

All three islands of the speedboat tour from Trogir have restaurants. At Blue Lagoon the only restaurant is quiet basic and closed on at least Saturday. At  Maslinica on Šolta Island there are several restaurants, only the stop is a bit short, so probably just drinks or ice cream there.

The best time and place to eat during the boat trip will be during the last stop at Duga Bay (Čiovo Island), where you will be dropped off right in front of a nice restaurant called  Konoba Duga  (or you can chose just to enjoy the beach). We ate some delicious fresh scampi (prawns) there.

If you go on the afternoon boot trip, you might want to have lunch in Trogir old town beforehand. Or if you go on the morning boot trip, you may want to have dinner in Trogir old town afterwards. Quite personal, but I can imagine.

A great place in the middle of Trogir’s old town I would personally recommend is Restaurant   ALKA . We absolutely loved their risotto with shrimps and the grilled fresh seabass. One of the best meals we had in Croatia! Their garden terrace is a pleasant place to relax a bit on a hot day. Not expensive either (37 euro for 2). You could also have a drink at Dionis  at the boulevard towards Kula Kamerlengo tower (boat pick up and drop off point) for some people watching.

And as the above ‘What to bring’ list mentions: feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks on the boat. Water activities like swimming, snorkeling, etc. makes hungry and thirsty 😉 There are plenty of shops around where you can buy all the stuff you may possibly need.

Where to sleep

Of course in a classy, stylish and comfortable hotel at the right location!

• Hotel Štacija (in Kaštela, between Trogir and Split )

For those who can afford it, consider staying at the exclusive Hotel Baština at Šolta Island. Not so long ago this place was a ruin, yet nowadays it is completely renovated and hosting the wealthy. The hotel offers a great view at the island’s harbor, filled with luxurious yachts and fishermen’s boats.

How to get there

Getting to Trogir by car will take you approximately:

• Krka NP – Trogir 50 min (58 km)
• Šibenik – Trogir 49 min (47 km)
• Split – Trogir 35 min (28 km)
• Plitvice Lakes – Trogir 2.5h (228 km)
• Zadar – Trogir 1.5h (130 km)

Parking is easy and safe at the Marina (HRK 76 all day, open 24h). Or along the Ul. Kneza Trpimira.

A rental car and being able to drive around yourself gives a lot of freedom and flexibility. You will be able to see more in a shorter period of time compared to public transport, and the airconditioning is a bit plus too! Just make sure it is insured all-risk and that you bring your EU or international driver’s license.

Personally, when it concerns renting a car, I would recommend Sunny Cars , an all-inclusive, worry free rental concept with affordable, fair prices, great service and no unpleasant surprises upon pick up or drop off. I am a big fan and use them all the time! In most countries the 2nd driver, free cancellation up to 4 hours in advance and all-risk insurance are standard included. Ideal, I use them all the time!
