Manowar Announce ‘The Final Battle’ Farewell Tour

It continues to be an unbelievably brutal year for rock and metal as the defenders of true steel, Manowar , have announced they will be bowing out of the metal arena. The power metal heroes broke the news today that they will be embarking on their farewell tour, "The Final Battle."

The news came from the band's  Facebook page where they thanked their fans for 'The Gods and Kings' tour, one of the most successful in the band's 35 plus year career. Armed with 10 studio albums lined with heavy metal anthems, the New York outfit will begin their trek in Germany as stated in the full announcement below.

Message To All Manowarriors - Nachricht an alle Manowarrior The Gods And Kings Tour was a groundbreaking moment in our career. The stage, sound, video and you, our fans, were magnificent! Coming off such an amazing tour it was clear that the next time we must go even bigger and beyond anything we have ever done; something that will fulfill every Manowarrior’s dreams. Then that will be the ultimate moment to say Thank You and farewell! The Final Battle will begin in Germany and take us all over the world to say goodbye to all of you. If you know Metal you know MANOWAR. If you know MANOWAR you know Metal! Those who join this tour will be left with an eternal memory; having witnessed the band that has dedicated their blood, hearts, souls and every moment of their career to True Heavy Metal. We are calling all Manowarriors to prepare yourselves now and to join us for The Final Battle!” MANOWAR ‪#‎TheFinalBattle‬

Manowar might not be a household name, but the warriors have built up one of the most dedicated worldwide followings of any metal act. A Manowar concert is more than just a show and more than just a band getting up onstage; it is a true experience that has to be seen to be believed as fans raise clutched fists feverishly in the air, belting out every line of every song to the point where singer Eric Adams can take each night off and extend the mic out to the crowd instead.

The news comes while metal and rock fans around the world are still reeling from the losses of some of the genre's most beloved acts. The death of Lemmy Kilmister brought the end of Motorhead , Black Sabbath are currently in the midst of a farewell tour with Ozzy Osbourne expected to retire in the near future altogether, Brian Johnson remains on the outs in AC/DC as of now, two transcendental mega-stars were lost in David Bowie and Prince and now we will bid farewell to Manowar, a band willingly saying goodbye.

Manowar's the final battle tour isn't their final tour, band not breaking up.

This is confusing.

' src=

"Okay, let me clarify something. We never announced the end of Manowar; we didn't even plan to never tour again. There are so many places that we constantly get fan requests from… We said it's time for a break. So that we can work on other projects for our fans: For example, I'll be traveling with my spoken-word tour this winter where I'll be talking about the history of the band, rare photos and video included. I am working on a metal opera (think 'We Will Rock You', but Manowar style). And, of course, we'll continue with Part II and III of our 'The Final Battle' trilogy. But I'll be honest: With the overwhelming feedback from this tour, and fans literally begging us to continue it is really hard to not think of new touring. We've had fans tell us that the thought of us retiring or not touring anymore takes the joy out of their lives. Having such an impact is an honor and a responsibility that we take seriously."

Legendary American metal act, Manowar, have been raising hell since 1980, known for their outlandish antics and their gargantuan sound with lyrics full of mythological references.

Manowar began life in Auburn, New York, US, brought together by bassist Joey DeMaio formed a band with fellow musicians in the area, with the three original members DeMaio, Eric Adams (vocals), Donnie Hamzik (drums), joined by guitarist Karl Logan as of 1994, to form the quartet. From the strength of their first demo, they secured a recording contract in 1981 with Liberty Records, which began their rise to cult metal stardom, releasing their debut album, “Battle Hymns,” the following year.

Manowar have gone on to release 13 albums, each pushing their powerful, heavy sound to grander levels than what came before. Whilst never obtaining mainstream commercial success, their music has developed a strong cult following across the world. Whilst being popular in the US, they made their biggest impact in Europe, as well as being popular in the Australian and South American metal scene. Their use of mythological themes and Viking-inspired leather outfits made them the precursor band to the rise of Viking-metal and pagan-metal acts, such as bands like Finntroll, Gwar and Amon Amarth.

Highlights of their large discography include the 1988 album, “Kings of Metal ,” which is their highest-selling album worldwide, with many songs featured being fan favorties, played to uproarious receptions when performed live. 1992’s “Triumph of Steel” was another career high point, famous for its inclusion of a 28-minute suite titled “Achilles, Agony and Ecstasy in Eight Parts,” which was inspired by the Iliad.

Manowar are able to lay claim to the title of the ‘loudest metal band’ breaking this record on two separate occasions having being awarded it by the Guinness Book World of Records in 1984. As well as being the heaviest band, they also have the record for playing the longest heavy metal concert, when they played for five hours straight at a concert in Bulgaria in 2008.

Live reviews

Other band’s play, Manorwar KILLS. To some, Manowar’s claim to fame might be that they are the “loudest live band in history” but to true metal warriors Manowar are the kings of metal.

There is no better description for the community at a Manowar show than their very own song “Die For Metal” which details the day of a man quitting his job, going to his first Manowar show and instantly becoming a brother of metal. Lead singer Eric Adams commands a crowd like no other metal frontman can. Manowar tends to play lengthy shows and Adams has the entire audience eating out of the palm of his hands the entire time. To think, he’s been doing this for nearly 35 years and is still going strong! In a word, Manowar’s live performance is simply epic.

There is no better show to see live than a Manowar show for pure fun. The loudest band in the world, the most metal band in the world with thousands of metal warriors singing at the top of their lungs songs about the steel, mythology and the genre we all love so much.

“They can’t stop us, let ‘em try, for heavy metal WE WILL DIE.”

Report as inappropriate

Manowar are one of the most revered artists on the underground metal scene. The Auburn, New York outfit have been working the scene since the early 80s and the large amount of experience they hold is very visible onstage. It is without a doubt an atmosphere of complete mayhem within the venue and the band plays in a total frantic manner yet you have to notice that they do not drop a single note all evening long.

The audience is pumped up and ready to throw themselves into the show with equal intensity. In their homeland they still sit very much within the cult category so therefore everybody attending tonight is what you would describe as a super fan. This is evident when you hear the volumes the choruses are sang back all night whilst the group are left to focus on the epic instrumentals. There is a strange notion to music that could fill stadiums being confined to intimate venues yet this simply elevates the intensity of a Manowar show.

It was great to see they guys again, but I've seen better shows with them. Eric was on point and still has a phenomenal voice, but Joey off key; especially through his attempt to master "Flight of the bumblebee". I liked Karl Logan's replacement, Mr. Martel, and the newish Swedish drummer were an worthy attribute.

jon-lykke’s profile image

I am very disappointed.

- Concert duration just about 1.5 hours

- Band performance (show) average (sound was good though)

- Price for tickets and merchandise abysmal

And worst of all. My critical comment on Facebook was removed instead of responding to it.

NEVER AGAIN !!!

MANOWAR Will Headline Release Athens 2022 Festival With Special Gift For Greek Fans

The unwavering loyalty of the Greek Manowarriors has once again prevailed: MANOWAR will return to Greece with an exclusive headlining performance of Release Athens 2022 festival at Plateia Nerou on June 22 nd , 2022.

In a press conference held in Athens last night, Joey DeMaio announced that the band will bring a crushing new production, killer set list and a special gift for the Greek fans to commemorate a truly outstanding year in music history!

As metal fans will know, 2022 marks the 30 th year since the release of “The Triumph Of Steel”. With this album MANOWAR surprised their fans with the over 28 minutes long track “Achilles, Agony and Ecstasy in Eight Parts”, inspired by Homer’s ancient Greek poem “The Iliad”.

In celebration of this memorable anniversary and as a THANK YOU for the steadfast and passionate support of the Greek Manowarriors, MANOWAR have now taken on “The Odyssey”, Homer’s tale of the great hero Odysseus and his long and perilous quest to return to his wife and son.

“We are extremely excited to return to Greece and sharing our tribute to this country’s amazing past!” said Joey DeMaio. “The welcome we received at Release Athens 2019 was fantastic as always. That show, and being surrounded by Greece’s unique culture and history again inspired us to revisit Homer, as we had long planned!”

For this project, MANOWAR went to great lengths: not only did they record a song titled “The Revenge Of Odysseus” for their upcoming new studio album, Joey DeMaio also traveled to Athens to record a narration with father and son team Kostas and Konstantinos Kazakos. Kostas, hailed in Greece for his participation in many movies and as an accomplished theater actor and writer, and his son Kostantinos, who is also a talented actor, narrated a touching dialogue between Odysseus and his son Telemachus. And to honor the historic source material, they did so in Ancient Greek, translated from English by Sakis Tolis of Greek metal band “Rotting Christ”!

“It was a pleasure and privilege to work with Kostas and Konstantinos, Sakis and everyone else who was involved in this narration” said Joey DeMaio. “I call Kostas ‘the Greek Orson Welles’, not only because these two giants share many remarkable talents and outstanding voices, but also for being equally passionate to deliver a perfect narration while being humble and kind at the same time! We can’t wait to share everything with our fans.”

The CRUSHING THE ENEMIES OF METAL ANNIVERSARY TOUR ’22/’23 will celebrate over 40 years of band history and six signature MANOWAR albums and their anniversaries:

40th Anniversary of Battle Hymns 35th Anniversary of Fighting The World 30th Anniversary of The Triumph Of Steel 20th Anniversary of Warriors Of The World 15th Anniversary of Gods Of War 10th Anniversary of The Lord Of Steel

Tickets for MANOWAR’s exclusive 2022 performance in Greece will go on sale Thursday, November 18 th, 2021 at 11AM local time (10AM CET) at viva.gr

MANOWAR To Embark On 40th-Anniversary Tour In 2021

MANOWAR will embark on its 40th-anniversary tour in 2021. The trek will kick off in April in Germany and will include shows in The Netherlands for the first time in many years. The tour will be bigger than ever, featuring orchestra and choir, Viking reenactors, stunning visuals and a powerful set list full of immortal classics.

"All of us, everywhere in the world, are living in a very challenging time right now," said bassist Joey DeMaio . "But we will get through this, standing together, stronger than ever! Music is a universal power! It guides us through tough times and unites us! And when it is time to celebrate again, we will raise our hands in victory, with the greatest fans in the world!"

The 40th-anniversary tour 2021 will be a celebration of everything metal fans love about MANOWAR : Songs that unite and inspire, epic imagery, outstanding sound and a gathering of like-minded friends under the Sign Of The Hammer.

Tickets will go on exclusive pre-sale on Tuesday, June 2 at 10 a.m. CEST on Eventim Germany and Eventim Netherlands . General ticket sale will start on other ticket outlets on Friday, June 5 at 10 a.m. CEST.

A limited number of Ultimate Fan Experience upgrades, for the most personal fan experience ever, will be available on this tour. These upgrades work in conjunction with any ticket for the respective event. Fans should secure their admission tickets now and can purchase an Ultimate Fan Experience once these upgrades go on sale.

Back in May 2016, MANOWAR revealed that it would say "thank you", "farewell" and "goodbye" to its fans on a world tour that would be "bigger and beyond anything" the group had ever done. Calling the tour "The Final Battle" , MANOWAR said that the fans who come to see the veteran metal act perform would "be left with an eternal memory; having witnessed the band that has dedicated their blood, hearts, souls and every moment of their career to true heavy metal."

Naturally, most fans assumed that MANOWAR would never play again after the completion of "The Final Battle" , but DeMaio has since clarified that the band has every intention of continuing for years to come.

In an interview with Summa Inferno , conducted ahead of MANOWAR 's appearance at the Hell & Heaven Metal Fest , DeMaio addressed the band's future activities, explaining that he and his bandmates have grand plans for the coming months.

"People had the wrong idea about 'The Final Battle' tour," he said. "When we announced the name of the tour, people immediately thought, 'Oh, no. They're gonna break up. They're gonna stop forever,' which, that was never the intention. The intention was for sure to take a break for some time because we're working on a big rock opera — and I mean musical rock opera; however you wanna look at it. But it's gonna be a big epic story. And so that takes time. We can't put that together like that. And the last EP, songs that were released, will be part of this massive big epic story. So when we announced that, there was a confusion and people thought, 'Oh, no.' But that's not the story. We're here in Mexico for the first time — but not the last time."

A year ago, the 65-year-old bassist said that he was "too young to retire" and blamed "some journalists" for "reinterpreting" MANOWAR 's 2016 "farewell" tour announcement in order to "sell magazines." He told Bulgaria's Z Rock Radio : "Journalists make their money by what they write and photographers make their money by having a 'wow' picture. But I'm very protective over our fans, and when people write shit that ends up affecting and causing problems for our fans, I get mad."

In a 2017 interview with "Outdoor Adventures With Jayson" , MANOWAR singer Eric Adams said that he would "miss the big stage" after the band completes its final tour. He said: "This is it. We've got one last tour coming up… But all good things have to come to an end at some point."

MANOWAR released a new EP, "The Final Battle I" , in March 2019. At the time, the band said that parts II and III of the trilogy would arrive at a later date, inspired by MANOWAR 's adventures on the remainder of "The Final Battle" .
