Millions flock to France’s capital every year, and it remains the destination of dreams for many romantics. And there’s a better way to see them - by bike!

The V-Découverte Pass , for example, is valid 24 hours and allows users to take up to 5 Vélibs at one time. Return the Vélib bike to any Vélib Station ( click here for the Paris Velib Map ) before 30 minutes are up, wait a few minutes, and then check out a new Vélib bike to avoid expensive excess time charges.

For example, a leisurely tour by bike in Paris, from the Eiffel Tower (in Paris 7) to the Louvre Museum (in Paris 1 ), takes 15 minutes which is faster than taking the bus or subway.

You can find all the Vélib passes and prices here . To plan your bike tours in Paris, use the Vélib Map with all the Vélib docking points. This Vélib Map also tells you how many Vélib bikes are left on a specific Vélib docking point.

Other Options to Rent a Bike in Paris

Vintage Bikes Paris

If you prefer a bicycle that is more adapted to your needs, or you are planning longer rides, there are other options to rent a bicycle in Paris.

The cost of renting Paris city bikes for a whole day is around 20€/day. This option is also convenient if you decide to do a bike tour outside Paris, where there are no Vélib Stations.

Rent your standard bike or e-bike online with BikesBooking.com . Bikesbooking is a key player in the online booking market for moto and bicycle transport. Just like its big brother Booking.com, Bikesbooking compares prices of 950 rental companies from more than 40 countries to give you the best price guaranteed.

Light & Handy: Use your Folding Bike in Paris

Paris by Bike

A folding bike makes a great travel companion for people on extended stays in Paris. This kind of bicycle rides and shifts as smoothly as a fancy full-size touring bike. Only 15 kg, it packs into a wheeled suitcase and does not take up much space in the hotel room.

Brompton and Dahon brands make the best folding bikes on the market. Dahon folding bikes are available in Amazon shops.

Tips to Fully Enjoy Cycling in Paris

The Paris City Council is making a big effort to promote the use of bikes in Paris, but there is still a long way to overtake other bike-friendly cities like Berlin or Amsterdam. In our opinion, more “bicycle pedagogy” is necessary for Paris, especially amongst the car drivers who tend to open their car doors without checking if there is a biker coming behind!

Even if you have been biking all your life, please take a couple of minutes to read our  tips & advice for biking in Paris:

CHECK regularly the condition and pressure of your tires to avoid any incident. Also, check your brakes regularly and your bike light set, especially if you want to ride at night.

RESPECT  the highway code, like any other vehicle. Advertise your maneuvers and changes of direction in advance, and do not take unnecessary risks.

Unlike American cities, where cyclists obey the same rules as vehicles, Parisian cyclists observe separate rules of the road. The general rule is to stick to marked bike paths, which variously and confusingly go with or against traffic, move from sidewalks to streets and back. These bike paths are dedicated to bicycles only or may be shared with taxis and buses, so stay vigilant.

Bike Signs Floor

LEARN the Paris signaling. For clarity and security, the City of Paris has created specific signaling . Thus, cyclists can easily identify bus lanes where they cannot move. These corridors are explicitly signaled by signs located under the signs.

Bike Signs in Paris

These new signs below are located under the traffic lights. The yellow arrow shows the biker the direction to take after the crossing (to the right or straight ahead).

Bike Signs Paris

For example: the traffic light is red for cars, but the panel authorizes bikes in Paris to turn to the right.

This authorization does not give any rights to bikes in Paris: they are not the priority. To cross the red light, cyclists should exercise caution and respect in all circumstances the priority given to other road users, particularly pedestrians, that they must always give way. If the panel does not exist, bikers must stop at the red traffic light

Parisians are famous for breaking the rules, so watch out for scooters (they like to use bicycle lanes from time to time) and pedestrians (sometimes they just don’t respect red traffic lights). You are warned.

REMEMBER  that in Paris city buses have priority. Be very careful when approaching a bus stop riding after a bus; the bus can brake suddenly. A bus parked at a stop can also get back on track at any time. To avoid danger, keep a good safety distance and never overtake a bus on the right.

FINES FOR BIKES IN PARIS:

  • riding on the sidewalk (except cycle paths): 135€ fine
  • use of the mobile phone or headphones while cycling in Paris: 135€ fine
  • excessive speed: 35€ fine
  • ride in the wrong direction: 135€ fine
  • lack of lighting and breaks fault: 11€ fine
  • parking causing an obstruction: 35€ fine
  • drive more than 2, side by side: 35€ fine
  • turning without signaling it with your arm: 35€ fine
  • have a passenger on your bike: 35€ fine
  • towing: 35€ fine
  • riding under the effects of the alcohol: 135€ fine
  • overtaking on the right: 135€ fine
  • non-respect of red traffic lights or stop signs (except if specific sign for bikes): 135€ fine

And last but not least, avoid drinking alcohol before biking in Paris; you will need all your neurons “on”!

Cycle Route Planner and Other Apps for Biking in Paris

Vintage Bikes in Paris

GeoVelo , is a cool tool to plan your bike tours in Paris or France. Use this tool to calculate the time to go from A to B (recommended itinerary or safest itinerary).

For our everyday bike rides, we like to use the (free) mobile application,  maps.me . This app works offline, but you need to download the maps (e.g. Paris and Ile de France) previously. The application shows the best itinerary and calculates the time to reach your target, even if the times are a little bit sporty!

When Things Go Wrong

Even if rental bicycles are checked periodically, or you are biking in Paris with your brand new bike, s*!XX!it happens, and you can get stuck in the middle of the city with a flat tire or a broken bike. What to do?

Cyclofix comes to repair your bike

If your bike has problems and you are far from your favorite shop you can call Cyclofix , a new business model born in Paris a couple of years ago but very successful already.

The concept is very simple: the Cyclofix guys ride to your location (at home or wherever you got stuck) to repair your bike on-site. With Cyclofix there’s no need to carry your bike to the next bike shop and leave it there for 24-48 hours to be repaired. How cool is that?

Cafe + Bike Fixing @ La Chouette

Another cool service that just opened some time ago is the café-vélo La Chouette Cafe Velo (20 rue du Château d’Eau, Paris 75010).

La Chouette is a café – bike store & workshop where you can have your bike repaired while enjoying your cafe & croissant in a very nice atmosphere. Very Parisian!

Bike Festivals in Paris

January – Traversée de Paris en Anciennes . Originally this is a vintage cars festival, but there are also vintage bikes and motorbikes with vintage riders, of course!

January – Festival du Voyage à Vélo. This festival is all about your two-wheel friend: talks, short travel movies, photo exhibitions, meeting points, equipment, and more.

March – Salon Vélo . Don’t miss this bike fair for professionals and amateurs at Parc Floral de Paris.

May – Paris Bike Festival. This bike fair for professionals and amateurs at Hippodrome Longchamps is the perfect occasion to see the novelties for all kinds of bicycles and their equipment.

Paris by Bike Guide – Final Note

If you need more information about biking in Paris (courses, guided rides, reparation workshops . .), you can visit LA MAISON DU VÉLO , located just in front of Opéra de la Bastille (37 Bd Bourdon, Paris 4 ). La Maison du Vélo opens from Tuesday to Friday from 1:30 pm to 5 pm.

In the beginning, Paris on a bike may look a little bit scary, but after a couple of days of cycling in Paris, you will get used to it, and you will have a great time. We truly believe that biking in Paris is a great way to discover Paris, and we hope this post will encourage you to take a bike in Paris.

"I’m always disappointed when I miss the win, and that’s the case here because I feel I missed something. In a few weeks, I’ll probably be happy with the race I just had, but right now, it’s too early. At this moment, it’s disappointment. I felt, from the start, that I was in good shape. I felt it on the bike all day, except when I found myself...

This New 260-mile French Cycling Route Will Take You From Paris to Normandy

Take the scenic route and bike through 130 French towns.

Meena Thiruvengadam is a lifelong traveler and veteran journalist who has visited more than 50 countries across six continents. Her writing has appeared in The Wall Street Journal , Departures , TripSavvy , and other publications.

cycling tour paris

There’s now one more way to explore northern France : a 260-mile cycling route that starts at the Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris and winds through more 130 towns along the Seine River and deep into Normandy .

La Seine à Vélo passes by Claude Monet’s home and gardens in Giverny, the Museum of Impressionism, and Château de Malmaison, the former home of Napoleon Bonaparte and Empress Josephine. The chateau was the French government's headquarters from 1800 to 1802 and was Napoleon's last residence in France.

The route, which has been in the works since 2015, takes cyclists through urban, rural, and industrial landscapes in an area that has long served as an inspiration to some of the world’s greatest artists, including Claude Monet, Edgar Degas Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Victor Hugo.

The product of a collaboration among 15 French territories, the route is just one of a number of new cycling paths that have been recently introduced as people increasingly look to socially distanced outdoor activities to fill their time.

In Italy, for example, a new 87-mile bike route circles the country’s largest lake, Lake Garda. In the U.S., a new 1,287-mile bike trail connects Yellowstone National Park with Minneapolis. And additional bike trails also have opened in California.

Organizers plan to release a guide to the full La Seine à Vélo route early next year. In the meantime, they’ve released guides to portions of the path on their website. The site includes photos of what to expect on the trail as well as distance and time estimates and information on lodging and dining options.

Don’t have a bike? Don’t worry. There are several spots to rent bikes along the route.

Meena Thiruvengadam is a Travel + Leisure contributor who has visited 50 countries on six continents and 47 U.S. states. She loves historic plaques, wandering new streets, and walking on beaches. Find her on Twitter and Instagram .

Peter Sagan is set to resume his road racing career from Wednesday at the Tour of Hungary. One of the greatest sprinters of all time, the Slovakian initially retired at the end of last season to focus on mountain biking. He had the aim of competing in that discipline at the Paris Olympics, but his preparations have been thrown into disarray after two surgeries.

There is no better way to see the stunning city of Paris than on our famous Night Bike Tour. We’ll lead you through the bustling iconic neighborhood of St. Germain de Près as it comes to life for the evening with its iconic buildings and bustling cafés and restaurants.

We’ll dive into the heart of St. Germain, cutting through some adorable side streets that lead right up to the awe inspiring Notre Dame Cathedral. Next, we’ll park the bikes on the tranquil Ile St. Louis bridge as we gaze upon the flying buttresses of Notre Dame. We’ll of course stop on Ile St. Louis for Paris’s most famous ice cream & sorbet, Berthillon, for a little ice cream break. Heading towards the sunset as it glows orange behind the buildings along the Seine River, we’ll cross over the old wooden pedestrian bridge, Pont des Arts, for more jaw-dropping views (including the Eiffel Tower from afar).

One of the best parts of the ride is up next as we glide into the original courtyard of the Louvre palace. You’ll notice that the noise level goes from the loud buzz of people and traffic to near silence within the serene centuries-old enclosed courtyard. We’ll ride down through the relatively quiet palace grounds to the glass pyramids for a photo opt. Depending on the time of year, it can be just transitioning towards sunset or completely dark with the pyramids lit up and glowing, but it’s always breathtaking. We’re not done yet! Up next, we’ll head past Place de la Concorde to board our boat for a relaxing hour-long Seine river cruise, where you’ll get even more gorgeous views. Your guide will pop open some bottles of red wine, and we’ll toast to an evening together in Paris. The views from the boat ride are something you’ll always remember.

After our hour-long cruise with wine, we’ll ride over the Seine and back towards our office, stopping just in front of the Eiffel Tower to appreciate its golden evening glow, and perhaps catch it just in time as it sparkles!

Riding a bike through Paris at night can be intimidating on your own, but we have safety in numbers with your expert guide leading the way. Our Night Bike Tour is a perfect way to see Paris at its absolute best and to enjoy many vantage points of beauty across the city as its monuments and bridges take on a whole new light. Being guided by bike, it’s effortless and fun. This is an evening around the City of Light you won’t soon forget.

Your tour meets directly at our office, located at  24 rue Edgar Faure, 75015 .  The closest metro station is Dupleix (line 6).  The station La Motte Picquet Grenelle (lines 6, 8 & 10) is also quite close and provides more connection possibilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about our bikes/biking in paris, what cycling skill level do i need for this tour.

While all of our tours maintain a leisurely pace, we want our guests to have fun and be safe, so being able to ride a bike is paramount.

This tour is perfect for intermediate bike riders. You should have good balance, be able to start and stop comfortably, and be familiar with hand brakes. Most of this tour is on roads and although we stick together as a group and carve out a lane for ourselves, we ask that all guests feel confident with their riding ability. Safety is our number one priority but confidence in yourself is the first step to overall group safety.

If you’re not sure how you’ll fare, we invite you to try out some of our other tours first.

What are your bike options?

You can view our bike options  here .

Unfortunately, we do not have adult tricycles, adult tandems, or bikes with training wheels for adults or children that may be less confident in their riding ability

Is this tour appropriate for children?

Yes! Our Paris Night Bike Tour is a wonderful way for kids comfortable on bikes to discover Paris. Please note that this tour typically returns to our office between 11pm and 11:30pm so it may not be appropriate for riders under age 10.

If you’re unsure of the child’s riding confidence, we often suggest taking the Paris Day Bike Tour first in order to gauge their comfort on tour, and deciding later about the Paris Night Bike Tour. The Paris Night Bike Tour is slightly faster paced and involves more street traffic, whereas our Paris Day Bike Tour has a more leisurely pace and stays mostly on bike paths and sidewalks. Also, please note that children under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult on the tour. You can use this  bike chart  to help you reserve the appropriate bicycles for your little ones.

  • We have various sized city bikes to accommodate just about every size of rider, from extra small 20 inch wheeled bikes for riders that are 3.3ft (100cm) to extra large for riders up to 6.5ft (198cm).
  • Please Note: All extra small 20 inch and small 24 inch bikes are equipped with hand brakes.
  • Our city tours are very casual, with only slight elevation changes on varying surfaces including smooth gravel and pavement. It is necessary, however, that any person participating in our bike tours have at least some bike riding experience, and should be comfortable riding in a group.

Is a helmet included?

In France, adults are not obliged to wear a helmet, however they are mandatory for children under 12. We have helmets of all sizes available in our office, free of charge.

How does the Paris Day Bike Tour compare to the Paris Night Bike Tour?

Many customers want to know the difference between our Paris Day Bike Tour and Paris Night Bike Tour . First, the routes and information provided are completely different.

The Paris Day Bike Tour is where you’ll get the most information about Paris. We hear one of two comments most often after the Paris Day Bike Tour. Either, “Wow, I’m so glad I took this because now I know what I’m going to do the next few days while I’m in the city” or we hear, “I can’t believe I’m leaving tonight because there’s so much more in Paris that I didn’t know about and I’ve missed it all.”

The Paris Night Bike Tour is simply beautiful. There is more riding involved and slightly less information than the Paris Day Bike Tour, but the city at night is fantastic! This tour also includes a boat cruise on the Seine with free wine included.

Most of our customers take both of our tours by taking advantage of our Day & Night Bike Tours – and you can save €10 when booking them together! However, if you’re not sure you want to take both, we suggest you take whichever one sounds most interesting to you, and then you can decide at that point if you enjoyed it enough to ride with us a second time. We think we know what your answer will be…

Magnus Sheffield: The American cyclist pedaling towards Olympic goal

Magnus Sheffield competing for Team USA

Don’t let the grin fool you, Magnus Sheffield means business. The 22 year-old rider began his season with an ambitious set of goals, and has yet to relent in his fervent pursuit of cycling glory.

Returning from the agony of a serious crash that left him hospitalized last season, Sheffield has raced through the Spring in impressive form.

He began the year with a second place finish in the individual time trial held as part of the Volta ao Algarve , before notching two impressive results at Strade Bianche and Ronde van Vlaanderen .

His sixth place finish at the Ronde van Vlaanderen was particularly celebrated due to the extreme weather and increased difficulty of the race. While it might not have been the victory he desired, it proved he was in good form ahead of his main targets for the season: the Olympic Games Paris 2024 and Giro d'Italia .

High personal goals propel Sheffield forward in rebound season

As part of a blog post on his professional team’s website in February, Sheffield reflected on a tumultuous 2023 season that saw him hospitalized and another rider killed after a pair of brutal solo crashes during the 2023 Tour De Suisse.

“The crash reminded me of how fragile life can be,” wrote Sheffield . “I feel incredibly lucky to be alive, to be able to walk, and even more fortunate to continue racing professionally.”

In the recovery time that followed, he grappled with a series of complex emotions and thoughts about cycling. Then, he thought about what he wanted to achieve in the sport.

“This year is special with the Olympic Games in Paris where I’m very motivated to focus on the individual time trial and road race,” noted Sheffield.

The New York-born cyclist based out of Andorra has never been to the Olympic Games . He is a strong candidate for the U.S. Olympic Team , but he faces stiff competition in sport with a lot of emerging talent, but few athlete quotas*.

While the punchy and lengthy nature of the Paris 2024 road race route caters to Sheffield’s style, he will have to contend with the likes of Neilson Powless , Brandon McNulty , Kevin Vermaerke and Matteo Jorgenson for a spot on the team.

*As National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Games, athletes' participation at the Paris Games depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at Paris 2024.

Brandon McNulty (United States) in the breakaway during the men's road race at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

Brandon McNulty (United States) in the breakaway during the men's road race at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Sheffield poses double threat in road cycling

While Sheffield has proven he can go head-to-head with some of the best riders in the world, it’s his ability to race against the clock that underscores his talent and makes him an attractive candidate for the U.S. Olympic Team .

The young all-around rider has performed incredibly well in time trials during his professional career. He won a short individual time trial held as part of the 2022 Tour of Denmark and came second in a time trial behind Remco Evenepoel earlier this season.

Despite his repeated success in the event, Sheffield’s focus remains on riding to the best of his ability rather than trying to beat other top riders.

"It’s just about taking every chance that I can,” he told GCN . “I think it’s really important to focus on being my very own best.” He added, “If that’s good enough to win, that’s awesome. If not, then I can’t do anything else about that.”

Fortunately, his best is often good enough to challenge for the win.

What’s next for Magnus Sheffield

Sheffield will be busy ahead of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 . He will make his Grand Tour debut at the Giro d’Italia , where he will play a supporting role for his more established INEOS Grenadiers teammates Geraint Thomas and Thymen Arensman .

The American rider isn’t expected to play a role in the general classification battle, but expect him to challenge for stage wins when he has the opportunity, especially during the individual time trials on stages 7 and 14.

While his focus will be on gaining experience, it will also be a great chance to see how he measures up against one the favorites for a gold medal in Paris: Tadej Pogačar .

Pogaćar won the Tour de France in 2020 and 2021. He also raced to the bronze medal in the road race at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 . The Giro d’Italia will provide the perfect scouting opportunity for Sheffield, as Pogačar is expected to dominate the race.

In many ways, Sheffield’s ultimate goal is to emulate Pogaćar with Olympic success and Tour de France victories. Of course, he’ll need to make it to the start line of both events first.

Road cycling at Paris 2024

Cyclists will be treated to some of the finest sights Paris has to offer. The road races will start and finish near the Trocadéro on 3 and 4 August, while the time trials will reach their climax at the Pont Alexandre III bridge on 27 July.

With a challenging route for the road race , and a flat route favoring powerful riders for the time trials , Paris 2024 should be a memorable Olympics for road cycling .

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in Paris Projected to Surpass 2024 Paris Olympics with Major Accomplishment

The Taylor Swift  effect strikes again—and this time, it's taking over the City of Love.

While the music superstar takes her international Eras Tour to Paris, France this week, experts have already started to calculate the amount of traveling fans that the concert will bring to the French capital.

According to Bloomberg , the number of fans from the U.S. traveling to Paris to see the "Fortnight" songstress is projected to be five times more than the number of U.S. spectators at the 2024 Olympics , also being held in Paris later this summer.

The report comes from luxury travel agency Embark Beyond, which projects that even while the 2024 Olympics haven't started yet, the number of U.S. travelers to Paris to see Swift is so large, that even those planning to fly to Paris for the Olympics are unlikely to outnumber the jet-setting Swifties.

What's more, Swift's upcoming Paris shows will be taking place at La Defense Arena, which has a seating capacity of 40,000 per show, a "small fraction" of the size of the Olympic games, Bloomberg  reports.

But apparently, the U.S. Swifties are just more ready to hop on a plane to see the Grammy winner perform in another country, especially after fighting tooth and nail to score the coveted Eras Tour tickets.

Some die-hard fans have even spoken out about the new report, insisting that the influx of U.S. fans traveling to Europe for the next leg of the tour could be due to the difficulty of securing tickets to North American shows, or because the resale prices to their local shows are astronomically high.

"It's currently cheaper to catch a 12 hour flight to Paris this weekend to experience The Eras Tour in France than it is to buy a resale ticket for any North American date," one fan claimed on X (formerly Twitter.)

"Yep...that's why we are going to Milan," another X user chimed in, while someone else added , "And that's why I'm going to see her in Sweden."

Traveling to different countries to see the show has become somewhat of a new trend with the Eras Tour, especially now that Swift has released her newest album, The Tortured Poets Department , which is highly suspected to be getting added to the show's already over 3-hour long setlist.

Swift will take the stage at La Defense Arena in Paris on May 9, 10, 11 and 12, before heading to Stockholm, Sweden the following week.

The Wind Beneath His Wings: Alum Manages Pet Bird’s Career

For more than three decades, Lauren Hefferon ’83 has run a company that offers upscale trips on two wheels

By Joe Wilensky

Already an avid cyclist as a high schooler in her native New Hampshire, Lauren Hefferon ’83 vividly recalls what she said to her father on her first visit to the Hill as a prospective student. “Oh, my God, Dad,” she told him. “The biking here is gonna be amazing .”

And when she arrived as a freshman, her beloved 12-speed Fuji Gran Tourer came with her. “I started cycling like crazy,” she recalls.

“The hills didn’t faze me. I used to bike up and down Buffalo Street.”

To this day, Hefferon’s passion for cycling endures: since 1989, she has owned and operated a company that offers upscale biking tours for small groups of travelers.

Dubbed Ciclismo Classico (“Classic Cycling” in Italian), the firm offers 50 tours in and around Europe every year, in addition to trips in the U.S.—including the Finger Lakes.

Lauren Hefferon astride her beloved Fuji Gran Tourer 12-speed in front of Risley Hall in 1979.

Depending on skill level and locale, participants generally cycle between 20 and 60 miles per day. The outings feature experienced local guides, as well as multiple stops to enjoy culture and cuisine.

“Italy-obsessed biking enthusiasts know they’ll get a great workout, feast on regional specialties, and immerse themselves in the culture,” observed Forbes in a story on Ciclismo Classico’s 30th anniversary, “which is why the company has an astonishing 75% repeat traveler factor and gets raves for their local guides.”

Lauren Hefferon, left, with two other cyclists on a first tour to the Dolomite Mountains in northeast Italy in 1995

Hefferon traces her love for bike touring to the Hill, where she served as an instructor for the Wilderness Reflections program (now called Outdoor Odyssey and part of Cornell Outdoor Education ), leading rides and designing and guiding freshman orientation tours.

As she recalls: “That was really the spark that got me thinking, ‘Oh, this could actually be a job .’”

While at Cornell, Hefferon even wrote and illustrated a bicycle camping cookbook, Cycle Food: A Guide to Satisfying Your Inner Tube .

Cover of Cycle Food: A Guide to Satisfying Your Inner Tube

(Published by Ten Speed Press, which also released the Moosewood Cookbook , it boasts such recipes as banana fritters and a trail mix called “Squirrel's Delight.”)

After graduating from Arts & Sciences with a degree in anthropology, Hefferon traveled to Italy on a Rotary scholarship.

Of course, cycling was at the top of her to-do list, and she headed overseas several weeks early to do some solo touring around Europe.

“I packed up my little panniers and landed in Pisa with my bicycle and started going up these hills, and I was just awestruck,” she recalls, “completely awestruck.”

Hefferon studied art in Florence in the mornings and explored the roads of Tuscany in the afternoons. She met local cyclists and joined a club called Il Chi C’e C’e (“Whoever is Here, is Here”).

And, for several summers, she led cycling trips for teens, biking and camping from Rome to London.

I landed in Pisa with my bicycle and started going up these hills, and I was just awestruck—completely awestruck.

After taking graduate courses in graphic design in the U.S., Hefferon headed back to Italy and led biking tours before launching Ciclismo Classico, initially offering a handful of trips in Tuscany.

Her company’s tours—which have been featured in such outlets as CNN, USA Today , and Bicycling magazine—have always offered educational and cultural elements, from cycling clinics to cooking lessons and immersion in local music and art.

Participants during the cycling tour that goes from Florence to the island of Elba

Since restarting operations following a pandemic-driven pause, Hefferon says, she has been focusing on the company’s original identity as a small, female-owned business; as she has often observed, cycling can be particularly liberating and transformative for women.

“They discover their own pace, their own speed,” she says. “Loving it, wanting to explore, seeing that it’s a 360-degree experience, all the senses.”

Lauren Hefferon with her bicycle in Tuscany in 1998

That feeling of freedom and self-discovery harkens back to a fundamental truth about herself that she learned as an undergrad, when a brief stint on a Big Red racing team taught her that competition wasn’t what she was after as a cyclist.

“It was about lifting up my head, looking around, and stopping,” she says. “The bike was my way to discover where I lived and the people around me.”

Such an amazing life story! May she be able to follow her passion many more years to come.

What a tribute to you Lauren and I share your philosophy it’s not a race but about the ride and people. Can’t wait to do Cycle across Italy next week in Pesarro Italy.
