Water buses to and from Cannes and the Lérins Islands

4 water bus companies provide sea transport: Compagnie Riviera Lines, Horizon, Trans Côte d'Azur and Planaria. The first three provide services to île Sainte-Marguerite. Trans Côte d'Azur also provides boat trips to visit the Corniche d'Or, Monaco and Saint-Tropez. Planaria is owned by monks and the only water bus company to sail to île Saint-Honorat.

After a morning of superb sailing around the Bay of Cannes, choose between one of the many fantastic anchorages for a pause. Swim, explore or simply relax whilst a Mediterranean style lunch is prepared from local products from the farmers market. For the more active Stand Up Paddle or some halyard swinging, or we can meander along the coast with the wind in the sails, or just chill out on the sun bed with the anchor down and discover the islands in the 4 man RIB.

Amazing Day Trips to Take From Cannes by Boat

Sunny Cannes , with a palm tree-lined waterfront promenade and glamourous Belle Epoque hotels, is one of the premier sailing hubs in the French Riviera, especially in May when the red carpet is rolled out for a galaxy of global stars during the Cannes Film Festival. Away from the high-fashion boutiques of La Croisette, you can uncover the cobbled alleyways of Le Suquet, the old town. The town has two ports, Vieux Port de Cannes and Port Pierre Canto. From here, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to yachting day trips.

Île Saint-Honorat

The second largest of the Lérins Islands, Île Saint-Honorat is the domain of a monastic order who’ve lived here since the early Middle Ages. The pine-scented trail that runs the circumference of the island leads past tiny chapels and rocky coves towards the cloistered monastery, a haven of peace and quiet. The only restaurant on the island, La Tonnelle, serves up fine dining in an equally fine natural setting.

A narrow channel separates Île Sainte-Marguerite from Île Saint-Honorat and, like its neighbour, the island is a welcome respite from the crowds of the coast (although, both are popular with day trippers in summer). Here, at the Royal Fort, the Man in the Iron Mask was incarcerated for 11 years – locked up from the cool swimming spots and leafy eucalyptus and pine-framed trails that crisscross the 3km (2mi) long island. Today, the fort is open for visitors. Inside, the Sea Museum traces the maritime heritage of the islands.

Cannes Underwater Eco-Museum

In the shallow waters off Île Sainte-Marguerite, leading British underwater sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor has submerged – at depths of up to 5m (16ft) – towering portraits of six Cannes residents. In doing so, he’s established the first underwater museum in the Mediterranean. You’ll have to swim out from the shore to find the exact location, but you can do so with just your snorkeling gear. Entry is free.

Mandelieu-la-Napoule

At the western end of the Bay of Cannes, Mandelieu-la-Napoule is another popular pleasure port and a recommended base for watersports such as jet skiing and parachuting. The impressive Château de La Napoule dates from the Middle Ages and was restored last century under its current American owners. Today, as a foundation dedicated to the promotion of international arts and culture, the impressive building houses a museum and cafe (open April to September).

Juan-les-Pins

In summer, the beachfront at Juan-les-Pins transforms into one long stretch of waterside restaurants, with inviting sun loungers arranged in neat rows leading down to the shore. With its own jetty, restaurant Plage Belles Rives at the five-star Hôtel Belles Rives serves a selection of local flavours at the water’s edge. Jazz à Juan festival in July, running since 1960, is a highlight of the summer calendar and attracts some of the biggest names in the genre to the beachfront stage.

Cap d’Antibes

Towering gates obscure the grand residences of Cap d’Antibes from passing eyes, but there’s plenty for the public to enjoy on this leafy peninsula. Take the coastal path that starts at Plage de la Garoupe and curves around the headland towards the Belle Epoque Villa Eilenroc (open Wednesdays and Saturdays), or explore the nature trails of the Garoupe plateau, which shelter a small chapel and lighthouse. The brightly coloured fishing boats at Plage de l’Olivette make this small bay an atmospheric picnic spot.

Théoule-sur-Mer

The sheltered cove at Théoule-sur-Mer is popular with families who appreciate the soft sandy beach and translucent waters of Plage du Château adjacent to the port. Dine with your feet in the sand at Marco Polo, a restaurant and private beach which has occupied the same stretch of sand since 1949. Fill your basket with local specialties at the Provençal market, held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings year-round.

Esterel Massif

The earthy-red rocks of the Esterel Massif range rise high above the water between La Napoule and Saint-Raphaël. The coastal road is one of the most spectacular drives in the region, but navigating it by water gives access to hidden coves to cool down in during a hot summer’s day. Coastal paths are marked out, as are interior hiking and cycling routes.

Saint-Tropez

Sleepy fishing village no more (especially in summer), Saint-Tropez is synonymous with French Riviera glitz and glamour. Grab one of the front-row tables at Café Senequier on the port for a spot of people-watching. In the narrow streets full of chic boutiques, you’ll find La Tarte Tropezienne, home of the cream-filled brioche pastry of the same name. The open-air markets on Place des Lices on Tuesday and Saturday mornings are an explosion of colourful local produce.

Sainte-Marguerite Island

Sainte-Marguerite Island is the largest of the Lérins Islands. As soon as you set foot on the island, you will be taken in by its imposing 152-hectare forest – the most visited in France – and its delicate fragrance of pine and eucalyptus. You can follow the signposted paths leading to the Étangs des Batéguier, or explore all the nooks and crannies of the Fort Royal. For those who prefer to relax, Sainte-Marguerite Island boasts 18 beaches.

The Corniche d’Or

Departing from the Port of Nice, take a boat along the Corniche d’Or, a renowned 40 km-long section of road between Fréjus and La Napoule. Discover an exceptional landscape, characterised by the contrast between the flamboyant colours of the tree-covered Estérel Massif, and the blue of the Mediterranean. Amongst this wild landscape, you can admire numerous coves and inlets, with their characteristic red sand.

Discover the city that epitomises film-making and its world-famous Croisette lined with luxury hotels. Indulge in a spot of window-shopping, taking in the famous luxury boutiques, try your luck in one of the casinos, or relax and unwind on one of Cannes’ sunny beaches.

When you arrive in the  Port of Cannes , start with a stroll through the Suquet neighbourhood and its narrow streets dating back to medieval times, visit the Musée de la Castre and admire the view from the castle overlooking the hill.

Saint-Tropez

A world-renowned seaside resort, Saint-Tropez is a popular destination on the French Riviera. After just over an hour-long crossing from the Old Port, you will call at St-Tropez, a town rich in cultural and architectural treasures steeped in Provençal heritage, and with a buzzing night life. Wander around the Place des Lices, enjoy a coffee outside a café whilst taking in the magnificent yachts towering in the port, or settle down on one of the town’s famous beaches.

Clinging to the rock overlooking the sea, Monaco combines ancient and ultra-modern architecture. You will have the chance to discover the Prince’s palace, its cathedral, and its oceanographic museum. You can also admire the Monte Carlo Casino and Opera, designed by the renowned architect Charles Garnier. Its exotic garden, boasting over 900 plant species, is an ideal spot for a stroll and some relaxation.

Evening trips and events

Depending on the programme of major events, Trans Côte d’Azur organises several crossings from the Port of Nice. If you head for Cannes, you can enjoy a breathtaking view from the bay of the fireworks set off at the Festival of Pyrotechnic Art, take great photos during the Royal Regatta, set sail for Monaco, or admire the extraordinary panoramic views which the whole length of the Bay offers…

A reduced parking rate for passengers!

Heading off on a boat trip from the Port of Nice? You can leave your vehicle at  Lympia car park  or  Phare car park  at the reduced rate of €10/24hrs simply by providing proof of travel. To take advantage of the special offer, you need to pay for your ticket in advance at the car park manager’s office at Port Lympia Car Park, on Level -1.

Fancy a boat trip out to sea with your family? Contact Rent My Boat on Quai Lunel and take advantage of its boat rental offers. Boats available at an hourly rate, for half-days, full days, and more. The nautical centre can provide you with motor boats with or without a licence, and is open from 10 am to 6 pm, Tuesday to Sunday, from April to June, then 7 days a week from 9 am to 7 pm from July to September. Port Lympia car park is located right next to the nautical centre, guaranteeing stress-free parking before you set sail.

Monaco Boat Trip, Cannes

20+ person motor boat with sightseeing & stop off in Monaco

This boat trip travels along the coastline from Cannes to Monaco, mooring in Monaco for the day so you can explore this beautiful town.

The trip departs from Cannes in the morning to cruise along the coast to Monaco, which takes roughly an hour. Once you've docked at the harbour you can freely explore the various attractions which include the Prices Palace, The Casino, The Oceanographic Museum, The Cathedral and the Exotic Gardens.

You'll then rejoin the boat to return to Cannes.

The trip runs from the beginning of June to mid-September. In June and September, the trip runs on Wednesdays and in July and August on both Wednesday and Friday.

• "We had travelled to Monaco and Cannes with Trans Cote D'Azur and decided to try the new catamaran tour when returning to Nice last week. I still can't believe all that we got for the price! A gorgeous trip 10am -2 pm with a beautiful lunch, tour of the Lerins islands, snorkelling on an absolutely beautiful boat. We did the half day tour with lunch and it was fantastic- 4 full hours with a delicious lunch of rotisserie chicken, salads, tarts, fruit. They served juice, water and bread when the tour began and a pre-lunch snack of cold pizza around 11:30. They didn't scrimp on anything and the attention to detail was amazing. The staff were very good at their jobs. It was a very enjoyable day. We had read here that going in the morning may be preferred- that sure was the case for us. Our morning had 10 total guests and when we disembarked at 2 pm, 30 got on board. So the morning is clearly quieter and well stocked for supplies, not to mention the sun can be unbearable in the afternoon. My only complaint (not that I am really complaining) is that we were not aware that the half day disembarks on Ile St Marguerite, not in Cannes, so we had to take a ferry back to Cannes to get back on the train to Nice. But if you know that in advance, you can either visit the Island (really worth it if you're not over-heated) or take the 15 min ferry. Just wish we had know that ahead of time, as we expected to be dropped back in Cannes since that is where we picked up the catamaran. If staying in Nice, pay the 10 euro extra to ferry from Nice to Cannes through Trans Cote Azur at 9 am- they take you right to the catamaran and it is only marginally more expensive than the train. No walking from the train station to the port (about 2 km) and it's a gorgeous view of the area. Incredible day- a highlight!" - Trip Advisor
