Disneyland Area / Anaheim Hotel Discounts

There are lots of hotels near Disneyland , and it’s not hard to find Anaheim hotel discounts . The Disneyland area is quite compact, with many off-site hotels located within easy walking distance or a very short shuttle ride away from the theme parks.

Some of the off-site hotels offer accommodations nearly as good as the “official” on-site Disneyland hotels. (Bear in mind that Disneyland Hotel and Disney’s Pixar Place (formerly Paradise Pier) are both renovated 60’s high-rises — and Pixar Place was not even originally a Disney hotel.)

Interesting fact: some off-site Anaheim hotels are just as close to the Disneyland/Disney California Adventure entrance plaza as the Disney resorts! For instance, Howard Johnson Anaheim Hotel and Water Playground is almost exactly the same distance from the center of the plaza as one of the buildings at the Disneyland Hotel.

Best Hotels Near Disneyland

First, we recommend several great  MouseSavers Preferred Hotels located very close to Disneyland, which offer exclusive discounts or benefits only for readers of MouseSavers:

  • Howard Johnson Anaheim Hotel and Water Playground – This fantastic value-priced hotel within easy walking distance of Disneyland gives you a ton of features for your money, including a wonderful water playground (one of the best family-fun pool areas in Anaheim, outside of the Courtyard, below, and the official Disney hotels). Every room has a small fridge and FREE high-speed Internet access. This hotel has been a favorite of MouseSavers readers for more than 10 years!
  • Hilton Anaheim – This is a massive, luxurious, full-service hotel just 15 minutes walking distance from the Disneyland entrance plaza, with multiple restaurants, room service, a kids water play area and large rooms with premium amenities. Some rooms have nice views of the Disneyland parks and the nighttime fireworks. You get FREE internet access and great rates with the exclusive MouseSavers offer.

If the Preferred Hotels don’t have any rooms available or don’t meet your family’s needs, we also like the three hotels below, which unfortunately do not offer special deals for MouseSavers readers:

  • DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Anaheim Resort Convention Center is a newer all-suite property down Harbor Blvd from Disneyland. We have stayed here or toured the property on several trips to Anaheim and it is upscale, well-kept and clean. It is a little over a mile on foot from the front gate of Disneyland, so you may want to use the ART shuttle service, which charges a fee, or of course if you’ll have your own car, it’s a quick and easy drive to Disneyland.
  • Candy Cane Inn is an older motel located in the same block as Disneyland. Though it has been around a long time, it is exceptionally well kept up. The landscaping is beautiful and the rooms are clean and tastefully decorated. A continental breakfast is included in the room rate. Candy Cane Inn operates its own private shuttle to Disneyland, which runs all day.
  • Courtyard by Marriott Anaheim Theme Park Entrance – This new hotel with extra large rooms that sleep 6 and an on-site waterpark is a welcome addition to the hotels that are within easy walking distance to Disneyland. Built to be super family friendly, every room has a king or double queen beds, bunk beds, two separate showers, a small fridge and microwave, Keurig coffee maker, FREE Wi-Fi and large screen TVs with Netflix. The waterpark and playground includes two 30-ft waterslides, a drench bucket, kiddie pool and separate pool. This hotel is close in feel to Disneyland’s Pixar Place Hotel — but the rates are pleasingly lower.

Be sure to check on the actual location of the hotel instead of just relying on the hotel’s name. Often the name has “Anaheim” or “Disneyland” in it, but the hotel is really located 25 miles and two towns away. Those that are actually in Anaheim will usually (but not always) be closest to Disneyland. Hotels in the cities of Buena Park, Garden Grove and Orange are also fairly near Disneyland and in a few cases, due to city boundaries, might be closer than certain Anaheim hotels.

Okay — assume you’ve narrowed down your choices. Now how do you get the best Anaheim Hotel discounts? Read on…

Shop Around Online

Government discounts, military discounts, priceline express deals, hotwire hot rates, flight + hotel package deals.

  • Beach Add-On

There are lots of useful websites to try for discounts. When searching these sites, be sure to use Anaheim, CA if you want to be closest to Disneyland. Parts of Buena Park, Fullerton, Garden Grove and Orange are also close to Disneyland — in some cases, closer than parts of Anaheim, so check a map.

aRes Travel

Expedia and travelocity, priceline and booking.com, hotel websites, independently owned hotels.

A great resource for promotional Disneyland-area hotel rates is aRes Travel , which specializes in Southern California hotels. aRes Travel is actually located in Southern California and offers reservations for most of the local hotels. You can book online with them, or call and speak with an actual person at (800) 680-0977 .

aRes Travel does not charge a service fee for most reservations, though a few select hotels that offer “Special Web Rates” may incur a small per-night fee. In many cases you will find that aRes Travel beats the top online agencies like Expedia and Travelocity.

If you book online, be sure to read the specific terms of the deal you pick (select “View Terms”) before finalizing your booking with aRes Travel. Most reservations have a 72-hour cancellation policy, but some hotel deals require full prepayment. Some of the offers on the site incur a $25 cancellation fee and some require a nonrefundable deposit.

Two good sites to check out for hotel deals are Expedia and Travelocity . Travelocity is actually owned by Expedia, but the two sites will sometimes list different deals, so it’s worth checking both sites if you have the time.

Expedia also owns Hotwire , and while their regular rates are seldom any different from Expedia, they do offer their special “ Hotwire Hot Rates ” program (covered below) where you don’t know the name of the hotel when you book, but can sometimes score a really good deal. (Expedia also owns many other sites, including Orbitz & CheapTickets , but we very rarely see them offer anything better than the “big two.”).

These sites may charge a service fee on your reservation, and they sometimes require full payment or a substantial deposit in advance. Be sure to read ALL the small print as you make your reservation (which may require you to select a link that says “terms and conditions” or something similar) so that you are clear on any cancellation and change fees.

The other huge internet travel behemoth (besides Expedia) is Priceline , which also owns Booking.com . Overall, we prefer the interface of Booking.com, but Priceline does have their Express Deals (covered in more detail below). Both sites are worth checking for deals and offers, but be aware that, like nearly all online travel agencies, they will sometimes add miscellaneous “fees” at the very end of the checkout process, and they may have cancellation fees and conditions over and above the hotel’s own policies. Be sure to read the fine print carefully.

Sometimes there are good offers directly through the hotels’ own websites. Check for hotels located in Anaheim, but be sure to actually map the address. There are plenty of hotels that have “maingate” or something similar in their name that are miles away from Disneyland. There are even hotels with “Anaheim” in their name that are located in Garden Grove or another neighboring city.

If you are a member of a specific loyalty program, you probably want to search across all of that hotel company’s brands. For example, Hilton owns DoubleTree, Embassy Suites, Hampton, etc. Here are links to the overall parent company websites where you can search their whole portfolio:

  • Hilton Hotels (DoubleTree, Embassy Suites, Hampton, Homewood Suites)
  • Marriott Hotels (Westin, Sheraton, Four Points by Sheraton, Courtyard, Fairfield, Residence Inn, SpringHill Suites, TownePlace Suites)
  • Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG)  (Candlewood Suites, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Staybridge Suites)
  • Choice Hotels (Clarion, Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites)
  • Wyndham Hotel Group (Howard Johnson, Ramada, La Quinta, Super 8, Travelodge)

If you like a specific chain, you can go straight to any of the major hotel chains websites, listed below. For convenience, we list the parent company or affiliated loyalty program in parentheses where it’s not already part of the hotel name:

There are many independently-owned hotels around Disneyland. Most were built in the 1960s and have exterior motel-style corridors. The quality varies widely, but some are pretty nice.

A good way to compare prices on the independents is to see what kind of deal the hotel is offering on its own site (you can find the hotel’s site through a search engine like Google ). Then go to aRes Travel , Expedia and Travelocity and see if they have rooms for the same hotel at a better price — amazingly enough, these third-party sites do beat the hotels’ own websites fairly frequently.

The majority of major hotel chains (and many independently-owned hotels) offer American Automobile Association (AAA) discounts, which can give you significant savings. (Generally the same rates are offered for the Canadian equivalent, CAA.) If you are a member, always look for the AAA rate when checking online, or ask when calling for reservations.

Many hotels offer very attractive discounts to members of AARP (American Association of Retired Persons). They imply that you have to be 50 to join, but in fact anyone can join, and you don’t even have to be retired. Membership in AARP is very inexpensive and might pay for itself in one night’s stay!

If you are a government employee (local, county, state or federal), you should always ask if there is a government discount (be sure to carry your ID with you and have it available at check-in). Many contractors to government agencies also qualify. Most of the major hotel chains offer government rates, though you may have to call the hotel directly, since these rates don’t show up on most of the hotel websites. Thanks to ClaymoH for the info.

If you are active duty or retired military, you should always ask if there is a military discount (be sure to carry your ID with you and have it available at check-in). Often the military discounts are among the best offered by hotels. Most of the major hotel chains offer military rates, though you may have to call the hotel directly, since these rates don’t show up on most of the hotel websites. Thanks to John G for the tip.

Priceline , once best known for letting you “bid” on hotel rooms, now is primarily known for offering special deals via their “Express Deals”.  With Express Deals, they offer special deal on hotels without telling you which specific hotels they’re offering. Some Express Deals bookings can be great deals, but be wary – sometimes they’ll put hotels in the Express Deals set at a price that’s not significantly lower than the regular price. Our advice is to only book Express Deals when you have high confidence that the price you’re paying is well below what you’d pay for the cheapest hotel that fits the criteria you’ve specified.

Priceline will tell you some things about the property, but not enough to make it easy to figure out what specific hotel it is. You’ll know the area it’s in, some of the major amenities (with some removed to make things trickier) and roughly how many “stars” it is rated. Keep in mind that “stars” is not some kind of industry standard system, and what Priceline considers “4 stars” may not match what you, or AAA or some other rating guide would consider a 4-star property.

Disney’s own resorts show up on Priceline’s Express Deals from time to time, but very rarely. And you should know that there are a lot of cheap motels in Anaheim, many with lofty descriptions, but tacky, worn-out rooms. We offer the following tips to maximize your chances of getting something reasonable:

  • Use the filters they provide to limit yourself to 3, 4 or 5 stars, then select only from hotels rated 3.5 stars or higher. Some of the hotels that Priceline calls “3 star” are not great and the 2-star properties are pretty much all cheap motels. There are still a few mediocre-to-bad hotels at the 3.5+ star range, but the odds are much better.
  • Disneyland: this is almost entirely hotels within a block of Disneyland resort. Some of them may be “across the street” but not really near the entrance, so there still could be a decent walk (10-15 minutes), or you might need to use Lyft or Anaheim Resort Transportation to get to the parks.
  • Disneyland – Convention Center : this area is south of the parks and stretches all the way down into Garden Grove. The southernmost hotels in this area are too far from the parks to walk, so you might want to budget for Lyft or Anaheim Resort Transportation to get to you to and from the parks.
  • Remember that what specific hotel you get is really impossible to reliably predict. There are a variety of tools out there that try to figure out what hotel you’re getting, and we’re here to tell you none of them work reliably. The list of  hotels is constantly changing, and Priceline is constantly changing the way they present each hotel to foil predictions. Do not use this service unless you’re prepared to get the least desirable hotel in that category and area.

Hotwire has a Hot Rates feature which is similar to Priceline Express Deals in that you don’t get to choose the exact hotel (you choose the rough location and the star rating), and the room is sold on a “no refunds, no exchanges” basis. Just do a search on Hotwire, and the Hot Rates hotels will show up mixed in with some number of named hotels.

Hotwire gives you a list of prices for unnamed hotels in various star categories (i.e. a 5-star hotel will be a luxury resort, while a 1-star will be a low-end motel) and with specific amenities. At that point you can choose to accept or reject the offered price for a hotel that has a rating and amenities you want. Once you have accepted the price, you are charged in full. It is only at that point that you’re told the hotel name. There are no refunds or exchanges. Keep in mind that “stars” is not some kind of industry standard system, and what Hotwire considers “4 stars” may not match what you, or AAA or some other rating guide would consider a 4 star property.

Disney’s own resorts show up on Hotwire’s Hot Rates from time to time, but very rarely. And you should know that there are a lot of cheap motels in Anaheim, many with lofty descriptions, but tacky, worn-out rooms. We offer the following tips to maximize your chances of getting something reasonable:

There are still a few mediocre-to-bad hotels at the 3.5+ star range, but the odds are much better.
  • Anaheim Disneyland Maingate: this is almost entirely hotels within 2-3 blocks of Disneyland resort. Some of them may be “across the street” but not really near the entrance, so there still could be a decent walk (10-20 minutes), or you might need to use Lyft or Anaheim Resort Transportation to get to the parks.
  • Anaheim Convention Center : this area is south of the parks. The southernmost hotels in this area are a pretty long walk to the parks (20-30 minutes), so you might want to budget for Lyft or Anaheim Resort Transportation to get to you to and from the parks.

There are a variety of tools out there that try to figure out what hotel you’re getting, and we’re here to tell you none of them work reliably. The list of  hotels is constantly changing, and Hotwire is constantly changing the way they present each hotel to foil predictions. Do not use this service unless you’re prepared to get the least desirable hotel in that category and area.

If you need both airfare and hotel accommodations, there are some good resources for booking a cheap vacation package that includes both. Note that most of them offer the best deals fairly last-minute (typically 2 weeks to 4 months in advance). If you are booking really late (3 weeks or less before your departure date) these are especially worthwhile, because sometimes you can buy an entire package (airfare and hotel) for LESS than it would cost to book a last-minute airfare alone!

Learn more about the best places to find deals on these packages.

Beach Add-on

We’re frequently asked about the best beach near Disneyland. For those who are visiting Southern California and want to add a beach visit to their Disneyland trip, we recommend a short stay at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach .

Huntington Beach is one of our favorite Southern California beaches. We might be a little biased because some of us (Don and his sister, MouseSavers.com founder Mary Waring) spent a lot of our childhood there, but it really is a fun beach, and it’s located an easy drive from Disneyland.

The Hyatt Regency is a fabulous luxury hotel with a great kids’ program called Camp Hyatt, and it is right at the beach. In fact, Disney uses the Hyatt for its “Southern California Vacation Package” Beach Hotel option for Disneyland packages. (If you’re interested in booking that package, consult a Disney Specialist travel agent .)

Disneyland Tickets and Discounts

How disneyland tickets work.

  • How many days admission you'll need.
  • The dates when you plan to visit the theme parks.
  • Whether you want to go to both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park on the same day. This is known as park hopping .

In addition, for the foreseeable future Disneyland is requiring guests to make date- and park-specific reservations, and only those with valid tickets are able to make reservations. If you purchase directly from the Disneyland website or app, you will make reservations during the ticket purchase process. Otherwise, as soon as you purchase your admission you should make a reservation for the first park that you plan to visit each day of your trip. See our Disneyland Reservations page for details.

In 2016 Disneyland started implementing price tiers for 1-day theme park tickets, charging more for admission on dates when demand is higher. There are several separate "tiers" of 1-day ticket pricing. 1-day tickets are priced at $104, $119, $134, $154, $169, $184, and $194 for those age 10 or older. Tickets for kids aged 3-9 are $98, $112, $127, $146, $160, $174, and $183. The cheapest tickets (Tier 0) are found mid-week when school is in session. The most expensive tickets (Tiers 5-6) are for busy holiday seasons like Spring Break, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Our Crowd Calendar shows what price tier Disney has set for each day of the year.

Disney says its tickets expire within 14 days of the first day of use. In practice, they really mean 13 days after the first day of use. If you purchase a 4-Day ticket on June 1 and use it that day for admission to Disneyland, you'll be able to visit a single Disney theme park on any of your three remaining days from June 2 through June 14. After that, the ticket expires, and any unused days will be lost.

If you mistakenly bought multi-day tickets because you were not aware of the 13-day expiration, call 714-781-7290 or 714-781-4565 and ask to be connected to Guest Communications , which has the authority to issue you a voucher for the unused days on your ticket.

All admissions can be purchased at the park entrance, at the Disneyland Resort hotels, from the Walt Disney Travel Sales Center, on the Disneyland website , and at most Disney Stores in the western United States. One- and two-year-olds are exempt from admission fees.

The more days of admission you buy, the lower the cost per day. For example, if you buy an Adult 5-Day/1-Park ticket for $480, each day will cost $96, compared with up to $194 per day for a 1-day pass to Disneyland or Disney California Adventure. The "Admission to 1 Park Per Day" tickets include between 1 and 5 days of park admission and admit you to exactly one theme park per day; you can re-enter your chosen park as many times as you like on that day.

Disneyland Ticket Costs and Discounts

It's possible to obtain discounts on all multiday tickets, but only in the 1% - 7% range. One place to purchase admissions at a discount is disneyland.com .

If you purchase tickets on the Disneyland website, you can choose between hard tickets, which will be shipped to you, or eTickets , which can be downloaded as PDF files and printed at home. An eTicket printed from your home computer will show two bar codes. At the park entrance, a cast member will scan your eTicket and issue your actual ticket. You can also purchase one-day tickets through your smartphone using the Official Disneyland Mobile App without needing to print anything, but these mobile-purchased passes don't include any discounts or bonuses.

The deepest discounts we've found are from ARES Travel . ARES usually beats the Disney advance purchase price for multi-day tickets and also includes the Magic Morning feature. Note that a $2-per-ticket convenience fee is applied at checkout. You can order online or call 800-434-7894 .

Disneyland Resort and other area attractions sometimes offer discounted afternoon and evening tickets for convention goers. See disneyconventiontickets.com .

Multiday tickets do not have to be used on consecutive days, but they do expire 13 days after their first use.

And in case you're wondering, you cannot use 2 "days" of a multi-day One Park Per Day ticket to visit two parks on the same day. We have tried it, and it does not work: Disney's admission computer systems prevent that.

Park Hopper Ticket

A Park Hopper Ticket allows you to visit both parks on the same day. With Park Hopper, you may enter your reserved park any time after opening and the other park after 11:00 am. Multiday Park Hopper Tickets do not have to be used on consecutive days, but they do expire 13 days after their first use. On top of the base ticket cost, Park Hopper Tickets cost an additional $65 to $75, depending on the number of days on your ticket.

Genie+ Add-On

When purchasing a Disneyland ticket, for $30 per day on your ticket (e.g., $90 for a 3-day ticket) you can add-on Genie+ , Disney's for-pay way to wait in shorter lines at most attractions. (If you want Genie+, you can instead make a same-day purchase via Disneyland's app on any day you want it, but the price might exceed $30.)

Upgrading a Disneyland Ticket

Any time before a ticket expires, you can apply the value of unused days toward the cost of a higher priced ticket. If you buy a three-day Park Hopper ticket, for example, and then decide you'd rather have a five-day ticket, you can apply the value of unused days on the former toward the purchase of the latter. Upgraded passes expire on the same 13-day deadline date as the original ticket. To restrict the reselling of half-used passes, Disneyland photographs every multiday pass holder upon first entry for identification purposes; be prepared to have your pass (and face) scanned shortly before passing the turnstiles.

Disneyland Magic Key Passes (Formerly Known As Annual Passports)

Debuting in August 2021 after Disneyland ended its annual pass program, Magic Key passes provide a unlimited number of visits to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure theme parks for one year.

Unlike the previous Annual Passport program, Magic Keyholders must make a reservation in advance of the day they wish to visit. All Magic Keys are subject to reservation availability. There are several levels of these passes, each of which has different blockout dates (blockouts can be park-specific, although most of the time blockouts apply to both parks). Magic Keyholders are not able to use their Magic Key to enter a park on a day when that park is blocked out for that pass. Parking is only included in the highest level Key (Inspire Key). Those with Magic Keys also get perks including food and merchandise discounts and seasonal offers such as room-rate discounts at Disneyland Resort hotels.

Magic Keys are not valid for special ticketed events like Oogie Boogie Bash or Disneyland After Dark (although there may be Magic Key discounts for such events).

Magic Key "No-Show" Policy

Disneyland Resort's Magic Key program has a no-show policy which is designed to deter people from making reservations they won't actually use. Keyholders who make a reservation and don't enter either Disneyland or DCA 3 times within 90 days will lose their ability to make reservations (and, thus, use their pass) for 30 days. This can be avoided by canceling a theme park reservation, which Keyholders have up until 11:59 Pacific Time the night before to do so.

Disneyland Magic Key Prices

  • Inspire Key - $1,649 (valid nearly all days of the year)
  • Believe Key - $1,249 (valid most days of the year)
  • Enchant Key - $849 (summer, holidays, and most Saturdays blocked out)
  • Imagine Key - $499 (Southern California residents only; basically Monday through Thursdays, excluding summer and holidays)

Disney limits the quantities of each type of Magic Key, so you may find that some or all of these Magic Keys are not currently for sale or are only available for renewals. Note that the pass types have different blockouts days, number of simultaneous park reservations, parking discounts, merchandise discounts, Genie+ discounts, etc. See Disneyland's Magic Key Passes page for details and purchase information.

See Disney's Magic Key Access Calendar for blockout dates. No Magic Key passes offer access during the Christmas/New Year's period.

Disneyland Ticket Specials for Southern California Residents

In addition to the Imagine Key pass, Disneyland sometimes sells discounted "SoCal Resident" multiday tickets for specific date ranges. If you live in Southern California, see Disneyland's Offers & Discounts page to see what (if anything) is available.

More Discounts on Disneyland Tickets

Below a list of potential Disneyland admission discounts that may be available to certain groups and individuals. (Note that some of these programs may be suspended.)

Members can buy passes for a discount of 3 - 5%. Each AAA/CAA club sets its own prices for Disneyland tickets. Buying from AAA/CAA is usually cheaper than buying from Disney.

Convention-Goers

Disneyland, Universal, SeaWorld, and other parks sometimes set up a link cited in convention materials to purchase discounted afternoon and evening admissions. See DisneyConventionTickets.com and SeaWorldGroupEvents.com .

Disney Corporate Sponsors

If you work for a Disneyland corporate sponsor, you might be eligible for discounted admissions or preferential treatment at the parks. Ask your employee-benefits office.

Active-duty and retired members of the U.S. military can buy special Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $269. ( See Disneyland's page on Military Promotional tickets for details. ) That's $191 less than a comparable ticket sold to the general public. (Heavily discounted 4-Day Park Hopper tickets are also available.) Tickets must be purchased from a "U.S. military base ticket office," and pricing may vary a bit by office. Military personnel can buy a discounted admission for nonmilitary guests as long as the military member accompanies the nonmilitary member. If a group seeks the discount, at least half must be eligible for the military discount. Note that there are blockout weeks surrounding Christmas and Easter, so before purchasing make sure your travel dates are included in the promotion.

Disney Imagination Campus

Disney runs programs for K-12 students to learn how the parks incorporate everything from performing arts to physics. The program runs every day and offers substantial ticket discounts (with substantial restrictions). Disney usually requires a 10-person minimum to attend these events, but waives the minimum on occasion. See disneycampus.com for more information.

Where Not to Buy Disneyland Tickets

Only buy tickets directly from Disneyland (in-person or via disneyland.com) or from a travel agent or authorized reseller.

Others (both brick-and-mortar stores and folks in online marketplaces) are reselling used tickets in violation of Disney ticket policies, are outright scams, or will require you to attend a high-pressure sales pitch. It is impossible to verify whether the tickets are legitimate without trying to use them in the park, and at that time you may discover that they are invalid or expired, or that you do not match the photo associated with the ticket.

Disneyland Discounted Tickets

Disclosure: This Disneyland tickets page contains affiliate links. Read  full Disclosure Policy .

This is the Internet’s most comprehensive resource for cheap Disneyland tickets.

Most people will look at the Disney ticket price listed at Disneyland’s official website and assume that is the price.

Here’s the good news about Disneyland prices:

If you follow this guide, you’ll discover that the question: “How much do Disneyland tickets cost?” often has an answer that is surprisingly cheaper than what you’ll find from Disneyland’s site… or if you buy tickets at the gate.

Let’s take a look at how to get the absolute best Disneyland ticket price for your upcoming vacation.

Park Hopper A Park Hopper ticket allows you to go back and forth between Disneyland® Park or Disney California Adventure® park on the same day. Non-Park Hopper or 1 Park Per Day Pick one park (Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure) and enjoy it all day long.

Magic Morning Get one early admission to certain attractions, stores, shows, and dining at Disneyland Park one hour before the park opens to the general public. Available on select days only (currently Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday). Magic Morning is available only with a 3+ day ticket or Southern California CityPASS.

I always recommend getting the Park Hopper, as the parks are both awesome and they’re 100 yards apart from each other. I love the flexibility of being able to go back and forth as we please.

Wait…Is it Even Possible to Get Discounted Disneyland Tickets?

This might be a surprise to some. It was to me.

You CAN save money on Disneyland tickets … if you know where to go and what to buy .

Here are three tips for saving money on Disneyland tickets:

1. Go for More than Just One Day

There’s so much to see and do at Disneyland that just one day doesn’t cut it.

Personally, I think that 3 days is about perfect, but that depends on your appetite for all things Disney, your budget, the age of your kids, and so on.

Three days gives you a chance to experience the shows, parades, all of the attractions at both parks, all at a relaxed and reasonable pace.

Also, one day tickets are never discounted. The more days you stay, the more you save. No surprise there.

2. Always Compare Disneyland Prices

Disneyland has a few authorized resellers who are able to offer discounted Disneyland tickets at prices lower than you will find at the Disneyland website or gate.

Note: The one day tickets are never discounted.

However, you can save on ticket bundles of 2 to 5 days.

Since these authorized resellers are competing for your business, they often offer Disneyland tickets at a lower price than the gate price.

Prices from these vendors can change regularly, so…

Always compare Disneyland ticket prices before purchasing. You can save a lot of money with a simple check.

To make price comparison easy, we have created the Disneyland Ticket Price Checker above.

3. Only Buy Discounted Disneyland Tickets from an Authorized Reseller

It was a wonderful day when I discovered you can buy tickets from authorized Disneyland resellers .

I used to think I had no choice but to purchase Disneyland tickets from Disney. Discovering an alternative that would help me to save money on Disneyland tickets was exciting!

In this article, I will highlight three legit, authorized Disney ticket reseller with great customer service:

aRes Travel

Get away today, undercover tourist.

(You can read more about each of them below.)

Each has been in business for decades. You’re safe to purchase from them in confidence.

Tickets are Same as Buying from Disney

Tickets purchased from these vendors have the EXACT same benefits as those purchased at the Disney gate.

Avoid These Places when Buying Disneyland Park Tickets

With so many people wanting to know how to save money on Disneyland tickets, it’s no surprise that there are plenty of places trying to scam those people out of their money.

Avoid these places:

  • Any site that uses the word “Disney” in the URL (that isn’t clearly a Disney-owned site). Disney doesn’t allow its authorized ticket sellers to use their brand in their website URL.
  • Any broker selling 1-day tickets at a discount. Disney doesn’t allow this by its authorized sellers.
  • Anyone selling you partially used tickets. First of all, you can’t be sure if the pass will work until you arrive at the gate. Second, if the ticket does NOT work, Disney won’t help you because tickets are non-transferrable.
  • Craigslist and eBay. Scammers will try to sell you stolen or used tickets.
  • Any site requiring you to pay with any method other than credit card.

Where to Buy Discounted Disneyland Tickets

Disneyland has authorized each of the following companies to resell Disneyland tickets.

Here’s what you need to know about each:

Company History

In business since 1995, aRes Travel – Advanced Reservation Systems has been working with attractions and hotels for almost thirty years.

What makes aRes Travel different from other vacation vendors is that it is a private travel booking engine rather than a travel agency or other site.

That means that while there are people there to support you and provide customer service, this vendor doesn’t necessarily give the personalized touch of an agency.

The lack of overhead can mean extremely good deals.

How to buy Disneyland tickets from aRes Travel

Visit aRes Travel’s user-friendly website .

Then, simply click on the Tickets tab at the top of the page, and then select the attraction.

Disneyland is the first on the list, making it easy to find your tickets!

From there, select the type of ticket and the number to buy, and you can proceed to the cart.

ares travel disneyland

aRes does indicate the steps you need to take to link your ticket to your reservation, but you have to click on an information bubble to expand the steps.

IMPORTANT : Disneyland also requires park reservations, so it’s important that you check the dates of your trip to be sure that you can use the ticket you purchase during your stay.

When you’re making the ticket selection, you can see a direct comparison to the price you would pay through Disneyland’s website as well.

Screenshot of aRes Travel site

Once you’ve purchased the ticket, you’ll receive the ticket via email to then print out and take with you to the park.

You can also link this ticket with your reservation in your Disneyland app, which is what we would recommend.

One of the certified ticket partners with Disneyland, Get Away Today is an ideal ticket vendor for getting your Disneyland tickets at a slightly discounted rate.

In business since 1990, Get Away Today has been planning Disneyland and other California trips for over thirty years.

ares travel disneyland

They pride themselves on communication between their travel experts and guests, working to meet the needs of everyone in your party and addressing any issues that come up along the way.

Not only can you get Disneyland tickets through Get Away Today, but you can book all the other aspects of your trip as well.

This is where the big savings comes in – Get Away Today can help you save hundreds with your accommodations, on or off Disneyland property, including getting complimentary nights at some of the Good Neighbor hotels.

How to buy Disneyland tickets from Get Away Today

Dealing exclusively in Disney eTickets , Get Away Today allows you to buy your Disneyland tickets through their website, and also shows you the potential discounts compared to the actual Disneyland ticket price.

Screenshot of Get Away Today site

Once you have purchased your ticket, you’ll receive your Disneyland eTicket directly to the email you provided.

You can then print the ticket, scan them into the Disneyland app, or just open the email – the same way you would with a ticket purchased directly from Disneyland.

ares travel disneyland

Get Away Today also gives guests the opportunity to use their Layaway Plan, which allows you to pay for your Disneyland tickets and other aspects of your vacation in installments rather than all at once.

To use the plan does mean a $99 fee as part of the first payment, but you can make payments up until five days before your trip.

Once you’ve paid off the tickets, you will receive them in your email.

Starting their company in 2000, the “Frog Family” of Undercover Tourist has worked to bring magic to family vacations.

In conjunction with their blog giving all the best tips and tricks, travelers can also purchase authentic park tickets, book hotels, and find their rental cars through Undercover Tourist.

With the personal touch of dealing directly with a small business, their customer service helps to make your vacation magical from the beginning.

Undercover Tourist is consistently highly ranked with the Better Business Bureau.

How to buy discounted Disneyland tickets from Undercover Tourist

It is easy to get your tickets – just purchase them online through the Undercover Tourist site and the eTicket comes straight to your email.

Undercover Tourist shows you all the taxes and fees up front, and you have your tickets the same day since they are digital tickets.

You do not need to exchange the ticket at the gate, simply scan and go!

You can also pair these tickets with your other plans in the Disneyland app. Undercover Tourist also shows you the exact savings amount compared to the Disneyland price.

Screenshot of Undercover Tourist site

Undercover Tourist also shows guests the exact steps needed to check park availability for Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure, as park reservations are still required for entry.

It is important to check if there are still reservations available before purchasing the ticket, to ensure that you will be able to use the ticket on the day you wish to enter the park.

4 Easy Steps to Obtain Your Park Pass Reservation from Undercover Tourist

Okay, so you’ve found cheaper Disneyland tickets.

Now, you might be asking yourself:

Are there other ways to get deals on Disneyland tickets?

How can you get deals on Disneyland tickets ?

One more way to get a deal on Disneyland tickets is to buy combo ticket packages.

Here’s how this works.

If you’re planning a vacation to Disneyland, there is a good chance you’re also thinking about visiting:

  • Universal Studios
  • Knotts Berry Farm

If you’re planning on hitting any of these other attractions, you can get combo tickets through aRes Travel and save money per person.

Here’s how to save on Disneyland combination packages:

  • Look at the prices to buy the tickets from each park. I suggest you start with our Disneyland price comparison tool at top of this article.
  • Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood combo tickets
  • Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm combo tickets
  • Disneyland and LEGOLAND combo tickets
  • Disneyland and Seaworld combo tickets

There is no current promotion for Disneyland discounts for senior citizens.

Years ago, Disneyland Resort ran a promotion offering free admission to guests on their birthdays. Alas, this is not a current Disneyland promotion and purchased tickets are required for all guests ages 3 and older.

Cardholders of  Disney Visa  get a 10% discount on merchandise at Disneyland. Also, the card will get you a 15% discount on certain tours at the park.

What is the military discount at Disneyland?

Military Discounted Disneyland Tickets are available on the military base.

You will want to upgrade on the last day of use in order to use your theme park reservations and not worry about any blackout dates. Find out more details on how that works here .

How Much Are Disneyland Tickets?

Here are the prices you will pay if you purchase your tickets directly through Disney this year. You can use these prices for comparison, when looking for the best deal for your Disneyland trip.

Disneyland Ticket Prices 2024 (purchased directly through Disney) –

(adult tickets are for 10+, kids tickets for ages 3-9)

One park per day options –

2 day adult tickets – $310 2 day kid tickets – $290

3 day adult tickets – $390 3 day kid tickets – $365

4 day adult tickets – $445 ea 4 day kids tickets – $420

5 day adult tickets – $480 ea 5 day kids tickets – $450

Park Hopper options –

Add $70 to the above options, for a park hopper option.

There have been big changes in Disneyland tickets in recent times. We saw the biggest changes this year. You now have to reserve the dates you will be going into the parks when you buy your tickets (or shortly after). A Disneyland Park ticket does not get you entrance into the park, you will also need a reservation for that.

Get Away Today Disneyland Ticket Discount

More Places to find Legitimate Discounts on Disneyland Tickets for Sale:

Disneyland tickets costco: costco disneyland tickets update.

Looking for Costco Disneyland tickets? Sadly Disneyland Tickets Costco options no longer exist, but the good news is that vacation packages do.

The bad news first – Costco no longer sells Disneyland tickets. We are often asked about buying Disneyland tickets at Costco. This used to be a thing you could do online, or sometimes in the Southern California Costco locations. The Costco Disneyland Tickets you would find in the warehouse stores where generally only for California residents, but last we heard these are no longer available either.

Now the good news. Although, you can no longer get Costco Disneyland Tickets Discounts as stand alone purchases, you can still get Costco Disneyland Vacation Package deals though, through Costco Travel Services. So although you cannot get Costco Disneyland tickets alone, you can still get a good deal on them as part of a Disneyland Vacation package you would purchase through Costcos travel service. We do talk to folks that prefer to buy their Disneyland vacations through Costco, since it is a trusted source for them. They do often have great discounts, and offers, but we always encourage folks to shop around (check out the Get Away Today Packages to compare) as we have found that many times you will get a better priced offer through them.

Examples of Costco deals on Disneyland vacations that you will want to look for include:e a Costco Gift Card with purchase of a Disneyland Vacation Package. Most often though, we find that folks that specialize in Disneyland vacations offer better deals, like Get Away Today, so be sure to do some price comparisons.

Southern California CityPASS

CityPASS for Southern California

If you are planning to do more then just Disneyland on your trip, the CityPass for Southern California is a great option for discount tickets for Disneyland as well as the other locations you are wanting to visit.

The Southern California CityPASS is now a customizable product allowing customers to choose any combination of theme parks in Southern CA, including Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Universal Studios Hollywood, SeaWorld San Diego, LEGOLAND California, San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Safari Park to purchase discount tickets. You just purchase whichever theme parks you are interested in at a discount price.

Buy at your Grocery Store during rewards offers

This is a great way to save significantly on your tickets. Plan ahead and purchase during a rewards offer at one of your local grocery stores. Another tip about saving at grocery stores – they are not required to dispose of their Disney Tickets if the price increases. This means they will continue to sell the lower priced tickets until they are gone. I found some at last years prices at one of my local Safeway stores this Feb.

Some examples of ways we have saved in the past included:

Target Disneyland Tickets Savings – These tricks to help you saving on Target Disneyland tickets is probably the most popular one        out of the store options. You can save 5% off if you use your Target Red card to purchase Disney Gift Cards/Tickets at Target online          here. While 5% off might not sound like alot, those savings will add up (up to over $17 off per ticket, depending on what tickets you      select). You can get a Target Red Card as a debit card (attached to your bank), credit card or now they have pre-paid options too.

Safeway runs a get 4x the gas rewards on gift card purchases from time to time. They sell Disneyland tickets (or Disney gift cards) in their gift card section. For my family of 5, a 3 day park hopper ticket would have earned us 5000 in gas rewards – or 5 $1 off discounts. Since I can use them for up to $25 per fill up that means that this offer would have saved me $125 in gas that month (and so I consider that a $125 savings on the tickets!).

Fred Meyer (Kroger Stores) pays you on your rewards points

Albertsons runs promos from time to time where you will get a certain Dollar amount off your next grocery store purchase with gift card purchases.

If Disney is offering a Disneyland discount ticket deal that you can buy at the ticket gate during your visit, then consider buying the Disney Gift cards during one the promo offers mentioned above. Then you can *double dip* on the deals. You will get the savings for buying the Disneyland gift cards. Pus you will also use those cards like cash at Disneyland to take advantage of the ticket offer you found through Disneyland.

Disneyland Military Tickets

Disney salutes our Military by offering the following Disneyland Military Tickets at a discounted rate:

  • 3-Day Military Promotional Park Hopper Ticket: $245
  • 3-Day Military Promotional Park Hopper Ticket with Disney Genie+ Service: $320
  • 4-Day Military Promotional Park Hopper Ticket: $280
  • 4-Day Military Promotional Park Hopper Ticket with Disney Genie+ Service: $380

This offer is only valid through a U.S. military base ticket office, so you will need to contact your local base to purchase your tickets through them.

Things to Consider When Buying Disneyland Tickets:

Park hopper vs non-park hopper tickets.

We share more details in this post about what to consider when trying to decide between buying a park hopper ticket or not here . Non park hopper tickets can save you up to $60, so they are definitely a cheaper option. For the Disneyland park though, I always opt for the Park Hopper tickets. They are just more convenient for the way my family likes to visit the park. Some folks are fine with staying in one park per day – and if that’s you then its a good way to save.

Unlike Disney World, the Disneyland and California Adventure Park are right across from each other. Because of the proximity, its nice to have the option to go back and forth. This can be especially true if you are staying in one of the Disneyland hotels. They have a special entrance into the California Park for those staying at the hotel, and so its more convenient to walk through one part to get to the other sometimes. It is also nice, when one park opens earlier or closes later – to maximize time in the parks for the full day. If you are only visiting the parks for two days, its less important (as you can do each park in a day).

One more thing to consider when looking at park hopper vs. one day park tickets, is this. Will you be visiting during a special ticket                  event. By that I mean one that charges you to get into the special event (like Disneyland After Dark, Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney                  Halloween Party and Disneyland Grad Nite are just a few examples of events that may impact park operations or hours. You can find a             full list of those here . If you are visiting during one of these times then I again recommend a park hopper ticket. The reason is that you            can then jump over to the other park if one is closing early for a special event. Also, these events can make the crowds bigger, and you            may want to head to the other park for shorter wait times. If you opt to not get a park hopper ticket during these events, just be careful          to schedule your admission to the park that is not hosting the event for those dates – so you can spend the full day and evening there.

How Many Days to Visit

One tip that not everyone realizes is that you can upgrade your ticket once you are at Disneyland. For example, if you buy a 2 day ticket and decide to visit three days, you can upgrade at the park. You will need to have one day left on your tickets to do this, and then you can upgrade to more days (do this at the ticket booths). So, when in doubt buy the lesser number of days. If you decide to visit the park an extra day or two you can upgrade your tickets onsite. Just be sure to make your decision before using that last day.

That being said, we always prefer a 3-4 day hopper ticket with young kids. This allows us one day to explore each park at our own leisure. We then have a third day to finish off the rides we might have missed the first two days. If we do day 4 we use that as an opportunity to jump in and out of the park, and do a second round of rides on our favorites, etc. We enjoy a pool break daily, and like to take our time working our way through the parks and not feel pressured to do everything right away, which is the main reason we prefer this length.

You could do both parks in two days though, if you like a more aggressive schedule and less time out of the park. 5 days would be too much for my crew – by day 4 we don’t even spend that full day in the park (but we have been more then once too).

However, when there is a sale like the one going on now, where the 5th day is free – you might as well grab that! If you use it great, if not        it did not cost you anything.

There is also plenty to do for a full day out of the park, in the Disneyland area – so we generally plan one days stay where we don’t have park entrance. Downtown Disney has Build A Bear, ESPN Zone for fun, and much more. Pool time is also fun, and there are plenty of day trip opportunities in the immediate area.

Early Entrance

Multi-Day park hopper tickets will provide you one day of early entrance into one of the parks. If you stay at a Disneyland hotel you will get early entrance for each day you visit the park. This early entrance opportunity is a wonderful opportunity to get on the more popular rides like Cars, without extreme wait times!

One last tip

Some of the ticket deals above provide you a voucher that you have to turn in to redeem your actual tickets. Many of the hotels will allow you to pick your tickets up at check -in. All of the Disneyland Hotels do. If your hotel offers this service, it can save you time as you will be able to avoid the ticket lines in the park. This is a big perk when the lines are long!

Another important point: You will want to be careful when purchasing discounts for Disneyland tickets. There are plenty of scams you will want to avoid. In the past folks have thought they were getting a great Disneyland ticket discount and bought tickets off of ebay and Craiglist, and we highly recommend you stay away from this practice. These are fraudulent in most cases, and you will lose your money.

Folks sold tickets that had only been partially used for the remaining days. Disneyland has really cracked down on fraudulent ticket sales. They will take your photo with hand held computers at the gates. If someone else’s picture is attached to the ticket, you will not be able to use it. You will have lost that money. I would only buy tickets from a vendor you know is reputable.

I can not get the coupon code to work on the Getaway Today website. Is it the correct one? Or maybe it can not be combined with the May offer on Disneyland tickets.

We are checking now to see if there are issues with combining with the May offer. Will be in touch as soon as we can confirm.

I had had the same issue please let me know as we’ll want to Purchase them ASAP! Thank you

Hi Krissy, it sounds like the code is only good now if you purchase a S.Cali package with hotel and tickets. We will update the post today to reflect that information. Thanks for letting us know about the issues you had!

Is aRes Travel Legit? (Our Experience Buying Tickets)

Affiliate Disclaimer

Looking for discount tickets to theme parks or city attractions, but wondering if the aRes Travel company is a legit and safe company to buy tickets from?

We’re always looking for good deals when traveling and since we’ve personally used aRes Travel, we’ve got all the expert info on buying discount tickets through them.

While some customers have had poor experiences with aRes Travel tickets (usually because of the fine print), we had no problems getting discount tickets, and the whole process was simple and easy.

🗺 Overview: Is aRes Travel Legit?

👉 On our recent trip to Los Angeles, we personally used aRes Travel to buy discount tickets so we can share all the details on this company, whether or not it’s legit, explain problems some have experienced, share our personal experience, and list a few places aRes Travel tickets are available.

This company is pretty popular in California but they also sell discount tickets to attractions in other locations like Orlando.

🎟 What Is aRes Travel Exactly?

aRes Travel is a company that offers authorized/certified discount tickets/rates to:

~ Theme Parks ~ City Attractions ~ Hotel Rooms ~ Vacation Packages

This company is a great way to check for discount tickets to theme parks and other popular attractions in different cities.

While they do offer discount tickets to a variety of attractions across the country, their tickets aren’t always a good deal (more on this later) so be sure to check around to make sure it’s the best option.

✅ So, Is aRes Travel Legit?

aRes travel is a legit company that has been in business since 1995 . Our experience with them was smooth and easy, but others have experienced problems.

One of the biggest questions about their legitimacy seems to come from customers who purchase a ticket or reservation, and don’t realize that most are non-refundable .

aRes travel seems to be a legit company but with some bad reviews, you have to decide if the discount is worth it.

👉 If plans are concrete and definitely not going to change, aRes travel seems to be safe and legit, but if plans have to be cancelled, it might seem sketchy that there is a no refund or return policy for most tickets and reservations.

*️⃣ Tip : Avoid paying for aRes Travel tickets with a debit card to ensure an extra safe, legit experience (a credit card that can be easily frozen or the charges disputed is the best option).

🎥 Our Experience Buying Tickets

After checking Groupon and other discount sites, we found aRes Travel tickets to the Warner Bros Studio Tour (mostly to see Big Bang Theory stuff).

We went back and forth a few times, but finally decided to purchase the aRes Travel discount tickets to find out if they were legit or not. This was our experience:

➡️ For this specific attraction we had to choose a specific date and time (that couldn’t be changed later) before adding them to the cart.

➡️ After filling out the guest and billing information, we purchased the tickets on their website.

➡️ We shortly received an email from “Central Reservation System” (confirmation@areshotelsandtickets) with a link to print our tickets (for this attraction we had to print them and bring them with us).

We bought tickets to the Warner Bros Studio Tour through ares travel and everything went smoothly and the company was legit in our experience.

➡️ In the email it clearly stated that tickets were non-refundable, non-transferable, and unable to receive exchanges even if the tickets were lost, stolen, or damaged.

➡️ At the studio they scanned our paper tickets (we had to have the printed tickets not just an email or digital ticket), and we had no problems going on our tour.

*️⃣ FAQ : The Warner Bros Hollywood Studio is actually not super close to Hollywood (it’s in Burbank), and rides can be pretty expensive here.

✅ For us, going with aRes Travel was a super simple, easy, safe, and legit experience that was worth it to get a little discount .

👎 aRes Travel Bad Reviews

Despite our positive, safe, and legit experience, many aRes Travel customer reviews have complained of problems with the company and their tickets (many from issues with the non-refundable small print).

Ares doesn't always have the best reviews from the past but our experience was quick and easy with them.

⬇️ Most Common Bad aRes Travel Reviews ⬇️

❌ Certain attraction tickets having expiration dates

❌ A lot of small print that many didn’t read before buying

❌ Non-refundable or transferrable tickets

❌ Some email problems receiving tickets or emails never arriving with the tickets

❌ Unhelpful/rude customer service

❌ Some fraud alerts on credit cards when trying to purchase tickets

*️⃣ Tip : Don’t use aRes Travel Tickets if plans could be changed or affected by things like the weather (because there are no rain-checks ).

🎫 Where Are aRes Travel Tickets Available?

If aRes Travel discount tickets seem legit and worth it, these are some of the most popular deals they offer all over the country.

Popular Theme Park Ticket Options : ~ Disneyland ~ Disneyworld ~ Legoland ~ Universal Studios ~ Knott’s Berry Farm

Popular Attraction Destinations : ~ Orlando ~ Los Angeles ~ San Diego ~ San Francisco ~ Washington DC ~ Nashville ~ Chicago ~ New York ~ San Antonio ~ Dallas/Fort Worth ~ Baltimore ~ New Orleans

*️⃣ Tip : Not all aRes Travel tickets are good deals, be sure to check around to make sure it’s the best price before buying.

Both Universal Studios locations in California and Florida have tickets through this company.

Popular Hotel Destinations : ~ Anaheim ~ Hollywood ~ Orange County ~ San Diego ~ Orlando

Top Vacation Packages : ~ Disneyland ~ Universal Studios ~ Knott’s Berry Farm ~ San Diego ~ Orlando ~ San Francisco ~ the Cincinnati Zoo ~ Williamsburg

👉 For prepaid hotel bookings , aRes Travel does offer a guarantee that it’s the lowest rate for that specific room on those specific dates. If there’s a lower price on another site, they will match it within 24 hours of making the booking.

If you are certain you will be using the tickets and you will not have to cancel, these discount tickets seem to be safe and legit.

⬇️ A Few Current aRes Travel Ticket Cost Examples ⬇️

✅ Warner Bros Studio Tour Hollywood: Regularly $70, aRes Travel Tickets $58

✅ Columbus Zoo: Regularly $30, aRes Travel Tickets $23

✅ Kennedy Space Center: Regularly $75, aRes Travel Tickets $65

❌ Legoland California: Regularly $89, aRes Travel Tickets $110

❌ Legoland Florida: Regularly $74, aRes Travel Tickets $93

One of the most popular tickets to get from ares travel is to Disneyland in California.

*️⃣ Tip : If you’re visiting Orlando with kids, Venice Beach isn’t that far and you can search for and keep fossilized shark teeth here.

🔁 Wrap Up: Is aRes Travel Legit?

Despite some mixed reviews, aRes travel seems to be legit and great for discount tickets to various city attractions . As long as plans won’t be affected by weather or changed for any reason, buying tickets through aRes Travel should be safe and easy.

I just bought our tickets through Ares Travel. I followed the link in my confirmation email to print the vouchers (I bought 5 tickets). I assumed I would print out 5 e-tickets but it just seems to be a one page voucher. Does this sound right? I just don't want to get out there this summer and find I don't have the correct paperwork to pick up our tickets. Thanks!

VandVsmama

Yep, that sounds right. I used them for half of our tickets last October. You will need to take that voucher to the ticket booth and they will then give you the regular DL paper tickets. Once I got up to the ticket window, it took about 10 minutes for them to do the exchange. They had to get a supervisor and it was a little involved. Just something to keep in mind, though, is that if your travel dates change more than 10-14 days within your original travel dates, then you will have to exchange the tickets with aRes for new ones. This will involve them giving you a refund on your original tickets and then they will charge you for the new tickets. However, if the price of tickets has changed since you first bought them, then you will have to pay the higher price. It's a huge pain in the neck.

g-dad66

Yes, it was just a one-page voucher for 5 of us last August. It did take a while at the ticket booth to get the tickets, but we arrived at mid-day, so there was no line at the booth at all.

That sounds correct. Make sure that EVERYONE named on the voucher is present at the booth when you get your tickets. They are looking for some sort of identification for every adult in the party. We had our kids waiting for us near the gate, and had to go get them in order to get the admission tickets. It takes a few minutes, but once you are done you have tickets to access the parks.

I contacted Ares, they said only the purchaser needs to be there with ID.

sherilaine

We bought our tickets through Flight Centre, which is similar - they give you a 1 page, doesn't look like much, voucher which has to be exchanged at the ticket booth. No questions whatsoever - they did not need any ID from my husband, only myself as I purchased the tickets. My kids were nearby but not needed. The CM wrote the names on the tickets as they were printed on the voucher for us. It honestly took about 5 minutes and 2 of those were the CM trying to tell us stuff about the park we already knew! I'd not worry - they do this stuff every day there, it's not a big deal!

We just used them for our trip last week. Yes, I did have a tiny freakout when I only got ONE page, (and we had several tickets on each purchase...) but it worked out fine at the ticket window. My son had about 6 tickets to pick up, and he was the only one that had to show up at the ticket window with his ID. He was the purchaser. The rest of the gang was in their rooms offsite. He had no problems picking up ALL the tickets. This is the first time I have ever used ARES, and I have to admit I was quite impressed! And it didn't hurt that our large family saved about $70.00 by using the Mousesavers link!

I think that with Disneyland tickets (unlike WDW), they always expire at the end of the current year. Unless you buy them really late in the year, and then they expire at the end of the next year. Was your expiration sooner than the end of the year?

We have Ares tickets for Knotts - there is no expiry date on them other than 12/31/16, and we have one per person, not just one page. Printed at home so no pick up date, not sure what that is all about?

When I bought mine they asked me when I was picking up.

We've bought tickets through Ares a few times and have never had any issues. Out of curiosity, I just checked my email for a pick up date. It says Aug 23 but we aren't arriving till Aug 24. Does that mean they might not let me pick up my tickets if I'm a day later than the pick up date on the email? It never occurred to me to check before but now I'm concerned!

Welcome to forum posting Maryann,

For reliable discounts on attractions, you can also look at the Mousesavers website which is a good resource as they list current discounts ( they dont sell tickets). And you can compare various discounts and multi-attraction tickets to see what may work best for you.

http://www.mousesavers.com/california-discounts-deals/

Thank you. What about printing the tickets at home? Is that an option through aRes?

I believe for some of the attraction tickets they offer a print at home ticket is an option. For some its a print at home Voucher that you would exchange at the ticket window.

' class=

Be careful we bought tickets thinking they would be good because the tickets say they don't expire until the end of the year along with website. But on the email in one spot it gave us dates we had to pick up our tickets by. Our dates for our tickets were a month apart and weren't good for our trip. They refunded us minus a 15 percent fee. When I bought the tickets I was nervous and looked for dates all over the site and was given nothing but that they were good for a year. Bait and switch! Buyer beware!

Welcome to forum posting michellea707,

You do have to look carefully on the site, but it is listed when you actually click to purchase the tickets the actual date whatever that is. Their is no purposeful intent to defraud you, and that was not the case since they refunded your money.

The problem comes in with specific tickets, as some will expire the end of a certain year, and some have other dates that are different. Its not up to the company to decide what those dates are. General info is given on the site, and then when you check out specific info on tickets for expiration dates when you were purchasing, they are shown, but you must have missed. They are just not as good at showing you what they are, you have to hunt a little. But they are perfectly legitimate to use.

I just did a "mock" booking, and the specific date was listed when I clicked "buy".

You could also have just exchanged them for the tickets you wanted as well, as some people have reported doing that who didnt notice dates for the actual tickets they were purchasing.

Russia Gets Its Disneyland, a Cold War Dream Come True

Developers are banking on attracting Moscow’s rising middle class. “But will they sell emotions, like Disneyland?” a mother of two girls asks.

MOSCOW — A young girl finds a magic necklace made of mushrooms, but then an evil gnome steals it. Adventure ensues. According to her creators, Alfreya, the hero of a new children’s book who was conceived for Russia’s first theme park, is “an ordinary girl 10 to 12 years old with large, thoughtful eyes.”

One thing she is not is a Disney character. Opening a real international Disneyland in Moscow would be out of the question amid the current political standoff with the United States.

But Russia’s decades-long quest to build a theme park, which began during the Cold War rivalry with the United States, is finally reaching its fairy-tale ending.

The $1.5 billion Dream Island , when it opens on Saturday, may certainly remind some visitors of Disneyland. In place of Elsa from “Frozen,” there will be the Snow Queen, and in the Russian version of “The Jungle Book,” the jungle is populated by talking dinosaurs. Developers say the park will be inhabited by dozens of fairy-tale characters, all domestically produced.

Dream Island doesn’t mind if you invoke Disneyland to describe the park, but will point out that it has no connections to the Happiest Place on Earth.

ares travel disneyland

“The word Disneyland is on people’s tongues,” said Alena Burova, a publicist for the site. “In Russia, we say Disneyland when we mean just a theme park.”

The park has been built only now because it will benefit from something more essential than snow queens and fairy princesses: a large pool of middle-class consumers in the Russian capital, something that was missing when two previous attempts failed.

So, some 60 years after the Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev first floated the idea of building an analogue to Disneyland, President Vladimir V. Putin stopped by to inspect the park on Thursday.

For Amiran Mutsoev, a former shopping mall developer who is the park’s owner and director, the site is a major bet that middle-class purchasing power will hold up despite Western sanctions and low prices for oil, a major Russian export. That the opening coincides with the coronavirus outbreak, when some people may want to avoid crowds, is another concern.

“Will people come, or will they not come?” Mr. Mutsoev asked. “Of course, we are worried.”

The park expects five million Moscow residents and two and a half million tourists, mostly from elsewhere in Russia, to visit the animated dinosaurs and haunted houses each year, Mr. Mutsoev said. Tickets on a weekend cost 11,000 rubles, or about $163, for a family of four.

The average monthly pay in Russia last year was 46,073 rubles, or about $683. And it has been dropping in inflation-adjusted terms. The minister of labor recently proposed lowering the minimum wage — because the cost of potatoes had gone down. Over all, last year about 14 percent of the population lived on less than $160 per month, the official poverty line.

But Moscow and its 13 million residents are an exception. The average wage in the capital last year was about twice the national average. The trickle of oil money has already given birth to new businesses, some of the world’s largest malls and what sociologists see as pent-up demand in the Moscow middle class for better government services.

Well-to-do families, too, are a precondition for a theme park. Khrushchev proposed building one in Moscow called Children’s Wonderland after a 1959 visit to the United States when he sought to quickly replicate some American economic achievements, such as fast-food restaurants and widespread corn cultivation in the Midwest.

“He wanted to do it,” his granddaughter Nina Khrushcheva, a professor of international affairs at the New School in New York, said in a telephone interview. “It was an idea to mimic the soft power that America has to make people’s lives more interesting and better.”

But the project got bogged down in debates over which themes to promote. The military wanted a martial element, with tanks.

The Soviets eventually proposed a park around cultural, educational and scientific themes. The attractions, a Soviet magazine wrote, “will be designed so children can learn of conquering space, about radio electronics and amazing successes in chemistry, physics and other fields of knowledge,” while also somehow being fun. The government set aside land outside Moscow, but never broke ground.

In the early post-Soviet period, President Boris N. Yeltsin sought to revive the idea by forming a nonprofit organization to develop the still vacant site . This group enlisted children to draw their own characters and fantasy lands as a basis for a park, but it lacked financing and instead leased the land to an outdoor market, a motorcycle club and a cement factory.

The current iteration emerged as a partnership between the City of Moscow, eager to appease its politically important residents, and Mr. Mutsoev, the developer. The city provided the land for free. VTB, a state bank, kicked in a $600 million development loan.

Nadya Soloyeva, a Moscow mother of two daughters ages 8 and 4, said her job in public relations allowed her to afford the tickets, but she wondered whether the new fairy-tale characters would have the same emotional draw as Disneyland’s.

“Everybody is comparing these prices with Disneyland,” which now run $200 per person, she said. “But will they sell emotions, like Disneyland?”

Disney-like medieval towers rise at the entryway. But behind them lie gigantic, rectangular buildings recalling jumbo jet hangars, covering 74 acres. Glass cupolas enclose some areas. The developers say it is the largest covered park in Europe — and the only option for remaining open through Moscow’s long, grim winter.

The theme park has nine zones. Five were created by “Russian artists specifically for Dream Island,” according to a promotional brochure. The others are licensed attractions: Hotel Transylvania, from Sony Pictures; the Smurfs, from the Belgian company IMPS; the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, from Viacom; and Hello Kitty, from Sanrio of Japan. The Cuningham Group , a Minneapolis firm that has designed a variety of theme parks, including Warner Bros. Movie World in Madrid, created all nine themed zones based on the Russian and foreign-licensed concepts.

One of the newly conceived zones drew from characters in a classic Russian adaptation of “Pinocchio.” The centerpiece zone is the Snow Queen’s Castle, ruled by a fierce and beautiful monarch “wielding power over snow and cold,” not unlike Disney’s princess in “Frozen.” Both characters are based on a Hans Christian Andersen tale.

Mr. Mutsoev said he had hired teams of artists and writers and was confident in the pull of his new characters. He has published new children’s books to flesh out the characters and tell their adventures.

“Disney has its snow queen, and we have ours,” he said.

And he said he was glad he had ditched previous Russian ideas of one-upping Disneyland by infusing a park with educational elements: “Not everybody wants to read Tolstoy, especially if you are 8 years old.”
