MATTA Fair attracts top tour operators

KUALA LUMPUR, 9 March 2023: Ice Holidays (also known as Golden Destinations [GD]), Apple Vacations, and Andalusia Travel confirm their strong support and participation in the MATTA Fair due to take place from 17 to 19 March 2023 at the 52 nd Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur.

Golden Destinations has booked 86 booths at the MATTA Fair located at International Hall (Level 3). Apple Vacations has 52 booths booked, and Andalusia Travel has 26. Both are located in the International and Umrah Hall (Level 2).

Golden Destinations and Apple Vacations offer visitors a selection of overseas vacation packages featuring deals and holiday packages for travel consumers visiting the fair. Since the epidemic lockdown, the demand for Umrah has increased significantly. Andalusia Travel is a single platform offering travel bargains for Muslim pilgrims preparing to perform Umrah.

Golden Destinations work closely with tourism boards such as Dubai, Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan, and Japan (Fukuoka). It also collaborates with Malaysia Airlines, Air Asia, Cathay Pacific, Fiji Airways, Singapore Airlines, Scoot Airways and MY Airline ticketing booths.

Customers will receive GD Points when signing up for GD travel packages, which can be redeemed for various travel essentials, including GD Premium Luggage, GD Trolley Luggage, Hand Carry Bag, Travel Adapters, Umbrellas, Massage Pump, Water Bottle & Luggage Weighing Scale and many more.

MATTA FAIR @ NEW VENUE – MITEC KUALA LUMPUR

KUALA LUMPUR, 27 JANUARY 2023 – The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) is pleased to announce that the MATTA Fair, Malaysia's largest consumer travel fair, will be held on March 17-19, 2023, at the NEW VENUE - Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur. This event is not only going to be larger than previous years, but it will also feature more exciting destinations.

THE NEW VENUE: MITEC MITEC was established so that it could cater to the ever-increasing requirements of the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector. MITEC's modern corporate philosophy is closely aligned with its vision to see Malaysia become the leading MICE destination in the Southeast Asia region. Malaysia is currently positioned as an economic catalyst and the Gateway to Southeast Asia. MITEC's vision is to see Malaysia become the leading MICE destination in the region. The Venue is a game changer in the business events industry. It gives Malaysia the capability to compete and meet the demand in new growing markets, including regional and international exhibitions, in particular the market for "mega-exhibitions," which will attract over 100,000 visitors and conferences or conventions with between 200 and 20,000 delegates.

Over 52,000 square meters of purpose-built exhibition space and triple volume display halls with endless possibilities are available at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), which is positioned as an economic catalyst and the Gateway to Southeast Asia. The Venue is the largest trade and exposition center in Malaysia and the third largest MICE venue in the Southeast Asia region. MICE stand for "meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions."

MATTA FAIR @ MITEC The tourism and leisure business has been one of the most severely impacted by the tourism impacts of COVID-19 and is among the most affected industries on a global scale. It was estimated that the leisure and domestic tourism sectors lost a combined total of 2.86 trillion US dollars, which is equivalent to a loss of revenue of more than fifty percent.

Last September, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTC) hosted the relaunch of MATTA Fair in the post-COVID19 transitional period. The fact that the exhibition space on the other side of the river is no longer available makes it difficult for us to continue there. In addition, even if it were still available, we were unable to expand to fulfil the needs of our members and other exhibitors; thus, the move to MITEC.

The 52nd MATTA Fair will be held at MITEC in March 2023, and it will occupy the entire facility, which includes all three exhibition levels or floors. As a result, it will take up almost 37,000 meters of area in which exhibitors can display their products. The MATTA FAIR will set a new record for its size with this event.

The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) expects that the global travel and tourism sectors will recover to the levels they were at before the pandemic in the year 2023 and expand at a rate that will be faster than the growth of the world gross domestic product (GDP).

It is anticipated that the industry will achieve an annual average growth rate of 5.8% between the years 2022 and 2032, compared to the expansion of 2.7% in the global GDP, and that it will create 126 million new employments. It is expected that the recovery will be so impressive that it will recover in a very robust manner. The reopening of China is a necessary condition for this to take place, and China has actually reopened as of late.

Thus, the relocation of MATTA FAIR to MITEC is not only appropriate but also conducive to its future expansion.

WHAT’S NEW @ MATTA FAIR SAUDI ARABIA is the up-and-coming player in this game. It is now one of our featured destinations to visit. It is a destination not just for Muslims and a destination for Umrah and Hajj (Pilgrimage) only, but it is now a destination for everyone. In addition, with the advent of a tourist visa that is valid for an entire year with multiple entries and with Malaysia being one of the few privilege countries to have been selected/offered, Malaysians should not pass up the opportunity to take advantage of this.

There are a greater variety of food options and sufficient space for everyone.

Level 1 or the Ground Floor is designated as Domestic sphere. Here you will find all of Malaysia's tourism items, including attractions, hotels, cottages, and goods produced, among others. In addition, all State Tourism Organizations (STO) would be located here. Perak is in the lead by occupying one-fifth of the floor area, making it the largest exhibitor in the Domestic section/hall. Other states such as Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Johor, Pahang, Terengganu, Sarawak, and Sabah are included in on this floor. So is Tourism Malaysian, the National Tourism Office of Malaysia.

The levels 2 and 3, often known as the upper levels, are designated as the international section (Outbound). It will house a variety of National Tourism Offices (NTO) on this floors/levels, including those from the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Hong Kong, Korea, and the Maldives, to name just a few.

We also have a UMRAH section, which can be found on Level 2, which is also known as the Middle Floor. All of those Umrah operators who have been granted a license by the Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture (MOTAC) will be selling their Umrah and Hajj packages here, in addition to the other tours and services that are available.

TRANSPORTATION MATTA is ecstatic to share the news that we will be providing frequent and free shuttle services at designated pick-up/drop-off points, specifically within the vicinity of MITEC, namely at Hentian Duta, Kompleks Mahkamah, Masjid Wilayah, MITI & MATRADE. This is an exciting development for us, and we hope you find it useful. Other locations, particularly those that are located close to MRT stations, are being planned and will be announced at the appropriate time.

KUALA LUMPUR: Some 200,000 visitors are expected at the Malaysian Association of Tour & Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair 2023, which will be held from Sept 1-3 at the Malaysian International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec).

In announcing this, MATTA deputy president Sheikh Awadh Abdullah also said that RHB Banking Group is the exclusive platinum sponsor for this edition.

“We are happy that RHB is our platinum sponsor. We hope this partnership will be beneficial for both parties.

“The September fair is expected to have a turnover of RM350mil in total sales, including RM70mil alone for domestic revenue and turnover,” he said on Wednesday (Aug 23).

During the fair, RHB Bank is offering attractive card promotions, travel-related deals and discounts and sign-ups at Level 3 (Main Booth) and Level 1 for those who want to apply the RHB Multi Currency Visa Debit Card/-I or RHB Visa Credit Card/-i.

The multi-currency card holders can enjoy discounts of up to 60% on flights and hotel stays when they purchase travel packages with travel merchant partners at the fair.

With the card, holiday-goers can also transact in ringgit and 16 foreign currencies, access premium airport lounges and gain RHB loyalty points for overseas retail spending.

Cardholders are able to enjoy an 0% per-annum instalment for up to 36 months via the RHB Smart Instalment Payment Plan or Dial-an-Instalment with lower interest on their retail purchase.

RHB Banking Group Managing Director of Group Community Banking Jeffrey Ng Eow Oo said they are excited to be part of the event while hoping to create value for both MATTA and consumers at large.

“Post-pandemic, RHB has been an active proponent in driving the local hospitality and tourism industries. It is about the nation’s goal in reviving industries," he said.

“With that in mind, we have hosted a lot of collaboration with MATTA partners specifically and all the merchants participating to drive and increase the travel business in volumes particularly in the upcoming fair," added Ng.

Ng then said that RHB had introduced all the financial options available to the MATTA partners that would help them revive their businesses

He added they have arranged unique promotions at the highly-anticipated event that draws Malaysians from all over the country.

When asked about the exchange rate for cardholders, Ng said there will be competitive rates reflected hourly.

The MATTA Fair September 2023 is spread across Hall 2 to 4 for domestic travel (Level 1), Hall 6 to 8 (Level 2) and Hall 10 to 11 for international travel (level 3) of Mitec with 1,368 booths and 199 tour and travel agents participating.

The state tourism organisations present at the fair are Labuan, Pahang, Perak, Putrajaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Selangor.

The national tourism organisations from Guam, Turkiye, India, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Uzbekistan, Tokyo, Philippines, Saudi and Uganda are also present at the fair.

There will be free shuttle services from Sunway Putra Mall and KL Sentral to Mitec, as such visitors are encouraged to use the service.

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 27): The Matta Fair 2023 in March will be the largest since the fair was established, and is expected to generate RM400 million in sales, with a target of 250,000 visitors, said the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta).

Organising chairman Rocky Kho said Matta expects the “biggest turnout” this year, more than the previous record of 113,685 visitors in 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The fair will occupy the entire facility, which includes all three exhibition floors, and will take up more than 37,000 sq m (398,264 sq ft) of space, in which exhibitors can display their products. This Matta fair will set a new record for its size,” Kho told reporters during a press conference at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) here on Friday (Jan 27).

“Currently, 1,313 booths have been taken up, and we expect more will sign up,” he said.

Saudi Arabia, as a new travel destination, is among the highlights of this year’s fair, he said.

“Saudi Arabia is the up-and-coming player in this game. It is now one of our featured destinations to visit.

“It is a destination not just for Muslims and a destination for umrah and the haj, but it is now a destination for everyone, including non-Muslims,” he said.

Kho said Malaysia was selected by Saudi Arabia as one of the few privileged countries to be offered multiple-entry tourist visas valid for an entire year.

“Malaysians should not pass up the opportunity to take advantage [of the visa offered],” he said.

Among the participants in the Matta Fair 2023 are tour and travel agencies, national tourism offices, state government tourism offices, hotels and resorts, theme parks, airline and cruise operators, and other travel-related services and organisations.

“We also have an umrah section. Umrah operators licensed by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture will be selling their umrah and haj packages here, in addition to the other tours and services,” Kho added.

Meanwhile, Matta said that shuttle services for visitors would be provided at designated pickup and drop-off points within the vicinity of Mitec, namely at the Jalan Duta Bus Terminal, Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex, Federal Territory Mosque, Menara Miti and Menara Matrade.

“Other locations, particularly those located close to MRT stations, are being planned, and will be announced at the appropriate time,” it added.

The 52nd edition of Malaysia’s largest consumer travel fair will be held at Mitec on March 17-19 (Friday to Sunday), from 10am to 9pm. Admission is free.
