Tom Cruise’s Smile Is Not as Perfect as It Seems Because of This One Thing

Jelly Roll Weight Loss

When it comes to smiles, Tom Cruise ’s teeth might take the cake — unless you look very closely . More than three decades in to his career, Tom is still one of the hottest actors in showbiz. He’s starring in the upcoming film Mission: Impossible — Fallout , scheduled for release on July 27, and we know his impeccable acting chops and winning good looks will make the movie a great one. No matter how phenomenal he is as an actor, we can’t help but notice that Tom’s smile consists of a rather odd middle tooth .

Don’t believe us? Check out photos of Tom Cruise’s middle tooth!

While he has amazing pearly whites, Tom’s 100-watt grin has one tooth that’s just a bit out of place. You can see from the photo that his teeth aren’t exactly symmetrical with the center of his face. Many have noticed that the 55-year-old actor’s right front tooth is just a tad askew, and has been widely referred to as his “middle tooth” for quite a while now.

Tom has certainly put in the time and effort to achieve the smile he has today. At age 40, just after his split from Nicole Kidman the Hollywood vet got braces to address an overbite and misalignment problems. He proudly showed them off while walking the red carpet at the 2002 premiere of Minority Report .

Tom has never been shy about flaunting his less-than-perfect smile. When he played Steve Randle in 1983’s The Outsiders , a young Tom voluntarily removed the cap from a front tooth that had been chipped by a flying puck in a hockey match. We’re impressed with his willingness to do anything for his job, even if it puts a flaw out in the public eye.

Last October, Tom attended a benefit screening of the film he starred in, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back . He came out to Knoxville to support Variety – The Children’s Charity of Eastern Tennessee, and was smiling big during his red carpet appearance. Some fans also noticed that, aside from his middle tooth, his left incisor appeared to be bigger than his right one.

Deal of the Day

During an interview at The Mummy fan event in New York City, Tom flashed a smile showing off his pearly whites. You can tell from looking up close that his right incisor lines up with his nose. Despite this slight imperfection, his smile has come a long way from his days playing the part of Steve Randle. While Tom has never come out and stated exactly what he had done, many dentists speculate that, on top of his braces, he received porcelain veneers and most likely had whitening treatments.

There’s a reason Tom Cruise’s smile is irresistible: his confidence.

Despite his dental imperfection, Tom has never lacked confidence. In 1985, only a couple of years after his career took off, the genetically blessed star explained why he decided to embrace his newfound sex symbol status. “It doesn’t bother me at all,” he told Entertainment Tonight at the time. “I mean, I don’t, like, resent it. I’m not tortured at night by it. You know, I’m actually very happy that people, you know, think enough of my work to feel that way.” His choice to embrace the public perception of his appearance has only driven success to his career, even now in 2018.

Many fans are also surprised to find out that Tom is actually only 5 feet 7 inches tall, which isn’t the “typical size” of someone you’d think would play Jack Reacher. In a previous interview, Tom was forced to open up about how his unconventional body type for superhero roles. “You know, [author Lee Child] created the character,” he said. “I had my own opinion that I didn’t say to Lee and then he came back and pretty much reflected what I had felt about it. But had he said ‘look I’d rather not,’ I would not have played the character.”

Fans have never seemed to mind his unique grin. Since he was thrust into the spotlight in the early ‘80s, Tom has remained one of Hollywood’s hunkiest actors. He stepped back into his role of Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in the 2022 film Top Gun: Maverick . The action movie was a huge hit at the box office, becoming the New York native’s first film to gross $1 billion worldwide, per People .

Fans could not help but notice Tom’s timeless look in the film, sparking major social media attention along with his costars Miles Teller and Glen Powell . Although it doesn’t seem like it, the Edge of Tomorrow actor — who was just 20 years old at the time — actually started off his career with a set of chompers that were very discolored and extremely unaligned. According to Heightline , Tom initially fixed this issue with teeth whitening and alignment procedures.

Considering Tom has one of the most famous smiles in the world, the actor didn’t want to draw attention to his face while trying to improve his teeth around 2001. Luckily, he was able to opt for invisible braces with ceramic brackets.

Tom cruise teeth

The accomplished American Actor, Tom Cruise has dominated the screens since the eighties. And while his talent has remained consistent throughout his career. The same can’t be said about Tom Cruise’s teeth. The multiple-times Oscar nominee had an iconic smile. And while it’s been along with his best assets, even Tom Cruise’s smile had a humble beginning.

What was wrong with Tom Cruise’s smile

Tom Cruise’ Smile wasn’t naturally perfect, in fact, it was the contrary. When Cruise first rose to fame, his teeth haven’t had all the work of cosmetic dentistry just yet.

Time Cruise’s smile was remarkably misaligned and one of his incisors was oddly prominent. His dental midline was way off-grid where his upper incisor took over it.

In addition to his misalignment, Time Cruise’s teeth were also very stained. And all in all, his smile wasn’t up to Hollywood’s standard.

How did Tom Cruise fix his teeth

To fix Tom Cruise’s teeth, the actor had to go through many years of treatment to fix his smile. To get the perfect he currently has, Tom Cruise couldn’t opt directly for the Hollywood Smile procedure. Because Tom Cruise’s teeth were severely misaligned, he had to get braces first.

Tom Cruise had braces for his teeth around the time he was 40 and reportedly opted for ceramic braces. These types of braces are usually color-matched to your teeth so they’re not very visible. But this was back in 2002, now there are modern options if you wish to have braces minus the chunky look. There’s the Invisalign as well as bilingual braces.

The braces helped get Tom Cruise’s teeth into proper alignment restoring his dental midline. Orthodontics is always the first part of treatment in cosmetic dentistry. Getting the right alignment helps pave way for additional tweaks to polish your smile. Because when your smile is straight, it’s easier to identify other construction problems and opt for the Hollywood Smile.

While many might assume Tom Cruise was too old around the time he sported braces for his teeth, adult braces are in reality very common.

As for the staining, Tom Cruise’s teeth have had whitening to give them a natural glow. But since then, the actor has upgraded his treatments wearing veneers for the ultimate smile.

The Takeaway

Tom Cruise’s teeth took on a pathway similar to his career, rising into fame and perfection. Tom Cruise fixed his teeth in the early 2000s, so the technologies weren’t half as advanced as they are now. Now not only are there more modern and convenient options, but there are affordable ways of getting cosmetic dentistry. Tom Cruise’s teeth might have cost him a fortune, but you can correct more complicated costs for a trivial sum of money. For instance, you can consider the Hollywood Smile in Turkey, and for very low costs you can receive high-quality dental treatments. Especially at the leading dentistry center in Istanbul, Dentakay.

What Really Happened To Tom Cruise's Teeth?

Tom Cruise smiling

When Tom Cruise emerged in Hollywood in the '80s , he quickly became not only one of the industry's most prominent leading men but also one of the decade's most recognizable sex symbols. Apparently, Cruise took that status very seriously. Even before breaking through with 1983's "Risky Business," Cruise had always been rather conscious of how he looked in front of the camera, his old agent Eileen Berlin told the Daily Mail in February 2022. "Tommy had many faces — you see it in the photos," the retired executive said.

According to Berlin, with whom Cruise lived when he was starting out at 18, Cruise relentlessly prepared before photo sessions, in an effort to emphasize what he considered to be his strongest features. "We had a mirrored wall and he'd walk around in his little jockey shorts and nothing else and ball up his fists and flex his biceps and admire himself in the mirror," she described. While he knew he was handsome, Cruise was self-conscious about his height . "He said he would like some shoes that would lift him up a bit," she said.

Cruise has reportedly gone to great lengths to conceal his 5 foot, 7 inch stature, often making producers apply different techniques to make him appear as tall as his co-stars, according to Refinery29 . In light of Cruise's perceived vanity, rumors about plastic surgery and other corrective procedures has followed him throughout his career. That even includes Cruise's smile, with many contending his grin has changed over the years.

Everyone has an opinion about Tom Cruise's front teeth

Tom Cruise's smile was a big part of the boyish charm that made him so popular in the '80s and '90s. But his wasn't what most would call a perfect smile. As seen in the photo above, Cruise's front teeth aren't aligned with the center of his face, giving the impression Cruise has a "mono-tooth," as  Metro described. "The mid point between his two central upper teeth (the dental midline) did not match the midline of his face, giving him the appearance of a single prominent front tooth," said Dr. Asif Chatoo of  The London Lingual Orthodontic Clinic .

Some believe the trait was less pronounced in his early career , leading experts to conjecture that Cruise has undergone upper jaw surgery, Showbiz Cheat Sheet noted. Additionally, the perceived changes in color and texture of Cruise's teeth has given way to theories he has used porcelain veneers, according to Life & Style magazine. Others have also suggested he has whitened his teeth, but, honestly, who in showbiz hasn't? It was Hollywood that popularized the practice to begin with, U.K. clinic St. Peter's Lodge  noted.

But, just as Cruise has never addressed his supposed insecurity about his height, he also doesn't really comment on his smile. The only concrete evidence we have of anything he's done comes from the 2002 "Minority Report" premiere, where he was photographed wearing braces that he got to help correct an overbite. "My mouth wasn't closing properly," he said (via  Time ).

Tom Cruise inspired cosmetic surgery rumors as recently as 2021

Tom Cruise's looks drew unwanted public attention in October 2021 when he attended a baseball game, Page Six reported. The "Mission Impossible" star's face looked swollen, leading many to wonder whether Cruise had had cosmetics procedures done or gained weight. Social media users took to Twitter to mock his appearance, drawing comparisons to Norm MacDonald, who had recently died . "Norm macdonald being reincarnated into tom cruise is one of his best bits ever," one wrote .

However, many others defended Cruise while criticizing the normalization of online body-shaming. "I had hoped people learnt to not comment on men's bodies after mocking Zac Efron for gaining weight and supposedly being 'ugly,' despite knowing his history of eating disorders, addiction and body image struggles," one user tweeted . "Leave Tom Cruise and his face alone. People are allowed to change."

But because Cruise had been spotted over the summer with his so-called normal face and it seemingly returned to what fans were used to shortly after, experts hypothesized the swelling could've been caused by cosmetics treatments. "Tom definitely looks swollen and puffy, which could be due to filler, post procedure swelling or weight gain," a practitioner told The U.S. Sun . Some social media users had an issue with this type of coverage, which seemed to disregard the possibility Cruise's swelling could be due to medical reasons. "He looks like he's on prednisone to me," a Twitter user pointed out, referring to the commonly prescribed corticosteroid.

We celebrate the self-awareness, empathy, and wisdom of women in midlife.

The Story Behind Tom Cruise’s Unique Teeth And Smile

Find out more about how Tom Cruise got his signature smile.

Tom Cruise smile

Tom Cruise has long enjoyed A-list Hollywood hunk status. From Top Gun to the Mission: Impossible series, he’s one of the few actors whom men want to be and women want to be with.

Perhaps that’s why he never hesitates to flash a mile-wide grin in front of cameras. However, if you’re a stickler for details, you may have noticed that Tom Cruise’s teeth aren’t exactly perfect. Experts suspect that his bright smile is a result of major dental work.

Here’s what we really know about Tom Cruise’s smile, and how he might have achieved it.

Tom Cruise’s Acting Career

Tom Cruise in Risky Business

(Warner Bros.)

In 1983, Cruise earned his breakout role in the coming-of-age film Risky Business . The film kick-started a long career as a leading man with range. Cruise could easily shift gears, playing a bad-boy heartthrob ( Top Gun ), a heartbreaking war veteran ( Born on the Fourth of July ), and a sci-fi hero ( War of the Worlds ) with equal gusto.

But his role as a super-spy Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible launched Cruise into the highest echelon of stardom. The franchise has grossed over $3.5 billion to date and is rated as the 16th highest-grossing film series of all time.

There is no question that Cruise’s good looks and charisma play a huge part in his success. Some outlets estimate that the actor has a net worth as high as $600 million . It wouldn’t be a shock to learn that he’s tweaked his appearance over the years to maintain a top spot in Hollywood’s pantheon.

What’s Up With Tom Cruise’s Teeth?

The earliest giveaway of Tom Cruise’s imperfect teeth is in the 1983 movie The Outsiders . To fit the role of working-class greaser Steve Randle, Cruise voluntarily removed a cap while filming (his front tooth had been chipped from a flying hockey puck—ouch!)

Tom Cruise in The Outsiders

His chompers were also anything but pearly white. Check out his earliest roles in the 1980s and you’ll notice that his teeth are discolored with a yellow hue. However, it’s unlikely that Cruise turned to drugstore whitening strips to solve the problem. Dental experts believe that he had porcelain veneers applied for a fast makeover.

And who could forget Cruise’s brace-face era? At the 2002 premiere of Minority Report , the actor proudly flashed his mega-watt smile on the red carpet, revealing a set of wire-bound upper teeth. We credit him for being carefree about his efforts at self-improvement.

Tom Cruise’s Misaligned Smile

One particular flaw in Tom Cruise’s smile that people seem to obsess over is its misalignment. Look closely and you’ll notice that his teeth shift off-center. The result? The appearance of a “unitooth” that lines up dead-center with his cupid’s bow (it’s actually his right front tooth). To make matters worse, it’s significantly larger than his other front tooth, which draws attention to the asymmetry.

But braces, veneers, and caps—you name it, he’s probably done it—haven’t managed to fix this one issue. And that’s probably fine by him. As we all know, Tom Cruise’s teeth have hardly stood in the way of his fame. He’s already sealed his reputation as a Hollywood success story. We also suspect there are plenty of people who’d overlook a dental quirk to nab a date with him.

Smile Tom! Let’s See That Gorgeous Red Carpet Grin…

Tom Cruise Teeth: The Real Story Behind Tom Cruise’s Unique Toothy Grin plus his original teeth.

There’s not a single person in the world devoid of flaws.

Even multi-millionaire and A-list actor Tom Cruise is no exception – with his ‘former’ less than perfect smile.

But, Hollywood stars do have a huge stack of cash and a wide variety of resources at their disposal.

Think movies, endorsements, business ventures, etc.

Once they enter the world of stardom, they feel the need to “upgrade” their looks to fit in with the other stars.

Tom Cruise

A makeover, if you will.

Tom is someone most people have looked up to for his entire career .

Ever since he was young, when he first started acting way back in the 1980s, he grabbed everyone’s attention.

The effortless charms he owes in part to his good looks and innocent Tom Cruise Smile.

But let’s face it. Turns out, he didn’t always have that million-dollar smile.

Many celebs are born with imperfections in the tooth department and Cruise is one of them.

And the good news?

Well, he has plenty of money so he was able to undergo cosmetic dentistry and have all his choppers all aligned nicely.

If you want to know why he – and many other people – feel the need to do this, read on, my friend.

Here are some facts about Tom Cruise’s teeth – and a couple of photos to boot.

Let’s get started.

Tom Cruise Original Teeth

Let me set the record straight.

Tom Cruise isn’t perfect.

Yes, he was born with poor teeth alignment. The cupid’s bow of his lip shows the former asymmetry in his young smile.

Tom Cruise’s unique teeth weren’t always aligned as beautifully as the way you see him in red carpet events.

To achieve that so-called “million-dollar smile,” young Tom had to put on braces.

Tom Cruise Teeth

…and we all know how excruciating that is.

Turns out , he underwent cosmetic dentistry just like many others. For what, you may ask?

Well, you know why.

Tom Cruise’s Smile – to achieve that beautiful smile he so wanted to have – opted to undergo the procedures early in his career.

Wise choice, I reckon!

That’s why you may be shocked to see the photo above.

Well, as cliche as it may sound, we can’t always have everything.

The procedures involved whitening, bonding, fixed bridges, crowns, veneers, and dental implants. He endured all these for the sake of having that “perfect smile.”

Not to mention, it’s one pricey endeavor!

Tom Cruise Middle Tooth (Or One Strange Tooth)

Tom Cruise Teeth

What’s with your middle tooth, Tom?

One smile is all it takes to know how long – and how big – your front gnashers are.

And just like everything else that makes each human unique, your front top teeth will differ from one another.

Try smiling in front of the mirror. Does one front tooth protrude in a different direction? Does it have discoloration? If you’re a non-celeb, well, that likely won’t matter one tiny bit.

But apparently, if you’re an A-list celebrity – let alone the Tom Cruise – well, it matters…a lot!

Now, Tom Cruise has a set of choppers with the “right” color, size, and shape (at least according to his stardom’s standards).

However, it wasn’t always that way.

See that one front tooth over there?

If you take a picture of Tom and examine the center of his face closely, you’ll notice he has a big white middle tooth. Yup, there it is, front and center!

Bear in mind, though, in the celebrity world, having the best smile and fangs is essential.

…especially among singers, actors, players, models, etc.

Celebrities have to have that million-dollar smile.

That’s why most, if not all, move mountains to fix whatever needs to be fixed – tooth or not.

As unpleasant as it might seem, Tom Cruise middle tooth had always been referred to as a horrible “unitooth” or “mono-tooth.”

The actor’s good looks weren’t always complemented with perfectly-designed choppers.

There, I said it!

Tom Cruise Teeth Have Dental Veneers

When the Top Gun superstar was younger, he wanted to achieve better-looking teeth and a perfect grin with discolored teeth a thing of the past. That’s why he wore braces and dental veneers.

If you don’t know, dental veneers are thin custom-made shells used to cover the surface of the front upper teeth.

Porcelain veneers are often recommended by dentists for a good teeth makeover.

When he received porcelain veneers his damaged, disfigured, and stained choppers were now be a thing of the past in just a snap of a finger!

Tom flashed his sparkly whites for the first time at a Hollywood event after his whitening treatments.

Tom Cruise Teeth

Ha! Sounds good to me. Sign me up for that!

As you can see in the photo above, he’s already flaunting that iconic Tom Cruise ear-to-ear smile.

The smile most people have gotten to witness and love about him.

Tom Cruise’s Invisible Braces

Tom Cruise Teeth 05

No wonder they’re called “invisible braces.”

Later in his career, Tom finally decided to have his misaligned tooth set straight. He jumped onto the braces bandwagon if you couldn’t catch my drift.

In 2002, while at the premiere of his movie Minority Report , fans were shocked to find Tom Cruise with braces.

He only had them for a few months, though.

And after all, they helped him achieve that picture-perfect smile.

He had regular wires with invisible brackets to disguise his teeth alignment procedure. But, of course, every hawk-eyed fan noticed anyway.

Tom Cruise Had Invisalign Teeth Straightening Procedure

The Invisalign straightening procedure involves having removable, transparent plastic aligners.

Most celebrities choose this procedure.

Got you scratching your head too? It’s pricey, I know!

…but anything for the glitz and glamour, right?

I mean, would you want to be photographed looking unflattering?

No? I thought so too.

Sure, they’re much more expensive and much more convenient than regular wire braces. That’s the catch!

Tom Cruise Teeth

The good thing about them, though, is he can sport that stunning look in red carpet events without having to awkwardly smile for the cameras.

…something that you might do for the sake of hiding those wires.

Also, you can remove these plastic aligners anytime you feel the need to.

More Middle Tooth Evidence

Tom Cruise Teeth

A lot of people don’t believe Tom Cruise’s teeth ever underwent a makeover.

Some fanatics even go to the extent of trying to prove the claims to be lies.

First off, who on Earth has totally natural pearly white gnashers ?

If you have, well, props to you!

In most photos circulating the Internet, you can see that Tom’s teeth are bizarrely white!

Ordinary choppers can never be so white without professional help.

Other than that, they should be in tandem with someone’s complexion.

Smile! Show me those famous ‘Tom Cruise Teeth’.

A tad too white, if I may say.

Having a natural smile means having the bottom of the top front teeth equal in length.

However, in Cruise’s case, his two front teeth appear like crowns as they look much more dense compared to a normal set.

His front tooth, after being straightened, lies exactly at the center of his face.

…which is actually off!

For years and years, memes on Tom Cruise’s front tooth have circulated online, causing some “bashers” to call him out for having a “mono-tooth” or “uni-tooth.”

Yes, you read that right! Uni-tooth. Shame!

Tom, despite all his efforts, still has unaligned teeth, but that’s okay.

Others are quick to say he might have had a major upper jaw operation that resulted in a significant shift in his tooth’s alignment.

What’s the story behind those pearly whites, and how have they transformed over the years? Let’s delve into this fascinating dental journey!

Tom Cruise

Key Takeaways

  • Tom Cruise’s iconic smile was caused by a sports injury!
  • His commitment to personal growth & improvement led him to wear ceramic braces at 40, resulting in his dazzling trademark asymmetrical smile.
  • Tom Cruise’s signature grin has been an integral part of his success as an actor, Wow!

The Origins of Tom Cruise's Unique Smile

Tom Cruise’s teeth have been a topic of intrigue since the beginning of his career. Young Tom’s original set of chompers were far from perfect, with misaligned and discolored teeth due to a sports injury. This less than perfect smile was on full display in his early roles, such as Steve Randle in “The Outsiders”.

The injury caused a noticeable shift in his dental midline, with his central upper teeth not aligning with the center of his face. What was the source of this peculiar misalignment?

The Impact of a Sports Injury

Sports injuries can have various exciting impacts on teeth, including:

  • Tooth fractures
  • Tooth intrusion
  • Temporomandibular joint dislocation
  • Missing tooth, which may require orthodontic treatment, especially when it involves the two central upper teeth

In Tom Cruise’s case, a flying hockey puck during a match caused him to lose a tooth on the left side, resulting in a midline shift and misaligned teeth, including Tom Cruise’s middle tooth, which has become famous.

Athletes like young Tom should take precautions such as wearing mouthguards to prevent these injuries, even if they dream of becoming Hollywood stars like Cruise in “Top Gun”. In fact, young tom voluntarily removed his mouthguard once, realizing the importance of safety in sports.

Tom Cruise's Dental Journey

Over the years, Tom Cruise underwent various dental procedures to improve his smile, including teeth whitening and alignment operations. This dental journey led to a more aesthetically pleasing appearance, making his red carpet appearance even more stunning.

One of the most notable steps in Tom Cruise’s fix journey was when he opted for braces at the age of 40. The question arises, why did he opt for braces at a relatively late age?

Ceramic Braces at 40

Tom Cruise braces

In 2002, Tom Cruise made the bold decision to wear ceramic braces to enhance his dental midline and overall smile. His braces became a topic of discussion during red carpet appearances and interviews, with the Hollywood veteran even joking about his teeth on David Letterman’s show. Tom Cruise wore the braces from January to October of the same year, proving that it’s never too late to make a change to improve one’s appearance.

While some might find it unusual to see a 40-year-old with braces, Cruise’s resolve to pursue his dental transformation showcases his dedication to personal refinement and perfection. This Tom Cruise fix had dual benefits - it corrected his dental midline and mitigated the issue of a single prominent front tooth, enabling him to present a more balanced smile for the camera. With the Tom Cruise fixed smile, he continues to captivate audiences worldwide.

Analyzing Tom Cruise's Asymmetrical Smile

Despite numerous dental treatments, Tom Cruise’s smile remains asymmetrical, with his left incisor appearing larger than the right one. This unique feature adds a certain charm to his smile and sets him apart from other Hollywood stars. It’s a reminder of the fact that even the most famous actors aren’t entirely perfect.

Even though his smile lacks perfect symmetry, it has turned into an iconic trademark of Tom Cruise’s persona. His teeth, once misaligned and discolored, have been transformed into a dazzling smile that has captivated audiences for decades.

The Evolution of Tom Cruise's Teeth Through the Years

Tom Cruise’s teeth have undergone a significant transformation over the years, with noticeable improvements in color, alignment, and symmetry. From his misaligned teeth in the early 1980s to his improved grin in the early 2000s, Tom Cruise’s dental journey has been nothing short of remarkable.

The transformation of his teeth stands as a tribute to the advancements in modern dentistry and the perseverance of celebrities like Tom Cruise in upholding their image. Today, his smile is admired by fans and dental professionals alike, demonstrating how far dental treatments have come in recent decades.

Notable Moments in Tom Cruise's Dental History

Key moments in Tom Cruise’s dental journey include his natural teeth in “The Outsiders”, his ceramic braces in 2002, and his more symmetrical smile in 2016. These milestones showcase the dedication and effort it took for Tom Cruise to achieve his current smile.

It’s intriguing to ponder the influence of these dental transformations on shaping Tom Cruise’s image and in solidifying his enduring success in the acting realm. From his early days in Hollywood to his current status as an icon, Tom Cruise’s teeth have played a significant role in his journey.

Comparing Dental Solutions: Crowns vs. Veneers

Tom Cruise likely chose dental crowns over veneers due to the extent of damage to his teeth, as crowns offer more protection than veneers. Veneers only cover the front surface of the teeth, while crowns offer more protection and are better suited for cases like Cruise’s, where teeth have sustained significant damage.

Choosing crowns over veneers indicates Tom Cruise’s commitment towards not just enhancing his looks, but also preserving the health and lifespan of his teeth. His dental journey is one of both aesthetic enhancement and functional restoration, showcasing the importance of making informed choices when it comes to dental treatments.

Tom Cruise's Thoughts on His Dental Work

While Tom Cruise has never explicitly discussed his dental work, it is known that he opted for braces at the age of 40 to improve his smile. His decision to undergo various dental treatments throughout his career and his dedication to maintaining a dazzling smile demonstrate his commitment to personal growth and improvement.

Although he hasn’t vocalized about his dental journey, his actions communicate his intent more eloquently.

Alternative Dental Treatments for Tom Cruise

The consideration for alternative dental treatments, such as implants, might have been on the table for Tom Cruise. However, time constraints due to his career may have been a factor in his decision-making process. With a busy schedule and numerous film commitments, Tom Cruise needed dental solutions that would provide the best results in the shortest amount of time.

Other dental treatments, such as veneers, bonding, and dental implants, could also have been options for Tom Cruise. Ultimately, his dental journey showcases the importance of finding the right balance between aesthetic improvement, functionality, and time management when it comes to dental care.

The Influence of Tom Cruise's Smile on His Career

Tom Cruise’s smile, despite its imperfections, has become an iconic part of his image and has not hindered his successful acting career. In fact, his unique smile may have added to his charm and appeal as an actor, setting him apart from other Hollywood stars.

Spanning from “Risky Business” to “Jerry Maguire” and further, Tom Cruise’s mesmerizing smile has played a crucial role in his cinematic charisma. His dental journey serves as a reminder that even the most famous actors have their imperfections, and embracing these unique features can be a powerful way to stand out in a competitive industry.

Tom Cruise’s dental journey is a fascinating exploration of the power of modern dentistry and the dedication of celebrities to maintain their image. Tom Cruise Teeth – The Truth About The Actor’s Distinctive Misaligned Middle Tooth Revealed

Stephanie Ugwu

Tom Cruise was born with a severe teeth defect. His front middle teeth were distinctively misaligned, and everything was yellow when he first came onto the acting scene. He had also suffered a crack on his teeth from a flying hockey puck when he played hockey as a teenager. This gave the actor a crooked smile but all that has since changed as he worked on his teeth.

The veteran Hollywood movie star has since captured a large fan base with his perfect smile and the action-packed roles he usually plays in movies. His smiles are one that he doesn’t hesitate to flaunt to the public.

The History Of Tom Cruise’s Teeth

Tom Cruise was born with a severe teeth defect, which showcased a disarranged front teeth with a yellowish color that was different from the rest of the teeth. Apart from the teeth defect, he also got a cracked tooth from a flying hockey puck when he played hockey. The young Cruise moved over to New York from Canada when he got to the age of 18. He first worked as a busboy before picking up a career in acting.

His first appearance was in 1981 in the film Endless Love . His teeth defects were still the same, though it was not noticeable in the film. Tom Cruise also featured the same year in the film Taps where he played the role of a cadet captain with his teeth defect. Throughout the first stage of his acting career, he had terrible yellowish and disarranged broken front teeth and a little cover on the fractured part of his front teeth.

In 1982, the actor kicked off proper with a career in acting, not minding his terrible teeth defect. He spent a lot to see that he got a perfect set of teeth that would accompany his smiles and started treating his teeth with teeth whiteners and braces.

Tom Cruise’s teeth defects became noticed by the public in the role that he played as Steve Randle in The Outsiders , which he featured in 1983. He got to play the part in the movie because of a unique position that demanded he removes the cap covering one of his front teeth that were as a result of the crack he obtained when he played hockey.

Tom Cruise’s Efforts To Correct His Teeth After Becoming A Star

the tom cruise smile

On getting to a level in his career, especially during his movie role in Top Guns where he featured as a navy jet pilot, his teeth were seen to be straighter than before. He first began his teeth treatment by applying dental porcelain laminates to reduce the yellowish stains which were seen on some parts of his teeth. He was keen to find a lasting solution to the disarranged teeth and was spotted on the red carpet flaunting teeth braces which he wore with the intention of straightening his teeth.

Orthodontists are generally known to help children fix teeth misalignments using braces to ease pressure on temporomandibular joints. In 2002, the Mission Impossible actor took up this procedure to align his upper teeth and cover the cracked part of the teeth. These invisible braces have ceramic brackets similar to metal braces which use tooth-colored brackets instead of gray metal brackets.

Tom Cruise wasn’t doing all these to boost self-esteem or public confidence as he has been flaunting his defective teeth in red carpets. It was all an effort to give out the best smile that would correspond to his attractive facial outlook. He used this brace for almost two years before the completion of his treatment. It is noteworthy that he resorted to teeth braces because he didn’t want to draw the attention of the public to his face while undergoing the teeth correction processes.

By 2012, Tom Cruise, who never seizes to captivate people with his smiles, was spotted flaunting more improved white teeth on the red carpet and in a charity event. However, he chooses to keep his treatment processes under the radar and has not publicly discussed how he treated the teeth defect.

His fans suspected that he took a severe dental treatment with the use of dental veneers. The dental veneers are used to treat root canals, stains from tetracycline or large resin fillings, excessive fluoride, or other causes of teeth discolor, worn out, broken, misaligned, and gap teeth. The dental veneers convinced Tom’s fans that it could be the magic behind his sudden teeth reborn.

Tom Cruise’s Disarranged Teeth After Dental Treatment

the tom cruise smile

Most people going through this procedure for teeth treatment fail to focus more on identifying the straight line between the nose pointer down to the dental midline and make sure it is well aligned to have a perfect match. This problem was the case with Tom Cruise after his treatment.

Despite the effort, time, and resources invested by him in getting over the teeth defect, he had two notable errors after undergoing dental treatment. One was that the dental midline and the facial midline were thoughtfully separated, which means that his nose point and the part of his front teeth were in the same line. This teeth misalignment is a severe defect in dental treatment. The other shortcoming is that one of his incisors was longer than the other, which is usually corrected better during a proper dental treatment.

Tom Cruise has received a lot of claims about his teeth but hasn’t made any statement concerning these claims online. It has been pointed out that the claims about his teeth were true and this has prompted him to keep mute about the whole thing. But the reality remains that he is still showcasing his smile. In any event that he attends without loss of self-esteem on his teeth. The misalignment has also served as a means of advertisement for many orthodontists as they usually point out the final mismatch.

Tom Cruise’s Signature Smile Didn't Come Easy: He Had to Overcome Several Dental Flaws

Tom-Cruise-Signature-Smile-Several-Dental-Flaws

Iconic Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise has looks to die for - a stunning face and a charming smile, but the actor has overcome a major dental flaw to flaunt his now perfect smile.

The Middle Tooth

Cruise is undeniably one of Hollywood’s most accomplished actors, but his good looks and contagious smile is another reason he rules the hearts of millions.

However, there is a story behind his picture-perfect smile. The actor spent years to find the right dental solution for the front tooth, perhaps popularly known as the  “middle tooth.”

Many fans have noticed that his front right tooth is a bit out of place. In fact, if you have a closer look at his old movies and portraits, the pictures speak for themselves.

In 2001, just after his breakup with Nicole Kidman, the  Mission Impossible  star got braces to address an overbite and dental misalignment.

View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Tom Cruise (@tomcruise)

Cruise proudly flaunted his  invisible braces  with ceramic brackets while walking the red carpet of  Minority Repor t Premiere’ in 2002. The artist’s then publicist Pat Kingsley revealed Cruise would wear an orthodontic device for a year.

Even before that, during the shooting of  The Outsiders  (1983), where he played the role of Steve Randle, the then 21-year-old Cruise removed the cap from one of the front teeth that had been chipped by a flying puck in a hockey match.

The Dental Imperfection Never Shook His Confidence

Despite the dental flaw, the 58-year-old never lacked conviction. During his initial days as a Hollywood hero, Cruise mentioned why he happily embraced his newly found sex symbol status.

In a 1985 interview with Entertainment Tonight, he explained that the tag neither bothered him, nor did he particularly like it.

It doesn’t bother me at all. I mean, I don’t, like, resent it. I’m not tortured at night by it. You know, I’m actually very happy that people, you know, think enough of my work to feel that way.

The Transformation

The maverick actor started his career in 1982 with his genetically gifted looks and not-so-perfect smile. According to reports, he initially opted for teeth whitening for his discoloration and alignment procedures.

When he appeared at a public event in 2010 with the completely transformed look, people went head over heels for him. After completing over twenty-five years in the industry, he aced the fresh look.

By 2012, the actor had undergone a complete  dental modification.  At the 2012 premiere of  Rock of Ages , Cruise looked ever so handsome with his newly improved dentition and a fresh haircut. Later in December that year, the actor was also seen at a charity event.

However, the  Mission Impossible  star never opened up about his dental transformation. Many dentists believe he must have received porcelain veneers apart from braces.  Some dentists also suggested that Cruise might have an implant-supported ceramic crown in the area where he lost his tooth.

At 58, Cruise remains a fan-favorite, and the actor is known for his realistic acting skills, fantastic persona, and charismatic looks.

How Tom Cruise Got His Teeth Done

Being one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, Tom Cruise is no stranger to rumours and controversies.

Tom Cruise’s teeth have been at the centre of it from time and time again. Known for his dashingly good looks and versatility as an actor, the megastar is still flying high even as he approaches his 60s.

Even though the Top Gun star’s looks have changed dramatically throughout the years, it’s his teeth that are always left people with a lot of questions.

So, let’s find out what’s really going on with them.

Who Is Tom Cruise?

Thomas Cruise Mapother IV was born in 1962 in New York and later took on the stage name Tom Cruise.

Since his father was a part of the Canadian Armed Forces, he grew up in Canada, where his interest in acting was first cultivated.

Dubbed “Hollywood’s last real movie star,” he is the stuff of legends.

Tom Cruise

He’s been gracing the big screen since the 80s, smashing out one hit after another, not letting any of his personal life drama or even his age deter him.

Despite being on top of his game, he has managed to stay elusive, not accounting for the display of some “bizarre” moments here and there.

It was at the age of 18 that he seriously started to pursue acting, for which he first went to New York and then Los Angeles (LA) – synonymous with Hollywood itself.

Tom Cruise’s Professional Career

Tom got his first role in Brooke Shields’ Endless Love as Billy. However, he went on to play more prominent roles in Taps and The Outsiders . But it was his breakout role in Top Gun that got everyone’s attention.

From there on, it was an upward trajectory for the action star, who went out to star in the critically acclaimed Rain Man, Risky Business, The Color of Money, Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire , and Magnolia , among many others.

He has also been a part of some of the biggest movie franchises, the most successful of them being Mission Impossible , in which he has done many life-endangering stunts as his character Ethan Hunt.

While Mission Impossible 8 is still in the works, he recently starred in part 2 of the cult classic Top Gun .

It goes without saying that this Hollywood A-lister is one of the highest-paid and highest-grossing actors of all time.

He has also won Golden Globes and received nominations for the Academy Awards and British Academy Film Awards. More recently, he was given an honorary Palme d’Or at the Cannes film festival 2022.

Does Tom Cruise Have A Tooth Gap?

From a very young age, Tom Cruise’s teeth weren’t exactly “Hollywood dazzling.” They were misaligned and chipped with a pronounced overbite . However, before making his way to Hollywood, he got some dental work done.

We know that was the case because reportedly, he removed the “cap” (another name for dental crown ) from one of his front teeth (probably the one on the right) to add to his character of Steve Randle in The Outsiders .

It is believed that his teeth were badly damaged as a result of a sports injury involving a hockey puck. The actor did play hockey when he was young, so it’s possible that he knocked his teeth out as a result of that.

A missing tooth on the left side of his upper jaw is also the reason why he has the “middle tooth.” His teeth have shifted to the left, which is why his dental midline is also to the left.

Tom Cruises teeth

This is actually something that happens when people are missing their teeth. The surrounding teeth shift into the space left behind, which can make them misaligned and crooked.

There are also some other stories about Tom Cruise’s teeth. One involves the former editor-in-chief of The New York Post, Col Allan. Apparently, Tom Cruise’s front teeth fell out when he was having drinks with the journalist.

Allan recounts being “speechless” because of the incident.

At that time, Cruise told Allan that he had lost his teeth after one of his children’s heels struck them while he was playing with them. While the actor had reportedly “pleaded” that the information not be made public, that, unfortunately, is not the case anymore.

How Did Tom Cruise Fix His Teeth?

It is believed that the Mission Impossible star had crowns on his teeth. However, it is possible for people to get both crowns and veneers at the same time.

What will suit them better will depend on the condition of their teeth, their location and the severity of their problem. But veneers can also effectively hide the teeth, although it only covers their front surface.

Other than that, Tom Cruise may also have had a teeth whitening procedure.

Despite him having a “unitooth” and not the traditionally “perfect” teeth, there are many people who admire his million-dollar smile.

And the reason why it dazzles so maybe teeth whitening treatments.

Keep in mind that dental restorations like crowns and veneers cannot be whitened. You have to take care of your teeth.

And for them to not look too white and stand out from the rest, many people get teeth whitening procedures done.

Did Tom Cruise Have Teeth Surgery?

Tom Cruise’s teeth have undergone a variety of changes during the course of his career. As mentioned before, he had dental crowns at the time of The Outsiders .

Dental crowns usually last for 10-15 years, so he would have needed them replaced. Other than that, his wearing braces at the 2002 premiere of Minority Report is the most widely circulated evidence of him getting dental work done.

Tom Cruise 2002 braces

He had ceramic braces at the time since they blend in more with the natural teeth.

From his pictures, you can see that the brackets on his teeth are transparent. Although there’s something else to see if you closely look at his photos from that time: his gums. They appear even.

However, if you look at the photos of Tom Cruise’s teeth now, the gum tissue on his left central incisor is more than that on his right central incisor.

Tom Cruise teeth 2003

The size of the tooth has also changed. The right tooth is bigger than the left one.

Tom Cruises teeth in 2015

It is possible that the actor had a crown lengthening or gingivectomy procedure in later years.

Some people need these before getting dental crowns. Gingivectomy treatment involves the removal of gum tissue above the tooth so that more of its structure is exposed.

This provides a greater surface area to the crown for bonding and anchorage. It may be the reason why his gum line is not even anymore and why the size of his one tooth is now bigger than before.

Does Tom Cruise Have T eeth Veneers?

It’s more likely that Tom Cruise has dental crowns instead of veneers. That’s because, unlike crowns, veneers only cover the front surface of the teeth.

And considering how damaged his tooth was, Tom Cruise’s dentist might have also recommended him a crown to protect the underlying tooth (provided it’s still there).

Tom Cruises teeth in 2018

Tom Cruise’s veneers wouldn’t have been able to do that as effectively. Although if he did get veneers, Tom Cruise’s veneer teeth would have looked just as natural (not considering the misalignment).

Has Tom Cruise Ever Said Anything About His Teeth?

Tom Cruise remains elusive to this day. The actor hasn’t confirmed or denied anything about his teeth.

We only know that he had work done from his pictures and the fact that he very publicly got braces at the age of 40.

There are many rumours about the Minority Report star that he hasn’t ever said anything about.

Despite being in the spotlight for more than 40 years, there isn’t much that people know about him. There was a time when people thought that he had a rhinoplasty or nose job.

However, in an interview with Playboy Magazine, he made it clear that it wasn’t the case and “never would” be.

Did Tom Cruise Seek the Right Dental Procedures?

As mentioned before, Tom Cruise does have a million-dollar smile. His dentists would have tried their best to make what they could out of his situation.

It may not have been possible for him to undergo more invasive and extensive procedures because of the time constraints his career put on him. He has constantly been in the spotlight since the 80s.

That said, the actor’s midline could have been better if he had had an implant after he had lost his tooth.

The implants would have acted as a substitute for the natural tooth and not allowed the surrounding teeth to shift. Plus, dental implants Turkey would cost him a little.

With a crown placed on top of the titanium screw, Tom Cruise’s smile teeth would have looked even more glamorous since his midline would have been at the centre of his face.

Concluding Remarks

Tom Cruise’s teeth have been the subject of much debate and discussion by his fans. His teeth certainly deviate from the Hollywood norm. However, looking back at his photos, you can see that from a very young age, Tom Cruise’s teeth alignment was not normal.

Of course, that would have been a problem once he started appearing in big movies, so he got his teeth fixed through cosmetic restorations like crowns or veneers or both.

Still, Tom Cruise’s dental midline (the parting line between the two front teeth) is shifted to the left. This has been the case from the very beginning and remains so to this day.

His dentists would have tried their best to do what they could with his teeth in a short amount of time, and his smile does look great.

Treatment overview, who is tom cruise.

Tom Cruise is an American actor and producer who has become a cultural icon due to his charismatic persona and captivating performances on the big screen. Cruise has starred in some of the most famous films in cinema history, including:

  • “Top Gun”
  • “Mission: Impossible”
  • “Jerry Maguire”
  • “Rain Man”

One of the most notable features of Tom Cruise is his captivating smile, which has been a trademark of his on-screen presence.

BEFORE & AFTER

Before and after cosmetic dentistry

However, Tom Cruise’s most loyal fans know that before the actor had such a beautiful smile, he had major dental problems. So how did the famous actor solve his smile problems, and is this option available to ordinary people who have similar problems to Tom Cruise?

What Happened To Tom Cruise's Smile?

Tom Cruise’s smile was initially damaged due to an accident that left him with chipped teeth. It happened during the filming of his film “The Outsiders” in 1983. During a fight scene, Cruise was accidentally hit in the face, which resulted in his teeth being damaged.

The chipped teeth had a significant impact on Tom Cruise’s confidence and self-esteem, particularly as he was building his career in Hollywood. The actor, known for his perfectionism, was keen to restore his smile to its former glory. He consulted with a dental professional, who recommended dental veneers as a solution. The veneers helped to restore his smile, making it appear perfect and flawless.

What Was Wrong With Tom Cruise's Teeth In Adolescence?

dental veneers treatments

Tom Cruise’s smile has always been one of his most recognisable features, but during his adolescence, he struggled with dental issues that affected the appearance of his teeth. The actor had several problems, including misaligned teeth, crowding, and a small upper arch. To correct these issues, Tom Cruise underwent orthodontic treatment, which included the use of braces to straighten his teeth and align his bite. The treatment was successful, improving the alignment of his teeth and creating a more aesthetically pleasing smile.

However, one orthodontic treatment was not enough to solve all of Tom Cruise’s dental problems. He still had a slight upper arch, which affected the proportions of his teeth and made his smile appear narrow. To correct this, he underwent maxillary expansion, a procedure that involves widening the upper arch with a special tool. The process was successful, creating a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing smile.

Despite the challenges he faced in his teenage years, Tom Cruise was determined to achieve a perfect smile. His commitment to dental health and aesthetics has been a key factor in his success in Hollywood, where appearance and charisma are critical factors.

What Did Tom Cruise Do To Correct The Appearance Of His Teeth?

Tom Cruise opted for veneers to restore his damaged teeth, and the results were remarkable. His smile looked natural and aesthetically pleasing. The veneers helped him achieve a perfect smile, improve his appearance and boost his self-confidence.

Despite the initial damage to his teeth, Tom Cruise has continued to captivate audiences with his remarkable performances on the big screen. His charisma and talent have made him one of the most successful actors in Hollywood, with a net worth of over $600 million. With several blockbuster hits under his belt and a legion of fans worldwide, Tom Cruise continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment industry.

Does Tom Cruise Have Veneers?

dental veneers

Yes, Tom Cruise has veneers. The actor opted for veneers to fix chipped teeth that occurred during the filming of “The Outsiders” in 1983. Veneers are an overlay on the front of the teeth, which are used as a cosmetic treatment, to restore the aesthetic function of the teeth. Veneers can also improve the size, shape, and symmetry of teeth, resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing smile.

Tom Cruise’s veneers are designed to match the colour, shape, and size of his existing teeth, creating a natural and seamless appearance. The process of placing veneers involves grinding down the upper layer of the tooth enamel. After that, veneers are installed in the place where the tooth enamel has been ground down. The result is a durable and long-lasting solution that can significantly improve the appearance of the teeth.

Despite rumours to the contrary, Tom Cruise’s veneers do not detract from the authenticity of his smile. Many people are surprised to find out that he has veneers, as they look so natural and flawless.

Tom Cruise's Teeth Are His Hallmark — Facts about the Actor's Middle Tooth and Smile Makeover

Oyin Balogun

Iconic actor Tom Cruise is known for his dashing good looks, which earned him the reputation of a Hollywood sex symbol. However, his teeth have had to go through years of modification to match his almost perfect good looks.

Apart from starring in some of Hollywood's biggest blockbusters over the last three decades — including "Top Gun" and the "Mission Impossible" franchises — Tom Cruise is known for his dashing good looks and his nearly perfect smile.

However, fans cannot help but notice that beneath Cruise's 100-watt grin, there is a glaring imperfection — a slightly out of place tooth that has undergone modification jobs throughout his career.

TOM CRUISE'S TEETH BEFORE

As a newcomer in the movie world, the young Tom Cruise's teeth were badly discolored and very unaligned. By closely inspecting some of the actor's pictures, it can be seen that his teeth are not symmetrical with the center of his face.

Apart from Tom Cruise, fans have also grown to love several other celebrities with their less-than-perfect smiles.

Additionally, the veteran actor's dentition features a right front tooth that is slightly askew from others. Interestingly, the front tooth has earned some fame through the years and has been dubbed the "middle tooth" by the media.

In an industry that can be described at best as "vain," and overly conscious of physical appearance, Cruise has carried on confidently with his less-than-perfect smile — even flashing it for the cameras every now and then.

Popular Los Angeles dentist Dr. William Dorfman understood the special focus on looks in Hollywood and was famous in the 90s for helping actors get their teeth in line. While speaking on Cruise's teeth, Dorfman said:

"They're terrible. His two front teeth are different sizes. They looked so bad when he was on the cover of last November's GQ that I wrote him a letter saying he should come see me."

Well, it seems Cruise must have paid a visit to the famous dentist because his teeth have undergone some modification jobs throughout his career.

TOM CRUISE'S DENTAL TRANSFORMATION

During his early years as an actor, Cruise initially fixed his dental issues by undergoing teeth whitening and alignment procedures. The whitening helped the talented actor deal with his discolored teeth.

In 2002, after his split from his ex-wife Nicole Kidman, Cruise got braces to reconfigure his misaligned teeth. The braces were nearly invisible, and at the time, his publicist Pat Kingsley revealed the 57-year-old actor would be wearing the orthodontic device for a year.

By 2012, Cruise's teeth had undergone a complete transformation, and the actor showed off his improved dentition at the premiere of "Rock of Ages," and at a charity event in December that year.

Despite the improvements, eagle-eyed fans were still able to notice that aside from his famous "middle tooth," his left incisor looked bigger than his right one.

More recently, the actor's teeth appear to be nearly perfect, much to his fans' admiration. While Cruise has never explained what he did to his teeth, many dentists believe he must have received porcelain veneers in addition to getting braces.

Apart from Tom Cruise, fans have also grown to love several other celebrities with their less-than-perfect smiles. From Lindsay Lohan's gnarly grin to Johnny Depp's mysterious red tooth and Anna Paquin's gap-tooth, these stars pose a hefty challenge for every dentist.

However, like Tom Cruise, they have remained confident in their imperfection and have not let their unique dental features upstage their showbiz careers.

Tom Cruise Teeth Before and After: What Did The Actor Look Like Before?

A Hollywood icon and a beloved action hero, the sixty-one-year-old actor, Tom Cruise has been doing films for over forty years and seems to have still not lost his touch. The actor has consistently been a part of one of the highest-paid actors’ list, with his films managing to collect over $11.5 billion in gross earnings.

A respected actor, Cruise has to his name a long list of awards and accolades, including an Honorary Palme d’Or, two Saturns Awards, and three Golden Globes, along with several Oscar and BAFTA awards nominations. The actor started sometime around the start of the 1980s and continues to pull audiences to the theatres with movies like The Mummy and Top Gun: Maverick .

He is known to have quite the reputation for insisting on performing his stunts, especially in his fan-favorite Mission Impossible franchise, which we are sure fans must be familiar with. He kickstarted his career with lead roles in Risky Business, Top Gun, The Outsiders, Born on Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire, and others, all of which were hits.

He moved to dramatic roles in films, including the likes of A Few Good Men, The Firm, Interview with the Vampire, and Eyes Wide Shut , which were commercial hits and helped him establish his skills further in the industry. The Mission Impossible series came into being in 1996 and changed the career trajectory of the actor, firmly establishing himself as an action film hero.

The actor’s fame and popularity have not faltered over the years, though he may have a few flops here and there. One other thing people have continuously praised Cruies for, other than his courage in performing his stunts and for his performance in films, is his good looks.

Fans have witnessed the young man turn from the sexiest man alive in 1990, to a handsome man, who, despite his age, continues to look as fresh as ever. But as it turns out, this was not always the case with the actor, who looked ever so slightly different than he does now, and no, we are not talking about the visible smile lines and wrinkles that have gotten added to his features.

Tom Cruise Before & After

If you have been following the actor’s career, you must have noticed the difference between Tom’s face from when he was fresh in the business, doing small roles, to what he is now. Turns out the sweet smile the actor loves flashing to his fans did not always look the way it does, pretty and dazzling.

While his perfectly aligned teeth have added to his charm, making him look more ‘Hollywood A-lister’ worthy, it was, back in the day, misaligned and imperfect, much like many young boys at the time. While we are sure you would be able to dig up some images of his teeth then, there is not much proof left of it unfortunately.

He was only twenty when he entered the industry with his crooked teeth, which by the way, you can spot in the movie The Outsiders, which came out in the early 1980s, when the actor’s talent was still undiscovered. He had his crooked teeth fixed with the help of alignment procedures after which he seemed to have also gotten a teeth whitening procedure done, adding to his unnaturally bright white smile.

During the early 2000s, the actor proudly revealed his braces to photographers on the red carpets and fans, saying that it was finally time for him to fix his teeth. Before this, the actor was known to have used his teeth as a feature that could potentially add to the personalities of the different characters he played early on in his career.

The actor revealed that it was while he was playing hockey that he got injured and his teeth got damaged. While he has got them fixed however he could, there is a lot that is not natural about them. His ‘dental midline’ is shifted toward the left, and he has had a few embarrassing accidents because of his teeth procedures.

His smile and teeth have changed too many times over his career, but one thing that remains unchanged despite all of it is his charming smile, which many continue to admire.

Tom Cruise – Asymmetrical Smile

Tom s’ smile is a favorite among dentists. Toms’ smile has been brought up in numerous dental continuing education classes that I have attended. Midline Discrepancy is how they describe the problem.  If you look closely, you can see how he has an asymmetric smile.  Word is that Tom has a missing upper bicuspid, #12 (it would be on his left side).  This probably was done in an attempt to deal with a slight crowding problem.  Once the tooth was removed, all the other teeth shifted into the missing gap.

Generally it is better to extract the same tooth on the opposite side and then use orthodontics to align the teeth.  You wonder if  this was done because orthodontics was not an option financially.

From what I have heard, this is a “smile” problem that has plagued Tom Cruise though the years, not an easy fix. One question I still have, was it the bicuspid (#12) that was removed or the canine #11?

OK, enough dental geek talk, favorite Tom Cruise movie? Top Gun .  Favorite quotable line, “ I feel the need . . . need for speed!!!” A shout out to Tom Cruise for a remarkable career.

Tom Cruise has spent this year flying high, literally.

At CinemaCon in April, when Mission: Impossible 7 screened its first trailer for theater owners, Cruise sent along a video intro that he’d filmed while standing on top of a biplane flying over a canyon in South Africa. It ended with him launching into a barrel roll. When he arrived at the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick in San Diego in May, he flew there in a helicopter he piloted himself , emblazoned with his own name and the title of his film.

He’s also flying high on a metaphorical level. Cruise turned 60 on July 3, and he shows no signs of slowing down. Top Gun: Maverick has made over $1 billion since it came out in May , the first film of Cruise’s career to do so and just the second film to manage the feat since the pandemic began in 2020. (The first was Spider-Man: No Way Home .)

In the pandemic era, a lot of movies are making only the most cursory appearance in theaters before they hit streaming, if they make it to theaters at all. Not Tom Cruise movies. The idea of Top Gun: Maverick premiering on streaming instead of in theaters? “Never going to happen,” Cruise said at Cannes in May , even though the completed film languished for two years before seeing the light of day. When Paramount told Cruise that Mission: Impossible 7 would play in theaters for only 45 days instead of the three months Cruise was used to, Cruise hired a lawyer .

For his efforts, Cruise is being hailed as the savior of the cinematic experience.

“Can Tom Cruise save the old-fashioned blockbuster?” asked the Telegraph .

Empire magazine described Cruise’s fight as “the battle to save cinema,” with “the biggest movie star in the world” at the vanguard.

“Cruise is here to remind us that the industry will not die on his watch. Not if he can help it,” said the LA Times . “And honestly, who among us won’t be thrilled if Cruise triumphs in life as in the movies?”

In a white room, Cruise hangs upside down in midair, suspended by a harness, and types on a computer.

It seems clear that Cruise sincerely sees himself as the savior of the big screen, and all the jobs that depend on it. (Or at the very least, he sees himself as the savior of Tom Cruise movies appearing on the big screen.) During the pandemic, he told audiences at Cannes, he called up theater owners to say , “Please, I know what you’re going through. Just know we are making Mission: Impossible , and Top Gun is coming out.” In December 2020, leaked audio footage from the set of Mission: Impossible 7 showed Cruise upbraiding crew members who violated Covid social distancing policies.

“They’re back there in Hollywood making movies right now because of us,” Cruise can be heard to shout on the footage . “Because they believe in us and what we’re doing. I’m on the phone with every fucking studio at night, insurance companies, producers, and they’re looking at us and using us to make their movies. We are creating thousands of jobs, you motherfuckers.”

“That’s what I sleep with every night,” Cruise concluded: “the future of this fucking industry!”

By now we should know: Tom Cruise is the hero of a movie that never ends. It’s one where he always, always saves the day.

That wasn’t always the case. Cruise’s stock plummeted in the 2000s after Oprah’s couch and Brooke Shields’ antidepressants . Yet today, Cruise is once again considered a bankable and iconic star. He is no longer a publicity liability for a movie studio.

There’s only one thing that Cruise might not be able to save. That’s the nagging, persistent sense that if the movie were ever to stop, when the lights came up, there would be nothing left of Tom Cruise at all.

“Cruise’s own laugh,” concluded Alex Pappademas in the New Yorker this May, “is the best Tom Cruise impression you’ve ever heard.”

But who says the movie ever has to stop?

Tom Cruise saves chivalry

“I like treating a woman the way that she deserves to be treated.” Tom Cruise to Oprah Winfrey, 2005 .

Here’s an oddity in the latest spree of killer Tom Cruise publicity: For once, the press is really into the way he’s interacting with women.

Over the course of his Top Gun press tour, Tom Cruise has been handed one positive headline after another for his chivalrous habit of taking charge of all ladies present, from Kate Middleton to his co-stars. If there is a woman in the same space as he is, Cruise will escort her up and down stairs and through doorways, present her to the camera, and make sure she is taken care of. It makes for incredible press. In her coverage of Cannes, gossip maven Elaine Lui remarked on how carefully Cruise looked after Top Gun co-star Jennifer Connelly. “I’m told he was never not attentive,” Lui wrote , “always focused on making sure she was looked after, never not ready with a hand to guide her from one place to another, never missing an opportunity to talk about how spectacular she looked, seemingly enthralled by her so that the cameras would pick up on his eyeline and transfer their focus to her.”

This display of “chivalry,” Lui concluded, was “very Tom Cruise.”

Cruise faces a laughing Connelly and holds her hands intimately in his own as photographers look on.

Chivalry is part of the old-fashioned action-hero masculinity Tom Cruise has long represented: the hero with the square jaw and faultless manners, kind and attentive to everyone around him. It’s also been central to Tom Cruise’s personal mythology for a long time, in both good ways and bad.

On the good side, Cruise used to be in the press on a regular basis for rescuing regular people: saving a family from a burning sailboat; getting the victim of a hit-and-run to the hospital and then paying her medical bills. Every actor who’s ever worked with him seems to have a Tom Cruise story about him making them some impossibly thoughtful gesture or gift .

On the bad side, quoth Elaine Lui , “Remember how he used to ‘present’ Katie Holmes?”

Cruise kisses Holmes’s cheek as she smiles out at the cameras.

Cruise’s 2005 marriage to Katie Holmes was marked by its public displays of affection. Cruise was constantly presenting Holmes to the camera, cuddling up to her in public, proclaiming his love for her in ever more enthusiastic ways. Even before he jumped up and down on Oprah’s couch and sent his career into a precipitous downslide, he told Oprah that he covered a hotel room in rose petals for Holmes, and that he took her on a motorcycle ride on the beach.

“I’m a romantic, okay?” Cruise said at the time. “I like treating a woman the way that she deserves to be treated.”

Romantic or not, that marriage also represented a low point in Cruise’s professional life. In the wake of his couch moment with Oprah, Cruise’s popularity plummeted, his reputation took a hit, and he almost lost the Mission: Impossible franchise.

Then came the enormous and damaging wave of publicity in 2012, when Katie Holmes divorced Cruise. Stories rolled out by the day: that Holmes had planned the divorce for two years in order to make sure she would retain custody of the couple’s daughter, Suri; that she had to orchestrate the whole thing with burner phones and secret laptops and lawyers in multiple states ; that she had done it all — developed this whole two-year master plan — because that was how badly she wanted full custody of Suri . Specifically, the story went, Holmes wanted to save Suri from Scientology.

Cruise has since worked diligently to move past the so-called TomKat years. He’s been so effective that all his gentlemanly gestures on his current press tour tend to read as charming, not creepy. But there’s a clear and strong connection between Cruise’s love of chivalry then and his love of chivalry now. They are part and parcel of what appears to be a driving force behind Tom Cruise’s quest to be a hero, win the girl, and save the world: Scientology.

Tom Cruise saves mankind (from thetans)

“That’s what drives me: is that I know we have an opportunity to really help, for the first time, effectively change people’s lives. And I am dedicated to that. I am absolutely, uncompromisingly dedicated to that.” Tom Cruise, Scientology recruitment video, 2004 .

The controversial Church of Scientology, founded by the science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard in 1953, appeals to the sort of worldview Cruise embodies. The world is under attack from evil forces, Scientology teaches, and all that stops them is one good man who’s not going to let petty rules get in his way.

Scientology is also, despite the number of celebrities it boasts among its ranks, a publicity liability. It’s widely suspected of being a pyramid scheme at best and at worse alleged to be an abusive cult profiting from forced labor and human trafficking , according to lawsuits and reports from former members. Its central cosmology, which teaches that human beings are plagued by immortal alien souls called thetans brought to Earth by the galactic emperor Xenu billions of years ago, is ripe for mockery.

The reporting that exists on Cruise’s connection to the church is both lengthy and damning. In September 2012, Vanity Fair published an exposé by Maureen Orth on the way Cruise outsourced management of his romantic life to the church. Tony Ortega, the closest thing there is to a beat reporter on Scientology, has a dedicated Tom Cruise tab on his website. In 2013, celebrated New Yorker reporter Lawrence Wright expanded his existing Scientology reporting into the book Going Clear , which prominently delved into Cruise’s status in the church. In 2015, Going Clear was adapted into an Emmy-winning HBO documentary by the director Alex Gibney, again featuring plenty of Cruise stories. The story they told is dramatic, and it plays heavily on Cruise’s apparent understanding of himself as a savior figure. (The Church of Scientology has strongly denied all these accounts , describing them as lies from disgruntled former members and journalists with grudges.)

Cruise joined the Church of Scientology during his first marriage to Scientologist Mimi Rogers, after Top Gun had already made him a star. According to now-defected former church officials, allegedly he began to drift away from active practice during the ’90s and his marriage to Nicole Kidman, only to drift back as that marriage foundered in the late ’90s. The clincher came, those former Scientologists say in Going Clear , when Cruise said he wanted to tap Kidman’s phone , and the Church of Scientology obliged.

Cruise kisses Kidman’s cheek as she laughs and blushes.

Keeping Cruise happy apparently became a priority for the Church of Scientology. When Cruise needed a new love interest, the church reportedly recruited a young member for the job , gave her a makeover to Cruise’s specifications, and then broke up with her for him after he tired of her. When the woman told a friend what had happened to her, the church reportedly sentenced her to months of menial labor in punishment.

Around the same time that Cruise was making his grand return to the church, he fired his longtime Hollywood publicist, allegedly because she told him to stop talking about Scientology so much when he was on the publicity trail for The Last Samurai . He brought on his Scientologist sister to manage his image instead.

As Cruise was becoming more and more committed to the church, the tabloid industry was beginning to go rabid . By 2004, Us Weekly had gone from monthly trade magazine to weekly gossip rag, pitting itself against People magazine. In Touch Weekly, Life & Style Weekly, and OK! had all emerged. These magazines thrived on an endless diet of outrageous celebrity soundbites, and as Tom Cruise made the publicity rounds for The War of the Worlds , he kept offering them up, one after another.

“Some people, well, if they don’t like Scientology, well, then, fuck you,” he told Rolling Stone . “Really. Fuck you. Period.”

Citing Scientology’s distrust of psychiatry, Cruise criticized Brooke Shields for taking antidepressants to treat her postpartum depression, and then told Matt Lauer he was being “glib” when Lauer suggested he might have overstepped his bounds.

Cruise’s public behavior became more and more erratic. On the same War of the Worlds publicity tour, Cruise infamously jumped up and down on Oprah’s couch, enthusiastically declaring his love for Katie Holmes.

Holmes seemed to be getting caught up in the Scientology swirl herself. A W magazine profile of Holmes saw her conduct an interview with a “Scientology chaperone,” who prompted Holmes with phrases about how much she adored Cruise when she seemed to fumble for words.

The spree of outré quotes took their toll. In 2006, one report found that between the spring and summer of 2005, Cruise fell from 11th most-liked celebrity in the US to 197th .

Fox News predicted the end of Cruise’s career. “It will be all but impossible now for a new generation of film fans to see past his erratic public behavior, the Oprah couch shenanigans, the decrying of psychiatry and now the rejection of Catholicism for a religion invented by a science-fiction writer,” they opined .

Cruise, seeing the writing on the wall, veered away from talking about his religion during his movie publicity tours. But for the next 10 years, Scientology would continue to haunt his public image.

In 2008, a video leaked to the press that was reportedly a Scientology conversion effort, filmed in 2004 . It featured Cruise glassy-eyed and grinning in a black turtleneck, talking about all the ways Scientology has changed his life. “Being a Scientologist, when you drive past an accident, it’s not like anybody else,” he explains. “You know you have to do something about it.”

“Let me put it this way,” said Gawker, which broke the news of the video : “if Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah’s couch was an 8 on the scale of scary, this is a 10.”

In 2012, the Cruise-Holmes divorce cracked open the door of Tom Cruise Scientology stories. A host more came pouring out — and not just in the tabloids, but in legacy print magazines and prestige cable shows: Vanity Fair, the New Yorker, the Village Voice, HBO.

Headline: KATIE DUMPS TOM. And she wants Suri.

According to former Scientology officials, the Church has continued to manage Cruise’s life. Reportedly, it’s granted him the full benefits of its more unsavory enterprises, including the Church’s alleged use of slave labor .

Former Scientologist John Brousseau says the church has custom-built luxury vehicles and sound systems for Cruise and provides the staff who manage his many homes. Because this labor is provided by the Church, it’s done through Sea Org, the Scientologist association that’s been accused of human trafficking and forced labor . ( The Church has described these claims as “both scurrilous and ridiculous.”) According to Ortega , Sea Org members who worked on Cruise’s property “were paid only about $50 a week by the church, even though their hours could reach 100 a week.” Cruise has a net worth estimated at $600 million .

The picture painted of Cruise by former members of the church is not flattering. They tend to describe Cruise as a well-meaning man who, fundamentally, is not curious, and who is happy to have beautiful things handed to him without looking at their cost. Scientology is attractive to Cruise, in this account, because it makes his life easier while simultaneously flattering his ego with the belief that he is a hero.

But as damning as those stories are, they have largely faded out of public memory. In the 10 years since his divorce from Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise has been working hard to change the narrative.

A black-and-white-picture shows Tom Cruise, looking suave in sunglasses and a tuxedo, posing in front of a billboard for Top Gun: Maverick.

Can Tom Cruise save Tom Cruise?

“People can create their own lives. … I decided that I’m going to create, for myself, who I am, not what other people say I should be. I’m entitled to that.” Parade, 2006 .

Cruise is currently experiencing a late-career renaissance. Cannes Film Festival feted him in May , awarding him an honorary Palme d’Or and marking the occasion with a red carpet air show. The press loves him again. Top Gun: Maverick is a major success, and the next slew of Mission: Impossible films are bound to be as well.

He’s even rumored to have a new girlfriend. If, as the tabloids claim, Cruise actually is (or was) dating his Mission: Impossible co-star Hayley Atwell , she would be his first public girlfriend since his divorce from Holmes 10 years ago.

So did he do it? How did Tom Cruise go from America’s 197th favorite celebrity to a bankable superstar once again?

The answer seems to be deceptively simple: He kept working, and he stopped talking — about Scientology, and about almost everything else too.

Cruise’s PR nadir came during a period of oversharing. Since then, he’s become known for his intense desire for privacy. “When was the last time paparazzi captured Tom Cruise on the street or anywhere but a film set or premiere?” wondered the New York Post in May 2022 . He heavily restricts the questions journalists are allowed to ask him before he agrees to an interview, and both his religion and his family life tend to be off-limits.

Meanwhile, Cruise has kept making movies. Tropic Thunder in 2008 and Rock of Ages in 2012 together proved he had a sense of humor. Edge of Tomorrow in 2014, which saw Cruise ceding much of the spotlight to co-star Emily Blunt, proved he knew how to share the screen with another star. And the Mission: Impossible franchise has churned out hit after reliable hit. “I can attest that I am alarmed at the extent to which I suddenly love Tom Cruise,” admitted GQ entertainment editor Ashley Fetters in 2015 , as Cruise publicized Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation .

Cruise has also benefited from the current cultural shame surrounding the tabloid culture of the 2000s. As the world agrees that tabloid targets like Britney Spears were hard done by in the heady, tacky days of Y2K, everything from the era has been painted with the same shade of remorse. Vilifying Tom Cruise for jumping on Oprah’s couch can feel like the same toxic impulse that led to a decade of mocking Spears for having her mental breakdown in public, even though what Cruise has been accused of abetting within the Church of Scientology is far worse than anything Spears has ever been accused of.

In most ways, this strategy has been successful. The tabloid spectacle of Tom Cruise, Scientologist has been covered over by four decades of hard work from Tom Cruise, one of the last great movie stars .

But it’s not clear that Cruise can ever again reach the heights of public adoration he enjoyed in 2003. There’s a persistent strangeness around Tom Cruise’s image that has never quite resolved itself, a sort of falseness that he’s never been entirely able to weed out. It’s a falseness that’s rooted not in his Scientology but in his movie star core. From the beginning, the world has refused to believe Tom Cruise when he breaks out his giant movie star smile. It especially refuses to believe him when he laughs.

the tom cruise smile

In an early pan of 1983’s Risky Business , Cruise’s breakout film, New York magazine took aim at the young star’s mannerisms. “Cruise has a slight, undeveloped voice and a nervous smile, which he relies on whenever the script reveals one of its innumerable holes,” the review ran .

In HBO’s Going Clear , footage of Tom Cruise laughing in his Scientology recruitment video plays while one ex-Scientologist declares, “Scientologists are all full of shit.”

A 2004 Rolling Stone profile devoted paragraph after paragraph to the oddness of “the famous Tom Cruise laugh.”

“It comes on just fine, a regular laugh by any standards. You will be laughing too,” wrote Neil Strauss . “But then, when the humor subsides, you will stop laughing. At this point, however, Cruise’s laugh will just be crescendoing. And he will be making eye contact with you.”

It’s as though there’s a hollowness at the center of Cruise’s image, some sort of vacancy that he is forever restlessly seeking to fill. As though if he can only save enough people, enough industries, enough worlds — maybe then, at last, he can finally be whole. But can anyone, even Tom Cruise, do that much saving?

He's not always had the perfect smile! As Tom Cruise shows off his beaming grin at the Producers Guild Awards MailOnline takes a look back at his teeth transformation

Tom Cruise showed off his beaming smile and perfect pearly whites as he posed at the Producers Guild Awards in LA on Monday night.

But the A-list movie star, now 60, hasn't always had the best smile - sporting crooked teeth in his younger years before getting them fixed.

Images from his time on the 80s movie The Outsiders showed his far from straight gnashers before having a dental work done.

But over the years he has made sure to curate an impeccable grin to make him film star and red carpet ready.

Here MailOnline takes a look at the transformation of his teeth over the years...

Tom Cruise was just 20 and started his acting career in the early 1980s.

Back then like many young people his teeth were misaligned and were also discoloured.

According to Heightline, Tom initially fixed this issue with teeth whitening and alignment procedures.

His teeth are also not symmetrical with the centre of his face which is something you can still notice when you look at snaps of him now.

In addition, when he played Steve Randle in 1983's The Outsiders, a young Tom voluntarily removed the cap from a front tooth that had been chipped by a flying puck in a hockey match.

As The Outsiders called for Cruise to portray a streetwise brawler, the actor felt that revealing his teeth in their natural state would be fitting for the character.

In the film we see his real teeth, with one brown, dead tooth prominently on display in the middle of his mouth.

The cap came straight back over Cruise's teeth in his subsequent movies, and with blockbusters like Risky Business, Top Gun and Cocktail.

Then after his split from Nicole Kidman in 2001, the Hollywood veteran got braces to address an overbite and misalignment problems.

He proudly showed them off while walking the red carpet at the 2002 premiere of Minority Report. He had just turned 40 at the time.

To the surprise of many the actor arrived on the red carpet and interview circuit wearing his visible silver dental brace.

Cruise said at the time that it was to correct his overbite.

Cruise joked to David Letterman, 'I couldn't close my mouth properly for years, so they finally said, 'please, shut your mouth.''

The actor explained he'd taken his children to a dentist to have their teeth checked out, but to his surprise the dentist instead told Cruise that he could benefit from braces.

He wore the brace starting in January 2002 until the October of that year before beginning work on his film at the time - The Last Samurai.

It was a significant difference from 25 years ago when he appeared in The Outsiders, where he had the cap removed from the front of his teeth.

Tom's teeth then continued to improve, which was visible when he attended the Rock of Ages premiere in 2016 with a much more symmetrical style.

From swoon-worthy Top Gun star to THAT puffy face - and now a deep tan and flowing locks: A look at Tom Cruise's changing appearance

Tom Cruise debuted a bold new look at the 95th Annual Oscars Nominees Luncheon this week, marking his first red carpet appearance in eight months.

The Top Gun: Maverick star, 60, was there to support the 2022 blockbuster summer film that has received several Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.

The actor sported much longer hair and a deep tan as he dressed to impress in a navy blue suit with a matching waistcoat and white shirt.

As one of Hollywood's highest-paid actors, Tom's career in front of the camera has spanned over four decades.

After making his breakthrough with roles in Risky Business (1983) and Top Gun (1986), he became a leading actor in the nineties with roles in The Firm (199) and Jerry Maguire (1996).

As he enters the fifth decade of his career, MailOnline takes a glance back at Tom's changing look over the years.

1980S - THE EARLY YEARS

Tom was a fresh-faced 24-year-old when he appeared in one of his most famous films: Top Gun.

The actor won the lead role of Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell in the action flick, which became the highest-grossing domestic film of the year with $357million.

The star looked worlds away from his current self during this period, which also saw him appear in films like The Color Of Money (1986) and All The Right Moves (1983).

Tom spoke about his rise to fame during this time, saying it was strange being suddenly recognised in the street.

He told Interview magazine: 'I'm really very private, in my own world. Suddenly I was someone walking on the street and people were looking at me and I was thinking, "Jesus, is something hanging out of my nose?"

'It took time to get adjusted to it. It was such a perfect time to do Legend in England. Everyone is looking at you and somehow just moving your hand seems so much more exaggerated.

TURN OF THE MILLENIUM - MOVIE STAR

Tom was firmly established as one of the industry's biggest stars by this time and had a chiselled look to match.

The star looked like a male model when he attended the Screen Actors Guild Awards that year where he was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his role in Magnolia.

Tom also sported a longer hairstyle during this period, just months before the end of his marriage to actress Nicole Kidman.

This was also the year the Mission: Impossible franchise kicked off in earnest with the release of the first sequel which made over $500million at the box office.

MID-NOUGHTIES - CONTINUED SUCCESS

Tom had gone with a bolder look a few years later, sporting a much shorter crew cut that he would keep for several years.

This decade was one of the busiest for Tom when he apeared in a slew of successful films including The Last Samurai, Collateral, and War of the Worlds.

He was also gearing up for a return to the Mission: Impossible franchise, with the third instalment released two years later.

Tom would soon embark on one of his most highly publicised relationships when he began dating actress Katie Holmes in Apirl 2005.

Just a few months later in October, the couple announced they were expecting their first child, Suri, who was born in April 2006.

They married in November of that year, with Katie filing for divorce five and a half years later.

2021 - TOM'S PUFFY APPPEARANCE RAISES EYEBROWS

Tom raised eyebrows in October 2021 when he attended a baseball game in San Francisco with a noticeably puffier face.

The father-of-three sparked speculation he had fillers after sporting a fuller face during the LA  Dodgers match.

Dawn Attewell, Registered Aesthetics Nurse at therapyhouse.co.uk told FEMAIL the pictures were a result of 'excessive filler' and 'post-procedure swelling' but he now looks fresher thanks to a 'hair transplant' and 'skin tightening treatments'.

'In the infamous October 2021 picture, you can see that Tom looked swollen and puffy, which could be due to excessive filler, post-procedure swelling, or weight gain.'

'Often, surgical procedures such as a platysmal plasty, or neck lift, combined with a mid-facelift could create this type of swelling in these areas.

However, it wasn't long before Tom was back to his old self as he walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2022 with a slimmed down appearance.

PRESENT DAY

Tom returned to the spotlight last year with his first film in four years, To Gun: Maverick.

The fim made over $1billion at the box office - the higest grossing film of is career - and many critics considered it to be an improvement over the original.

Tom is once again sporting longer locks and has been busy in recent months putting the finishing touches on Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning parts one and two.

Part one is due for release in July while franchise fans will have to wait until June 2024 for part two.

Sharon Stone and Liam Neeson hit with huge backlash over Kevin Spacey praise

Kevin Spacey

In a controversial statement, Liam Neeson and Sharon Stone expressed support for Kevin Spacey after allegations of sexual abuse.

Last year, the House of Cards actor was acquitted of the 12 sexual offences alleged by four men  between 2001 and 2013.

One civil case was brought against him by Rent star Anthony Rapp who alleged Spacey had molested him when he was 14. Spacey won the case in October 2022.

A recent documentary from Channel 4 , Spacey Unmasked, reignited the speculation after airing new testimony from 10 further alleged victims over incidents in the late 70s.

The 64-year-old actor has largely been dropped from mainstream Hollywood and — despite being cleared in courts — has been unable to find work since.

Now Neeson and Stone have spoken out in support of Spacey and in doing so deeply angered fans who are ‘disappointed’ in their stance.

‘I can’t wait to see Kevin back at work. He is a genius. He is so elegant and fun, generous to a fault and knows more about our craft than most of us ever will,’ the Basic Instinct star said.

She added to the Telegraph: ‘It’s terrible that they are blaming him for not being able to come to terms with themselves for using him and negotiating with themselves because they didn’t get their secret agendas.’

Neeson seconded: ‘I was deeply saddened to learn of these accusations against him. Kevin is a good man and a man of character. He’s sensitive, articulate and non-judgmental, with a terrific sense of humour.

‘He is also one of our finest artists in the theatre and on camera. Personally speaking, our industry needs him and misses him greatly.’

The Taken star has been lambasted online for saying Spacey is a ‘good man’ as a tweet went viral quoting the interview.

Kevin Spacey arrives at court over sexual assault allegations

‘Liam Neeson has a particular set of skills, and they are all saying horrible s**t in interviews,’ wrote John Elrod on X.

‘Y’know I’m getting a bit f**king sick of Liam Neeson,’ scathed Desiree Middlebrook as Saydoh added: ‘The worst thing about the internet is finding out celebrities you liked are pieces of s**t.’

‘There are statements from men who claim to have been abused by Kevin, at a time when everyone knows what Hollywood was like,’ Javier Caravante wrote. ‘Coming out with a statement like that and calling him a “good man” is despicable.’

Some did point out he had been acquitted but that Neeson’s decision to back the blacklisted star was unwise.

Matt Jarbo wrote: ‘That is definitely a bold take. Legally speaking Kevin Spacey is innocent. Societally speaking he’s cooked.

‘However it does take one good performance from him that blows everybody away for him to come back. Because that’s just how Hollywood operates.’

Spacey addressed the accusations , which he has always strongly denied, in a rare interview with Dan Wootton earlier this month as the documentary aired.

The Usual Suspects star said: ‘I take full responsibility for my past behaviour and my actions, but I cannot and will not take responsibility or apologise to anyone who’s made up stuff about me or exaggerated stories about me.

‘I’ve never told someone that if they give me sexual favours, then I will help them out with their career, never. I’ve clearly hooked up with some men who thought they might get ahead in their careers by having a relationship with me.

‘But there was no conversation with me, it was all part of their plan, a plan that was always destined to fail, because I wasn’t in on the deal.’

Spacey went on to deny any accusations of illegal behaviour, adding: ‘Were there times when I would flirt with some of the people who were involved in those programmes who were in their 20s? Yes.

‘Did I ever hook up with another actor? Yes. Did I make a clumsy pass at someone who wasn’t interested as it turned out? Yes.’

He continued: ‘That may not have been the best decision and it is not one that I would do today, but it happened. It wasn’t illegal, and nor has it ever been alleged to have been illegal.’

The Telegraph article also saw support from F Murray Abraham, Sir Trevor Nunn, and Stephen Fry who called the documentary an ‘attack’.

Producer and filmmaker Katherine Haywood who made Spacey Unmasked insisted to Metro.co.uk she wanted to keep the documentary as balanced and fair as possible.

‘There are no monsters and there are no saints,’ she shared. ‘Everybody’s a mix of everything.’

Tom Cruise Snapped With His Children for First Time in Years

By Zoe Papadakis    |   Wednesday, 08 May 2024 12:05 PM EDT

Tom Cruise and the two children he shares with Nicole Kidman were all smiles for their first photo together in years.

The photo was taken in December at a hockey game and shared by former NFL player Derrick Brooks, according to Page Six . It recently resurfaced on social media.

"Good Evening, Wow, look who stopped by my office before our [Tampa Bay Lightning] game tonight! @tomcruise," Brooks, 51, wrote in the Instagram  caption. "I was a little star struck but played it cool and He said he was too!"

The photo shows Cruise standing with Brooks, his 29-year-old son, Connor, and his daughter, Bella, 31, with a dozen other people.

Bella was adopted by the former couple in 1992 amid fertility struggles while Connor joined the family three years later, Page Six noted.

Kidman, 56, and Cruise, 61, were married from 1990 to 2001. The "Mission Impossible" star went on to marry Katie Holmes in 2006 but they split in 2012. They share Suri, 18, who is estranged from her father.

An industry source recently told Page Six that Cruise had not seen Suri since 2012.

"Katie has safeguarded Suri and she's a devoted mom," the insider said. "This is a girl who is a private citizen. She hasn't lived her life in public."

Back in a 2006 interview, Cruise shared that his "whole life" he "always wanted to be a father."

"I always said to myself that my children would be able to depend on me and I would always be there for them and love them — that I'd never make a promise to my kids that I couldn't keep," he said.

"I'm not one of those people who believe you can spoil a child with too much love. You can never give a child too much love. There's just no way," he added.

Tom Cruise Celebrates 38 Years Since the Original Top Gun : 'It's Incredible to Look Back'

'Top Gun' producer Jerry Bruckheimer told PEOPLE in March that Tom Cruise has been pitched an idea for a third 'Top Gun' movie that "he liked"

Paramount/Kobal/Shutterstock

Tom Cruise is celebrating nearly four decades of taking to the skies.

On May 13, the actor-producer, 61, shared photos from the set of 1986's original Top Gun on Instagram in honor of the film's 38th anniversary.

The photos show behind-the-scenes pictures of him on set with the movie's director Tony Scott , who died in 2012 at 68, as well as a photo of him sitting with the film's cast in its air-hangar-turned-classroom set.

One throwback photo shows the actor smiling during a conversation with producer Jerry Bruckheimer . Another shows Cruise filming 2022's Top Gun: Maverick as he stares at the famous still of him and costar Val Kilmer shaking hands at the end of the original movie.

"It’s incredible to look back on the thirty-eight years of Top Gun ," he wrote in a caption. "To the fans who have been with us since the start, there wouldn’t be a Top Gun Day without you."

Cruise's original Top Gun movie was an immediate hit when it hit theaters May 16, 1986. The movie follows his character Pete "Maverick" Mitchell as he attends the U.S. Navy's Fighter Weapons School, better known as Top Gun. The movie costarred Anthony Edwards, Kelly McGillis and Kilmer, 64, as Maverick's chief rival and eventual ally Tom "Iceman" Kazansky."

Top Gun was the highest-grossing film at the domestic box office that year. It won one Academy Award , for Best Original Song, at the 59th Oscars in 1987, among four total nominations.

Decades later, Cruise regrouped with producer Bruckheimer, 80, to make a sequel, Top Gun: Maverick , which similarly captured audiences' imaginations as the highest-grossing movie of 2022 domestically and made $1.5 billion worldwide. The sequel sees Maverick return to Top Gun to train a new generation of pilots — including characters portrayed by Miles Teller and Glen Powell , among others — for new missions with the Navy.

Many have speculated about the franchise's future given the smash success of Maverick . The Hollywood Reporter reported in January that a third Top Gun movie was in development . In March, producer Bruckheimer told PEOPLE he is working on putting a new entry together.

" We pitched Tom a story he liked . But he's a very in-demand actor and he's got a lot of movies lined up, so we have to wait and see," he said.
