Join this exceptional Christian Cruise to Alaska with Gaither Homecoming and Bill & Gloria Gaither

A note from bill & gloria gaither.

Dear Friends,

It’s been such a pleasure for me and Gloria to introduce the Homecoming community to Alaska over the last 35 years. Experiencing its towering glaciers and quaint towns while enjoying the music we love makes this legendary location even better. This highly anticipated event is sure to feel like a family reunion...decades in the making.

We hope you’ll join us for this unprecedented time of fellowship in such a spectacular destination.

All your favorite Homecoming artists will be there. You’ll be hearing from them daily and every night, along with featured guests and vocalists from different genres, to blend together seamlessly in unforgettable evenings of musical bliss. You’ll have so much more tradition to appreciate as we praise God together as we always do. This week of laughter and soul-stirring music is not to be missed!

And that’s not the only unique aspect of this cruise. We’ll cruise the scenic splendor of Glacier Bay—where the mossy, spruce-hemlock rainforests are home to brown bears and moose. As always, we look forward to reuniting with you in the outstanding hospitality of our esteemed cruise line, Holland America.

Memories are waiting to be made! We hope to see you in the glory of Alaska.

Because He Lives,

Bill & Gloria Gaither

Pillars of Christian gospel music, Bill & Gloria Gaither, have shaped the genre for over 50 years. From school teachers to award-winning songwriters and producers, they’ve composed nearly 700 songs and created the influential "Homecoming" group. Their philosophy and brand center on the transformative power of gospel music and the authenticity of their deep faith. They are not just performers but also mentors, nurturing new talent in the industry. Their indelible mark continues to inspire and influence new generations.

A powerhouse in the gospel music scene, Angela Primm’s vibrant personality and musical prowess resonate with audiences worldwide. From her latest album, Anthems and Hymns for Him, to her debut film, The Death Of A Nation, she captivates hearts. Her passion for gospel music history is evident in her tribute to American gospel singer Mahalia Jackson and her DVD The Sound Of Black Gospel Music. Primm’s philanthropic efforts, including work with educational charities, embody her belief in faith and love as transformative forces.

The Hoppers, a family ensemble, have performed Southern gospel, pop, country, and rock music since 1957. With hits like Here I Am, Jerusalem, Yahweh, and Something's Happening, they’ve won numerous awards and performed at prestigious events, including President Ronald Reagan’s inauguration. The group, which includes Claude, Connie, Dean, Kim, Mike and Karlye Hopper, continues to inspire audiences with their faith-filled performances.

The Sound, a Dove Award-winning band, is known for their unique country-pop music. Comprising Levi, Jacob and Rob Mills, they've had four chart-topping songs since 2019 and five Dove nominations. Their latest album, God Is Real, won the Dove Award for Country Album of the Year. They aim to bring people to Jesus Christ through their creative and impactful music. Each member contributes uniquely to the band, with their roots in Detroit and the Great Smoky Mountains.

If you’re already thinking about what to bring, summer in Alaska is beautiful with sunshine and possible showers. Below is a checklist to help you pack for your exceptional travel experience. Remember that your luggage will be delivered to your cabin at an unspecified time on the day of departure, so it’s a good idea to pack a change of clothes, toiletries and any medications you need in a carry-on bag to bring with you.

Packing Checklist

  • Casual clothes including pants, jeans, shorts, T-shirts, collared shirts or blouses
  • Light sweater or jacket
  • Semi-formal clothes or dress clothes for 1-2 evenings, depending on the length of your cruise
  • Bathing suit and a cover-up or wrap
  • Light raincoat or compact umbrella
  • Comfortable walking shoes or sandals with rubber soles
  • Hat, sunglasses and sunscreen
  • Toiletries, in a sealed, clear bag inside your luggage
  • Minor First Aid care items such as Band-Aids, aspirin, hand sanitizer, etc.
  • Medications in their original containers
  • Hair care appliances (see information on Using Electronics)
  • Small bag or backpack for port days; large enough to carry your camera and other personal items
  • Passport with separate photocopy

Dining Dress Code

On a typical seven-day cruise, you’ll have two nights of dressing up for dinner or other special events. We suggest a semi-formal dress or skirt and blouse for women and a dark suit for men. The remaining dinners on the cruise are informal—blouse and pants for women; collared shirt with trousers for men. Remember that T-shirts, shorts or tank tops are not permitted in the dining room.

Packing Tips

Make certain your suitcase closes and fastens securely. Mark your luggage and carry-on bag with your name and address so you can distinguish them easily. We also recommend you put identification information—name, address and phone number—INSIDE your luggage in case the luggage tags are lost in transit. We also suggest keeping your essential toiletries and a one-day change of clothes in your carry-on. Do not pack your passport or travel documents in your luggage. It is suggested that you keep a color copy of the information page of your passport inside your luggage if your passport is lost.

For more information, please call one of our Reservation Coordinators at 800 247 1899 , Monday through Friday between 8:30am – 5:30pm, Pacific Time.

We know how nice it is to have the convenience of home when traveling on a cruise. Bringing your electronics and hair appliances can enhance your overall travel experience. Every cruise ship has plugs that accept U.S. and Continental European devices, and you do not need to bring plug adaptors. Here are some things to know about your electronics before you pack them:

Phones, MP3 Players, Laptops, Cameras & Video Cameras

Most small digital devices have chargers that will fit in the plugs on a cruise ship. One thing to be mindful of is the limited plugs in each cabin; you may want to bring a multi-plug extension cord.

Blow Dryers, Curling Irons & Straighteners

Each stateroom has a hair dryer for your personal convenience. If you prefer your hair appliances, you may want to consider purchasing or borrowing compact and travel-friendly appliances.

For more information, please call one of our Reservation Coordinators at 800 247 1899 , Monday through Friday between 8:30am-5:00pm, Pacific Time.

The scenic beauty of Alaska can be enjoyed from onboard the ship and to make the most of your cruise vacation, you can also get out into the local ports. Shore excursions offer something for everyone. Choose from city tours, culinary explorations, shopping outings, cultural activities and more.

Because shore excursions have limited capacity and fill up quickly, we recommend you book early for the best selection on your cruise. Once you’ve booked your Inspiration cruise, check out the customized cruise line excursion list based on your itinerary. Using your cruise booking number, you can easily book shore excursions online as early as 60 days before your trip and up to 3 days before departure, depending on the cruise line.

Visit the cruise line’s website to find information on specific excursions:

  • Celebrity Cruises
  • Holland America Line
  • Norwegian Cruise Line
  • Royal Caribbean International

You may also register for your Shore Excursions once onboard the ship. All shore excursion requests are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Waitlisted requests for sold-out shore excursions will be processed before requests made onboard.

For more information please call one of our Reservation Coordinators at 800 247 1899 , Monday through Friday between 8:30am-5:00pm, Pacific Time.

We want to help make your trip as smooth and as enjoyable as possible. We can book motorcoach transfers for you from the airport to your cruise departure port and on your return trip.

Hotel Stays

Remember that you always have the option of arriving earlier or staying later. For example, hotel reservations may be available if you want to arrive a few days early before boarding your cruise or stay a few days after the cruise returns.

As you plan for your upcoming Christian cruise with Inspiration, you may wonder about using money and credit cards during your travels. We’ve made the following recommendations to help you save money, avoid unnecessary fees and focus on an exceptional travel experience.

  • Consider leaving all unnecessary credit cards at home.
  • Once you determine which cards you’ll bring, remember to notify each credit card company of your intended travel dates and locations to ensure fraud alerts and holds are not placed on your accounts.
  • For each card, you’ll want to store the bank’s contact information in a separate, secure location in the unlikely event your wallet or purse is lost or stolen.

Almost all businesses in Victoria or Vancouver, Canada accept U.S. credit or debit cards. If you plan to use your credit cards, you’ll want to check with each credit card company to determine the international exchange fee for each card. Because the difference of a few percentage points could cost you more (depending on your purchases), we recommend using cards with lower international exchange fees. Using your credit card for large purchases gives you more protection for the items you buy on your trip. You can review your credit card statement to verify all of your purchases.

The Canadian Dollar (C$) is the official currency when your cruise stops in Canada, however U.S. dollars are widely accepted. When paying in U.S. dollars expect change in Canadian Dollars so bring small bills. If traveling with currency other than the U.S. dollar you may exchange money onboard the ship, although we always recommend checking the exchange rate before traveling to a foreign country.

Today’s technology allows you to stay connected while traveling—ensuring you get that memorable photo or message from your loved ones. On most ships, you should be able to use your cell phone or smartphone to do everything you’re used to doing at home. In addition, mobile phones provide convenient access for emergencies and confirming travel plans. Some basic guidelines and tips will help you save money, keep your phone working effectively and stay in touch.

Before you leave

Spending some time contacting your cell phone carrier before your trip will help ensure you can call friends and family back home and eliminate any surprises on your phone bill when you return. Let your phone carrier know your travel plans, including how you plan to use your phone on your cruise. You’ll want to make sure you understand all of the potential charges. Contact your carrier for specific information.

Check with your carrier for international dialing access

You will want to make sure international and cruise package dialing is active on your mobile phone plan so that you can use it in the Canadian ports and remember that international and maritime roaming rates will apply to calls placed onboard the ship (charges will appear on your phone bill). Because roaming rates can be high on cruises, checking with your carrier for specific cost details before you leave is a good idea.

Aboard your flight and cruise

Your cell phone’s battery life is the key to keeping you connected. Below are some tips for staying powered up on your trip:

  • Remember to set your phone to Airplane Mode when you board your flight. You can also do this aboard the cruise when sailing to avoid roaming charges unless you have the cruise ship package with your carrier. This suspends all calling and texting functions but still allows you to play games, use your camera and listen to music, etc.
  • On the cruise, you’ll want to charge your phone every night to ensure enough battery life for the next day.
  • Try to turn off your phone when you’re not using it. Leaving your phone on all day drains the battery, so it’s a good idea to turn it off while you’re on a shore excursion, eating or reading.

Smartphone tips

As one of the most popular communication devices today, smartphones have revolutionized how we connect and the world. We know leaving your smartphone behind for an hour, much less multiple days is difficult. The following tips will help you save your phone’s battery life and get the most out of your smartphone while on the cruise:

  • Before your cruise, you’ll want to disable any applications that give you regular updates, such as sports reports and weather updates.
  • Disable the Data Enabled or Data Roaming option on your phone and keep it off until you reach your destination. Turn off the function for “Automatic” checking of emails and change the email settings to “Manual” to reduce data roaming charges. During your trip, you can check for email messages when connected to a free, wireless Internet connection, such as in a hotel lobby or Internet cafe while in port.

In-room phones and phone cards

If you choose to not bring your mobile phone, you can stay in touch with others while on your cruise using the in-room phones. Please make sure you understand all of the charges associated with this before you place your call, as the rates can be expensive.

An Alaskan cruise vacation allows you to explore multiple locations without the hassle of checking in and out of hotels, packing and unpacking, and spending valuable time trying to find quality restaurants–all with excellent service dedicated to enhancing your exceptional travel experience.

Each cruise line makes rewarding the excellent service you’ll receive onboard easy. A gratuity of $16-$19 per day (depending on the cruise line and cabin category), per guest for dining and stateroom services will be automatically added daily to your shipboard account. The cruise line also will automatically add an 18% service charge to beverages purchased through your onboard account. Before the end of the cruise, the Cruise Director will address more specific questions regarding tipping procedures.

If you take a taxi to the pier, it’s common to simply round up to the next dollar when paying your tab. The cab drivers appreciate this, and it is considered part of their income. When you arrive at the ship on embarkation day, we suggest tipping the porters at the pier $1.25 per bag when they take your luggage to place it on the ship. When visiting restaurants off the ship and during shore excursions, a 15-20% tip for restaurant service workers is appreciated.

Gaither Alaska Cruise

Cool Cruiser

We are the rookiest of rookies in the cruise scene. We were given a "Gaither Alaska Cruise" by my wife's relatives, and being a former teacher, I like to get all the info I can prior to jumping in with both feet. I'd specially like to hear from anyone who has taken the Gaither Alaska Cruise, but welcome any help I can get!

Some questions, if you will:

1. How is the seating determined for the concerts? (two each night, I'm told)

2. Do shore excursions interfere with the concerts?

3. Are the bars and casino open during the cruise?

4. Are there any special devotional times offered?

5. Anything else a genuine Newby should know/avoid/look for?

We're po' folks, basically, and have found the shore excursions quite expensive. We'd sure like to maximize our experiences, so would also welcome any suggestions in that regard. We're scheduled for:

1. Juneau - 9.5 hours

2. Skagway - 11 hours

3. Ketchikan - 6 hours

4. Victoria, BC - 6PM-11PM

I know I'm asking a lot in one thread, and don't really mean to play the "poor folks" game, but at our age, it's important that we get the best of what's out there.

Thanks in advance...............

There's a thread on the Alaska board entitled "Can't afford excursions" or similar and there are lots of low-cost ideas for seeing great stuff in Alaska without breaking the bank. Here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1016318

Can't answer any of your Gaither questions.

3,000+ Club

We're po' folks, basically, and have found the shore excursions quite expensive.

Alcohol can be pricey and casinos aren't there to make the passengers rich. You can always wander around the small towns and take in the atmosphere without a Shorex.

Ship internet is *expensive* and you can do lots better in the ports. Ship anything is expensive.

Which ship will you be sailing? This board could help with ship specific questions, I guess.

The ports of call board are an excellent source for more information on Alaska's beautiful ports.

Having been to Skagway only twice...

First time, in 2007, we just walked around town and shopped and explored. We were interested in the train trip, but it was sold out for our time frame available.

Second time, just a few days ago, we took the White Pass and Yukon Railroad trip (which we did book through the ship). It was a bit pricier to do through the ship desk (but our trip included more than just the train ride). We learned from a fellow CC'er that she purchased her tix in town for a much better rate on the day of our stop. Also, one show in town offers cheaper tix with their show tix (Soapy Smith's Days of '98, I believe).

Juneau -- many suggest whale watching (pricey). The price of the Mt. Roberts Tram has gone up this season to $27.00 per person. DH and I had the TourSaver 2 for 1 coupon, but I'm not sure it would have been worth $54 for 2 people. If you are in good physical shape, you can access Mt. Roberts by trail (climbing yourself) and get a free ride down.

Ketchikan -- we've been four times now (usually exploring on foot), and we went with a cab company this time and saw areas we had never experienced before. Creek Street is an easy walk from the ship -- certainly not to be missed. The Heritage Totem Center is near enough to Creek Street/Married Man's Trail to do on foot. We also enjoyed a Duck Tour in Ketchikan in 2007 -- gave some interesting background information on local attractions.

Victoria -- been twice, but didn't really do anything in port either time.

I love the Gaithers Tours, but I have never been on a cruise with them. I envy you. The beauty of Alaska... and the inspiring music, too!

Thanx for the link! I had run about every search I knew of, but somehow missed that one.

Welcome to CC. I'm interested to hear about your Gaither cruise. Let us know what you find out about the concert schedule.

Thank you very much for sharing what you've experienced! We're Okies-not-so-far-from-Muskogee, and have never traveled much of anywhere except to weddings, funerals and graduations, so are looking forward to this time with the Gaithers..............

Called the phone link (Thanks jtl513!) and got SOME answers.

1. Seating is determined by color-coding on our conference badges. Each concert will seat a different color nearer the front, and they say each person is assured two "priority" seatings. Not having been aboard the Zaandam, I don't have a feel for the size of the Mondriaan Lounge, where the concerts are held, but I'm guessing the "priority" seating is better than my seats for the Tulsa Talons! (Arena football team - you had to be there to appreciate the comment);)

2. They're in the process of scheduling to concerts even now, and are trying to work around shore excursions.

3. Bars and the casino will be closed.

4. There will be morning devotionals, and possibly others will be scheduled.

5. In addition, the Gaithers are planning a concert 0ff-ship in Skagway, but no details are available yet. Kind of puts a kink in our plans for Skagway, but the Gaithers are worth it!

Now, if I can just get used to the idea of formal dinner wear..............:o

That sounds like a great cruise with the Gaither's.When are you cruising??Is the whole ship for the Gaithers??
Now, if I can just get used to the idea of formal dinner wear..............:o   -jwcusa-

Evening dress falls into two distinct categories: Formal or Smart Casual. Smart Casual can be defined as slacks and collared shirts for men and casual dresses, slacks and informal evening wear for women. T-shirts, swimsuits, tank tops and shorts are not allowed in the restaurants or public areas during the evening hours. On festive Formal evenings, ladies usually wear a suit, cocktail dress or gown and gentlemen wear a jacket and tie, dark suit or tuxedo. There are approximately two formal nights per week.

And if really don't feel like dressing up at least to that level on formal nights, you can use room service (free, but they do appreciate tips) or go to the Lido, where you will find much like company! :)

Leave Seattle on 14 August. Return Seattle 21 August.

I assume the whole ship is "for the Gaithers," as it was booked as a Gaither Alaska Cruise. I think the sailing route is the same as other cruises, but the ship is booked to folks who are interested in the Gaithers. Of course I guess anyone else could also book the cruise, but the emphasis here is on the gospel music.

We have a good number of friends who have taken this cruise in the past, and from their input, it looks to be a highlight of our retirement! Blessed, we are!

You're wife's family must really love the two of you.....Alaska and the Gaithers!!!!! Wow!

Welcome to CC and enjoy your cruise to Alaska!

I assume the whole ship is "for the Gaithers," as it was booked as a Gaither Alaska Cruise.
Don't worry about that. HAL's official policy is:   Evening dress falls into two distinct categories: Formal or Smart Casual.

Yep. It's time for the Sunday-go-to-meetin' attire, it is! ;)

Thanks for the reminders!

Actually, we were blessed with my wife's mother for the last seven years of her life, and the family decided the Gaither cruise would be a token of their appreciation. It's just a stereotype that mother-in-laws are a horror, because this lady was a real joy even to the end of her 98 years. She's missed, she is.

Welcome to CruiseCritic-your Gaither cruise sounds wonderful.

If you want to save money I would suggest for Skagway and Ketchikan you just wander around town. They are small but lovely-lots of things to see (people watching always fun) and since you will have a concert in Skagway you wouldn't want to take the White Pass train and miss the music.

For Juneau you might want to consider renting a car for the day. Rent-a-Wreck will pick you up at the dock and take you out to their office, set you up with a car (reasonably priced) give you a map and off you go. It's fun to ride to the end of the road, you really can't get lost. I have seen whales while riding along but I was there in Sept so I won't promise that but there are several interesting stops along the road-the rental place will suggest some for you. I love Mt. Roberts' tram but yes $27 is pretty pricey although you can go up as many times as you want and the views are fantastic. Also you can stop at Mendenhall Glacier and walk around for free.

As far as Victoria-I did book the tea at the hotel which was expensive. It included a bus tour of the town but since we arrived so late it was already dark and there was not much to see. Also being so late in the season Butchart Gardens were not open that late in the day. Just have to go back I guess.

Enjoy your research-all the planning is half the fun!

... the rates being charged by the one TA selling it are about triple the norm.

OUCH! " Triple ?" Shows what a rookie knows, huh?

But yeah, we had to buy it thru Inspiration Cruises . Considering our affection for the Gaithers, though, we figure we're getting our money's worth. We'll see, I guess.

Funny I wasn't able to find many reviews online for the Gaither Cruises. Perhaps I didn't look in the right places, but there is a dearth of readily available information. I hope we can provide some meaningful critique of this particular style of cruise, so that others won't go into such as unprepared as are we.

We really appreciate all the comments and guidance ya'll have provided hereabouts!

I've sent for some touristy stuff from those towns, and your suggestion might just be a good solution.

Since HAL won't be making money off the bars and the casino (and believe me, on "regular" cruises they make BIG bucks there), they have to charge alot more to compensate. Part of the 3 times goes to HAL, but part of it goes to the Gaithers and the people organizing the charter.

My drinkin' days are long gone and my grandkids have got all the $$ I might use in the casinos, so HAL wouldn't like me much on a regular cruise anyway. But I don't mind my $$ going to the Gaithers, as we've always found ways to go to their concerts at VERY high prices, considering..............

In fact, we've booked seats in Tulsa for the Gaither Tour there in November.

Thanks for the observation, though.

Just can't get enuf' of those gospel folks, I guess...............

We returned to the Rent-a-Wreck office in Juneau and they drove us back to the pier but if I remember correctly leaving the car at the pier was an option but it may have cost a bit more. You had to leave it at the pier if you wanted to keep the car past their office hours.

One thing that is neat in Juneau and free is the Shrine of St. Therese which has a lovely labyrinth to walk and some of the best scenery to boot. It was another place where I saw whales.

. . . but I'm guessing the "priority" seating is better than my seats for the Tulsa Talons! (Arena football team - you had to be there to appreciate the comment);)
I grew up in T-town but the Talons didn't exist way back then. The only game in town was the Golden Hurricane who ran a close second to the "professional" team down the turnpike...you know who I mean. :D

Have a great cruise. Alaska is spectacular!!

I got in trouble when we first moved here. I'm a Longhorn fan, and in some places in OkieHoma, that'll get you cut low. But I referred to "TU" and was promptly informed that "TU" was for Tulsa University. "UT" was for the University of Texas, and I'd best not be using THAT phrase too often in mixed company!

As for the "professional team" to which you refer............I WAS an avid DC fan - pre-JerryJones. Now, my favorite team is whichever is playing the Cowboys that week.............

But thanks for you good wishes on the upcoming cruise. I have really gained a lot of information on this board. And unlike some other boards, I haven't been flamed for being a rookie................
