ap tourism md

AP Tourism Authority CEO AP Tourism Development Corporation MD S Satyanarayana said the state government is taking steps to strengthen the tourism sector in the state which has abundant tourism potential.

Amaravati: AP Tourism Authority CEO AP Tourism Development Corporation MD S Satyanarayana said the state government is taking steps to strengthen the tourism sector in the state which has abundant tourism potential.

During a review meeting through videoconference with all 13 district tourism officers (DTO's) at Harita Berm Park here on Tuesday, the MD said the objective of the meeting was to summarise the status of tourism projects in the state.

He said last year, TDC launched Tourism Trade Registration and Facilitation Guidelines 2020 to facilitate the development of tourism trade and to enhance the quality of tourism services in the state.

The objective of introducing guidelines is to encourage tourism service standards, seamless growth of tourism and facilitate tourism investments in the state. Satyanarayana said the APTDC urged all the tour operators, hoteliers and restaurant chains to register with AP Tourism through trade registration and appointed district tourism officer as the nodal officer to create awareness and encourage tour operators, hoteliers and restaurant chains to get register in their respective Districts.

He said the registration is mandatory for the stakeholders related to tourism sector. It is a prerequisite for tourism service providers to be eligible for any Government sponsored initiatives, incentives, subsidies, schemes, etc. The registration process is completely online and very easy and intuitive. He said the guidelines are available in the tourism website ( www.aptourism.gov.in ) including registration details. Stakeholders providing tourism services in the State can avail this facility.

Tourism attracts MoUs worth ₹22K crore at GI Summit

ap tourism md

Visakhapatnam: Global investors proposing to promote tourism projects literally queued to sign memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with the AP government on the concluding day of the Global Investors Summit (GIS) in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.

By noon of the day, 117 entrepreneurs signed MoUs worth ₹22,096 crore, which exceeded the targeted ₹20,000 crore of investment. AP tourism minister R.K. Roja and APTDC’s chairman Varaprasad Reddy and MD Kanna Babu were present on the occasion.

“The response has been overwhelming. I am sure AP, particularly Visakhapatnam, will become the tourist hub of south India,” Roja said talking to this correspondent soon after signing of the MoUs. She asserted that all projects will be put on fast track and cleared through a single window system as per Tourism Policy 2020-2025.

Tourism MD Kanna Babu pointed out that tourism sector has signed the highest number of MoUs during the GIS. A variety of projects are expected to come up in sectors including wellness and beach resorts; hotels, adventure, water and sky sports; and racing courses, which will be spread all over the state.

Significant among the MoUs are one with Oberoi Group for development of luxury villa resorts at Bheemili near Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Gandikota, Horsley Hills and Pichukalanka.

Taj Group will build luxury resorts worth ₹700 crore in Visakhapatnam and a UK-based entrepreneur Pavan Reddy will construct a five-star hotel at Adoni with an investment of ₹100 crore.

An interesting project is FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile) grade 3 racing track, which will be developed by Hayak Racing promoted by 31-year-old Ranbir Sarkar of Hyderabad. Sarkar told Deccan Chronicle that he would be spending ₹700 crore on the project, which is likely on outskirts of Vizianagaram close to Bhogapuram International Airport.

Among the other important projects are: Tunnel Aquarium costing ₹100 crore signed by NRI T.S.N. Raju and his Turkish partner Safak Guzin with AP government; world class 18-hole Golf Course by River Bay Group; Sea Plane project by Turbo Aviation Ltd.; Ocean Swimming Pool and Club by Swarnamukhi promoted by O. Vinay Kumar Reddy; Sky Restaurant and Sky Diving by Aerophile of France in tie up with Darga Nagi Reddy; Caravan Tourism by a local travel operators consortium, and Eye of Vizag (mega wheel) project signed by US-based NRI Hari Damera and his Russian partner Vladimir Gnezdilova with government.

Incidentally, the Sky Tower project signed between Switzerland’s Gerard Slenders, his partner Hari Damera and state government has been pending since last six years.

Further, local entrepreneur Jasti Asha of Sun Group has signed an MoU to develop a tourism university.

Tourism takeaways:

- GIS may turn Vizag into tourist hub of south India

- Sky Tower, Giant Wheel, Racing Track projects signed

- Vizag may get tourism university

AP team jumps into action to lead the pack on stunning Baltimore bridge collapse

A Coast Guard cutter passes a cargo ship that is stuck under the part of the structure of the Francis Scott Key Bridge after the ship his the bridge Tuesday, March 26, 2024, in Baltimore, Md. AP PHOTO / STEVE HELBER

AP24086715499161

The call arrived a little after 3 a.m. That’s when Baltimore reporter Lea Skene learned from her editor that the Francis Scott Key Bridge had just crumpled into the river below.

With Deputy Director of Global News Coordination Tamer Fakahany writing the first alerts, Skene sprang into action and got a key fire department official on the phone. That allowed the AP to quickly give accurate details. Editors Christie Hampton, Shameka Dudley-Lowe and David Cohen filed the first alerts and urgents. And soon a team of AP reporters, photographers and video journalists joined in to deliver coverage that earned 2.2 million page views on the first day of the story and huge play in newspapers around the world.

Skene was AP’s first journalist on the scene at the foot of the bridge, getting there before roads became snarled and the site became even more difficult to reach. She supplied information from the scene throughout the day and into late the next afternoon, anchoring AP’s coverage.

Annapolis reporter Brian Witte scored early interviews with the governor and the chair of the National Transportation Safety Board on Wednesday, the day after the collapse, and he joined Skene in Baltimore for field reporting. He also found the brother of one of the construction workers who died and put him on the phone with reporter Will Weissert, who interviewed him in his native Spanish.

Video journalists Nathan Ellgren and Rick Gentilo provided coverage that was the most downloaded among customers globally for the week, particularly their early shots, after finding vantage points that weren’t sealed off but still showed the bridge’s remains.

Photographers Mark Schiefelbein and Matt Rourke delivered images of the crumpled bridge and of locals discussing how the collapse challenged Baltimore’s identity as a port city dating back to before the U.S. Declaration of Independence.

In the days that followed, AP’s Joshua Goodman and Richard Lardner quickly turned an investigative look at whether tugboats could have made a difference by accompanying the 95,000-ton cargo ship Dali for longer, before it drifted off course and crashed into the bridge. They showed how ports have their own individual rules for tugboats and how cost concerns cut short some tugboat escorts.

For delivering an encompassing and engrossing look at how the collapse of a bridge scarred a city’s psyche and uncovered potential trade-offs when it comes to safety, Skene, Witte, Schiefelbein, Rourke, Ellgren, Gentilo and the entire Baltimore bridge collapse team are this week’s Best of the Week — ¬First Winner.
