Fans of the Grand Tour, rejoice! The first details of their next special, which will premiere on Amazon Prime Video next month, have been revealed.

Amazon Studios has announced that Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May will return to screens with a new special episode entitled “Eurocrash.” The standalone feature will reportedly see the trio take three unlikely cars on a 1,400-mile journey across Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Slovenia.

In terms of cars, it would appear that Hammond has opted to pilot a rather yellow Chevrolet SSR — a retro-inspired, if short-lived, pickup made by Chevy between 2003 and 2006.

Clarkson appears to have gone for a left-field option of a Mitsuoka Le-Seyde, a limited-to-500 Japanese-made creation that, despite its retro-bodywork, is based on a Nissan Silvia S13.

The Grand Tour Returns To Our Screens Next Month: Here’s What We Know

Finally, James May is seen posing in front of what appears to be another oddity that time has forgotten: a Crosley Convertible from the 1940s. Crosley was an American manufacturer of small, borderline “micro” cars, while this example likely sports a 724-cc engine with just 26 hp.

We’re promised the usual hijinks from the three, featuring the appearance of a “famous racing driver” and the sampling of some “Soviet-style” Formula 1.

It’s still unclear whether Amazon will continue working with Clarkson after reports the streaming giant was considering cutting ties with the presenter following his controversial (and since retracted) remarks towards Meghan Markle. Variety had previously reported that Amazon and Clarkson would not long work together beyond the currently commissioned episodes of The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm, which includes four more GT specials and a third series of the critically acclaimed farming show.

Filming for another Grand Tour special in Africa seemingly wrapped last week, where Reddit users spotted the trio in Mauritania with a Jaguar F-Type and Maserati Gran Cabrio. That episode will presumably air in late 2023 or early 2024.

Meanwhile, you can catch their European road trip premiering on Friday, June 16th, on Prime Video.

Episode Guide

In this episode, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May investigate the new breed of European pick-up trucks hoping to take on the American and Japanese establishment. Clarkson has a Volkswagen Amarok, Hammond has a Ford Ranger while May is in the new Mercedes X-class.

Collectively they test their trucks with a series of challenges built around the many stages of life in the developing world, starting with rural subsistence and running through the toppling of the dictator, the descent into civil war, and the bit where some idiot blows up a helicopter. Along the way, there are chases and races and quite a lot of needless gunfire until the best pick-up is decided upon by everyone except James.

Also, in this show, Jeremy is at the Eboladrome to test the snorting, swollen, near-600 horsepower Jaguar XE Project 8.

I feel compared to the other two episodes which were some of the best, this one was little bit of a let down. The pick up truck section was unmemorable and the Project 8 review went completely against what Jeremy would normally say against such a car.

one of the worst episodes ever if I’m honest. The project 8 part was great though.

15 Things That Happened Behind The Scenes Of The Grand Tour

The Grand Tour is just like old Top Gear, but with a bigger budget, so of course there's some epic stuff going on behind the scenes.

The Grand Tour is easily one of the most popular car shows in the world. You can boil down the success of the show to the incredible chemistry between Jeremy Clarkson , James May, and Richard Hammond. It’s a joy for any petrolhead to see them on the screen working their magic.

In addition, to the chemistry there are all the brilliant cars and stunts. While the show has gone more towards the entertaining side of things than purely reviewing cars, it’s always a brilliant watch.

What most fans don’t know is that a lot goes into the production of the show behind the scenes. From make-up mishaps to hospital stays, the boys have seen it all. However, a lot of people ignore what goes on in the background to make the show possible. Only the most hardcore fans who eagerly await the next season might know of everything that goes on behind the scenes of the show. Here are 15 things that happened behind the scenes of The Grand Tour.

15 Fastest Celebrity Driver

The Grand Tour didn’t have a Top Gear like segment, where different celebrities would come have a go to set a lap time. However, it did have a different format where two celebrities would face off against each other. They didn’t compare the times with every celebrity but after all the seasons Kevin Pieterson was the fastest driver.

14 Lost Mike Skinner Fast

The first season of The Grand Tour was very experimental, and a lot of the things had to go. One of the segments to receive the most backlash was the American test driver, Mike Skinner. Fans often found that his comments about all non-American cars were out of taste, and the show promptly replaced him with a new driver.

13 Multi-Million Dollar Opening

While naturally, you could expect a show that features stunts and incredibly expensive vehicles to have a high production budget. However, the introduction scene of the very first episode costs an incredible $3.5 million. It involved a massive fleet of vehicles, as well as the largest civilian jet displays in the world.

12 Hammond Crashes Again

Richard Hammond has had his fair share of scrapes during his filming career, it’s fair to say he’s been in a few horrible accidents. However, none of them have been as horrifying or as well documented as the Rimac crashing. It’s a miracle that he managed to survive, and kudos to the team that manages to rescue him.

11 Legal Battles BBC

Due to the split from BBC and the Top Gear, there was a lot of trouble filming the new series. While a lot of the show were ideas that came from the three hosts, and producer Andrew Wilman, it was still the property of the BBC. A lot of the ideas from Top Gear never made it in the Grand Tour.

10 Clarkson’s 400th

Due to having the same hosts, Top Gear and The Grand Tour are inexplicably tied together. The show won’t ever be the same without the three, and that’s no criticism towards the current hosts. If the split hadn’t happened, the first episode of the Grand Tour would have been Clarkson’s 400 th episode of Top Gear, it’s a shame how things had to end.

9 Smell Of Mongolia

One of the few issues that the three presenters face when filming their specials is dire living conditions. It involves some epic journey and it’s arguable that Mongolia was the grandest of them all. However, according to Clarkson it was also one of the hardest. Despite the difficulty, Clarkson remarked that the smell of Mongolia was incredible!

8 May Kept The Buggy

Another story from the special, this one involving the lads driving their beach buggy’s across the Namib Desert. It showcases everything that makes their adventures so special, and the cars were exceptional. So exceptional that at the end of everything, James May actually decided to keep his buggy and it’s still a part of his garage.

7 Eboladrome

Top Gear had its testing track, and the Grand Tour would not be the same without its signature track. The show got its own signature track and it’s brilliant. It properly tests out the capability of each car that comes to the show. It’s called the Eboladrome and is designed to look like the virus.

6 Christmas Special

Every year, the boys would whip out a Christmas special for the fans to enjoy over the holidays. The Grand Tour is slightly different than Top Gear and it involves a moving tent that acts like a studio around the world. Each new location has a backdrop, and the Christmas special nearly had a backdrop without any snow!

5 Test Track Filming Takes A Day

While the adventures are great and everything, the segments featuring one of the lads reviewing a car on the track are truly informative. They discuss all the quirks, and everything that makes a car good or bad. While these segments might be short, filming them is hard work and often takes a full day.

4 May’s Lost Catchphrase

James May is one of the funniest TV show hosts of all time, and his comedy often involves the use of signature phrases. Over the years, James would repeat the phrase “Oh Cock” at every unfortunate occurrence. However, coming towards a more American viewing platform, some things had to change.

3 Blowing Up Clarkson’s House

Admittedly, it’s a lot of fun to make a little wager with your friends and see who comes out on top. The Grand Tour lads are no different, except they raise the stakes of the wager significantly. Clarkson made the bet, that his McLaren was a better car than the other two and ended up with his house blown up.

2 Celebrity Brain Crash

Another segment from the first season of the show, Celebrity Brain Crash was supposedly a session that would involve a celebrity coming over for an interview of sort. However, it was more a comedy stick and each celebrity would hilariously fail to reach the studio. Yet, it wore off pretty quickly and only lasted one season.

1 Hospital Stays

Filming the series isn’t an easy job, and the lads are starting to get older as well. However, the guys don’t get as much respect as they deserve for putting their bodies on the line. All three of them saw hospital stays in between filming that would cause delays. It’s undeniable that they’ll eventually have to stop.

Jeremy Clarkson Chases Treasured Škoda. The Grand Tour Will Take Place in Czechia, Slovakia and Poland

Avatar

Prague Morning

Jeremy Clarkson czechia

The Škoda 1100 OHC is one of the rarest and most famous cars in the automotive museum in Mladá Boleslav. Jeremy Clarkson took it out for a spin during the filming of the new special The Grand Tour in Central Europe.

The whole Central European adventure began in Gdańsk. The Polish part was the first to be filmed, and last week the crew was filming in Slovakia. Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May will then move to the Czech Republic.

The Amazon series , now entering its fifth season, has also been filmed in places as far away as Vietnam and Madagascar.

Slovak media captured the trio during filming in Bratislava, Žilina and Piešťany, the famous trio is driving around Slovakia in exotic cars – a yellow Chevrolet SSR pickup and a white Japanese convertible Mitsuoka Le-Seyde. James May arrived in Piešťany with a hotrod built on the chassis of the Ford Popular from 1959.

Clarkson drove a 1100 OHC Škoda at the airport in Piešťany. Only two of these cars were ever built. One is in Škoda’s collections and is a national technical monument. The second belongs to the British representation of Škoda. The spider in which Clarkson is racing is the one from Mladá Boleslav.

Treasure of the Škoda Museum

A total of four copies of this car were produced – two with a closed body and two with an open body. The roadsters have a laminate body, later created by an aluminum coupe.

Škoda developed the 1100 OHC racing special (type 968) in 1956 and 1957. The drive of the two-seater machine, which weighs only 550 kilos, is provided by a water-cooled in-line four-cylinder with a capacity of 1,089 cm³, fitted with two Weber carburetors.

The engine was originally based on the Škoda 440 model (Spartak), but was significantly redesigned. The unit has an output of 92 horsepower at 7,700 rpm, the maximum speed is around 200 km / h.

The engine is coupled to a five-speed transmission, mounted with the clutch and transmission in the block at the rear axle, the race car has rear brakes at the transmission and not in the wheels.

The 388-centimeter body resting on a three-dimensional tubular frame is the work of Jaroslav Kindle. Spider originally had folding lights, which then replaced the lamps in the fenders.

Fans of the series can find it streaming on Amazon Prime.

Richard Hammond: We’ve Finished Filming The Next Episode Of The Grand Tour

There hasn’t been much in terms of an update about the next episode of The Grand Tour , apart from an image that Jeremy Clarkson uploaded on social media of the set from Norway , sporting a yellow Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX and a Subaru Impreza WRX STI.

Richard Hammond has fortunately given us an update that they’ve finished shooting the next Grand Tour Episode and it seems like we won’t have to wait long before the special is aired on Amazon Prime.

grand tour yellow pickup

Hammond broke the news while speaking to RadioTimes.com for his new comedy science show called ‘Brain Reaction’. He said: “We’ve already filmed one – we’re not long back from that.

“We’re ready to go off and do another, and they are huge missions to go and do,” he continued. “Lockdown was a bit tricky for that, but I think the great thing is I’ve managed to keep busy with other stuff, and we’ll continue to do that.

“The joy for me 30 odd years into a broadcasting career, I’m able to do shows at all ends of the spectrum whether being massively costly, complicated, big ones or smaller, quicker, more light and nimble. So they’re all great fun to make.

“I’ve been lucky enough to sort of cherry pick and do the shows I really want to do. So you’ll never see me there doing something I’m not really engaged in. They’re all things I want to make.”

grand tour yellow pickup

While Hammond has been clever enough to not give more hints about the next episode, he has mentioned that they can now expect to film outside the UK since the pandemic lockdown restrictions have eased.

“My passport can come out of my desk drawer again,” he teased. “It’s been locked away like 25 years! Yes, things are easing up and TV and entertainment certainly has a role to play right now. I think anything you can escape into we’re all glad for.” He stated.

We are very excited about the upcoming Grand Tour Special and can’t wait to hear more about it. What makes us happier though is that the trio can soon get back to exploring farther lands.
