SEE WHY PEOPLE EXPLORE WITH US!

Did this mountain trail hike with my three teenagers and my husband. Even though it says “Little hike” it was a challenging 2 1/2 mile trail though beautiful Hawaiian flora. Our guide Ryan was perfect. He made the hike fun and I felt very at ease with him leading the group. It was an awesome experience of nature run by a business whose whole point is to preserve and protect the integrity of the area. Would recommend for families with older children who are looking to connect with the natural beauty of Hawaii!

Great Hike for beginners. Ryan was our guide and was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Plan on coming back for a more advance hike.

This was an awesome excursion for our family! We did the Wild Boar Tour which included rides through the forest and off-roading. Ryan was very informative, engaging, and made the trip super fun. Highly recommend for teens and young adults. One suggestion - don't wear good clothes. We had two shirts ruined from the dirt that stained. Otherwise, highly recommend!

Great hike through an area not open to the public. The mountains above Haleiwa were so beautiful and natural. Ryan , our guide, was great : very knowledgeable and engaging with all five of us. I think this hike would be very challenging for someone that isn't physically active and also for people that aren't confident with their ability to climb and hold onto ropes and tree limbs. But it was Fantastic

What an awesome experience we had four wheeling in the mountains around the North Shore. Our guide Keoki was exceptional, shared lots of information about the history and culture of the islands and ensured we had a safe experience. The scenery was spectacular and the mud and rain added a sense of adventure to our tour. Totally recommend!

North Shore EcoTours represents the best in Hawaiian nature, history, and cultural tours in Haleʻiwa.  We are Oʻahu’s premier Aloha ʻĀina eco-tour company.  As a Native Hawaiian and woman owned company , Aloha ʻĀina is at the heart of everything we do.  Aloha ʻĀina is a cultural value that expresses deep love for and responsible stewardship of nature. We operate on thousands of acres of private conservation land in Haleʻiwa, which means that you get a truly immersive nature experience!  Our expert, local guides take you off the beaten path and show you a side of Hawaiʻi that many rarely get to see.  Enjoy hiking and off-roading activities, breathtaking views, and lush tropical forests without noisy Honolulu crowds.

Sorting, ranking, and search results

Cool Hawaii wants to make your searches as relevant as possible. That's why we offer many ways to help you find the right experiences for you.

On some pages, you can select how to sort the results we display and also use filter options to see only those search results that meet your chosen preferences. You'll see explanations of what those sort options mean when you select them.

If you see a Badge of Excellence label, the award is based on average review ratings, share of bookings with a review, and number of bookings through Cool Hawaii over a 12-month period.

The importance of any one factor over any other in a sort order varies, and the balance is constantly being reviewed and adjusted. We're always updating our systems and testing new ways to refine and improve your results to make them as relevant as possible to meet your needs.

Compliance status

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation.

  • Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website. These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
  • Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over 7 different coloring options.
  • Animations – epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

On this trip, you’ll be transported to see a rural side of Oahu where you’ll learn about the unique culture and history and experience some of the most sacred places on the island. Bring your ohana (family) with you on this wonderful family-friendly island tour. Children or Keiki are welcome to explore this paradise with you and infants three and under are free when they ride as a lap child.

Join us on an epic adventure outside Waikiki with breathtaking views, smiles, full of Aloha, local gift shops, meet the majestic Honu (Sea Turtles), jump in the waters on the North Shore and enjoy the true nature Oahu has to offer.

  • Chevron down Itinerary

Waikiki Pickup (7:20 am – 8:00 am)

Our shuttle will arrive at 7:20am for pick up in Waikiki, with a local guide to help you prepare for a day of exploring the island of Oahu. Pick up times vary by hotel and will be automatically assigned when you input your information into our online booking platform.

Diamond Head Lookout

The first lookout we visit is an elevated view perched on the eastern side of Waikiki’s famous Diamond Head Volcano, This lookout grants us a great opportunity for pictures of the south eastern coastline of Oahu, with notable sights as far as Hanauma bay and Maui on a clear day. The location is more formally known as Amelia Earhart Lookout, known for where bystanders gathered to watch Earhart make her first solo aviation journey from Hawaii to North America.

Halona Blowhole

Molten lava tubes from volcanic eruptions that occurred from Oahu’s Koko Head crater formed the natural occurrence known as the Halona Blowhole. This lava tube extends into the ocean with a very narrow opening at the top, and when the surf is just right, water pressure builds up within the lava tube and erupts through the narrow opening creating a special Hawaiian Geyser for your viewing pleasure.

Makapuu Point

Witness Waimanalo’s dramatic sea cliffs as we turn into Oahu’s windward side as we begin our journey to the North Shore of Oahu. Look off into the azure blue waters of the bay and you will see Oahu’s famous Manana Island also known as Rabbit island due to its Rabbit like shape.

Hawaiian Coffee and Macadamia Nut Tastings

After a beautiful drive along Oahu’s eastern coastline, our next stop is a local shop that finds itself tucked away under aged Banyan Trees with macadamia nut and delicious Kona coffee tastings, along with very tempting Hawaiian chocolates amongst other treats.

Chinaman’s Hat and Kualoa Valley Mountain Range

Chinaman’s Hat, also known as Mokolii, is nestled right next to the Kualoa Valley Mountain range. This location is known for its dramatic landscape filmed in a number of Hollywood movies; most notably and fan favorite Jurassic Park. The island has earned the nickname Chinaman’s Hat from its resemblance to the straw hats that the Chinese immigrants wore when working Oahu’s sugar plantations during the early 1900’s.

North Shore Shrimp at Fumi’s Kahuku Shrimp

Sit down on the North Shore and have a delicious shrimp plate at Fumi’s Kahuku Shrimp! They have six different shrimp plates to eat! The most popular is the mouth-watering Spicy Garlic Shrimp and the Classic Butter Garlic Shrimp. Fumi’s also has Chicken Katsu if Spicy Shrimp isn’t your favorite! Veggie Noodles are available as the vegetarian option. So there will be something for everyone to eat! All Lunch Plates come with a side of rice and a slice of Pineapple. Bathrooms and Handwashing are accommodated as well. Please Bring Cash as this is the only “Cash Only” stop on the tour. We will remind you on the tour but try not to forget!

Tropical Fruit Stands

After lunch we make a stop at North Shore tropical fruit stands, which offers ice cold coconuts to drink from, fresh mangos, and other tropical treats.

North Shore Sunset Beach

A change of pace from the crowded beaches of Waikiki, The famous Sunset Beach on the North Shore offers tranquility and is the epitome of a beautiful Hawaiian Beach. However don’t let the summer months fool you, during the winter months, swells of 30 to 40 feet can be seen from the safe confines of shore.

Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles and Snorkeling at Turtle beach

Honu is the Hawaiian name for our beloved Green Sea Turtles. Our Honu are very Hawaiian in that they are native animals and love to lay on the sand and bask under the warm sun. We take you to Turtle Beach where we spend 60 to 90 minutes looking around for Sea Turtles and enjoying the golden sand! A certified Lifeguard will be on duty. Our Lifeguards are trained and will make sure you are safe! We will also provide snorkeling gear so guests can go for a swim and hopefully snorkel alongside a Green Sea Turtle as well. Snorkel Gear Rental is included in the price of the tour. Please alert your guests to bring sunscreen and a towel. (Snorkels are not necessary to see turtles as they can be visible from the beach.) Changing Rooms and Showers are also at the beach.

Lastly it is important to know that while we can swim with the turtles and appreciate them from a distance, we can not touch, pet, feed, tease, or harass them and we must try to keep 10 feet away from them so they feel comfortable. We want our Honu to keep coming to their turtle sanctuary, so it is very important to show respect and Aloha when we go into their habitat!

Dole Pineapple Plantation

A historic pineapple plantation home to pineapple magnets, pineapple t-shirts, pineapple keychains and most importantly pineapple ice cream aka Dole Whip!! A great way to end the day and get some pineapple themed souvenirs for your friends and family back home.

Drive-by to Kahala, Sandy Beach, Waimanalo, View of Koolau Mountains and North Shore Beaches.

Waikiki Return (Approximately 4:00pm to 4:30pm  – depending on the traffic.)

NIGHT DIVES

Submerging into the ocean is akin to stepping into an alternate universe, a realm of the Earth that is beautifully alien and tantalizingly mysterious. This extraordinary sensation is exponentially intensified during night dives! When the sun sets, the ocean’s nocturnal creatures emerge in all their glory, presenting a spectacle unseen during the daylight hours. Species that shy away from the sun’s rays come to life, creating a remarkable and vibrant underwater nightlife.

Take a plunge into the unique world that awaits beneath the ocean’s surface after dark. It’s not just an experience—it’s an exploration of a seldom-seen side of marine life. A nighttime dive is truly a hard-to-believe journey that you shouldn’t miss out on.

Don’t take our word for it—here’s what some of our clients had to say:

“Never imagined that the ocean could be more exciting at night! The bioluminescence and the night-active creatures made it an unforgettable experience.” – Jane D.

“The night dive was the highlight of our trip to Hawaii. Seeing the underwater world come alive after dark was something really special. Highly recommended!” – Thomas K.

“I was initially apprehensive about the night dive but it turned out to be an absolute blast. The underwater visibility was great and the plethora of marine life was truly astonishing. Would do it again in a heartbeat!” – Lisa M.

We offer a range of unique experiences which are dependent on the time of day. Choose below to learn more about our many Maui tours.

We at Haleakala Bike Company/Bike Maui/Haleakala EcoTours are devasted by the recent Maui fires and the loss of businesses, homes, and lives.  Our own Maui Adventure Cruises was lost in the fire, but that doesn’t compare to the livelihoods that have been destroyed as a result.

MAUI IS OPEN

More livelihoods are at stake as tourism continues to be wrongly discouraged to the Island.  We love, support, and respect our West Maui ohana, and do discourage for the time being visiting the devastated area.  However, Kihei, Wailea, Upcountry, and Central Maui are still open.  Please support those families by visiting Maui, respecting the situation, but still supporting the locals and the jobs of those in the unaffected areas.   Lahaina is closed, but the rest Maui is Open and needs your help/business.  Lahaina Strong, Maui Strong.  Mahalo!

Catching the tail end of humpback whale watching season in Hawaii

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - You still have time to catch a glimpse of humpback whales in Hawaii before they head back to Alaska.

Hawaii News Now ventured out to Oahu’s North Shore in search of the majestic creatures with Deep Blue Eco Tours.

Whale watching season in Hawaii runs from November through May, with its peak between January and March. At least an estimated 10,000 humpback whales migrate 3,000 miles from Alaska to the warm, shallow waters of the Hawaiian Islands to mate and give birth.

Within minutes of leaving the dock at Haleiwa, our group spot a mother and baby humpback whale.

Our captain tells us it’s rare to see them so close to shore so it was a pleasant surprise.

Experts say this season has been especially active — with tours spotting whales about 80 pecent of the time — an opportunity to educate the public about these gentle giants.

”Our mission is to connect people with the ocean and the marine life around it because once they have the connection they have the motivation to take care of it,” said marine biologist Calvin Morse.

Morse estimates the calf we see is about a month old. Over the course of an hour, we see the pair breach over and over, junior mimicking mom’s movements.

Whale watching tours give the public a chance to watch the playful antics of calves with their mothers up close, crucial for teaching communication and the art of breaching.

We don’t see other whales nearby, but Morse tells us whales often travel in groups called pods, which can range from a couple whales to as many as 30.

Each pod has its own dialect — a variety of clicks, whistles, and pulsed calls to communicate and socialize with each other.

We are invited to listen to whale singing on a hydrophone system.

Whales also use their tails and fins to make loud slapping noises on the water’s surface to communicate nonverbally, each with its own identifying marking on its tail.

Males in the same breeding ground sing a nearly identical tune, a song that changes each season and a tool used in the search for a mate.

The search is so important, they don’t even eat while in Hawaii. Whales store fat during the summer and live off that blubber during the winter.

These were just a few of the lessons we learned on our brief tour.

“Just to have a new connection with the ocean gives people the motivation to protect it,” Morse said.

A connection that anyone can nurture each winter in Hawaii.

Deep Blue Eco Tours also engages in educational initiatives for children and community service, including beach cleanups. The company specializes in shark diving and whale watching for groups of up to six.
