General information about ATP

ATP is a tennis association that organises all ATP tournaments. ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) is often called the ATP World Ranking. Why? Because the ATP ranks the performance of male tennis players. At the end of the season the best eight tennis players of that season compete in the ATP World Tour Finals. The ATP calendar is usually filled with major tennis tournaments from January to November.

When you visit an ATP tournament, you will only find male tennis players. The female tennis players can be seen at WTA, also called the Women’s Tennis Association.

Grand Slam schedule 2023

We kick off the ATP tour calendar 2023 with the Grand Slam tennis schedule. Below you will find the dates of the 4 big and world famous tennis Grand Slam tournaments. The Grand Slam tournaments are the competitions that provide the highest amount of points for the world ranking; the winner of a Grand Slam tournament earns 2000 points! Make space in your calendar, because these tournaments are not to be missed!

Australian Open

Since 1986, the Australian Open has been the premier Grand Slam tournament of the year, played annually at Melbourne Park (Australia). Every year 780,000 spectators come to watch this phenomenal tennis spectacle. In January it is high summer in Melbourne, so it is a good time to book a nice get away and watch some world-class tennis!

Roland-Garros

The Roland-Garros tennis championships are held at Stade Roland-Garros (France). The tennis complex is located near the Porte d’Auteuil in Paris. When visiting Roland-Garros, you may want to add a white panama hat to your packing list. What strawberries and cream are to Wimbledon, white panama hats are to Roland-Garros. Each year, 2,000 of them are sold for this occasion. No worries: you can buy them there too!

The Championships, Wimbledon

Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament and the biggest grass tennis tournament in the world. The Championships, Wimbledon takes place around the end of June/beginning of July in the tennis Grand Slam schedule. From 1924 onwards, you had to send a request by letter to the organisation to obtain tickets as a spectator and be able to attend the matches on Centre Court. However, since 2020, it has been possible to buy tickets online for this event. Wimbledon is a bucket list item for many tennis fans.

The US Open is the last on the tennis Grand Slam schedule and is held in New York. The main matches are played in Arthur Ashe Stadium, in front of 23,771 spectators per session. Until 1977, the tournament was held in Forest Hills where it was played on grass courts that were replaced by clay in the 1970s. At the moment it is played on hardcourt.

ATP Masters calendar 2023

The ATP Masters 1000 tournaments are, after the Grand Slams, considered the most prestigious tournaments. In total there are 9 ATP Masters 1000 tournaments in a year, in which the winners earn 1000 points. Below you can find the ATP schedule of the ATP Masters 1000 .

2023 UTS Grand Final Draw With Rublev, Rune, Ruud & more

atp tour london 2023

by Nurein Ahmed

27/11/2023 22:20

The Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) will host its inaugural Grand Final in London from December 15 to 17 and the draw for the event has been released.

For context, the last leg of the UTS Tour before the Grand Final was due to take place in Seoul at the start of December, but it has been postponed to 2024 due to logistical issues as stated on the tournament's website. Therefore, the organizers have filled up the last three spots for London.

The beneficiaries include Alexander Bublik , Benoit Paire , and Diego Schwartzman . The Grand Final will commence in a round-robin format, in groups of two, each containing four players. The top two players from each group advance to the semifinal.

Group A features the powerful Andrey Rublev ( winner of UTS Frankfurt ), Casper Ruud (a wild card entrant), Diego Schwartzman, and Benoit Paire. Group B is headlined by the energetic Holger Rune , British left-hander Jack Daper, the maverick Alexnder Bublik, and the showman Gael Monfils .

The three-day spectacle will begin on Friday, December 15, with two sessions, each featuring three matches. Some of the most exciting matches on Day 1, will include Rublev facing former Top 10 player Ruud , while two of the ultimate show ponies will lock horns when Monfils confronts Bublik.

Monfils and Bublik have previously met in UTS LA, where the Frenchman destroyed the Kazakh 3-0. Paire and Schwartzman are the two undercards in the group and will have the honor of opening play at the Grand Final. Each player will contest at least two group-stage matches.

British fans in London will be in full voice for one of their own when Draper, who recently returned to the world's Top 100, plays Rune, in a matchup to illuminate this tournament on Friday. Both players have entered this event as wild cards .

The final big tennis event of 2023 is taking place in London this week – here is all you need to know

UTS Grand Final is coming to London

  • Kevin Palmer
  • December 13, 2023

The Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) Grand Final is coming to London this week and it promises to serve up a thrilling conclusion to the tennis year.

It may seem like tennis is in hibernation until the Australian Open kicks-starts 2024 in exhilarating fashion next month.

This new and brash format of tennis has been conceived by respected coach Patrick Mouratoglou, who wants to spread the game to a younger audience.

Yet the UTS Finals are about to offer fans in London a festive cherry to top off what has been a memorable tennis year.

WHAT IS UTS?

  • Each match consists of four quarters of 8 minutes + the time of a hypothetical Sudden Death.
  • The timer stops during the 3-minute changeover at the end of each quarter.
  • The first player to win 3 QTS wins the match. If both players are tied at 2 QTs apiece, the 5th QT is played in a ‘Sudden Death’ format.
  • The ‘Sudden Death’ is a dramatic cliffhanger where the first player to win two consecutive points wins the match. Every point from the second point onwards is a match point during the Sudden Death.
  • There is no warm-up: Players enter the court and the match starts straight away.
  • During the quarter, Players serve two points each: player A serves for two points, then player B serves for two points, then player A serves for two points again.
  • As a major change designed to reduce downtime and create more rallies, UTS players are allowed one-serve only per point: missing the serve results in losing the point.
  • To make the matchups even more exciting, bonus cards are in play. Each player can decide to use this bonus card once per quarter, during the regular time only. The “Next point counts x3” effect applies only to the player who uses the card. And only for the very next point.

WHO IS TAKING PART?

Denmark’s Holger Rune is a star attraction at the UTS Grand Final in London after he was given a wildcard for the event.

Great Britain’s Jack Draper has also been given a wildcard for the shoot-out in front of his home fans and they will be joined by Russia’s Andrey Rublev, France’s Gael Monfils and Norway’s Casper Ruud and the unpredictable Alexander Bublik from Kazakhstan. France’s always entertaining Benoit Paire and Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman are also in the field.

WHAT ABOUT THE PRIZE MONEY?

There is a $111,000 purse per match for each match and total prize money of $1,665,000.

For each match, the winner gets 70% of the money defeated players get 30%.

In the final on Sunday, there is a winner takes all $111,000 up for grabs.

There is also a bonus scheme in place, with Monfils playing for big money in London this week.

As Monfils has played in 4 UTS events this year, he will get an extra $500,000 if he wins all five matches in London this week, so his total winnings could be $922,000

Rublev is playing in his second UTS event of 2023, so he will get $250,000 if he wins all his matches.

As Draper and Rune are playing in their first UTS events of the year, they will get a $125,000 bonus for winning all five matches.

What they say.

Jack Draper: “The way all of them play is really exciting tennis so that mixed with my game style should make for some really good matches.

“It’s going to be really nice to go up against some really good players and hopefully there’s going to be a good crowd there and we can excite a few people.

“Tennis is very structured in the way it does things and UTS seems very different to that. I’ve watched a lot of videos and it always seems like it’s a lot of fun, plus the players really seem like they’re having a good time. There also seems to be a different crowd at UTS as well, making a lot of noise. It’s not a team event but it seems to have a similar atmosphere.

“Also it’s in London. It’s right on my doorstep. The chance to play an event in your home country is always amazing, considering that we’re always away.”

Patrick Mouratoglou: “Tennis fans are old and getting older and the problem is not the age, but it is the same fan base since the 1970s and 80s.

“It is the same fan base since the 1970s and 1980s. It’s me! I was ten at the time and now I am 53 and this is the fanbase of tennis.

“If we don’t renew the fan base and don’t bring in new people, it is going to fade away. That’s a fact. All the studies that have been made show the same thing.

“Everybody knows that, but it is difficult to make drastic changes as all the traditional fans will be upset. That is why I did UTS.”
