World Golf Tour – Best Online Golf Game Ever!

A web-friendly golf game is teeing up in offices everywhere. U.S. productivity, meet your new worst enemy.

Today we got a sneak peek of a product that might actually change the way gaming and work is done forever! Hell it might change a lot of industries actually. It is called “World Golf Tour” and it is a Pioneering product to say the least.

World Golf Tour is an online golf game that incorporates satellite technology for its graphical layout. Why is this important you ask? Well you know how every person that has ever played a video game has said, “I can’t wait until games look just like real life”? WGT is well on the way to acheiving this for every gamer and every golf nut in the world.

What the Game is All About:

  • It puts you on world-class golf courses in stunning, high-definition color
  • it streams the game through any garden-variety browser without extra downloads (which means you can play in your cubicle without running afoul of the corporate firewall)
  • you’ll be able to play with your pals – to meet up for a virtual foursome or play in a league – from your desktop.

I wonder if they are going to come out with a full 18 hole game??

From what I here there are going to many different courses to play and they will all be 18 hole challenges. THere is also going to be some other skills games from what I hear.

World Golf Tour: Tips to help you on the real-world courses

World Golf Tour: Tips to help you on the real-world courses

Click, click, drop it in the hole

World Golf Tour is maybe the only golf game to use 3D photorealistic georeferencing in what has become a signature aspect of the game. That's how it gets its HD look. It's essentially like playing golf within images of courses. Speaking of which, WGT is also one of the few games to include real-world courses.

Some of the courses include juggernauts like Pebble Beach, St. Andrews, Bandon Dunes, and Merion. Most courses allow you to play a select amount of holes. So, that could be either the front nine or back nine, while others let you play three random holes.

The gameplay has the classic 3-click swing approach which has been popular in golf games for decades. And although these style of control is very familiar, there are still some strategic elements to keep in mind. This, especially since you're playing on real courses, including challenging ones like Kiawah Island and Bethpage Black.

Get used to the 3-click

world golf tour demo

Just because it's a recognizable concept, doesn't mean it's necessarily easy to master in WGT . Plus, if you're totally new to 3-click golf or golf games period, then it's good to get used to the controls. The cool thing is that all you need to do is press one button a few times. This is good if you want a more casual mobile gaming experience.

With this gameplay method, it's all about timing. Getting the power right on tee shots is the easy part, but making sure you're accurate will be a tad trickier. If you're too early or too late on the third click, then you'll hit your shot way right or left.

You don't need to be perfect on the last click, but if you can get the cursor near the sweet spot on the meter, then you'll be gravy. Practice on three-hole mini-games or get in a practice round and work on the three-click method. Hit some shots, get a feel for it, and you'll be set.

Read the slopes of the green

The greens in WGT can be pesky, especially since they clone the ones of the famous real-world courses. Make sure to read the greens by taking a look at the grid that covers them. If you've played golf games before, then you know what I'm talking about, but if not, then I'll explain.

The grid that is shown on the green will little beads on them. These beads will move in a certain direction based on the slope of the green. If the beads are heading right, then that means you'll need to aim your putt more towards the left and the same if it's the other way.

Keep an eye on the speed of the beads too. If they're moving fast, then that means you have to move much more to the opposite direction of the beads. Another thing is to look at the color of the grid. If it's red on a certain part of the slope, then that means it's an uphill putt. Blue means it's downhill and green means it's flat.

Use putt preview when necessary

Putting is likely the trickiest area of WGT but luckily, there is an aid that can help you out on the course. Putt previews can be utilized to help you read the greens. This a great tool that helps to make putting easier in the game. However, it will not hold your hand necessarily.

It would still be wise to read the slope of the green before using this feature. It will help make the preview more accurate. If you want, you can use the preview from the jump and you'll just have to remember which angle it was going for you to adjust your aim.

If you can read the grid, and try and put yourself in the best position you can, your preview should be right on point or close to it. The only thing you need to make sure of is having the right amount of power on your putting stroke. If you get that down, then the ball will drop right in the cup.

Club up or use spin

For approach shots, it's a good idea to see where your shot could end up when using a certain club. There are many instances where you need to club up or club down. For example, if you're using a 5-iron and it shows that the landing zone is going to be well past the green, then you should probably use a smaller club like a 6-iron instead.

If you're in a spot where clubbing up or down won't help you, then, try to use spin on your golf ball. To do this, just click on the ball on the lower left part of your screen. This will open up a small window with a red dot on the middle of the ball.

Move the dot down to provide more spin. Lifting it up will dish out less spin. By using backspin, this will allow the ball to slow down or roll backwards when it lands. So, if you know that you might overshoot your ball, then it should remain safely on the green if you use the right amount of spin.

8 Best Golf Simulator Softwares Of 2024 – Reviews & Buying Guide

Golfstead is reader-supported. When you buy through links on the site, we may earn an affiliate commission at no extra cost to you. Our affiliations include, but are not limited to, the eBay Partner Network and Amazon Associates.

Perhaps you’ve picked up a brand new launch monitor that is compatible with golf simulator software. Maybe you already have a simulator set up, or maybe you don’t yet own a simulator.

In any case, to get a proper golf simulator experience, you need quality software.

Different software solutions are compatible with different launch monitors and simulator tracking systems, from SkyTrak to Uneekor to FlightScope. Each software offers different features and game modes.

In this article, we’ll review and compare our choices for the best golf simulator software across a range of different budgets. We’ll also provide a buying guide that will help you find the software solution that will best meet your needs.

Note:  Golfstead has tested and/or conducted in-depth research into all of the software featured in this guide. Our editorial process for these rankings takes into account a mix of many factors which may include performance, features, usability, value for money, cost, and the general consensus from other users. The list that follows may be reassessed or updated over time.

Our Top Picks For Golf Simulator Software

The following are our top selections based on our own testing, research, and experience:

  • The Golf Club 2019
  • Uneekor Refine
  • Awesome Golf
  • Creative Golf

GSPro Logo

GSPro is a software that is designed to be ultra-realistic with advanced ball physics and 4K graphics.

In most golfing communities today, the general consensus is that GSPro is the best software to use for golf simulators. Why?

  • it has the most realistic physics and graphics
  • there is a sizeable selection of excellent courses and each recreation is of very high quality
  • it offers powerful community features including a course builder and the ability to participate in online virtual tours
  • it’s considerably more affordable than comparable simulator software solutions

It’s currently compatible with Uneekor and FlightScope launch monitors, but we expect more integrations to be added over time. They also offer an OpenAPI interface that tech-savvy users can use to unofficially integrate the software with other systems such as SkyTrak.

Course Selection

Practically all of the courses GSPro offers have been created by users using the Open Platform Course Designer (OPCD).

Currently, over 490 courses are available for play. Almost all of them are real-world courses, many of which are world-famous. Notables include:

  • Pinehurst No. 2
  • Pebble Beach
  • Torrey Pines South Course
  • The Old Course at St. Andrews
  • Whistling Straits
  • Royal St. George’s Golf Club

GSPro courses use LIDAR modelling to produce some of the most accurate recreations available. They are free to download.

GSPro currently has four main modes:

  • Local Match: play a course of your choosing by yourself or with other local players.
  • Tournaments: participate in tours and tournaments that you sign up for through Simulator Golf Tour (SGT).
  • Practice: for driving range or on-course practice sessions.
  • Online Match: join or create a room and play courses with other users around the world.

Possible game modes include stroke, stableford, scramble, best ball, alternate shot, and match play.

Watch Golf Simulator Videos take you through the new V2 update for GSPro:

SGT allows you to compete in the PGA, WEB, AutoPutt and Pro tours which hold weekly tournaments. Course flyovers are also possible.

One of the things we love most about GSPro is that you can pick any spot on any hole of any golf course and practice shots from that location.

The graphics of GSPro are really good — on the same tier as TGC 2019 and E6 CONNECT. 4K is supported, which is great. We especially like the texture of the turf and the sharpness of the foliage.

Having said that, we do find the lighting to be a bit flat, and despite their claims about ball physics, the roll of the ball can feel quite unnatural, especially on slow greens. However, the developers are continuing to improve the graphics with updates.

Requirements

The GSPro software can be purchased on the official website or at The Indoor Golf Shop . A Windows PC is required. The two payment options are:

  • $250/year: includes updates for the life of the subscription, but cancelling will revoke your access to the software.
  • $550 in the first year and $250/year after: includes updates, but cancelling will only revoke access to updates, not the software.

The minimum system requirements include a GTX 970 graphics card, 8GB of RAM, and 4GB of storage space.

2. The Golf Club 2019

The Golf Club Simulator Logo

The Golf Club 2019 (TGC 2019) software is compatible with the SkyTrak, FlightScope Mevo Plus and X3 , Uneekor QED and EYE XO , and many other launch monitors.

It’s only usable on PC (or Xbox/PS4 if you want to game like that), but there are several reasons why we rank it high on our list:

  • It has a huge course selection that allows golfers to play practically any golf course they can dream of.
  • It has plenty of features including local multiplayer and robust online competition.
  • It has great graphics, lighting and sound effects.
  • It’s relatively affordable.

TGC 2019 was originally a video game that was ported to golf simulators. Many people appreciate its polish and “video gamey” feel, even though it’s not actively being updated.

With TGC 2019, you have your typical practice range, but you also have numerous multiplayer modes, online tournaments and events, and you can even design your own course!

TGC 2019 has a massive selection of over 170,000 courses. However, while some of these are premium courses, many are user-designed, and many are slight variations or takes on the same real-world course.

For this reason, it can be a bit difficult to sift through the course replicas and find the one that you like the best or that you think is the most accurate.

With TGC 2019, you can:

  • play online (with strangers, friends or family) and compete in live worldwide tournaments
  • play multiplayer locally
  • access the TGC library of over 170,000 courses
  • do range, chipping or putting practice

Play formats include stroke play, match play, stableford, four ball, skins, and alternate shot. TGC has a cool feature that allows up to four players in a multiplayer setting to hit their shots at the same time.

Lastly, you can design your own course with a few clicks. A special editor allows you to customize everything in detail from the theme to the terrain and layout. If this is something you think you could have fun with, you could end up playing your own custom-created course with your golf simulator.

Take a look at the features and graphics of TGC 2019 in the video below:

As you will probably agree from the video above, the graphics of TGC are some of the best that current golf simulation software has to offer, with rich contrast and superb lighting and other effects.

One of the great things about TGC is that it supports screen resolutions up to 4K Ultra HD. If you can play at this resolution, you’ll be amazed at the sharpness, clarity and detail of the environments.

How to set up TGC 2019 will depend on the simulator that you’re using.

If you’re using the SkyTrak, you’ll first need the SkyTrak Launch Monitor with the Game-Improvement Plan or above. You’ll also need to make a one-time or annual purchase of the software through the SkyTrak store.

If you’re using Uneekor, the ES Tour Plus, ProTee, or some other simulator, make your purchase here and follow the instructions on the page.

TGC 2019 can be run on PC (Windows). Minimum system requirements include Windows 7 64-bit, Intel Core i5-760 @ 2.80GHz, and an NVIDIA GTX 670 or equivalent.

3. E6 CONNECT

E6 CONNECT Logo

E6 CONNECT by TruGolf is unquestionably one of the most well-known golf simulator softwares currently on the market. It should not be confused with E6 Golf, an older TruGolf offering created by the same team that created the best-selling PC sports title Links.

Compatible with systems such as SkyTrak, Vista, Approach R10 , Uneekor, FlightScope, and Full Swing KIT, it brings high-quality gameplay and a diverse range of features to the table.

Not only do you have the typical driving range and practice area, but you also have full course play, mini-games, real-time peer-to-peer play, and online events.

If you want to have fun with friends or by yourself, there’s no doubt you’ll be able to find something in the E6 software.

E6 CONNECT offers more than 90 courses in total, including 30 of the “Greatest Courses” as designated by Golf Digest and Golfweek.

The courses you have access to depend on the system you’re using as well as whether it’s a basic or expanded subscription. For example, 27 base courses (PC) are available with the SkyTrak, and additional courses are available at extra cost.

Notable courses include Firestone, Bethpage Black, Bay Hill, Mauna Kea, Torrey Pines, and Pinehurst #2. Recreations are very accurate and mapping is done with LiDAR laser scanning technology.

In addition to being able to practice on a virtual driving range and chip and putt on a hole of your choice, E6 CONNECT offers an array of mini-games and game modes including long drive, closest to the pin, henyett, stroke play, best ball, and scramble.

There is a whole host of settings that you can use to customize your experience. You can adjust things like mulligans, gimmie ranges, average ball speeds, ball size, course conditions, and much more.

Get a taste of E6 CONNECT in the video below:

You can adjust factors that influence difficulty such as wind and green speeds, and you’re able to display green elevation and break lines if you so choose.

There’s also peer-to-peer play: turn-based competition that can handle up to eight players.

The graphics in E6 are very good, with a realistic, high-fidelity look that is 4K compatible. We do find that they lack a bit of contrast compared to solutions like TGC 2019; however, the course recreations are very accurate and realistic.

All things considered, it’s some of the best graphics available for simulator software, and the fact that you also get both a fun, feature-rich experience means you won’t be left wanting.

E6 CONNECT is available for PC and iOS users. However, only a few simulator systems, namely the SkyTrak and Mevo+, support the iOS version; the PC version is much more widely supported.

With the SkyTrak in particular, you’ll need the Game-Improvement Plan or above, as well as a subscription to E6 CONNECT (not E6 Golf).

For Mevo+, Uneekor, FlightScope X3 and TrackMan users, go here to purchase E6 CONNECT and follow the instructions. For other systems, you’ll need to purchase the software from their own websites.

Recommended PC specs include an Intel i5 CPU, 8GB RAM, and an Nvidia 1070 video card or equivalent. For a full list of recommended system specs, visit this page .

4. Uneekor Refine

Uneekor QED Refine Software Logo

Refine is the middle-tier software solution (in between the View/Ignite and Refine+ tiers) for Uneekor’s two golf simulator systems, the QED and EYE XO.

The Refine software is excellent for a number of reasons; it has plenty of features and really doesn’t suffer from any of the weaknesses that many other softwares have.

It not only offers a 3D driving range and various challenge, course and practice modes, but it also has fitting capabilities and allows you to see the actual club impact and ball spin of each shot through OPTIX photographic technology.

Uneekor simulator systems are compatible with E6 and TGC software as well, but the Refine software should provide everything you need to improve your game and have a lot of fun.

Uneekor Refine includes five 18-hole golf courses. These are subject to change, but currently are Golf Seoul, South Village, Moon Bay CC, Two Rivers, and Bay Hill Korea.

These aren’t exactly some of the most famous golf courses of the world. However, with an upgrade to the Refine+ software tier (formerly Succeed), you get fifteen additional courses, many of which are well-known like Bay Hill.

Interesting fact: Uneekor is owned by Creatz, Inc., a company based in South Korea. This is why many of the course options within the software are Korean.

Uneekor Refine has six modes: Stroke Play , Course Practice , Driving Range , Short Game Complex , Challenge , and Quick Mode . More may be added with future updates.

1. Stroke Play

In stroke play, you can play golf courses of your choosing, either single-player or multiplayer. There are a ton of customization settings to go with this including tee height and location, difficulty, green speeds, mulligans, wind, and weather.

After each shot, you can immediately view various data points including ball and club head speed, back and side spin, and face and launch angle.

You also get a top-down view of your club impacting the ball in high-fps slow-motion.

2. Course Practice

What course practice allows you to do is pick any course available in the software, and practice any shot from any position. This mode is great for spontaneous and repetitive practice.

As in stroke play, you can set your desired conditions related to the environment, hole location, green speeds, etcetera.

For example, you could jump into the Two Rivers course, immediately go to hole 12, and go greenside to practice pitches. To move around the course quickly, use the minimap.

You can also choose to repeat the same shot over and over again or play from the next position.

3. Driving Range

This mode takes you to a practice range. Hit and shot you like, view the full gamut of data parameters, view video of your swing, and see your club’s impact with the ball in slow-motion frames with OPTIX.

You can also view your shot history and see the shape of your trajectories.

4. Short Game Complex

As implied in the name, this mode is all about improving your short game.

You can either practice your approaches or putting. Whichever mode you choose, you’ll be presented with a series of positions around a green complex that you can putt, chip or pitch from.

For each position, the software gives you tips for the shot. You can practice shots as much as you like and access extensive customization settings.

5. Challenge

This mode lets you play closest to the pin. It’s quite straightforward: you can add multiple players if you want, choose day or night mode, and pick a distance.

You are then taken to a teeing area on a river in the middle of a Korean-like city environment. You will have 40 seconds to hit three shots as close to the pin on the other platform as you can.

6. Quick Mode

This mode lets you select from six different practice modules, each of which provide exercises that are designed to help correct swing flaws or improve a certain aspect of your game.

You can correct hooks or slices, or you can work on your distance off the tee, wedge play, short game or putting.

Get a feel for Quick Mode and the software in general by watching this video:

The graphics in the Refine software are excellent — definitely on par with E6 CONNECT and even TGC 2019.

Textures like grass, trees, foliage, and even water are some of the best I’ve seen. Terrain and course accuracy is very good.

The only complaints I have are that ball landings and roll-outs feel a bit spongy, and bunker textures seem a little weird.

When it comes to entertainment and photo-realism, Refine has both in spades. The graphics certainly will not leave you wanting.

To use the Uneekor Refine software, you’ll need a Uneekor QED, EYE XO, or EYE XO2 simulator system. You’ll also need a PC with a minimum of:

  • Intel i5 8400
  • GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD 3rd Gen Ryzen
  • Windows 10 (64-bit)

As mentioned before, Uneekor software is also available in Ignite/View and Refine+ versions. Ignite saves you $1000, but it doesn’t include any modes except a driving range. Refine+ costs an extra $2000 and includes 15 additional courses.

5. Awesome Golf

Awesome Golf Logo

Awesome Golf is currently compatible with FlightScope launch monitors (X3, Mevo+, etc.), the Garmin Approach R10, the Rapsodo MLM2PRO, and Foresight and Bushnell units. It’s heavily focused on fun and entertainment with friends, family and children.

The folks behind Awesome Golf felt that existing golf simulator softwares were too boring and dry, so they set out to create their own software that is fun, easy to use, and enjoyable.

This is not a traditional piece of golf simulator software, but it’s extremely affordable and will keep you busy for hours on end. It also offers a dedicated version for driving ranges.

Unlike other software, Awesome Golf does not contain renditions of real-world golf courses. There are four fictional courses called:

  • Spring Park Hills: a countryside course with lush, wide fairways, large greens, and light wind.
  • Island Beach: a tropical seaside course consisting of multiple islands, higher winds, and beaches that act as bunkers.
  • Desert Canyon: a desert-like course with hills, high winds, and narrow fairways.
  • Valley Pines: narrow holes situated in the middle of a pine tree forest.

The course environments are quite charming and the difficulty isn’t too high, so practically anyone can have fun with them. More courses will likely be added over time.

Awesome Golf has four main modes:

  • Range: informative practice sessions and an in-depth analysis of every shot.
  • Challenges: closest to the pin, long drive, target golf, and skills challenge.
  • Shootouts: kid-friendly minigames including Super Splash (chip into pools to score points and avoid sharks) and Boat Blast (hit boats to score points).
  • Virtual Golf: full course play on the courses listed above.

Get an idea of how Awesome Golf plays in this video:

By downloading the Awesome Golf Community app for iOS and Android devices, you can also view detailed breakdowns of your stats and compete in leaderboards with other users around the world.

Awesome Golf is not designed to be realistic like other software. Instead, it has an appealing cartoon aesthetic, almost like something you would see in The Simpsons or South Park.

This is intentional, as the creators wanted to differentiate themselves from other simulator software. We think it works great because the environments are fictional anyways.

First you’ll need a launch monitor that is compatible with Awesome Golf.

You can purchase the software through the official website . At the time of writing, the payment options are either $199.99 + $9.99/month or $349.99 one time. Awesome Golf has a PC, Android and iOS version and licenses are multi-platform.

Because of the graphical style of the software, you don’t need such a powerful system to run it smoothly. A 7th gen (2017+) Intel CPU should be more than enough.

6. Creative Golf

Creative Golf Logo

Creative Golf (formerly known as Creative Golf 3D) is an interesting golf simulator software solution developed by Slovakia-based company DATAcrea.

It is unique from ultra-realistic softwares like E6 or TGC 2019. In addition to giving you the opportunity to improve your game with course play and a variety of practice modes, it offers many entertaining, quirky mini-games that are family and kid-friendly.

Creative Golf has great compatibility — it can be used with the SkyTrak, Uneekor, FlightScope launch monitors like the Mevo Plus , Approach R10, and even Foresight Sports launch monitors.

It’s fairly affordable too, and if you want, you can “supercharge” it with the Golfisimo software which adds a host of cute, entertaining games for children and non-golfers.

In total, Creative Golf offers a good selection of over 130 golf courses from around the world, some of which are real and some of which are entertainment and practice courses.

The full course library can be accessed with a separate purchase, and more courses are being added. Notable real courses include:

  • The Oxfordshire Golf (England)
  • The Royal Selangor Golf Club (Malaysia)
  • Kingsville Golf & Country Club (Canada)
  • Rush Creek Golf Club (USA)
  • Golf Bluegreen Pléneuf-Val-André (France)
  • GCC Dachstein-Tauern (Austria)
  • Golfclub München Eichenried (Germany)
  • Black Stork Golf Resort (Slovakia)

Environments and geographical features seem very accurate. Course recreations are based on elevation and satellite data as well as photos.

Here’s a run-through of the modes and game types:

  • Practice: Practice on a driving range or chip and putt on a course of your choice.
  • Course Play: Choose the course, game type (stroke, match play, etc.), number of players, and play a full round of golf.
  • Challenges: Participate in competitions locally (with friends or family) including closest-to-the-pin and long drive.
  • Mini Games: Play fairy tale golf (altered environment, larger holes, etc.), mini golf (putting), and demolition golf (hit windows of old buildings).
  • Online Game: Play a game type and course of your choice with anyone in the world. A Discord community is available to join.
  • Tournaments: Join tournaments listed on the tournament server and compete with players around the world.

If you have purchased Golfisimo along with Creative Golf, there will be a dedicated Golfisimo section on the main menu. From there, you can access fun games like darts, barrels, bridges, demolition golf, battlefield, and grand slam.

Take a look at the official trailer below:

The graphics are definitely not as good as software like WGT or E6 CONNECT, but it’s still very playable. You also have to consider the fact that modes like “fairy tale golf” will have graphical elements that are unconventional and unrealistic.

You can tell that Creative Golf is more of a “game” than a photo-realistic simulation, but for many people, that won’t matter. What’s important is having fun, being able to see your shots and the consequences of those shots.

Creative Golf can only be run on PC. Minimum PC requirements include Windows 7 or higher (64bit), 2GB of memory, 1GB of VRAM, and 2.5GHz processing speed.

Creative Golf has come out with numerous updates to their software (V2.9 and beyond) since the first release, with additions such as cloud tournaments, terrain influence, world ranking, online games, and new courses.

Creative Golf has software licenses for purchase on their e-shop . You can make one-time purchases or buy annual subscriptions for Uneekor and FlightScope systems, while SkyTrak purchases are made through the SkyTrak website. Licenses for Creative Golf, Golfisimo and the full course library are all available.

7. FSX 2020

Foresight Sports FSX Software Logo

FSX (latest 2020 ) is Foresight Sports’ in-house software solution for their line of commercial launch monitors: the GC2 , GC3 , GCQuad and GCHawk . It is only usable on PC.

FSX has plenty of game modes, skills challenges, and opportunities for you to compete with other players around the world. You can play on a virtual range and view real-time data for practice or club fitting.

If you’re using one of Foresight Sports’ professional-grade launch monitors, an FSX 2020 license is required for simulation. Fortunately, it more than gets the job done.

FSX reproduces many standard courses and world-famous courses as well. Notable courses include The Old Course @ St. Andrews, Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, Carnoustie, and Doral Blue Monster.

Over 110 course are available, but they each come at an individual cost. You can typically save on course packages on sites like eBay .

FSX has three main modes: Play , Compete , and Improve .

In Play Mode, you can play golf courses of your choosing.

The recreations are very accurate, and the customization options are extensive: you can do things like adjust green firmness, green speed, and weather conditions.

You can play with up to four players. Available game types include stroke play, scramble, and match play.

Compete Mode

The main element of this mode is skills challenges. You can participate in a series of increasingly difficult challenges that include long drive, closest-to-the-pin, and ball placement tests. The 2020 release of FSX adds a skill challenge called Glass Break.

Your results in these challenges can be stored and ranked against other players online.

Improve Mode is primarily for serious practice and club fitting. You can start new sessions and play on a virtual practice range.

On the range, you can get complete ball and clubhead performance data in real time. You can view tabular summaries of your shot data, isolate trends, and view video.

Check out this video on the making of FSX 2018:

To be completely honest, the graphics of FSX are noticeably worse than softwares like E6, TGC and WGT. We’re not saying that the course recreations themselves are bad, but some of the textures (particularly trees and foliage) certainly are.

FSX made noticeable improvements to the graphics in the 2018 release. The 2020 release graphics are slightly better, but not by much. The graphics will surely continue to improve in future releases.

With that said, the graphics do not take away from actually using the software — you can have fun with game modes and have excellent practice sessions regardless.

Additionally, Foresight Sports has come out with a new version of another piece of software called FSX Play. Although it has less features than FSX 2020 at the moment, it has better graphics and 4K support, and its course selection is growing all the time.

The first thing you’ll need, of course, is a compatible launch monitor from Foresight Sports. We review a couple of them here .

You’ll also need a PC with a minimum of Windows 7 and an NVidia GeForce 1050 Ti or equivalent. An i7 Gen 6 processor is recommended.

Note that you may be able to access different features and functionality within the FSX 2020 software depending on your launch monitor model. The GCQuad, for example, allows for a complete putting analysis.

As is the case with Foresight Sports launch monitors themselves, the FSX 2020 software is very expensive, but if you have the 2018 version, you can upgrade to the 2020 version for free.

8. WGT Golf

WGT By Topgolf Logo

World Golf Tour (WGT) is a virtual golf game and simulator software released in 2008. Owned by Topgolf, it’s primarily compatible with the SkyTrak, and it can also be played standalone on a PC, Mac, Android or iOS device.

It’s important to note that when using SkyTrak with WGT Golf , only an iOS device (such as an iPad) can be used. Also, there is no multiplayer or skills challenges that you would find in many of the other software options reviewed on this page.

If you can live with these limitations, then WGT Golf should be one of your top choices. Its strengths are:

  • stroke play format (recreations of many of the most famous golf courses around the world)
  • a driving range
  • closest-to-the-pin challenges

The course selection in WGT Golf is quite limited at 24, or 18 with the SkyTrak. However, they are some of the best and most famous courses in the world.

Examples include Chambers Bay, Congressional, Valhalla, Pebble Beach, St. Andrews, and Bethpage Black. In SkyTrak, only 12 courses are available for full play, and six more are for challenges only.

Each course recreation has had a lot of care put into it, and is highly accurate to real life.

The main modes of WGT Golf are stroke play, closest-to-the-pin challenges, and a practice range.

Settings and customization aren’t very extensive. Nonetheless, you can view various types of data such as green speed, wind strength & direction, and pin locations. With the SkyTrak, you can view ball data such as distance, speed, spin rate, launch, and other metrics.

Get a feel for how the SkyTrak version of WGT works in this video:

The graphics of WGT Golf used to be really bad. Since it became compatible with the SkyTrak, it has taken a definite step up and now has some of the best graphics of any simulator software. In fact, the virtual environment is so photo-realistic that you might think you’re watching a broadcast on TV.

What’s lacking, however, are camera features like hole flyovers and different camera angles for viewing, which is a bit disappointing.

Also, keep in mind that an iPad only has so much computing power, which means there’s a limit to how much smoothness and graphical prowess you can experience.

You can easily sign up for WGT Golf and play online, but we don’t recommend this. Instead, we recommend using WGT with the SkyTrak.

You’ll need the SkyTrak Launch Monitor with the Play and Improve Plan , which costs around $199.95/year, but there are no additional services you need to subscribe to beyond this.

You also need an iPad that supports 3D graphics. Models that are confirmed to be compatible are the iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad Minis 2-4, and iPad Pro. You’ll also be using this device to run your SkyTrak system.

You’ll need to download the WGT Golf Mobile iOS app from the App Store before you can get started. If you have a different model of iPad, you can check for yourself if it’s compatible with WGT Golf.

Buying Guide

Investing in good software for your golf simulator or launch monitor that will meet your needs is very important. If your software doesn’t have features you want like multiplayer or skills challenges, for example, it can really put a damper on your enjoyment.

Here are the most important factors you need to consider when determining which simulator software to get for your system:

1. Compatibility

Laptop workstation

Compatibility is really the most important factor when getting software for your simulator system, because it limits your options.

Some systems like TruGolf Vista and Foresight Sports only offer a couple (often in-house) software solutions. Foresight Sports has recently integrated GSPro and Awesome Golf into their software ecosystem but they require an FSX 2020 license to access.

To set up software not officially compatible with a system, you can often force it through something called the ProTee interface, but not everyone will want to do this.

Simulators like the Uneekor EYE XO have better compatibility, with the option to set up View/Refine/Refine+, E6 CONNECT, TGC 2019, Creative Golf, or GSPro.

The SkyTrak has some of the best software compatibility available, with at least seven possible options. Keep in mind, though, that some of these options are only usable on one device like an iPad or PC.

It’s crucial to make sure that the software you’re interested in is compatible with your simulator system, and that you have the device and minimum specs to run it. Some softwares are quite demanding in terms of resources, while others aren’t.

2. Features

What do you want to do on your golf simulator? Do you just want to hit shots on a virtual practice range?

If you’re solely interested in viewing your numbers and improving your ballstriking on the range, then you might not even need any third-party software at all. The SkyTrak, for instance, comes with a 3D practice range out of the box — you can view a shot tracer, replays, and all of your ball performance data.

Whichever system you’re using, you should figure out what you can do on it without any installed software.

Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf User Interface

On the other hand, if you want more features like:

  • multiplayer (playing locally with family or friends)
  • game modes like stroke play and match play
  • chipping and putting around the green
  • challenges like closest-to-the-pin and long drive
  • online tournaments
  • fun minigames

In this case, you’ll need to look at what the software offers. Different software options may offer multiplayer, skills challenges, online play, or tournaments.

Think about what features you want or need, and consider the software that does the best job of aligning with that.

3. Graphics

How important are ultra-realistic graphics to you? Do you want the most photo-realistic experience possible when you’re playing replicas of famous courses?

If yes, your best bet is to go with GSPro, E6 CONNECT (supports 4K graphics display), Uneekor Refine, or WGT Golf, if these softwares are compatible with your system.

But if you mostly care about features, then you should be open to software like Creative Golf, FSX 2020, or TGC 2019 (which still have very good graphics). Awesome Golf has its own cartoonish style that is not designed for photo-realism.

Remember that more graphically demanding software will typically require more powerful computer hardware.

Money bag

Many software options available for golf simulator systems are quite expensive. For instance, the FSX 2020 software license for Foresight Sports launch monitors can cost upwards of $3000.

That’s a professional solution, though; many other software options won’t cost nearly as much.

Still, your budget is important, and it means that it might not be worth spending the big bucks if you don’t want more than a driving range. One of the most popular simulators and launch monitors on the market, the SkyTrak, comes with a virtual driving range at no extra cost.

Some of the software reviewed above have one-time purchase licenses that cost $1000+. Some have course packs that run at a few hundred dollars a piece.

It’s generally true that the less you spend, the less you get in terms of features and graphics, but it’s certainly not a hard-and-fast rule. Sometimes, professional solutions that cost many thousands of dollars don’t offer a lot more than much more affordable software.

If you have yet to buy your simulator system, check this out: our recommended golf simulator source  here  provides easy financing options that allow you to pay for a SkyTrak, Ernest Sports launch monitor, or even a Uneekor system over the course of a year or longer. Don’t forget about this option.

The software you end up using for your golf simulator will ultimately come down to your personal preference, whether you place more importance on hyper-realism or entertainment, and what’s compatible with the system.

These days, there are many quality software solutions on the market. Some have multiplayer features, some have challenges and minigames, and some even run worldwide tournaments that you can compete in and win various prizes.

The ideal golf simulator software displays informative ball flight data, has good graphics and accurate course recreations, and has the features and game modes that you want. Finding the software that will best meet your needs is certainly possible with some research.

We’ve given you the information you need to make a decision; it’s up to you to go the rest of the way.

If you have a SkyTrak or plan on getting a SkyTrak, check out our article on the best software for that system here .

Please advise your recommendation of best simulator software compatible with MEVO+. I started out in fall of 2020 with MEVO+ & TGC2019. Golf courses are TGC are awesome, but the operating system STINKS!

I have either iOS iPad Pro or Windows 11 PC available & would prefer 1-time lifetime purchase to annual subscription.

' src=

Hi Steve. If I understand you correctly, you want a recommendation other than TGC 2019. E6 CONNECT has a one-time license purchase but there are only 27 courses and it’s expensive. Creative Golf offers over 130 international courses with the purchase of a separate library, but the graphics aren’t as realistic as TGC 2019 or E6 CONNECT. If you’re okay with the graphical fidelity of Creative Golf, I suggest that. But I go over all of the software options for the Mevo+ in my review , so you should check that out. Jump to the “Simulation Options” section. The prices for all the software are in the section after that. Hope this helps.

Hi! There are some features in these software packages I find it hard to get information about.

After a range session I would like to – Analyze the session and single shots in an appropriate app (preferably on my home computer) – Compare shots and club results by and across session – (Download the session data in a spreadsheet format (xls) for further analysis.)

Most software dont even seem to store the results from a range session. Do you have information on which software above can do this?

Hey there. These softwares are more about getting a virtual golf simulator experience playing rounds on rendered golf courses. To get the functionality you’re looking for, your best bet is to use companion apps that pair with the launch monitor you’re interested in. For example, you can analyze and export data with the SkyTrak app, through MyFlightScope.com for the Mevo Plus, or through the Garmin Golf app for the Approach R10. The analysis features that are available to you will depend on the launch monitor you have, so let me know what that is and I’ll be able to help you better.

Thank you very much for the response, Paul! 🙂

I got my Garmin R10 two days ago, and was a bit disappointed by how bad the user experience was on the Garmin Golf app, even on a pad. Specially the missing ability to easyly scroll between shots. And also that the data was NOT available in my Garmin Connect account for futher analysis on my PC. I would have thought these were very basic features for such a software.

The Garmi R10 works fine and collects all of the data I need, but I need software to access and analyze the data AFTER the session. Thats why I immediately started looking for alternative software that could deliver these features.

I see. It does look like the Garmin Golf app cannot send data to Garmin Connect at the moment; I agree that should be changed. If you haven’t already, I would reach out to Garmin support to make sure that you’re not missing anything in the app. When it comes to simulation software, you can upload practice stats in E6 CONNECT to the E6 Golf Portal for later viewing, but I haven’t checked how deep that functionality goes. What I recommend you do is reach out to the developers of the software so that you can be sure whether or not it does exactly what you want it to. Evidently, the features you expect aren’t so basic!

Aside from that, I know that Foresight Sports launch monitors have apps and software that really allow you to drill down into session data and export to spreadsheets, but these launch monitors are very expensive ($8000+) and probably out of your budget. SkyTrak has some nice data analysis features, as does the Mevo+. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

I’m in same boat.. I want to improve and to do that I need ability to review data from the comfort of a desktop and not just a tiny phone screen.. E6 does upload shot data to their web portal after each round so that could be enough for you. (E6 doesn’t track extended metrics from Mevo+ Pro Package yet sadly)

I mostly use the Flightscope Golf app for technical work/range as it’s fantastic and also uploads to their web portal (Although it’s in dire need of a refresh). I know you’re a Garmin user but I have to say I’ve been quite impressed with Flightscope’s software. It didn’t use to be that good but they really improved since Mevo+ came out. Still waiting on them to refresh the old X2/X3 Windows Desktop App though.. They also have multi-cam support and tons of stuff Garmin will likely never add..

' src=

Next time you update the reviews, please include some commentary on how well the software holds up in a “golf party”. That is, you might have friends over to play and one of them needs to take a bio break. With TGC 2019, there is no way to skip their turn and let them ‘catch up’ once they return. Everyone needs to wait until they return to take their shot. Similarly, being able to add or drop a golfer from the game in the middle (some people only want to play 9). Or being able to add more than 4 people to the group. Or be able to just skip to a couple of iconic holes (Augusta #12 or Pebble #18) and play them a few times over and over.

TGC 2019 doesn’t support any of these features and I’d like to know which simulators do without needing to try each one first hand.

I know that with FSX 2020, a player can pause a hole, and after the other players finish the hole, the player can play the shots for that hole to catch up. With regards to those other features, GSPro allows you to add/drop players mid-round, add more than 4 players, and select specific holes to play.

Beyond this, what I would suggest doing is contacting the developers of the softwares and asking them if they include these features that you’re looking for. You don’t need to purchase first. Hope this helps!

I’ve been using E6 for 2 years and It does allow to skip players or jump ahead for any reason. E6 Connect supports dropping a player during the round if they have to go or something. Hope this helps.

' src=

I have the Uneekor eye xo monitor with TGC 2019, and I am looking for an additional software for practice. Looking at the Refine and GSpro. What is your recommendation?

Both are excellent choices. Refine is a one-time purchase and although it only has a few courses, it has five training modes including Shot Game Complex. GSPro is mostly subscription-based but it opens up access to hundreds of high-quality user-created courses. I would say that Refine is the better choice for practice and GSPro is the better choice for course play.

' src=

This needs to be redone. I think the list has changed in the last year

No, this is pretty up-to-date Joe. There are other softwares out there but we still consider these the best.

' src=

I would not recommend E6 Connect for Skytrak users. The hardware and software are not currently compatible and apparently have had issues for over a month. I purchased a license with no warnings from either company that they were not currently compatible.

Neither company is providing updates at my request and state that the connection issue is with the other company. They continue to sell licenses as if there is nothing wrong. If Skytrak users purchase the license directly through Skytrak you will not be able to get a refund for the purchase. $400 wasted.

Sorry about your experience Dan. At the moment, it does look like there are major problems with E6 CONNECT on SkyTrak. But they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix. In the meantime, I recommend installing a previous version of the software.

Charley Hull hits career-high in world rankings: Should she be winning more on the LPGA Tour?

Charley Hull is at a career high in the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings and contends regularly on both sides of the Atlantic, but should the Englishwoman be reaching the winner's circle more often?

Hull is up to seventh in the latest world rankings after a top-10 placing at the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship, her fourth in five worldwide starts this year, and only a costly finish denied her ending higher up the leaderboard.

The 28-year-old dropped three shots over her closing two holes to end four strokes behind Nelly Korda, a fortnight on from squandering a final-round lead and finishing second at an Aramco Team Series event on the Ladies European Tour.

Hull also finished third on the LET at the Aramco Ladies International, following a share of seventh at the LPGA Tour's season-opening Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, although she remains without a worldwide victory since 2022.

She only has two LPGA Tour titles and three Ladies European Tour wins since turning professional in 2013, with former Solheim Cup star Trish Johnson believing Hull doesn't win enough for the skill she possesses.

Asked if Hull is as successful as she should be, Johnson told the Sky Sports Golf podcast: "Not even close. I'm probably her harshest critic, because I know how good she is. She doesn't win anywhere near enough for her talent, and she doesn't get involved enough, in all honestly.

"The thing with Charley is that you're never going to change her. I read something the other day that said how much she loves the game and it's her love of the game [that costs her]. She's never going to change and she's just going to go for every pin.

"In theory that's great, but it won't win you golf tournaments, it just won't because she's not that much better than anybody else. If you put Charley against Nelly Korda, then I'm picking Nelly every single day of the week."

Hull features at the inaugural Ford Championship presented by KCC, live this weekend on Sky Sports Golf , which is the penultimate LPGA Tour event before the women's major season begins at the Chevron Championship next month.

The six-time Solheim Cup player was a two-time runner-up in majors last year and had five second-place finishes in 2023 overall, and Johnson questions whether Hull's style of play prevents her from winning more frequently.

"Golf-wise that's the way she plays the game and it's a little bit like watching John Daly I suppose," Johnson said.

Live LPGA Tour Golf

"There's something that John Daly had that made him a major winner and a winner, but Charley is kind of lacking that. Her talent is not in question, but maybe her application is.

"Maybe it's just the case of her never changing and that will cost her golf tournaments, there's no two ways about it. You cannot go for every pin because that's the way you play and it being fun, as other players are better than that and you have to have course management."

LIV Golf returnee makes DP World Tour comeback look effortless despite earnings of $900,000

W hen LIV Golf came into existence, a lot of players decided to join it, thanks to the huge sum of money that was offered, and that too for playing quite less. The likes of Talor Gooch, Dustin Johnson, and Brooks Koepka made a lot of money, and most of the players also earned a good chunk of money.

However, not everyone had the same luck. One of them was Norris, who joined the Saudi-backed circuit in 2022 but could make only $900,000, which was a modest amount in comparison to many who earned millions.

By the end of the season, Norris had left LIV Golf, returned to the DP World Tour in 2023, and played nine events. The results were modest, but this season he has already raked in two top tens. His best result was at the Jonsson Workwear Open, where he finished joint runner-up.

Norris has won just one title on the DP World Tour in Steyn City, where he beat Dean Burmester by three strokes. His majority of wins have come on the Japan Golf Tour, where he has claimed six titles. Further, he has also won three times on the Sunshine Tour, his native country's circuit. During the 2021–22 season, he also won the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit.

How has Shaun Norris performed since returning to the DP World Tour from LIV Golf?
