What Our Guests Are Saying
Exploring so many landmarks and learning about their history on a sunny day was brilliant. Francesco gave us a great tour with his very detailed knowledge and smooth navigation through the town, highly recommended.
"I would definitely recommend this tour. Maria, our tour guide was really great! She was very friendly and more than willing to take any pictures that we asked for. She told a lot of funny stories and was more than willing to answer any questions that we had about university life at Cambridge in general. Thank you Maria, you were the highlight of our day in Cambridge!"
"Although I and my wife have been to Cambridge many times, we took this tour with Laura to get an insight on how it is to live and learn in Cambridge. As a recent graduate, Laura was able to go beyond the "facts and dates" and give a viewpoint of someone who spent 3 years living, working and learning in Cambridge. Excellent tour guide who made the 90 minutes fly by."
"Jess was brilliant, funny, and witty. She was very knowledgeable about so much of the university. She studied at the university before becoming a professor of Latin there. She showed us lots of little hideouts that have a great history which most of the tourist swarms don’t come close to. She was very patient and moved at the group’s pace and answered any questions."
Francesco was an incredible guide, and the whole experience was so worth it! The tour was filled with amazing history, fun trivia, and even myths and legends that have circulated the university for hundreds of years. It's very obvious that the tour company (and Francesco) have put in a lot of effort to make sure the experience is educational and engaging. Also, Francesco kept his mask on the entire tour which we appreciated, and the group was kept small (only 6 of us total), which gave us the ability to keep our own boundaries as needed. Thanks so much, would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Cambridge for the day!
Excellent day on my birthday. We did the walking tour with Joshua who is a great communicator extremely well prepared. We were just 3 of us and there was also another student that was doing her training...so we had also another guide. Joshua suggested also a great place for a quick lunch (Bread & Meat) which I am going to review as well with 5 stars. It was the perfect day also for the punting which we did in the same boat with another couple, and that was very good as well, as it offers a great perspective of the most famous colleges. I would like to mention also the great service from Eren, the manager of Cambridge Alumni Tours. A superb experience all-round at a fair price.

Which Cambridge Tour Is Best?
This post details the different types of walking tours available to you in Cambridge, including free walking tours, ghost tours, and more.
- Other Walking Tours
- Things to do in Cambridge
- How to Get Here
There are several different tours you can take in Cambridge, and each one offers a different perspective of the city and its many historic landmarks.
Free Cambridge walking tours are pay-what-you-wish, which means that you get to decide what the journey was worth when it is over.
There are also paid walking tours and some of them are actually led by alumni of Cambridge University, ensuring that you’ll learn a lot about the colleges in particular.
We are also working on creating a self-guided tour of Cambridge, but it has yet to be completed.
Until it's ready, we recommend reading our post about things to do in Cambridge instead, as it covers a lot of the most notable sites.
Can you take a Cambridge University tour for free?
While most of the free Cambridge walking tours include at least one stop at Cambridge University, there are no pay-what-you-wish walking tours that focus specifically on the university.
FREE WALKING TOURS OF CAMBRIDGE
These are some of the most popular and affordable tours available in Cambridge, and they usually cover most of the historic and notable sites in the city.
This section will provide details about some of the better walking tours in Cambridge, what you can expect to see on each outing, and how much each tour will cost.

You can take this 2-hour tour twice a week on Saturday and Sunday at 12:30 pm. This service is currently offered primarily in English.

Footprints Tours
Footprints Tours is a walking tour company that operates in several UK cities, including London, Oxford, and Bath.
Their Cambridge tour is another popular option, which features guides who are trained to add extra personality in their tours.
Like Free Tours By Foot, Footprints Tours are ‘name your own price’ so there is no risk in taking the tour.
This outing will last for a total of 2 hours, covering a variety of the most famous sites of Cambridge University, such as King’s College and Trinity Hall.
- Ticket Prices: pay-what-you-wish
- Hours: 11:00 (11 am) and 14:00 (2 pm)
- Includes tips on great local cafes, bars and more
NOTE: This company also offers a Cambridge University tour for £29.99.

Here are a few of the locations you can expect to see along the way:
- Market Hill
- St. Eduard's Alley
- St. Botolph's Church
- Trinity College
This free Cambridge walking tour is offered daily at 11:30 am and it's approximately 2 hours 30 minutes long.
On Saturday and Sunday, the tour is also offered a second time at 15:30 (3:30 pm).
Paid Cambridge Walking Tours
These outings aren't free, but they do offer an excellent alternative if you can't manage to schedule one of the pay-what-you-wish walking tours listed above.
These groups tend to be smaller and some of these tours are even led by alumni of Cambridge University!
Cambridge Tour Guides
The highest-rated walking tour company in Cambridge on Tripadvisor, this company organizes private or group tours for visitors.

Another highly rated company, Cambridge Alumni Tours is (unsurprisingly) led by former Cambridge University alumni.
This means that guests learn historical facts in addition to gaining insight into what it’s like to live and study at Cambridge.
They offer both public and private tours, making services a bit more affordable.
In addition to the walking tours, Cambridge Alumni Tours also offer punting tours.
This walking tour runs for a total of 1 ½ hours and it covers sites like Cambridge University, Trinity College, and Pembroke College.

International Women’s Day

This International Women’s Day, 8 March 2024, join the United Nations in celebrating under the theme Invest in women: Accelerate progress .
The world is facing many crises, ranging from geopolitical conflicts to soaring poverty levels and the escalating impacts of climate change. These challenges can only be addressed by solutions that empower women. By investing in women, we can spark change and speed the transition towards a healthier, safer, and more equal world for all.
An additional $360 billion is needed per year to achieve gender equality.
Closing gender gaps in employment could boost GDP per capita by 20 per cent.
Closing gaps in care and expanding services with decent jobs could spark almost 300 million jobs by 2035.
If current trends continue, more than 342 million women and girls could be living extreme poverty by 2030. To ensure women’s needs and priorities are considered, governments must prioritize gender-responsive financing and increase public spending on essential services and social protection.
Policymakers must also value, recognize, and account for the vital contribution women make to economies worldwide through paid and unpaid care work. Women spend around three times more time on unpaid care work than men and if these activities were assigned a monetary value they would account for more than 40 per cent of GDP .
Investing in women and championing gender equality turbocharges a future where everyone in society can thrive, creating a world of boundless opportunity and empowerment for all.
