Make your own Ultimate Travel Bag
Have you made the Ultimate Travel Bag yet? I have always loved the look of this bag and was initially intimated by this pattern when my local Quilt Shop asked me to teach this class. This bag pattern (from byannie.com) has a lot of bells and whistles! I love the detachable adjustable strap, the exterior pockets and compartments and I especially love the interior! The inside is full of all the good things! Who doesn’t love an interior that is lined with mesh pockets and zippered compartments? This interior provides easy visibility of contents, extra stretchiness and, best of all, adds absolutely no bulk to the seams. Let me tell you all about it how to make your own Ultimate Travel Bag!

This bag is the perfect travel companion. It is very functional and is carry-on compliant and sure to turn heads wherever you go. I already mentioned the carrying strap and the inside pockets with mesh. I forgot to mention that it has a handy strap across the back that helps secure the bag to rolling luggage. Yay!
The Ultimate Travel Bag measures 18½” long x 13¾”H x 8″D.
The Ultimate Travel Bag is the perfect size to carry a small sewing machine. I can fit my little Kenmore or my Featherweight! If you intend to carry something heavy such as a sewing machine in your bag, I used a foam core board for the base. It worked perfect!

T he Ultimate Travel Bag – construction
I recommend you read the entire pattern before you start making this bag. This will help you understand where and how all the pieces fit together. After review of all the materials, you should quilt your fabric sandwich and cut all your pieces. This pattern comes with some awesome pattern piece markers – so nice to keep organized!
I took the first day to cut and prep all my fabric and materials. The next day, I started with assembly. This bag has lots of parts and pieces. You don’t want to skip ahead or assume too much!
I mentioned in the supply list that I used purse feet instead of buttons. I like the look of these feet and they are super easy to install.
I think the interior binding was the trickiest part. I will admit that having a stiletto was completely necessary. I would recommend taking your time and going slow. The video even has a place where folks have asked questions and received answers. That’s very handy! Here is a sneak peek of what you can expect in the Pattern/Video .
The Ultimate Travel Bag – all finished!!!
I really love how my Ultimate Travel Bag turned out. I already have my next bag’s fabric already set aside – These will make a FANTASTIC gift!
I hope you take some time and enjoy this fun pattern!
Happy Sewing!

I’ve made 4 of these bags, so far. I love this pattern and I think Annie Unrein has the best teaching style out there. That wonderful teaching video is a few years old and surprisingly, I can still post a question or statement in the comments section and Annie will respond within days. I was amazed at her dedication.
Would love to make this bag for a living
I would like to get the material for the travel bag, Could you please give me the price for the kit And the the CD. Many thanks Margaret
Hello Margaret, You can purchase the supply kit at Craftsy. You will need to supply your own fabric. The instructional video is helpful as well. All the info is listed in the post above. Please let me know if I can assist you further. Thanks! ~Nicole
Hi Annie, I really want to purchase your pattern but I would like to know if it includes the online steps like on craftsy I cannot purchase that one because I travel and it won’t allow me to purchase it out of the states.
Thank you and kind regards NATALIA Ramos
Hi Natalia! This pattern is from byAnnie.com and is also available on her website. Happy Sewing!
How do I get a copy of the pattern for this adorable bag
The pattern (with video instructions) is linked above. If you don’t have a Blueprint subscription, I believe they have a free trial you can take advantage of! Happy Sewing!
How long did it take you to construct this bag? Including cutting?
That is a great question! I spent one day cutting and prepping all of the various pieces. The next day was spent on assembly. The videos and make it especially easier to assemble. Happy sewing!
Thank you….but I have a feeling you must work more efficiently than I do! : ) : )
I would like to know how long the prep of the components? I know that quilting the fabric, prepping the strap, covering it, etc cutting out all the pieces, binding the mesh . An entire day? Sounds like it.
I usually set aside 2 days to make a bag of this size. The first day to prep all the pieces and the second day to sew it together. Once you make one, you will be so glad you invested the time!
Would it be easy to substitute fabric for the mesh for the inside pockets?
Lauren, I am making this bag right now. The directions say you can use fabric for the inside pockets. That is what I am going to do using contrasting fabric.

Whenever I travel, I always find myself scanning the crowd in hopes to find a few good handmade bags. Then when I find one I instantly become intrigued and want to learn more about the person carrying it. Who are they, where are they heading and where did they find the pattern!
I know, it’s strange and I’m sure they feel me staring but I think this behavior is a side effect of being part of the sewing community. Plus, if they look closer, they will see that I too, travel handmade ! This week I’m excited to share that Annie Unrein launched a new class; The Ultimate Travel Handbag .
So, I’m sure you understand that when my friends at Craftsy asked if I wanted to take the class my response was… Heck Yeah!! I’ve already taken Annie’s Travel Organizer class and loved her organized approach. Plus hello, that bag is perfect for my next trip.
No matter where you are in your sewing journey, you will feel comfortable and confident sewing along with Annie. The class materials are extremely thorough and comes with a detailed 18 page pattern that even includes colored labels to help you keep each pattern piece organized during your project. They are just too cute and so handy!
The class will walk you through each step of making the bag and Annie offers additional tips along the way. Like using a sewing stiletto.
I’m not going to lie, this project has a bunch of steps but in the end, I think it’s gonna be awesome!! Instead of using a solid piece of fabric for my bag, I’ve gone ahead and pulled out my scraps.
I started each panel using the Quilt As You Go method and can not wait to finish them up!
Now, I’m sure you’re excited to make your own bag and I have a fun treat to share. For a limited time only, The Sewing Loft readers can enroll in the Ultimate Travel Bag Class and recieve an exclusive 50% discount- Just $19.99.
After I finish my ultimate travel bag, I’ll be sure to circle back and share it in action. Then, you’ll be able to spot me in the airport next time and we can chat the time away before our flights take off!
In the meantime, be sure to grab her class at this deep discount while you can!

7 DIY Travel Bag Patterns So You Can Travel In Style
Have you ever noticed that when you are shopping for various travel bags, there are two options? You can get cheaply made nylon bags or extremely overpriced “bland” looking bags.
But how do we get around these two options? The answer is simple: DIY travel bags.
Today, I want to go over the different types of travel bags and supplies and how to create them, and then show you some beautiful travel bag patterns that you can use to create your traveling accessories.
Page Contents
Types of Travel Bags
Before we jump into the how-to or the patterns list, I want to go over the different kinds of bags categorized as “travel bags.” Remember that this post focuses on travel bags you can create, not factory-made luggage.
- Jewelry bag
- Toiletry bag
- Garment bag
- Travel tote
- Backpack
Supplies You Will Need to Make Your Own Travel Bag
The supplies you will need will vary depending on the specific item you are making. The following list will include various notions and supplies you will need to make different travel bags.
- Travel bag sewing pattern
- Interfacing for structure
- Trimming (optional for decoration)
- Scissors or rotary cutter and mat
- Sewing machine
How Do You Make a Travel Bag?
Now that we know the different types of travel bags and the supplies we may need to create them let’s go over the steps of making a travel bag.
I recommend using a pattern when doing a project like this since it will have detailed instructions for the different steps. These are essential steps to give you an idea of what’s involved when making a large bag.
- Step 1: Choose a pattern
When looking for the perfect pattern, you want to make sure you are looking for one that is within your skill level and will meet your traveling needs. There are thousands of travel bag patterns available on the market, so you shouldn’t have a problem finding something that will work for you.
- Step 2: Cut all fabric and interfacing pieces
The pattern you choose either has specific cutting instructions or may even come with templates you can use to cut the fabric pieces you will need. Remember the age-old tip: “measure twice, cut once.”
- Step 3: Attach notions to the fabric pieces
Where you add the notions will vary depending on which ones you are using and when the pattern tells you to add them. I wanted to include this so you can think about when you need to add them. There’s nothing more frustrating than realizing you forgot to add a D-ring or other notions and have to take apart part of your project and add it. *Speaking from personal experience*
- Step 4: Sew the exterior pieces together
The pattern writer will do a great job of explaining how to do this step. Ensure you keep your raw edges lined up at all times to ensure an even seam allowance.
- Step 5: Create and attach the straps
This is a fun step; you can make straps from various materials like canvas, leather, quilting cotton, denim, nylon strapping, etc. Some patterns will have you attach the straps before you sew the lining and exterior parts together. Others will have you connect them to the exterior first.
- Step 6: Sew the lining pieces together
This step will be where you add pockets for the bag’s interior and create the lining. I like to use a fun, funky fabric inside my bags. It gives it a little more personality and pizazz.
Tip: If you use a weekender bag pattern and want a sizeable wide-open bag, you can skip creating a lining. To conceal the raw edges of the exterior parts, take bias tape and sew it along all the raw edges. This will give the bag a more finished look; plus, when you wash it, the edges won’t unravel.
- Step 7: Sew the lining and exterior parts together
This final step is always exciting since you see the entire bag come together. Follow the instructions in the pattern you’ve used to complete the bag. Once you’ve finished the bag, take a moment to admire your work and show it off to your friends and family!
7 Travel Bag Patterns For You To Peruse
For this compilation, I tried to find a good selection of travel bag patterns to give you a glimpse into what is possible with a bit of fabric, thread, and imagination. Without further ado, let’s dive into this fun collection!
- Rollie Pollie Organizer
You can use this fun little organizer to store all kinds of things for your trip, from toiletries to makeup to jewelry. This toiletry bag sewing pattern includes instructions and templates to create this unique roll-up organizer. It features four removable pouches, and the pattern has instructions for three different sizes. The skill level for this project is intermediate.
- Convertible Travel Bag
How cute is this convertible bag? This bag would be great if you are planning a day trip to the city or if you want to take your laptop to the local coffee shop to do some work. The maker of this bag used an existing messenger bag pattern and made some changes to the straps to make it convertible. The straps can be used either as a messenger bag or backpack.
- DIY Easy Makeup Bag
Here is a free tutorial to make this cute pleated makeup bag. The maker gives a supplies list, written instructions with photos, and a YouTube video to accompany the tutorial. The finished bag will measure approximately 9”x5”x5”, the perfect size for travel.
- Retro Travel Bag
I found this pattern on Etsy in the shop PolkaDotChair. The pattern will show you how to create your duffel bag that measures 20”x11”x6”. The pattern includes templates and gives you three different strap options depending on what look you are going for with your bag.
- Got Your Back 2.1
This backpack pattern might be the right choice if you like to travel light. The backpack has multiple pockets to store items and keep your things organized while traveling and has a convenient handle on top if you don’t want to put it on your back while walking around. The finished size of the backpack is 14”x12”6”.
- Divide and Conquer
This pattern is perfect for those who like to organize their belongings while traveling. There are two size options for you and optional straps for carrying. You could use this bag for toiletries, makeup, craft supplies, electronics, kid’s toys, etc.
- Townsend Travel Bag
This beautiful bag can be made using the Townsend Travel Bag sewing pattern. You can tell the designer pays attention to detail by the professional finishes of this bag. Adding the train case bottom is a massive bonus if you need to bring shoes or other bulky items with you. You can use it for an overnight bag, carry-on, diaper bag, or gym bag, to name a few options. The final measurements of this bag are 16”x13”x6”.
I hope you enjoyed this group of travel bag patterns. I want to make a complete set of luggage for my next trip! How about you? Which bag was your favorite? Let me know in the comments below.
Happy Stitching!

How to Sew a Travel Gear Bag in Three Sizes
Do you like creative stitching projects that can be made in an evening or less? You’re in for a treat! In part two of the TV series, Travel Gear Made Easy , this week’s featured online video , guest Mary Mulari teaches how to quickly stitch travel gear for everyday travel or extended trips. Mary knows all about travel, but even more about making travel easy. Watch the second episode by clicking here . (If you missed the first show, watch by clicking here .)
In part two of the TV show , and in her book , Mary shares her easy zipper technique for the hidden zipper used to make the Travel Trio Bag Set (pictured above). The clever recessed zipper adds style to this collection of bags.
A few weeks after Mary and I recorded the Travel Gear Made Easy series, she sent me a package. Inside was my very own Travel Trio Bag Set. Aren’t the fabrics delightful?
Mary designed these bags for carrying electronic components, jewelry, or makeup. Plus, they nest together for gift-giving and for easy storage.
Mary’s here today with a guest blog posting on how to create these nesting bags in three sizes:
- 5″ x 7″
- 8″ x 10″
- 9″ x 13″
- 1/2 yd. fabric (outer fabric and lining)
- One 3″ fabric strips (contrasting zipper frame)
- One 2″ x 3″ fabric square (contrasting zipper frame)
- 1/2 yd. medium weight interfacing
- 15″ Designer Renaissance Ribbon 3/8″ wide (5″ per bag)
- Optional: 3″ length of ribbon per bag for zipper pull
- Zippers- to be adjusted for each bag width
- 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge
- Cut one bag outer fabric, one lining, and one interfacing to these dimensions:
- 9″ small bag = 9″ x 12″
- 11″ medium bag = 11″ x 16″
- 14″ large bag = 14″ x 18″
Construction
- Fuse interfacing to wrong side of the bag outer fabric.
- Pin the wrong side of the lining to the interfaced side of the outer fabric.
- Zigzag or serge the two long edges.
- Measure, using the sliding gauge , and cut two 2-1/2″ lengths of ribbon, PER BAG.
- Fold each ribbon in half, matching wrong sides.
- Position the folded ribbon 1″ from the cut edge. Baste ribbon to the outer fabric. Add ribbon to right and left sides.
- Fold the bag in half with right sides together, meeting top edges.
- Sew side seams with 1/4″ seam allowances.
- Form a triangle at the bottom corners of the seams.
- Mark across the triangle 1″ for small bag, 2″ for medium bag, and 3″ for large bag. (Large bag is shown.)
- Pin and sew across marked lines to create boxed corners.
Prepare and Apply the Zipper
- Press the zipper flat.
- Measure the zipper length needed (2″ shorter than the bag width).
- Trim the zipper.
- Use a wide zigzag stitch, with a zero stitch length, to bartack over the zipper teeth at the cut end.
- Cut a 2″ x 3″ contrasting fabric strips
- Fold the strip in half. Open.
- Meet the cut edges to the center foldline.
- Wrap the narrow folded fabric around the cut end of the zipper.
- Stitch across the zipper end. Note: Be careful not to stitch over the metal zipper stop in the event you didn’t need to trim it.
- Cut two 3″ fabric strips (2-1/2″ for small bags) for each side of the zipper, the same length as the width of the bag. For example, 11″ strips for the medium size bag.
- Press the strips in half, matching wrong sides.
- Pin the fabric folded edges to the right side of the zipper tape, leaving an extra 1″ beyond each end of the zipper.
- Fold over and pin the excess tape at the top end of the zipper to the fabric strip.
- Switch to a zipper presser foot.
- Using left or right needle position, sew each folded fabric strip to the zipper, moving the zipper head away from the presser foot if necessary.
- Meet the right sides of the zipper strips at the corners. Pin together.
- Mark 1/4″ from the cut edges and taper toward the zipper at both ends.
- Stitch the marked tapered line on both ends.
- Trim the seam allowances to 1/4″.
- Press short seams open.
- Press bag side seams open.
- With bag inside out and zipper open, meet the right side of the zipper unit to the right side of the bag. Align and pin the side seams of the zipper unit and the bag.
- Extend the fabric triangle of the zipper unit 1/4″ above the bag edge. Pin all edges together.
- Sew around bag top edge using a 1/4″ seam allowance.
- Trim seam allowance with a pinking shears to eliminate bulk, especially at the side seams.
- Turn bag right side out. Press the zipper unit inside the bag. Pin.
- Topstitch 1/8″ from the folded top edge of the bag. Sew Slowly over side seams where fabrics are thicker.
- Tie an additional 3″ length of ribbon to the zipper pull.
- The first nesting bag is finished!

Can’t wait to try making some of these. Such cute bags!
I like the fold up tote idea. I always forget to bring my reusable grocery bags into the store with me so I will be making one to keep in my purse.
Margaret LaVenia
Like seeing updated travel items. I have Mary’s first book on Travel Gear and have used it a lot. Like the new colors and finishes on bags!
Lisa Garrett
I love these bags! Can’t wait to make some!
Travel time is coming up. Need to make some bags for cosmetics and medicine.
I have made some of your travel bags from one of your books for a gift for my sister’s birthday. She loved them. Thanks for this pattern and instructions and video. I look forward to making these for gifts for family and friends. Blessings!!! Sue
I really like the travel trio bags as these would make great gifts and can be personalized for each by the fabric selection and labels.
Love these bags – hoping I can get some made for gifts and myself.
marcia mcnamara
Love the drawstring bag!
The travel trio bag set is my favorite, especially that zipper technique. Thanks for sharing!
My favorite project is the small tote. It would be wonderful to carry my electronic items and their cords. (What good is your cell phone if you forget to take your charger?) Wonderful zipper tips for the bags as well. Makes the dreaded zipper a breeze. Thanks so much.
I like how the fit inside each other for storage
I love the travel trio bag set!
Connie Taylor
Exactly what I have been looking for. Like you were reading my mind!
The small tote is great and my travel scale would fit nicely in it!! I can’t wait to make one! Thank you for the giveaway!
Thanks for the great idea for travel…I was just thinking I needed a new bag for cosmetics and the zipper looks so quick and easy. Love it.
I have always loved this book, but I’ve never owned it. I made my own version of the travel blanket using Mary’s as my guide, and the young girl I gave it to loved it. If I won this wonderful book, I’d make every single thing in there! You simply cannot have enough little zipper bags!
I made the three travel bag sets for each of my young nieces so they could travel in style when they come to visit. They really enjoy them. Now my sister wants a set. They make a great gift.
Karen payton
Mary’s jewelry pouch is so cute! The whole set would be fun to sew and give as gifts!
I’m going on a cruise next winter, lots of great ideas to use. Think I like the fold away tote, great way to bring home those extra little goodies you collect while traveling! Great ideas!
So many wonderful projects! My favorites are the nesting bags and the fold up tote. Thanks for the great giveaway.
Love love love the trio of bags! A new favorite for gifting!!!
I really like the travel trio set and can think of a lot of people who would enjoy getting these as a gift!
Margaret (Peggy) C
Thank you once again for a project so easy to follow step by step, that means a great deal to me as I am a show me how please. I can do it then!
Have been wanting to do these bags for a long time – the book would be a great addition to the email instructions!
Sherry Bartlett
The nesting travel bags are wonderful! I want to make them for gifts, but I also want a set for myself. Would love to win the book!
I love the nesting bags – not just for travel.
I’m looking at the nesting bags as perfect gifts
Louise Johnson
I made the name/identifier tie-on from the original time you presented this episode. I love it! My pretty calling card shows, but my info does not. Also it is really easy to see which piece of luggage is mine on the carousel at the airport. I made two of the travel trays from leftover quilted fabric from my luggage saddlebag. It was a little more work to finish the edges but fun to have the matching items. My husband really misses his if we forget them so I store them inside our packing cubes. I think I will have to make more of these simple projects for our future travels. As usual Mary gives us simple-to-sew but fun and useful projects. Thank you!
Would love to make the nesting bags. A woman never has too many bags
The graduated sizes of travel bags are terrific gifts for anyone, any age! Would like to have the book for more projects!
Excellent instructions and wonderful pictures! You make it look so easy and will definitely keep me busy. What a wonderful way to use some of my stash!
Tammy Kazmierczak
I love the nesting bags. I can’t wait to try my hand at the recessed zipper. I’ve been wondering how that was done.
I like these bags. One for meds, one for cosmetics and one for personal items. Prefect for traveling and easy to locate when in a hurry if made out of pretty fabrics. It would be nice to win the book.
what great ideas. These would make perfect graduation gifts or retirement gifts for those who plan to travel. Am anxious to make the first one for my own travels. 🙂
Linda Morales
I would love to sew these items and these would make great gifts. I identify my luggage with masking tape around the handle and needs to be changed at times.
I love how they stack for storage!
The 8 x 10 travel bag size is so versatile. It’s the best.
I like the zippered travel bags. The zipper insertion appears to be simple.
I like the organizer tray. What a good way to keep small items organized on a hotel dresser! I learned something very important watching to the travel gear demos. I have an abandoned laminated fabric project because I did not know about Teflon non-stick and roller presser feet. With this knowledge, I can finally tackle finishing it.
I loved the refresher on sewing zippers with Nancy and Mary! Why do I still shy away from this? My favorite piece is the round jewelry holder and making the inside with mesh is great so you can see what’s in each pocket!
Since I am recently retired, I have started traveling more for pleasure. I can’t wait to make the zippered bags…or maybe first the folding tote so I can always be ready when I drop by the store…or maybe the tray, for when I’m preparing to leave (and won’t forget something) as well as corralling everything once I get there. Well, same wonderful problem as always: which project is FIRST? Thanks Nancy and Mary!
Kimberly Hubbard
Unfortunately I do not travel much. But I am a hospice nurse and travel to patient homes and these nesting bags would be perfect for carrying wound supplies and other tools of the trade. Great project! I love it!
I really like the zipper bags. So easy and quick to make. Thanks
Diann Weier
I have made lots of quilts from your programs including the fabric blackboard from years ago.
I love the three zippered nesting bags! You can never have enough cute bags! I plan on making my 20 something a set in fishing style fabric.
Who doesn’t love to travel? These bags make terrific gifts for everybody and that includes me!
Love this tutorial! Trying the nesting bags now. However, you don’t mention when to sew on the second 2×3 piece onto the zipper. I am assuming you do before you sew the 3″ strips onto the zipper. Here’s hoping.
Nancy Zieman
Good catch! You do only need one square at the end of the zipper. You will need two 3″ rectangles on the right and left sides of the zipper. I’ll make that change right now. Thanks for the heads up; you are on the right track.

Create your perfect travel bag! Grab a copy of the pattern to get started!
This duffle bag is designed for quick trips and weekends away. The size used in the pattern is specifically designed to fit the requirements for “personal” cabin luggage for Ryanair airline (correct at time of publishing). It’s also just a great standard size for a weekend bag. (“Duffle” is the British spelling for “duffel”).
This pattern is suitable for brave beginners, but I wouldn’t suggest it for your first ever try at bag making.
The pattern includes a “customise the size” page which details how to customise the bag size to your exact requirements. A blank cutting chart is also provided for you to fill out with the results of your calculations. All the calculations are provided, but you will need to do the maths. This option is only suitable for those who are comfortable working with maths and following detailed instructions. If not, we recommend sticking to the standard pattern size.
Fabric Recommendations:
This duffle bag can be made using a wide variety of materials such as cotton, canvas, cork, vinyl or leather. Whatever fabric you choose, be sure that your sewing machine can handle a lot of layers. The handles are sewn through all the layers so for domestic sewing machines, I recommend using cotton fabrics for both the exterior and lining fabrics.
Finished size:
15 1/4″ wide x 9 1/4″ tall x 7 1/4″ deep (39cm x 24cm x 19cm), but the pattern includes a “customise the size” page which details how to customise the bag size to your exact requirements!
Bag features:
- Handy grab handles
- Exterior pocket to fit a passport and other essentials
- Adjustable crossbody strap
- A quick and fun sew
- Perfect for weekends away
Hardware kits:

This is NOT a finished bag. This is a digital duffle bag sewing pattern to download and print at home to help you create your own bag. This digital file is for your personal use only and is not to be shared or reproduced. See full terms and conditions.
————————————————————————————————————————–
This is rated as a beginner friendly pattern, suitable for those with some sewing experience but not necessarily bag making experience.
For printing at home, please use the letter paper file if you’re in the USA or Canada, or the A4 file for everywhere else. The A0 file is for projector and print shop use only and is not compatible with a standard home printer.
This is a PDF digital sewing pattern in English available for instant download. See the “DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS” page for details on how to download your pattern after purchase.
This duffle bag pattern is written using both imperial (inches) and metric (centimetres) measurements.
Acrylic templates for this pattern are available to purchase directly from the manufacturers, Kallosphere in the UK and ARC Expressions in the USA.
Included in the photos are bags made by our pattern testers. Please be aware that some of the testers have made small modifications to their bags. Instructions for these modifications are not included in the pattern but are simply there to provide ideas on how you could adapt the pattern if you want to.

Gifted With Love Bag
April 17, 2022 By A Spoonful of Sugar - Leave a Comment
Mothers Day is fast approaching but there is still time to make Mum a a personalised gift. What I love about making gift bags/pouches, is that it is like giving two gifts in one. You have special eco-friendly gift packaging, plus a lovely gift inside. This Gifted with Love Bag is fun to make and features a foundation paper pieced heart on the front.
I made this Gifted with Love bag using the newly released Sarah Kay with Love Fabric by Devonstone Collections for Two Green Zebras. The sweet pastel coloured fabrics are perfect for this project. I added a Sarah Kay with Love Quilt Label to the bag – which makes this bag a sweet gift bag, complete with gift message.
If you are new to foundation paper piecing, this is a good project to start with. The FPP heart is easy to create and is a fun way to build your skills in foundation paper piecing (FPP).
Check out the lovely small scale florals, geometrics, stripes, and dots in the Sarah Kay with Love collection.
You can find the Gifted with Love Pouch PDF Sewing Pattern in our Pattern Store and Etsy Shop . It is available for immediate download.

Learn how to sew a zipper pouch! Here are 45 of my favorite free zipper pouch patterns so you can choose the perfect one. These free sewing tutorials have step-by-step instructions with pictures in an easy-to-understand teaching style. If the pattern requires a template, it’s included to download for free.
A zipper pouch is the perfect sewing project for beginners. You’ll learn many easy ways to sew a zipper and make a lined pouch that is great for holding change, earbuds, cosmetics, jewelry, your phone, and more.
These free sewing patterns are organized, for the most part, from easy to challenging. Because the instructions are so great, I think any sewist with little experience can successfully sew even the ones near the end of the list!
Tiny Zipper Bags from 5” Squares
This is the most simple zipper pouch tutorial on the web, and to make it even easier for you, you can use pre-cut 5” squares (charm squares)! If you want a fast and easy gift or pouch for yourself, check out the Tiny Zipper Bags tutorial right now. It’s perfect for scraps too!
Easy Zipper Pouches in 2 Sizes
The easy Zipper Pouch Pattern in 2 sizes is perfect for a beginner. I’ll show you how to use your sewing machine’s zipper foot in several ways. This lined zipper pouch with tabs is so customizable – you can even add machine embroidery to make it personalized. You can also use regular dressmaking zippers (1” wide) or larger handbag zippers (with a width of 1 1/4”).
Boxy Zipper Pouches
This Boxy Zipper Pouch Pattern is easy for beginners and just right for organizing supplies, cosmetics, or small things when traveling. Thrill any of your friends with this beautiful gift. It utilizes a foam stabilizer to make it sturdy and has two small exterior pockets. The finished size is approximately 6’’ wide, 4 1/2’’ tall, and 3” deep.
Pro tip: If you make many projects with zippers, you will love zippers by the yard . You can cut any size zipper you need, or a little bit larger than you need so you can cut away the excess zipper later.
Designer Zipper Bags
Normally, a quilted zipper bag with binding on the inside would not be something a beginner would try, but many sewists who are just starting have raved about the Designer Zipper Bag video sewing course. Not only is it free, but you’ll learn lots of sewing skills by watching videos like:
- How to quilt fabric and stabilizer together
- Choosing the best needle
- Putting on a zipper presser foot
- Binding the ends of zippers
- Lining up the edge of the zipper with your quilted fabric
- Binding your seams and more!
Double Sided Pouch
This fun and easy double-sided pouch was intended to hold face masks, but since no one likes them anymore, I’ve found more ways to use it. You will, too!
Lay Flat Zipper Bags for Travel
When not being used, these storage pouches lay flat and can be folded up very small. But don’t limit them to shoes. You can put almost anything in them, making them perfect for travel or gift-giving. This project has no side seams, and the top and bottom edges are finished with binding.
Don’t be afraid to make your own fabric binding featured in some of these tutorials! I’ll show you the easiest way to bind fabric edges and seams. It gives all your pouches and small bags a professional touch.
Necktie Zipper Pouch
It can be tricky thinking of gifts to sew for a man, but how about a zipper pouch sewn from a beloved tie ? Make treasured gifts from grandpa’s old ties.
Car Visor Organizer
Add a few extra features to your bland zipper pouch, and you have a Car Visor Organizer !

My kids are teenagers and young adults, but they still love the drawstring backpacks I make. This backpack with a zippered pocket is especially handy for travel.
Candy Zipper Pouches
Zipper pouches made from candy packages were popular before and are now in style again! Some preparation is necessary to make the candy package suitable for sewing, but after that it can make a sturdy pouch or small bag.
Travel Jewelry Organizer
Travel handmade with this beautiful jewelry organizer that you can sew with just 3 fat quarters!

Quilted iPad Case
Did you know you can sew your own padded iPad Case ? This pattern is especially easy if you have already taken the free Designer Zipper Bag video course I linked to previously. In those videos, I show you how to bind the seam allowances (as you see in the picture) in great detail.
DIY Scarf with a Phone Pocket
What’s better than a cozy fleece scarf? A cozy fleece scarf with a cell phone pocket ! This one has a money pocket, too, that is not see-through like the phone pocket.
Phone Case and Card Wallet
This zipper pouch is also a cardholder, phone pouch, and wallet! Don’t miss the DIY Phone Case and Wallet Pattern .
Yarn Project Bag
Take your crochet and knitting projects on the go with a Yarn Project Pouch (or bag) ! If you don’t make yarn crafts, I bet you know someone who does.
Tiny Zipper Pouches You Can Sew with Scraps
You have so many options when sewing this DIY zippered coin purse . Make one with leftover fabrics and no extra hardware or fussy cut a cute motif from your fabric like this pink Tula Pink raccoon pouch.
Pro tips: I love all the new handbag zippers you can get on Amazon now with pretty zipper pulls! This pouch has fusible interfacing to help it hold that cute shape.
Long Pencil Pouches
The construction techniques on this Long Pencil Pouch Pattern are different than what you might have seen before. I streamlined the number of steps by fusing craft felt to the wrong side of the pretty cotton fabric to create a stable layer that would not need a lining.
You can also use cork fabric, vinyl, or marine vinyl instead of the outer fabric and skip the felt stabilizer.
Double Sided Zips
The Double-Sided Zip Pattern is a popular lined zipper pouch tutorial. You can use this pouch for so many purposes! The zipper tabs are perfect for attaching to a key chain. The seam allowances on this pouch are hidden inside the lining (not bound).
Pro tip: The topstitching on items like this helps keep the lining pieces from getting caught in the zipper teeth. Lengthen your sewing machine stitches for a pretty look.
Chapstick Holder
Cold, dry winters make your lips chapped! This cute chapstick holder helps keep lip balm handy all the time.
Pillbox Pouch
The Pillbox Pouch has a boxy and flat shape, but don’t let its 1” depth fool you… it can hold a lot of stuff! In this one, I stuffed a bunch of small Aurifil thread spools.
Christmas Stocking Zipper Pouch
Here’s a free sewing pattern to use up all those cute holiday scraps! This little Christmas stocking zipper pouch is just the right size for a handful of treats – plus , it makes a great gift card holder.
Best Zipper Pouch Patterns for Back to School or Work
This easy zipper pouch sewing pattern with a clip on the side has so many purposes that I’ll never be able to count them all. Clip one on a backpack with pencils and school supplies. Clip another to your bag to hold your phone. Then sew another to hold your hand-sewing kit while on road trips!
Zipper Pouch for a 3-Ring Binder
Sew up a cute pencil pouch that fits in a 3-ring binder. You can make one BETTER than the pencil pouches they sell in the store. You only need a little fabric, a zipper, and some leftover vinyl.
3-Ring Zipper Pouch with Grommets
Here, I’ll show you how to do a mash-up of the previous two patterns to make a 3-ring binder pencil pouch with grommets and mesh (or vinyl)!
Slide Down Pencil Pouch
Sew a Stand Up (and slide down) Pencil and Tool Pouch ! This handy zipper pouch extends tall to hold pens, pencils, scissors, and other items. Then, when you need to use it, the top slides down for easy access.
Zola Pen Case
When the Zola Pen Case is unzipped, it opens all the way so you can see all your stuff! When it is zipped, it makes a cute little rectangular box. The end of the zipper snaps to the bottom of the case to make the handle. This pattern includes a free downloadable template.
Chubby Lunch Tote
Lunch will be more fun with the adorable Chubby Lunch Tote ! The finished dimensions of this tote are approximately 7” tall (not including the handles), 8” wide, and 6” deep (front to back). It’s a great size to carry your lunch, but that doesn’t mean that it has to be a lunch bag. You can just as easily substitute fusible fleece for the insulated batting and use it as a small purse or zippered container.
Zipper Pouches that are Also a Purse!
This bigger Boxy Zipper Bag Pattern can be made with or without bag hardware. Add handles to make a purse or D-rings and a strap to make a cross-body bag.
Triple Zipper Bag
The Triple Zipper Bag has three zippers on the exterior, plus another zipper on a coin pocket inside. Of course, if you don’t want to use it like a bag, you can leave off the tabs and strap.
Easy Zipper Bag Using Fabric Strips
Sew a cute zipper bag using 2 1/2″ jelly roll strips! The size is perfect for carrying your phone and wallet. But I must admit that as soon as I had sewn the first one for myself, my 8-year-old daughter Cadie took it for herself! I had to make a couple more so every girl in the house could have one.
Can you believe these are back in style again? Sew your own fanny pack (a.k.a. hip bag, sling bag, waist wallet, belt bag) with two zippered compartments using your favorite fabric and the same easy sewing techniques that I have used on my other patterns.
Clamshell Pouch
Do you want a beautiful bag or a fancy purse? This free Clamshell Bag Pattern helps you make both!
What happens when you add handles and pockets to a zipper pouch? You get the Tiny Zipper Bag ! All your favorite fabric scraps are screaming to be sewn into a super cute tiny bag!
Organizing and Decorating Your Home
You’ll love this tutorial for a boxy pouch or cosmetic case that opens nice and wide for filling – and then you can snap down the cute corners!
Twice as Nice Zippered Organizer
Sew a double-sided pouch to help you organize your makeup, sewing and craft items, art supplies, travel necessities, and more! This zippered case has two angled compartments that hold more than they appear to. Plus, the inside of the pockets is sewn with vinyl, so you can easily see what’s inside.
Dumpling Style Zipper Pouch
Here’s another dumpling-style zipper pouch that’s the perfect size for sewing supplies, cosmetics, or pens and pencils. It has a flat bottom to help it stand up. The zipper ensures that your things are kept securely.
This pattern (like most of the free sewing patterns on this page) is fat quarter-friendly!
Fabric and Vinyl Project Bags
This zippered bag with a vinyl front is perfect for organizing your hand-sewing work, unfinished quilt blocks, or embroidery projects to take on the go. My quilted handle technique is new – you won’t see it elsewhere! Don’t miss the free Project Pouch Pattern.
Pretty Box Pouch
This Pretty Box Pouch is perfect for holding and organizing cosmetics, sewing supplies, jewelry, small toys, crayons, chocolate candies, and more!
I would rate this project ‘intermediate level’ for a sewist who is comfortable using the zipper foot on her/his machine and has hopefully applied binding before (the binding is probably the trickiest part).
Mesh Wash Bag
Bras and underwear last much longer if you put them in a mesh wash bag before the washing machine. Let me show you how easy it is to make one!
Bean Bag Toy Holder
The biggest zippered item in your home can hold stuffed animals and be used as a bean bag chair !
Sturdy Storage Tote
Another way to make a zipper pouch big enough for home storage is the DIY Sturdy Storage Tote . I keep towels and quilts inside these in my closet.
DIY Pool Chair Cover with Pocket Pouches
Sew a couple of pouches, add them to a pool towel, and you get a DIY Pool Chair Cover ! This is one of my favorite projects because it is just so clever.
DIY Garment Bag
I had more ideas for this post, but I wasn’t sure if a really big project could still be called a pouch. Like a pretty DIY garment bag ? Or a big, easy tote ? You tell me!

Moscow Holiday Packages
What makes Moscow worth a visit are it's colorful and remarkable structures and the warmth of the inviting capital city. Have a tour of the city which is generally known as the ‘Fire Square’.
Best time to visit
In summers, Moscow generally offers a warm climate along with a little downpour. It is a great time to roam around the city in light, cotton clothes and witness many exciting tourist attractions around you. A tour to the Red Square, St. Basil Cathedral, and Kolomenskoye museum on a nice sunny day would be perfect in Moscow city.
The New Year’s Eve in Moscow’s winter is a great deal and is worth witnessing in a visit to the Russian capital. Many games, contests, and Russian cultural traditions take place in Red Square area every year while it is covered in snow. Make sure to pack loads of warm clothes to beat the freezing temperature while you give a tour to Moscow during winters.
Best Way to reach
The one and only way to reach Moscow from India is by air. There are 5 airports in Moscow city out of which 3 are connected to international airports of cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, and Bengaluru through flights.

Moscow, like other international urban areas , is decentralizing, despite considerable barriers. The expansion will lead to even more decentralization, which is likely to lead to less time "stuck in traffic" and more comfortable lifestyles. Let's hope that Russia's urban development policies, along with its plans to restore population growth, will lead to higher household incomes and much improved economic performance.

Note 1: The 23 ward (ku) area of Tokyo is the geography of the former city of Tokyo, which was abolished in the 1940s. There is considerable confusion about the geography of Tokyo. For example, the 23 ward area is a part of the prefecture of Tokyo, which is also called the Tokyo Metropolis, which has led some analysts to think of it as the Tokyo metropolitan area (labor market area). In fact, the Tokyo metropolitan area, variously defined, includes, at a minimum the prefectures of Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba and Saitama with some municipalities in Gunma, Ibaraki and Tochigi. The metropolitan area contains nearly three times the population of the "Tokyo Metropolis."
Note 2: The expansion area (556 square miles or 1,440 square kilometers) has a current population of 250,000.
Note 3: Includes all residents in suburban districts with at least part of their population in the urban area.
Note 4: Urban area data not yet available.

Road in city area.
The roads and ways of the city areas are very clumsy and many accidents are happening due to the short road. But you need to maintain the driving properly otherwise you may face accident. So now the government decided to expand the road which may put the positive effect on automobile sector. I think it is a helpful service for the society people. If you have a BMW car and you have faced any problem then better to repair it at BMW Repair Spring, TX for the best service.
Transit & transportation
Transit and transportation services are quite impressive in most of the urban cities; therefore people were getting better benefits from suitable transportation service. Urban cities like Moscow, Washington, New York and Tokyo; we have found high margin of transportation system that helps to build a better communication network in these cities. I hope through the help of modern transportation system we are able to bring revolutionary change in automobile industries; in this above article we have also found the same concepts to develop transportation system. Moscow is bursting Noblesse at the seams. The core city covers more than 420 square miles (1,090 kilometers), and has a population of approximately 11.5 million people. With 27,300 residents per square mile (10,500 per square kilometer), Moscow is one percent more dense than the bleach anime watch city of New York, though Moscow covers 30 percent more land. The 23 ward area of Tokyo (see Note) is at least a third more dense, though Moscow's land area is at least half again as large as Tokyo. All three core areas rely

Russians seeing the light while Western elites are bickering?
What an extremely interesting analysis - well done, Wendell.
It is also extremely interesting that the Russian leadership is reasonably pragmatic about urban form, in contrast to the "planners" of the post-rational West.
An acquaintance recently sent me an article from "The New Yorker", re Moscow's traffic problems.
The article "abstract" is HERE (but access to the full article requires subscription)
http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2010/08/02/100802fa_fact_gessen
One classic quote worth taking from it, is: "People will endure all manner of humiliation to keep driving".
I do find it odd that the "New Yorker" article author says nothing at all about the rail transit system Moscow had, on which everyone was obliged to travel, under Communism. It can't surely have vaporised into thin air?
Moscow is a classic illustration of just how outmoded rails are, and how important "automobility" is, when the auto supplants rails so rapidly than even when everybody did travel on rails up to a certain date, and the road network dates to that era, when nobody was allowed to own a car; an article written just 2 decades later does not even mention the rail transit system, other than to criticise the mayor for "failing to invest in a transit system".......!!!!!!!!
This is also a give-away of "The New Yorker's" inability to shake off the modern PC ideology on rails vs cars.

Diddy's private jet tracked to caribbean island amid raids in u.s., diddy loveair private jet tracked amid raids down on caribbean island.
Diddy 's homes were raided in the U.S. to kick off the week -- but the guy's own private jet is miles away in a completely different nation ... although it's unclear if he's aboard himself.
TMZ has tracked Diddy's personal LoveAir LLC jet -- the well-known black Gulfstream 5 that Diddy has flaunted and flown for years now -- and it looks like the aircraft is currently on the ground in Antigua ... which is down in the Caribbean.
Based on the flight activity, viewed by TMZ, Diddy's jet has been up and down California between Sunday and Monday -- taking off from Sacramento Executive Airport Sunday evening around 5:30 PM PT and landing at Palm Springs Int'l Airport about an hour later.
An hour after that, around 7:30 PM PT, Diddy's jet took off from Palm Springs yet again and landed at Van Nuys Airport, which is in the L.A. area, about 30 minutes later around 8:00 PM PT. Around 9 AM PT Monday, the jet took off from Van Nuys airport and landed at some point in Antigua.
The plane is currently grounded there, although the flight data has yet to update and register him as having officially landed. In any case, it's definitely Diddy's jet ... no question.
The only thing that remains unanswered is whether Diddy is on the plane -- we don't have any evidence he is at this point ... and we also don't know what's happening on the scene.
As we reported ... two of Diddy's homes, in L.A. and MIami, were swarmed by federal law enforcement agencies Monday -- and armed officials stormed the properties, taking some people into custody ... including his sons Justin and King . Unclear if any arrests took place.
The raids are believed to have stemmed from accusations hurled at Diddy in multiple lawsuits -- which have touched on alleged human and sex trafficking, among other claims ... all of which he's vehemently denied.
We've reached out to Diddy's rep and lawyers ... so far, no word back.
