Review: This mophie 3-in-1 is the quintessential travel charger for iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods

Avatar for Michael Potuck

Last month we saw mophie unveil a sharp-looking 3-in-1 official MagSafe travel charger that seemed like the perfect solution for powering up iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods on the go. Spoiler alert, after testing it out for the last few weeks, it’s as fantastic as we hoped. Read on for all the details about why the mophie 3-in-1 is the best iPhone travel charger out there.

mophie 3-in-1 travel charger specs

  • Official MagSafe for iPhone with 15W fast wireless charging
  • 3.3 ft (1m) USB-C cable and 30W power adapter included
  • Neatly stows in felt travel case
  • Dedicated charging for iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods
  • Black and gray design
  • Priced at $149.95

Materials and design

The mophie 3-in-1- travel charger features both a wonderful design and use of materials. First up, the felt travel case is simple and well made. It has separate spots for the charger, power adapter, and cable so it’s dead simple to stay organized and keep you from misplacing any parts.

Here’s a closer look at the travel charger when folded. It features a super-soft (but durable) gray and black exterior with magnets keeping it closed when stored.

Best iPhone travel charger - mophie 3-in-1 - unboxed

I really love the design is mostly black and gray on the inside as well (except for the official MagSafe for iPhone and MFi Apple Watch chargers). Compared to Apple’s all-white MagSafe Duo, the mophie 3-in-1 will stay much cleaner over time.

Best iPhone travel charger - mophie 3-in-1 - unfolded

The official MagSafe charger features a soft silicone (or rubber) finish so it won’t mark up or scratch your iPhone or a nice case. Another thoughtful touch is the MagSafe charger sitting a bit above the base which means the large camera bump on the iPhone 13 lineup doesn’t cause any issues.

Best iPhone travel charger - mophie 3-in-1 - backside

The included USB-C cable plugs in just behind the Apple Watch charger to power the whole setup.

Taking into account the whole package, the build quality feels great and mophie includes a two-year warranty with the 3-in-1 travel charger.

What makes it the best iPhone travel charger?

I’ve really enjoyed my time with the 3-in-1 travel charger . When mophie first unveiled it, my colleague Chance Miller said it looked like what Apple’s MagSafe Duo should have been and after using it, I fully agree. It’s more capable, the design is on-point, and you get a travel case with included cable and power adapter (MagSafe Duo at $129 doesn’t include the power adapter).

The convenience with the mophie 3-in-1 travel charger stands out as its biggest perk. Instead of having to pack three cables or more, you’ve got one tidy carrying case that packs 15W MagSafe charging for iPhone, an Apple Watch charger that supports nightstand mode, and a place to juice up your AirPods.

Best iPhone travel charger - mophie 3-in-1 - in-use

Along with that, you only need access to one outlet to charge up your devices since the 3-in-1 travel charger powers everything with a single 30W (included) power adapter.

Even with fantastic products, I usually have a few constructive pieces of criticism but that’s not the case here. I can’t think of any way to improve the 3-in-1 travel charger, mophie’s really knocked it out of the park.

It seamlessly charges up iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods with a top-notch and portable design, thoughtful travel case, and everything you need is included – looking at you Apple MagSafe Duo – making it the quintessential travel charger for Apple users.

The mophie 3-in-1 travel charger is available at Apple and direct from mophie with the latter usually offering 20% off .

Meanwhile, a slick companion to the best iPhone travel charger is mophie’s new portable magnetic stand , we’ll have a full review on that coming soon.

Apple MagSafe Duo Vs. Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger: A MagSafe iPhone Charger Showdown

Both are great — but it’s time to put them in the ring against one another.

wireless travel charger

The ideal travel charger for an iPhone user has to do a few simple things. First, it has to fully support MagSafe , so that wirelessly charges your iPhone (assuming it’s an iPhone 12 or later) as fast as possible, at up to 15 watts. Second, it has to be able to wirelessly charge our other Apple devices, because we don’t travel just with our iPhones. And third, it has to fold up nice and compact, so that it’s easier to pack.

Products in the Guide

Best Travel Charger for Apple Enthusiasts

Best All-in-One Travel Charger for iPhone

And there are really only two travel chargers that check those three boxes: Apple’s MagSafe Duo ($129) and Mophie’s 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe ($150) .

Both of these travel chargers can wirelessly charge multiple devices, they fully support MagSafe, and they both fold up nicely. The kicker is: Apple sells both. So what’s the difference? And which one is best?

two iphones on a desk

Mophie’s travel charger can charge more devices

wireless travel charger

The most obvious difference between Apple’s and Mophie’s travel chargers is the number of devices that they can charge. The MagSafe Duo can only charge two devices at a time, an iPhone and an Apple Watch or the new AirPods Pro; Mophie’s travel charger, meanwhile, can charge three. It has an extra Qi wireless charger specifically fitted for AirPods (so long as their case supports wireless charging).

Unfortunately, neither of these travel chargers has an extra ports for a wired charging connection (in case you wanted to charge a device the traditional non-wireless way). Also, neither can fast charge an Apple Watch (Series 7 or later) as they don’t have the updated charging puck. Which is a bit of a bummer.

Mophie’s travel charger comes with a wall adapter; Apple’s doesn’t

wireless travel charger

Another big difference between the two travel chargers is that Apple doesn’t include the necessarily wall adapter for it to work right out of the box. This isn’t an uncommon trait for the brand, as it’s part of a lot of big tech’s environmental initiative; Apple thinks people already have enough wall adapters at home, so a lot of today’s smartphones, headphones and other gadgets don’t come with one. Apple recommends pairing it with a 20-watt USB-C adapter — the same one used with an iPad Pro or iPad Air — which is going to cost you an extra $19.

Mophie includes a 30-watt USB-C adapter in the box with its travel charger, which is nice. It also evens the price between the two travel chargers; if you have to buy the wall adapter for the MagSafe Duo, then the two travel chargers are almost the exact same price.

Mophie’s travel charger comes with a carrying case

wireless travel charger

That’s right. As well as including the wall adapter, Mophie also includes a neat little travel case with little compartments to hold the charger, the cable (USB-C to USB-C) and the wall adapter. It’s made out of this felt material that looks and feels really nice (even if it is a little bit of a magnet for lint and pet hair).

All in all, it’s just a really simple yet thoughtful solution for keeping all your travel charger’s necessary components together. The MagSafe Duo, meanwhile, doesn’t come with any kind of travel case.

Apple’s travel charger feels a bit more premium

wireless travel charger

Both Apple’s and Mophie’s travel chargers feel well-made. They’re made out of soft-touch materials, and magnetically fold together in a way that feels really tight and neat. However, Apple just does it ever-so-better with the MagSafe Duo.

It has a stronger magnetic connection when it folds in on itself (not holding the iPhone via MagSafe, where the strength is about the same for both), and the silicone-like material feels a bit nicer. Also, when you open Mophie’s travel charger up, the inside is made plastic and is flimsy; it just feels a little less premium.

So, which MagSafe travel charger for iPhone is best?

wireless travel charger

Admittedly, there is no clear winner here — as it ultimately comes down to your personal taste and what you need. Mophie’s travel charger is probably the better value, even if it’s a little more expensive; the fact that it comes with the necessary power adapter more than makes up for that price difference, plus it can charge one extra device comes the carrying case is an unnecessary but more-than-welcome addition.

If you’re an Apple enthusiast, however, the MagSafe Duo is probably still going to be your go-to travel charger. It snaps together wonderfully, and feels nicer to the touch. Plus, the fact that the newest AirPods Pro can charge on the Apple Watch puck or the MagSafe charger — so you can use whichever spot is open — means that you likely won’t care as much not having the extra wireless charger.

Best MagSafe wireless chargers for iPhone 2024

Simon Jary

We’ve rounded up the best MagSafe, Qi2 and MagSafe-compatible magnetic chargers, from the plain pad to multi-functional (up to six devices charged) stands, and even the most colorful—from snap-on chargers and modular stands to foldable power bank and full desk mat.

Apple’s MagSafe technology, supported by all models of iPhone 12/13/14/15, presents a more efficient way of wirelessly charging compatible iPhones. MagSafe is the ring of magnets around the iPhone 12, 13, 14 and 15’s internal charging coil, which senses compatible accessories and magnetically snaps securely into the most efficient charging position with the right accessories. And you’re less likely to wake up to find your phone wasn’t correctly placed so didn’t charge at all!

Offering 15W power output, MagSafe charging is twice as fast merely compatible 7.5W magnetic wireless charging.

A new Qi2 standard , supported by the iPhone 13/14/15 family, now means that some non-MagSafe chargers are able to charge supporting phones at the full 15W—if they are certified for Qi2, of course. Qi2 is based on the same technology as Apple’s MagSafe so offers similar 15W speed charging.

We’ve started testing the new Qi2 chargers—read our Anker Qi2 MagGo 3-in-1 Charging Station review —and the Qi2 charging speeds are close enough to MagSafe’s to be regarded as identical.

Made for MagSafe and Qi2 certification logos

MagSafe or Qi2 certification

Apple certifies MagSafe accessories to ensures that the output charging is 15W, compared to non-certified but MagSafe-compatible chargers that are usually just 7.5W. Certified MagSafe chargers also have a single-wire NFC antenna that allows the iPhone to identify the device, a built-in magnetometer, and a compass to prevent interference while you are using your iPhone while it’s charging.

The new Qi2 certification means that such products should match MagSafe certification at a 15W charging speed.

In our tests, 15W Qi2 and 15W MagSafe chargers are evenly matched for charging speeds, and 7.5W MagSafe compatible chargers, as you might expect, take around twice as long—certainly in the early stages of charging.

Don’t rule out 7.5W chargers as they are often high quality and nearly always noticeably cheaper. “MagSafe compatible” is used widely to mean any accessory that includes a bunch of magnets.

Thankfully, Qi2 should greatly expand the number of fast 15W chargers and supporting devices, and we are seeing Qi2 chargers from power specialists such as Anker and ESR.

We have avoided the many cheap models found online and focused on the premium brands, while also including those that offer something different.

And, of course, the iPhone 12/13/14/15 models work with non-magnetic chargers, too; check out our roundup of the best wireless chargers for iPhone . We also have a round up of the Best MagSafe portable battery packs and power banks . And for many MagSafe chargers reviewed here you’ll likely still need a wall charger to power the—here’s our recommendations of the best iPhone chargers .

Multi-device magnetic chargers

The most basic form of MagSafe or magnetic charger is the simple pad that latches on to the compatible iPhone. Some pads feature a pop-out arm so the iPhone can be propped up while charging.

There are also products that can charge an iPhone and other Apple devices, such as an Apple Watch or wireless AirPods charging case, at the same time. Note that the AirPods case must be of the wireless variety, and the original AirPods case lacked this functionality. The base of a multi-charger could also be used to charge a second iPhone but mostly not magnetically and at 5W rather than 7.5W or 15W. Also see our round up of the Best Apple Watch chargers and stands .

We have tested a lot of magnetic chargers—MagSafe, Qi2 and Compatible—and here inform you which one will work best for you. There’s simple magnetic wireless chargers, multi-device chargers, travel chargers, car chargers and more.

Apple MagSafe Charger – Simple MagSafe charger if you must buy Apple

Apple MagSafe Charger – Simple MagSafe charger if you must buy Apple

  • Short cable
  • Cable charging is faster

Output charging : 15W (MagSafe)

Cable : 1m (3.3ft)

Wall charger : Not included

Colors : White

The most obvious MagSafe Charger to buy for your Apple iPhone is, of course, the Apple MagSafe Charger. It’s the charger that Apple would have shipped with the iPhone if it did such things anymore.

It’s as minimalist a design as you’d expect from Apple–it looks a lot like a giant Apple Watch Charger.

You can also use it to charge your AirPods.

Its main advantage over the non-certified competition is its 15W charging power. It’s still half as fast as using a Lightning or USB-C cable, however, and if you are going to the bother of connecting this product to a wall charger, why not just use a Lightning (iPhone 12/13/14) or USB-C (iPhone 15) cable? You can fast-charge an iPhone to 50% battery in under 30 minutes using a cable, while it takes around 50 minutes to wirelessly charge iPhone from 0 to 50% using even 15W MagSafe.

And the Apple MagSafe Charger is not perfect. It is too small and light to stay on the desk when you pick up your iPhone, making it a poor wireless charging pad. The 1m cable is far too short to comfortably charge and use your iPhone at the same time, or maybe stretch from a power socket to a nearby table.

Don’t forget that it still requires a USB-C wall charger—at least 20W recommended if you want the full 15W potential.

We think there are better MagSafe and MagSafe-compatible alternatives, so keep reading for our non-Apple recommendations.

Belkin Boost Up Charge Pro Wireless Charger Pad with MagSafe – Best simple MagSafe charger

Belkin Boost Up Charge Pro Wireless Charger Pad with MagSafe – Best simple MagSafe charger

  • Long, strong cable
  • More expensive than Apple charger!

Cable : 2m (6.6ft)

Colors : Black, White

Available in two predictable colors, the Belkin MagSafe Charger Pad is as fast as Apple’s Charger and comes with a longer cable and handy pop-up stand.

The cable is twice as long as Apple’s, which makes using the phone much easier when charging. It’s also thicker nylon-braided cable with a handy integrated silicone cable tie.

It is pricier than Apple, which is a surprise, so you’re paying a premium for the longer premium cable and the kickstand but we think it’s worth the extra if you must have a certified 15W MagSafe charger. Again, a straight cable connection will be faster but we like the kickstand, which you don’t get with a standard cable connection.

You can buy direct from Belkin with a 27W power adapter included or just on its own if you already have a wall charger to use.

Anker Qi2 MagGo Wireless Charger Pad – Best budget magnetic charger

Anker Qi2 MagGo Wireless Charger Pad – Best budget magnetic charger

  • Inexpensive

Output charging : 15W (Qi2)

Cable : 1.5m (5ft)

Another basic magnetic charger, Anker’s MagGo Wireless Charger Pad works just like the Apple and Belkin chargers, and also at a fast 15W—although it’s Qi2 rather than Apple MagSafe.

It works just as well, though, and is one of the cheaper premium magnetic chargers.

The cable is a decent length at 1.5m—half again as long as that on the Apple MagSafe Charger pad, but not as long as on the Belkin.

ESR HaloLock Kickstand Wireless Charger – Best budget magnetic charger with kickstand

ESR HaloLock Kickstand Wireless Charger – Best budget magnetic charger with kickstand

  • Color options

Output charging : 7.5W (Compatible)

Colors : White, Black, Blue, Pink

This is a small, simple magnetic charging pad that has a kickstand that lets you prop your attached iPhone 12/13/14/15 up either in landscape or portrait mode for video viewing or hands-free FaceTime calls.

The cable length is reasonable at 1.5m.

It’s available in four colors, so is wildly more flamboyant than the other magnetic wireless chargers tested here.

Twelve South HiRise 3 Deluxe – Best 3-in-1 magnetic charger to save desk space

Twelve South HiRise 3 Deluxe – Best 3-in-1 magnetic charger to save desk space

  • 3-in-1 charging
  • 15W for iPhone
  • Fast charge Watch
  • Includes charger
  • Only in black

Apple Watch fast charge: Yes

Wall charger : 40W AC power adapter

Colors : Black

A 3-in-1 charger that can re-power iPhone, AirPods and Watch is a boon for Apple fans, but most of the products we’ve tested take up quite a lot of desk space. The stylish HiRise 3 Deluxe, as its name suggests, goes more vertical and so has a smaller footprint—handy for bedside tables and other places where a giant charging stand is less welcome.

It is fully Apple certified, so can fast-charge any MagSafe iPhone (iPhone 12, 13, 14 or 15 models but not SE) at 15W as well as fast-charge an Apple Watch (Series 7, 8, 9, SE and Ultra) at 5W and Apple AirPods (2nd and 3rd generation AirPods, and all AirPods Pro) at 7.5W.

It’s 6 inches (15.4cm) high, 3.4in (8.5cm) wide and 6.3in (15.9cm) deep. In comparison, the Belkin 3-in-1 is 13.5cm wide. For an even smaller footprint, consider the OtterBox 3-in-1 Charging Station, reviewed below.

The MagSafe iPhone charger can angle and tilt by 35-degrees, and hold the device in either landscape or portrait—so works well in iOS 17’s StandBy mode .

The base charges at 7.5W and can be used to power up AirPods or a second iPhone, and the Watch part fast charges at 5W.

Journey Trio Ultra 3-in-1 Fast Wireless Charging Station – Fast 3-in-1 magnetic charger

Journey Trio Ultra 3-in-1 Fast Wireless Charging Station – Fast 3-in-1 magnetic charger

  • North America only

Cable : 1,5m (5ft)

Wall charger : 30W AC power adapter

This 3-in-1 charger for iPhone, Watch and AirPods has a small footprint, about the same size as the Twelve South HiRise 3 Deluxe reviewed above. It also matches that charging station in terms of charging speed. It’s fully certified for iPhone (so fast 15W) and Watch (fast 5W). Non-certified rivals will charge an iPhone at 7.5W and Watch at 3W. The lower charging pad is rated at 5W and can be used to charge your AirPods or a second phone, although not magnetically and much slower than the main MagSafe pad.

While this is an impressive 3-in-1 charger, we prefer the cheaper HiRise 3 Deluxe for its more flexible Watch charging module. It is a little taller, which some may prefer.

It does come in white, which might blend in with your environment better than the black-only HiRise.

It measures 6.7 inches high, 3.4in wide and 5.3in deep (16.9-x-8.6-x-13.4cm).

OtterBox 3-in-1 Charging Station with MagSafe – Fast 3-in-1 magnetic charger

OtterBox 3-in-1 Charging Station with MagSafe – Fast 3-in-1 magnetic charger

Wall charger : 36W AC power adapter

Colors : Black or White

This fast-charging 3-in-1 charger is a little smaller than even the Twelve South HiRise 3 Deluxe and Journey Trio Ultra, both reviewed above. It measures 5.6 inches high, and 4.6 inches both wide and deep (13.9-x-11.7-x-11.7cm).

It’s a great multi-device charger but is beaten by the other two fast 3-in-1 products, which both feature tiltable iPhone charging pads.

Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station (Foldable 3-in-1) – Best 3-in-1 travel wireless charger pad/stand

Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station (Foldable 3-in-1) – Best 3-in-1 travel wireless charger pad/stand

  • Includes 40W charger

Cable : 1.5 m (5ft)

Power specialist Anker is one of the first companies to release Qi2-compatible chargers, and the foldable Anker MagGo 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station is a great example of what we can expect from the latest technology.

It charges the iPhone (iPhone 13 and later) at 15W, and is also certified by Apple to fast-charge the Apple Watch, as well as Qi charge AirPods in a wireless charging case.

It is super compact, measuring about the length and width of a credit card (3.5×2.36 inches; 8.9×6cm) and an inch (2.5cm) deep, weighing 6.9oz (195g). The 5W Watch-charging module is tucked away on the underside (see above) and can lie flat or sit up at an angle for Nightstand mode.

The Qi2 pad raises to create a stand for your iPhone, in either portrait or landscape mode for StandBy mode. You can also charge an iPhone with the charger folded and the Qi2 pad on top. You need to unfold it only if you want to charge some AirPods or use the Qi2 pad as a stand.

There are certainly many cheaper 3-in-1 foldable chargers—for example, the $50 Kuxiu X55 3-In-1, reviewed below—but none at either 15W MagSafe or Qi2. You’ll also need to add a USB-C power supply to these cheaper 3-in-1 devices, while the Anker MagGo Charging Station ships with its own powerful 40W wall charger.

Twelve South ButterFly 2-in-1 MagSafe Charger – Best 2-in-1 travel MagSafe charger

Twelve South ButterFly 2-in-1 MagSafe Charger – Best 2-in-1 travel MagSafe charger

  • Charges Watch and iPhone and
  • Can swap Watch for AirPods
  • Small footprint
  • Currently U.S. only

Colors : Aluminum

Not content with making our favorite 3-in-1 iPhone/Watch/AirPods charger, the HiRise 3 Deluxe reviewed above, Twelve South has wowed us with this easily pocketable 2-in-1 charger that can handle iPhone and Apple Watch or iPhone and AirPods, charging two devices simultaneously.

It is fully Apple certified, so fast wirelessly charges the iPhone at 15W and the Watch at 5W. You can’t get faster wireless charging—note that wired charging is much faster for iPhones.

It’s a really clever, compact foldable size and offers MacBook-like styling. Unfurl the charger and the two wireless charging pads are revealed. You can fold 180 degrees and place the Watch in Nighstand mode. Flip it round, and you can set the iPhone in landscape StandBy mode.

Yes, it’s expensive but it does come with a super-compact 30W USB-C wall charger that comes with interchangeable international plug heads: US, UK, EU and AU/NZ.

Anker PowerWave Magnetic 2-in-1 Stand – Best budget 2-in-1 magnetic stand

Anker PowerWave Magnetic 2-in-1 Stand – Best budget 2-in-1 magnetic stand

  • 2-in-1 charging

Cable : 1.2 m (4ft)

Built to charge both an iPhone 12/13/14/15 and wireless AirPod case charger, the Anker PowerWave isn’t MFi certified and therefore doesn’t reach the 15W phone charging heights of the Apple.

Its 7.5W charging is fine if you have the time; if you’re in a real hurry you’d be better off using a cable than using a 15W certified MagSafe charger anyway.

The AirPods are charged at 5W, which is standard for all such multi-device magnetic chargers.

You get angled landscape and portrait modes with this good-looking stand from one of our favorite premium accessory makers.

The magnetic link is super strong so you don’t need to worry about the iPhone falling off even during re-angling.

Journey Rapid TRIO 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station – Best budget 3-in-1 magnetic charger

Journey Rapid TRIO 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station – Best budget 3-in-1 magnetic charger

  • Small profile
  • Detachable Watch charger
  • Not Watch fast charge

Apple Watch fast charge: No

The Journey Rapid Trio 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station, like the Twelve South HiRise 3 Deluxe, has a small footprint for such a multi-device charger. It’s only a tiny bit larger than the HiRise 3, at 16.9cm (6.7in) high, 13.3cm (5.3in) deep and 8.6cm (3.4in) wide.

It is similar in technical specifications to the Alogic MagSpeed 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station, reviewed below, but lays out its charging points differently. This charger’s horizontal footprint is smaller.

It has some tricks up its sleeve, as its detachable USB-C Apple Watch charger means you can take it with you on your travels and simply plug it into a USB-C port—say on your MacBook—to charge your Apple Watch away from the charging stand.

Like the HiRise 3 Deluxe, the phone charging part can also tilt, unlike the more static 3-in-1 chargers reviewed here, for more flexible viewing angles—it can be set in either portrait or landscape mode.

Being just MagSafe compatible, the phone charges at 7.5W; the base at 5W, and the Watch part at 3W.

In North America only, Journey has a faster-charging model for an extra $30, the Trio Ultra 3-in-1 Fast Wireless Charging Station with 15W iPhone charging and 5W fast Watch charging, reviewed above. The Watch module is not detachable on the high-end version, but the iPhone pad remains tiltable.

Anker 3-in-1 Cube with MagSafe – Best 3-in-1 compact magnetic charger

Anker 3-in-1 Cube with MagSafe – Best 3-in-1 compact magnetic charger

Colors : Gray

This 3-in-1 MagSafe charger is certified by Apple, so offers full 15W wireless charging for iPhone 12/13/14/15 plus 5W for AirPods and 5W for Apple Watch.

Although on the heavy side, it’s super-compact and great for travel. The Watch charging part is hidden in the cube until you need it. It comes with a 30W USB-C wall charger with switchable UK and EU plug fittings that slide onto the US plug prongs.

Its tiny footprint means it takes up little space on your desk or bedside cable, too.

The stand works in landscape and portrait orientations but isn’t high. It does have adjustable viewing angles up to 60°.

A similar 3-in-1 charger from the same company is the A-frame Anker 737 MagGo , which can also simultaneously charge an iPhone (at 15W), AirPods and Watch. Aside from the shape, the only real difference from the Anker 3-in-1 Cube with MagSafe is that the slightly cheaper 737 doesn’t support fast-charging for the Apple Watch.

Journey SWIV 3-in-1 Foldable Wireless Charging Station – Best 3-in-1 travel MagSafe charger pad

Journey SWIV 3-in-1 Foldable Wireless Charging Station – Best 3-in-1 travel MagSafe charger pad

  • Foldable for travel
  • Super compact design

This 3-in-1 iPhone/Watch/AirPods charger folds up extremely neatly into a compact and lightweight package that you wouldn’t really notice in a coat pocket. Of course, despite being wireless when charging your devices it still requires a wall charger (not included); it does comes with a USB-C cable.

The MagSafe charger is compatible so only 7.5W but the Watch does offer 5W fast-charging for your wearable.

The Watch module can lie flat or flip up for Nightstand mode—perfect for a bedside table. If you want a MagSafe travel charger with a stand, consider the Kuxiu X55 , reviewed below.

Kuxiu X55 3-In-1 Foldable Magnetic Wireless Charger & Stand – Best budget 3-in-1 travel charger pad/stand

Kuxiu X55 3-In-1 Foldable Magnetic Wireless Charger & Stand – Best budget 3-in-1 travel charger pad/stand

  • Pad and stand function
  • Super compact, lightweight design
  • Not as sturdy as some

Cable : 1 m (3.3ft)

Colors : White, Black, Gray

The Kuxiu X55 3-in-1 Foldable Magnetic Charger is a neat, portable way to charge all your Apple mobile devices—Watch, iPhone, AirPods—at the same time.

It’s special because it folds up into such a compact package—measuring 2.7-x-2.7-x-1.2 inches (6.8-x-6.8-x-3cm). Its closest alternative is the Evolved 3-in-1 Foldable Charger , reviewed below.

From a design and charging point of view, both are similar—and each has its advantages over the other.

In terms of design, the X55 is shorter but deeper. It is also 50g lighter than its rival travel 3-in-1: 147g compared to 197g. From a portability point of view, the X55 therefore wins but because of its weight and size the Evolved 3-in-1 is sturdier and less likely to tip back if at extreme angles. It can be set higher and is more adjustable.

In terms of charging, both are MagSafe compatible so can wirelessly charge the iPhone at 7.5W. However, the X55 can fast-charge an Apple Watch as its Watch-charging module is rated at 5W compared to Evolved’s 3W, which will therefore charge a Watch slower.

We appreciate the X55’s lighter weight and faster Watch charger. If you are going to use the stand part of the charger as a mainstay, then we vote for the Evolved. If you prefer the lightness and the fact that the X55 can be laid flat as well as function as a stand, then our vote switches to the X55 accordingly. The X55 is our favorite 3-in-1 travel stand and pad combo.

The X55 also ships with a hard-shell carry case and a 20W USB-C wall charger, which you’ll need to supply for the Evolved 3-in-1.

We also like the ESR HaloLock 3-in-1 Travel Wireless Charging Set , reviewed below, which is an inch longer and a little wider, but nearly half the depth. The X55 3-in-1 beats the ESR because its Apple Watch charger is integrated and not an attachable module. Again, it’s horses for courses—if you like the idea of having a detachable Watch charger that you can carry separately, then the ESR takes the crown.

The Journey SWIV 3-in-1 , reviewed above, is a little larger but noticeably lighter, and also can fast-charge the Apple Watch. It lies flat so doesn’t have the stand function.

Alogic Matrix Ultimate Fold 3-in-1 Stand with Power Bank

Alogic Matrix Ultimate Fold 3-in-1 Stand with Power Bank

  • 3-in-1 fast charging stand
  • 15W iPhone, 3W Watch
  • Detachable 15W MagSafe power bank
  • Low battery capacity
  • Bulkier than slower rivals

Watch fast charge: Yes

The Alogic Matrix Ultimate is multi-talented. It can charge an iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods wireless charging case at the same time, plus you can detach the iPhone charging pad and take it with you as a power bank. You can also detach the Apple Watch charger and slot that into any charging USB-C port, including that on the power bank.

On top of all that, you can fold the whole thing up and pack it in its own carry case.

Fully certified, it boasts 15W wireless iPhone charging, and can fast-charge a Watch at the same time.

The power bank’s battery capacity is 5000mAh, which in our tests gave us nearly a three-quarter recharge. There are alternatives, such as the OneAdaptr OneGo, reviewed below, that feature a 10000mAh power bank with much higher recharge potential—but none are rated as fast at charging as the Matrix Ultimate.

OneAdaptr OneGo – Best 3-in-1 magnetic power bank stand

OneAdaptr OneGo – Best 3-in-1 magnetic power bank stand

  • 10000mAh power bank
  • 7.5W iPhone, 2W Watch

Cable : 0.5 m (1.6ft)

Colors : White or Black

OneGo is a compact portable wireless charging station with a handy detachable, high-capacity (10000mAh) power bank that you can take with you on your travels.

Folded it measure 6.1-x-3.1-x-1.5 inches (15.5-x-7.8-x-3.7cm).

The Watch-charging module flips up from the back of the power bank. AirPods can be powered up at the back of the stand when the charger is unfolded.

While it’s not the fastest wireless charger (7.5W iPhone and 2W Watch) you can connect a cable to the power bank’s 18W USB-C port for speedy charging.

The OtterBox 2-in-1 Power Bank with MagSafe, reviewed below, offers faster wireless charging (15W and 5W) but is a much chunkier slab to carry around as the power bank is integrated rather than detachable.

Mophie 3-in-1 Extendable Stand – Best height-adjustable MagSafe charger

Mophie 3-in-1 Extendable Stand – Best height-adjustable MagSafe charger

  • Height adjustment
  • Tiltable MagSafe mount
  • Mostly plastic construction

Cable : None

If you want to properly raise your iPhone in a stand, this Mophie 3-in-1 charging stand is height adjustable between 7.5 to 16 inches (19-40cm).

The MagSafe mount is tilt adjustable, too, making this stand great for using FaceTime on the iPhone.

Fully Apple certified, it wirelessly charges an iPhone at 15W and can also fast-charge an Apple Watch.

While it feels stable, we’d have preferred a less plasticky stand column.

OtterBox 2-in-1 Power Bank with MagSafe – 2-in-1 MagSafe power bank stand

OtterBox 2-in-1 Power Bank with MagSafe – 2-in-1 MagSafe power bank stand

  • Watch fast charging

This is an interesting charger, being able to charge both an iPhone 12/13/14/15 and an Apple Watch—as well as being a large-capacity power bank so you charge your devices while away from a power socket.

Fully certified by Apple, it can wirelessly charge an iPhone at 15W and can also fast-charge an Apple Watch at the same time. You need to attach at least a 20W USB-C charger.

The adjustable iPhone stand folds right down and the Watch charger folds back to keep the OtterBox 2-in-1 Power Bank flat and easily transportable.

It is, however, quite large at 6-x-3.2-x-1.3 inches (15.3-x-8-x-3.4cm), and hefty (12oz (340g). It’s a bit of a brick to slip in a pocket and walk around with, but for a home/office power bank with iPhone stand that can move around a more limited space, it’s great.

For better portability, the OneAdaptr OneGo, reviewed above, features a detachable wireless power bank.

You can use it as a standard iPhone charging stand (connected to a wall charger) and then just pick it up and use it’s power bank facility when you need to move around.

Evolved 3-in-1 Foldable Charger – Budget 3-in-1 travel magnetic charger stand

Evolved 3-in-1 Foldable Charger – Budget 3-in-1 travel magnetic charger stand

  • Sturdy stand
  • Heavier than some

The Evolved 3-in-1 Foldable Charger is a competitor to the very similar Kuxiu X55 3-in-1 Foldable Magnetic Charger , reviewed above—we have compared to the chargers in more detail there.

The Evolved folds up into a compact package—measuring 3.5-x-2.4-x-0.9 inches (9-x-6.1-x-2.3cm), and weighing 197g. It may be a little longer and heavier than the Kuxio X55 but that also makes it studier and more flexible. This makes it our favorite budget 3-in-1 travel stand.

The X55 can be laid flat, which the Evolved cannot. The X55 (5W) is also faster than the Evolved (3W) at charging an Apple Watch. Both wirelessly charge the iPhone at 7.5W.

An alternative is the 15W Anker MagGo 3-in-1 Wireless Charger , reviewed above, that is priced a little higher but charges at twice the speed as this one.

You need to buy a separate, or provide your own, USB-C charger (at least 20W).

Zens 2-in-1 MagSafe + Watch Travel Charger

Zens 2-in-1 MagSafe + Watch Travel Charger

  • Charges iPhone and Apple Watch

Coming in its own hard-shell travel case, the Zens 2-in-1 MagSafe and Watch travel charger is a portable delight for owners of iPhone (12/13/14/15 series) and Apple Watch.

It is officially certified as Made for MagSafe, so charges at the full wireless 15W. Sadly the Watch doesn’t fast charge, too, but its arm folds out to create a kickstand for the iPhone in either portrait or landscape orientation.

ESR HaloLock 3-in-1 Travel Wireless Charging Set

ESR HaloLock 3-in-1 Travel Wireless Charging Set

Wall charger : 20W AC power adapter

The ESR HaloLock 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Set is certified by Apple for Apple Watch but is just compatible with MagSafe for iPhone 12/13/14/15 charging, so offers 7.5W rather than 15W.

The Watch charging part is separate but plugs in once the stand is unfolded. When folded it can be used as a wireless charging pad. The iPhone can be set in either landscape or portrait orientation when the charger is doubling up as a stand.

It’s lightweight and foldable, which makes it a great travel solution if you own iPhone, AirPods and Apple Watch. Both the Kuxiu X55 and the Evolved 3-in-1 Foldable Charger are a more compact package for Apple Watch and iPhone owners because their Watch-charging modules are built-in. The Journey SWIV is about the same weight as the ESR but without the detachable nature of the Watch charger. It also can fast-charge a Watch unlike the ESR or Evolved foldable chargers.

It measures 4.5-x-2.6-x-0.63 inches (11.3-x-6.6-x-1.6cm).

There’s a smart travel case included that fits in the 20W charger, cable, Watch attachment and folding charging stand.

Alogic MagSpeed 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station – Budget 3-in-1 magnetic charger

Alogic MagSpeed 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station – Budget 3-in-1 magnetic charger

Wall charger : Not included, except in Australia: 20W AC power adapter

For a budget 3-in-1 magnetic stand that will charge your iPhone 12/13/14/15, AirPods wireless-charging case and Apple Watch, the Alogic MagSpeed 3-in-1 Wireless Charger is a simpler product than the Belkin 3-in-1 but works just fine–although at the lower charging speed as it isn’t MagSafe certified.

It is similar in charging speeds to the Journey Rapid TRIO 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station, reviewed above.

The iPhone can be angled in either portrait or landscape mode, but it can’t be angled up or down. This is where the Journey charger wins out in the battle of the affordable 3-in-1 MagSafe chargers.

If you are buying in Australia (Alogic is an Australian company), you get a 20W charger, but elsewhere you’ll need to use your own wall charger.

Belkin Magnetic Portable Wireless Charger Pad – Best budget magnetic charger with 2m cable

Belkin Magnetic Portable Wireless Charger Pad – Best budget magnetic charger with 2m cable

Belkin doesn’t just make MagSafe chargers; it has a range of compatible magnetic products, too.

Its low-end Magnetic Charger Pad is not as fast as Apple’s Charger as it’s one of the non-MagSafe-certified products, but it is cheaper and comes with a cable that is twice as long as Apple’s, which gives you more flexibility depending on the distance of your power socket to where is most convenient for you for charging. It also features a handy cord wrap.

An LED indicates if there’s any charging interruption from another object that maybe could harm your phone.

If you don’t mind the slower 7.5W charging, this is an affordable solution that beats the official Apple product with its longer cable.

Belkin Boost Up Charge Pro 2-in-1 Wireless Charger Stand

Belkin Boost Up Charge Pro 2-in-1 Wireless Charger Stand

  • AirPod LED can't be turned off

As an officially MFi-certified MagSafe charger, the Belkin Charge Pro hits the 15W heights just like the Apple chargers.

Like Apple’s own Duo Charger it can simultaneously power up your AirPods at 5W on its Qi circular base, plus it has the bonus of being a stand that can hold the iPhone in either portrait or landscape mode with its stable weighted base.

It’s a bit plasticky but still looks suitably Apple-ish, and it beats the Apple 2-in-1 on price.

A small LED shows whether the placed AirPods case is wirelessly charging.

Zens 4-in-1 MagSafe + Watch Wireless Charging Station – Best 4-in-1 MagSafe charging stand

Zens 4-in-1 MagSafe + Watch Wireless Charging Station – Best 4-in-1 MagSafe charging stand

  • Includes wall charger

Wall charger : 45W AC power adapter

Similar in looks to the Belkin 3-in-1 Wireless Charger Stand, the aluminum Zens 4-in-1 MagSafe + Watch Charging Station beats it on two fronts: it has a much smaller footprint and can charge four devices simultaneously. It is certified Made for MagSafe so can fast-charge an iPhone 12/13/14/15 at 15W compared to just 7.5W for merely compatible magnetic chargers.

The base features a 5W Qi charging pad allows for charging wirelessly rechargeable AirPods or other Qi compatible device

The fourth device is charged using a side-mounted USB-C port, so is wired rather than wireless like the parts for iPhone, Watch and AirPods. Rated at 18W charging, this USB-C connection can fast-charge another iPhone or charge an iPad.

The supplied 45W wall charger comes with US, UK and EU adapter plugs so you can take the Zens 4-in-1 Charging Station on your travels.

Belkin Boost Up Charge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charger Stand with MagSafe – 3-in-1 MagSafe charging stand

Belkin Boost Up Charge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charger Stand with MagSafe – 3-in-1 MagSafe charging stand

  • Large footprint

Belkin has a 3-in-1 MagSafe Charger that is a stand where the phone and Watch are held high and the AirPods case sits underneath in a Qi-compatible hollow on the base.

This is more stylish that other wireless charging stands, having a Sixties space-age design with chrome arms, and a silicone-covered plastic base.

A stand is useful as it lifts the charging phone to a height that makes it easier to FaceTime or watch videos without having to hold the phone aloft. It can hold the phone in either portrait or landscape mode.

In order to support the weight of the phone, the circular base has to be quite wide, at 13.5cm. For a smaller footprint 3-in-1 charger consider the Twelve South HiRise 3 Deluxe or OtterBox 3-in-1 Charging Station—both reviewed above.

An LED indicates if the AirPods are charging, and it ships with its own power supply unit.

Belkin Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Pad with MagSafe – Best 3-in-1 MagSafe charging pad

Belkin Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Pad with MagSafe – Best 3-in-1 MagSafe charging pad

  • Fast charges Watch
  • Phone lies flat

Belkin has two models of 3-in-1 wireless charger, both MFi-certified, that can simultaneously charge your portable Apple goodies: iPhone, AirPods and Watch.

If you’ve bought into the whole Apple device ecosystem, this one will charge all you pocketable or wearable devices. of particular note is that it can fast-charge the Apple Watch.

This model is a flat pad that also includes the possibility to leave the Watch in Nightstand mode as a bedside or desk clock. We would have preferred if the phone charger could also be angled to prop up the phone for video viewing.

While minimalist in design, it does take up a fair section of desk–measuring about 23cm across and 8cm wide, and the iPhone sticks out at either side.

The pad format is better for travel portability than a charging stand, and it comes with its own wall power supply unit, so you don’t need to add your own USB-C charger.

An LED indicates if the AirPods are charging.

Alogic Matrix 3-in-1 Magnetic Charging Dock – Best modular 3-in-1 magnetic charger

Alogic Matrix 3-in-1 Magnetic Charging Dock – Best modular 3-in-1 magnetic charger

  • Can add portable power bank

Alogic has created a modular system that transforms what is often a static charging station into something more dynamic and portable. It’s called Matrix and features several products, some of which can be used with each other depending on your charging needs.

The Matrix 3-in-1 Magnetic Charging Dock with Apple Watch Charger features a MagSafe-compatible wireless charging stand to charge an iPhone at 7.5W, a Qi cradle neatly placed at the back for charging compatible AirPods, and a detachable charger for the Apple Watch. You can take the small Watch charger with you and plug it into a USB-C charger or device with output charging. Be patient, though, at just 2W it can’t fast-charge an Apple Watch—for that you need Apple’s USB-C Magnetic Fast Charging Cable and at least a 5W USB-C charger—but it is more portable as it doesn’t require a long cable, having its USB-C connector built-in.

As with the Anker 633 Wireless Charger, reviewed above, you can also swap out the wireless phone-charging block and add the Matrix Wireless Power Bank (sold separately). This 5000mAh portable power bank can work in the static charging stand or come with you as a neat, portable magnetic battery pack—ready powered up for the stand. This can charge two phones or devices: one wirelessly and the other simultaneously via USB-C cable. In our tests, it charged a flagging iPhone 13 Pro from 10% to 94%.

There’s even a Matrix Magnetic Wireless Charger with Car Mount available, which the power bank can be slotted into. We’d have preferred this and the 3-in-1 Charger to be available without the non-portable charging block for those users who already own the power bank.

If you don’t own an Apple Watch, the Matrix 2-in-1 Magnetic Charging Dock will save you some money, and the side-mounted USB-C Port means you could add the Watch module at a later date should you succumb to the full Apple device roster.

Zens 4-in-1 Modular Wireless Charger

Zens 4-in-1 Modular Wireless Charger

  • 4-in-1 (up 6-in-1)

Wall charger : 65W AC power adapter

The Zens 4-in-1 Modular Charging Station for iPhone with MagSafe, AirPods, Apple Watch and iPad is a MagSafe-certified charging stand that can handle not just four Apple devices but more if you buy extra charging modules to connect.

Any MagSafe iPhone (12/13/14/15) can be wirelessly charged at up to 15W, faster than non-certified MagSafe-compatible chargers. AirPods and Apple Watch will each charge wirelessly at 5W.

The iPhone can be placed in either portrait or landscape mode. At the back is a stand where you can place an iPad, which can be wired charged via a side-mounted USB-C port at up to 30W.

All devices can be charged simultaneously as the power supply has a 65W total output.

The Watch module that ships with the 4-in-1 charger can handily be situated on either the right- or left-hand side depending on your preference. Modules attach magnetically.

The Apple Watch extension can be disconnected from the main station and charged via a USB-C port to become a standalone wireless charger when travelling.

Up to three modules can be added, and different modules are available separately. Aside from extra Watch modules, the Single Wireless Charger Extension is a 10W wireless charging pad, and the Modular USB-hub Extension lets you recharge a USB-A powered device.

If you don’t own an Apple Watch, the cheaper 3-in-1 Modular Charging Station charges iPhone, AirPods and iPad. Also available from Apple .

As an environmental bonus, the Charging Station and all modules are made from recycled plastic.

Belkin Boost Charge Pro Wireless Car Charger with MagSafe – Best MagSafe car charger

Belkin Boost Charge Pro Wireless Car Charger with MagSafe – Best MagSafe car charger

  • Dedicated car accessory
  • Not compatible with all car vents

Cable : Built-in

Wall charger : 12V car charger included

Use your iPhone for satnav directions or to have easy access to your playlists in the car with this MagSafe-certified wireless charger and car vent mount, which works in both landscape and portrait modes.

It has an integrated USB-C cable, and a 12V car charger adapter for cars that come with USB-A ports.

The magnetic link is strong, which should mean that it can cope with any big bumps in the road. It works best with straight, horizontal vent slats up to 3mm in thickness and 20mm in depth. It does work with vertical slats, but there might be slight movements if the mount is overloaded with weight, says Belkin.

As the only dedicated MagSafe-certified 15W car mount available, it is expensive. If you can handle a lower charger rate, the Belkin BoostCharge Magnetic Wireless Car Charger 10W does pretty much the same job for a lot less. Or you can buy Spigen’s Mag Fit Phone Holder Car Mount and add Apple’s MagSafe Charger (reviewed above) for pretty much the same 15W result. That product is also available in black, like most car vents.

At the moment, the only place to buy the MagSafe version is via Apple’s US Store .

ESR Qi2 Magnetic Wireless Car Charger (Halolock) – Best budget wireless car charger

ESR Qi2 Magnetic Wireless Car Charger (Halolock) – Best budget wireless car charger

  • Car charger not included

While still able to charge at a fast 15W Qi2 chargers are mostly cheaper than the Apple-certified MagSafe—but as Qi2 is based on MagSafe you have nothing to fear choosing this cheaper option.

It comes with a 1m USB-C cable, with USB-A adapter if your car still has that older standard.

You can clip it into the slats on your car’s air vent (ESR says it is compatible with 99% of all cars, which we can’t verify) or you can use the included 3M adhesive mount for a semipermanent attachment to your car’s dashboard—don’t use this on a nice leather or fabric (or curved) dash.

Journey ALTI Desk Mat – Best wireless charging desk mat

Journey ALTI Desk Mat – Best wireless charging desk mat

  • Stylish desk mat

Wall charger: Not included

Colors : Black, Light Gray

This smart desk mat includes a detachable side strip that includes a magnetic wireless charging pad for phone and a non-magnetic section to charge your AirPods. Not only is the mat reversible, with smooth, wipeable vegan leather on one side and warmer-feel felt on the other, but you can pull back the mat to stow paper and notes to help reduce clutter.

It’s quite a large mat, measuring 780 x 70 x 4mm. The Light gray color is actually more of a warm stone tone.

The charging panel connects to the mat with a light magnetic snap, and can be positioned on either side simply by flipping the mat round 180 degrees, depending on whether you are left or right handed.

As it’s MagSafe compatible rather than certified, it charges the iPhone at 7.5W rather than 15W, but will charge other compatible phones at the higher power. Earbuds can be charged at up to 5W. The magnetic fit is strong so you can’t knock it off its charging position with a stray flick of an arm.

It comes with a USB-C cable but requires a charger; recommended 20W or higher.

Journey NEXA 4-in-1 Laptop Sleeve with Wireless Charging

Journey NEXA 4-in-1 Laptop Sleeve with Wireless Charging

  • Luxury MacBook sleeve
  • MagSafe charging

The premium-quality, vegan leather Journey NEXA laptop sleeve bills itself as a “4-in-1”, and it certainly is multi-functional.

As well as protecting your laptop during travel, it includes two wireless chargers (one MagSafe compatible at 7.5W; one 5W for AirPods or a second phone) and can work as both a desk mat and mousepad to free your workspace of clutter.

While it comes with a USB-C cable, you’ll need to add your own charger (check our roundup of the  best iPhone chargers ) to connect with the USB-C port in the sleeve. Alternatively you can charge the MacBook itself while it sits protected in the sleeve—for this you’ll need a more powerful  MacBook charger .

Casetify Magnetic Wireless Charger – Most fun magnetic charger collection

Casetify Magnetic Wireless Charger – Most fun magnetic charger collection

  • Hundreds of options

Colors : Many cool and/or odd patterns

We picked the English Breakfast pattern for its sheer wanton oddness but there are plenty of other patterns (Acid, Checks, Cherry Blossom) and pictures (Yeti, Harry Potter, Snoopy) to choose from.

Indeed, there are 238 different wireless charger fronts to choose from.

This 100% recyclable slim charger has eco sustainability points, too, as it’s made with recycled aluminum and printed with eco-friendly ink.

Why wireless?

Wireless charging is convenient and fine for situations when you don’t need a super-fast recharge.

If you’re leaving your home in 20 minutes and need as much juice as possible, plug in the Lightning cable (or USB-C for iPhone 15) as even a 12W USB charger can power up an iPhone a third faster than wireless, and 50% faster if you use a 20W USB-C PD charger.

It is less wearing than constantly inserting a cable into your phone, and more reliable as that vulnerable cable port can fill with fluff and dust after all the time spent in your trouser pocket or bag and it’s one of the most common reasons that an iPhone refuses to charge even when connected with a cable.

It’s easy to clean with a toothpick (but please do it softly!) but will affect most of us at some time.

Wireless charging isn’t affected by the build-up of dust and fluff in the phone port and is also less vulnerable to oxidation and corrosion.

With wireless, you don’t have to remember to run around trying to find who’s taken your charging cable, and it’s certainly a lot neater.

Of course, wireless charging is not really wireless, unless you are using a portable MagSafe battery pack. The MagSafe charger is still connected by a cable to your wall charger; it’s just the connection to the phone that is properly wireless.

What else you need

Some MagSafe chargers come with their own wall charger, but most require you to add your own. Apple recommends at least a 20W USB-C power adapter (wall-socket charger) and we agree. You won’t get over 15W charging power from the MagSafe charger to the iPhone, but 20W all but guarantees you’ll get as much power as you can.

We have tested the best iPhone wall chargers to help you choose a recommended solution.

Keep Apple devices ready to go with mophie’s convenient 3-in-1 travel charger [Updated review]

By Ed Hardy • 9:50 am, January 5, 2024

  • Top stories

Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe version 2

Roll out the mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe and it’s ready to juice up your iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods. Just drop the devices on their appropriate wireless charging mat. And, to make it easier to take on the road, the accessory comes with a carrying case.

I used the original 2022 model, and mophie introduced a new version in late 2023. I retested the multidevice travel charger to see how quickly it wirelessly powers up a variety of Apple products and how easy it is to carry around. Here are my updated results.

mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe review

I rarely leave the house without an iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods. And I certainly wouldn’t go on vacation without them. That makes a way to recharge each of them while I’m on the road a necessity.

I can throw a couple of cables and wall power adapters in my bag, but I always end up wanting to everything at the same time so the collection of cables and chargers gets bulky, and they clutter up my luggage.

The mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe is an all-in-one solution. It’s a mat with a single USB-C cable and adapter that charges three Apple devices at the same time. And it can handle your MacBook and iPad in a pinch.

With the release of a new 2023 model, I retested the latest version. The small changes in appearance are noted below. For those who already own the 2022 version, the only functional change in the refresh is the addition of Apple Watch fast charging.

Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe (2023) folded up

The mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe starts out as a 3.1-inch by 3.3-inch by 1.0-inch rolled-up package that’s 0.4 pounds. This is held magnetically closed.

Unroll the device to expose the three charging mats: one for AirPods, one for iPhone and the third for Apple Watch.

The exterior of the charger is fabric in a professional-looking dark grey. The interior is more utilitarian: plastic charging mats on a black surface. It’s not something you’ll want permanently on your desk or nightstand, though it’s fine for a business trip or vacation.

Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe -- 2023 version

The center of mophie’s 3-in-1 Travel Charger is an iPhone wireless charging mat with MagSafe. An iPhone 12, 13, 14 or 15 will cling to this magnetically and charge at up to 15W. Many rival chargers top out at 7.5W.

Any iPhone or Android that supports wireless charging can also use this mat. They won’t get the advantages of MagSafe , though.

I did real-world testing with my iPhone 15, and the charger was able to raise the handset’s battery level 19% in half an hour, and 37% in a full hour. That’s slower than other MagSafe-compatible chargers I’ve tested, and about the same speed as Apple’s own version.

On the right side of mophie’s travel charger is the Apple Watch charging mat. The wearable clings to this magnetically, and the mat is on a hinge so you can tilt it up. That makes the Watch screen easily viewable at night.

In my real-world test, the mat raised the battery level on the Apple Watch Series 3 by 28% in half an hour. That’s the standard charging rate for the wearable. If I had a new model of the wearable, the accessory would be able to fast charge it.

The third major component of the Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe is a slightly concave mat designed to hold a Wireless Charging Case for AirPods. The mat provides the standard 5W of power.

Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe (2023) case, cable and charger

The iPhone/Apple Watch/AirPods charger comes with a 30W USB-C PD wall adapter. That’s enough juice to power all three wireless charging mats simultaneously. I tested this to be sure.

A 39-inch USB-C to USB-C cable is also included. It’s long enough to teach from a wall socket to a nightstand.

Or you can use the wall charger and USB-C cable for your Mac or iPad instead. USB-C is USB-C.

One of my favorite features of the mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe is its carrying case (shown above). The new 2023 version is a dark-gray felted material and is held closed with a zipper. It is made with up to 50% recycled plastic bottles.

There’s enough room inside for the multidevice charger, the wall adapter and the cable. There’s even a discreet AirTag pocket. This is a convenient way to keep all the pieces of the accessory together when you’re traveling.

mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe final thoughts

Getting to a destination and realizing you’ve forgotten the cable(s) you need to charge your devices is a bad feeling. I recommend anyone who travels regularly keep what you need permanently packed in your suitcase. A multidevice charger like mophie’s makes that easy. Drop the convenient carrying case in your bag and it’ll be waiting.

I like everything about the product… as long as you need all three types of chargers. It’s a bit bulky if you plan to only use two.

The mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe is available now. The cost is $149.95. You can certainly find cheaper options, but mophie produces top-quality accessories and charges accordingly.

It doesn't matter if you have the iPhone 13 Mini or the iPhone 13 Pro , Apple's smartphones are glass sandwiches that will shatter when they inevitably escape your hands. That's totally not your fault. But it's why we highly recommend using a case with your expensive iPhone. It's not guaranteed to protect your device, but it can help. We've tested dozens and whittled them down to our favorites below. This list includes other iPhone accessories too, such as cables, charging adapters, and screen protectors.

Check out our other buying guides, like the Best MagSafe Accessories , Best iPhone , Best iPhone 12 Cases , Best iPad Accessories , Best iPhone SE accessories , and Best iPhone 14 Deals .

Updated September 2022: We've added Bluebonnet's MagSafe Wallet and Mophie's 3-in-1 wireless charger. We've also moved many of our MagSafe accessories into their own guide .

We've tested these cases on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max . Cases that fit the 6.1-inch iPhone 13 will not fit the 6.1-inch iPhone 13 Pro. That's because the camera system on the standard Pro is significantly larger. Some case manufacturers didn't learn of this until the iPhones were announced , so you might see some compatibility issues. It's something to keep an eye on as you shop.

What's MagSafe?

MagSafe is a term you might recall from the magnetic charging cable on MacBooks of old ( and new! ). Apple brought back the name for the iPhone as a system of magnetic accessories that can connect to the back of the iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and iPhone 14 range. Apple says its magnet accessories are shielded, so it's safe to use with credit cards (if maybe not hotel key cards).

Cases need to have a ring of MagSafe magnets built into them to properly work with other MagSafe gear (one easy way to tell is by looking for a ring on the inside of a case in product images). Not every third-party case has them. Some companies claim their cases are “MagSafe compatible” even without magnets, but that may be because the case is thin enough for the magnets to still stick. The connection is almost always weak, though. If you plan on using MagSafe accessories like Apple's wireless charger or wallet , you should get a MagSafe case. If a case or accessory supports MagSafe in this guide, you'll see “MagSafe” in the product description.

Apple's Official Cases

Sticking with Apple is the easiest route, though you certainly don't need to pay $49 for a simple MagSafe case. Apple has a wonderfully supple leather case and a silicone option. Both have accurate cutouts for ports and decently clicky buttons. They're fairly slim and keep the camera module flush, preventing the iPhone from rocking when it's flat on the table. Unlike prior Apple cases, all the edges are covered up, including the bottom.

Best Overall

I've tested a lot of cases over the years, and every now and then a new one comes across my desk that just feels great. Caudabe's Sheath takes that badge. The flexible polymer case has a micro-etched matte texture that almost feels like canvas; it's grippy and very thin. The buttons are all easy to press, and there's MagSafe embedded inside. However, in the first model I tested, there was a very small bump on the center-right side of the case. Caudabe says it was a defect, and the following three cases I tried have been blemish-free. Just keep an eye on this if you snag it.

Best Cheap Case

It's cheap and slim, has MagSafe, and isn't awful to look at (if a little nondescript). If you want to pay as little as possible for a case, Spigen's your best bet. The buttons are responsive, all four edges are covered, and it's very easy to access the mute switch. The front edges around the screen are raised too, but only a little.

Nimble Spotlight case

Three Eco-Friendly Cases

These are a handful of cases we like that are made out of recycled or plant-based materials and keep the environment top of mind.

Pivet Zero+ With MagSafe for $35 :  This MagSafe case from Pivet comes with a lanyard so you can dangle your phone from your wrist. The buttons are very clicky, and there's good protection around the edges, but the edges around the screen are barely raised, so there's a good chance your screen might get scuffed up when it hits the ground. The case is made from 100 percent recycled plastics (and is recyclable), and Pivet's Self-Cycle tech means it will degrade in landfill environments significantly faster than traditional plastics (though it may still take some time ). For every Ocean Blue case sold, Pivet donates a portion of its proceeds to The Ocean Agency to help it promote ocean conservation as a part of the United Nations Ocean Decade project.

Nimble Spotlight Case for $25 : This is one of the most attractive eco-friendly cases I've ever used. It's made from 72 percent recycled plastic from various sources (thermoplastic urethane, silicone, and old plastic phone cases), which is reflected in its geometric design. The speckled part is very grippy and keeps the phone from vibrating off a desk. The packaging has zero plastic, and Nimble provides a free shipping label in the box so you can send in any plastic case you have lying around to be recycled. You'll get 15 percent off your next purchase if you do. Sadly, there's no MagSafe support.

OtterBox Core Series Case With MagSafe for $50 : I like the rubbery and speckled feel of this slightly see-through case. There's MagSafe support, the buttons are responsive, and it looks great, though the edges aren't raised much. Despite the texture, it's quite slippery. The good news is that it's made of 50 percent recycled materials.

Sonix iPhone case

The Prettiest Cases

If you want the prettiest, cutest, or most unusual case, look no further than Sonix. The sheer number of styles it offers for its MagSafe cases is mind-boggling—there's even a glow-in-the-dark model ! The buttons are great, and you get a raised bumper on the front edges. Sonix says some of these cases are biodegradable and made with eco-friendly thermoplastic elastomer materials, allowing them to break down over three to five years. If you have an old Sonix case, you can use the company's ReSonix program and donate your case to a nonprofit like Goodwill to get 30 percent off your next case purchase. The packaging is made with recycled paper.

★ Other Pretty Cases: Casetify matches Sonix in the variety of designs you can find . Seriously, the options are endless. I prefer its MagSafe Impact cases ($75) , which have a really nice speckled design around the edges. It's just a shame they're so expensive. These cases are made of 65 percent recycled and plant-based materials.

Twelve South BookBook iPhone case

Best Wallet Case

Most wallet cases can barely fit more than two cards. The Twelve South BookBook breaks the mold—it's pretty much my perfect wallet case. It's two separate pieces. There's the MagSafe full-grain leather case with a rigid and slightly raised bumper around the edges (plus clicky buttons), and this snaps onto the folio wallet. The connection is strong, and on the left side of the wallet, there's a transparent slot for your ID and three regular slots that can fit around three to four cards. There's a pouch to hold cash, but it's long enough to also hold my vaccination card (I checked!). You can prop up your phone with the folio wallet in landscape mode, and when you need to recharge your phone wirelessly—or don't need the wallet—just pull the phone off. It's amazingly convenient. Oh, and did I mention it looks like a book ?!

Totallee MagSafe iPhone case

The Thinnest Case

Totallee has made a name for itself as the go-to option for anyone who hates cases but wants some kind of protection. Its cases are so thin you can't seriously expect them to protect your iPhone from a drop, but they'll take care of everyday scratches and scuffs. The company sells three versions: an ultra-thin plastic case, a soft-touch case, and a soft-touch MagSafe case. The plastic case is thin enough that accessories will still magnetically stick, and it even comes in green to match the new colors for the iPhone 13 range.

But if you want some protection, go with the clear Hybrid MagSafe case. The rigid black bumper protects the phone's frame, the edges around the screen and camera module are raised, and the buttons aren't mushy to press. It does all that while remaining pretty thin.

Nomad screen protector with iphone

Great Screen Protectors

Apple says its iPhones are protected by its strongest glass ever, dubbed Ceramic Shield. Yay! But … glass is still glass. A big or small fall is enough to crack it, and I've already noticed a few scratches. These WIRED-tested screen protectors were the easiest to apply.

Smartish Tuff Sheet 2-Pack for $10 : Smartish makes the installation process dead simple. Clean the screen with the included wet wipe, dry it with the microfiber cloth, and use the stickers to remove any lingering dust. Then place the alignment tool over your iPhone, remove the backing from the tempered glass protector, and plop it in place! I had a perfect alignment in seconds. You even get a spare.

Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit 2-Pack for $16 : Awful name aside, you get two screen protectors here, and after you follow the instructions to clean the screen with the included wet wipe, dust-removing stickers, and microfiber cloth, you'll need to place a large plastic alignment case over your iPhone and then peel the protector's backing off. The only thing I don't like? The amount of plastic used here for the two alignment tools feels a bit wasteful. This protector is also available for the iPhone 13 Mini and the iPhone 13 Pro Max .

Nomad Screen Protector for $25 : Nomad's process is almost identical to the Smartish above, and installation took a matter of seconds. You only get one protector though, and it's pricier. Just make sure to press down from the middle and push out to eliminate as many air bubbles as possible.

iPhone case

A Well-Rounded Case

This OtterBox case checks all the boxes. It's made of 50 percent recycled plastic, covers all the edges well, has easy-to-use buttons, and feels sturdy. Oh, and there's MagSafe support too. The raised front edges keep the screen off the ground, and it maintains a relatively thin profile. OtterBox says the exterior has an antimicrobial finish to keep bacteria at bay, but there's scant evidence that this actually helps, and it's certainly no substitute for washing your hands.

iPhone case

For Nail Biters

I have a bad habit of biting my nails, so it's nearly impossible for me to access the mute switch on the iPhone when it's in a case. The Vibe case from Catalyst smartly solves this by letting you control the switch with a knob that rotates. It's far more satisfying to use. The case has a ring of magnets for MagSafe compatibility and a nice grippy texture, and it doesn't add much heft. The edges around the screen are decently raised to keep it off of surfaces, and there are four spots where you can attach a lanyard for additional security.

iPhone case

A Leather Case

I like Nomad's leather cases the most. Not only is the material from the esteemed Chicago-based Horween Leather Company, but it's also fused with a thermoplastic elastomer bumper for better shock-absorbing protection. Better yet, Nomad embedded magnets so this works with all MagSafe accessories, and there's a spot to attach a wrist strap.

★ Slimmer Leather Cases: You probably don't want to spend $70 on a case. Then get Mujjo's case ($45) instead. It's slimmer and the leather is equally luxurious (and covers the entire phone, with no polycarbonate whatsoever). Too bad there's no MagSafe support.

A Wooden Case

Oakywood's wooden MagSafe cases come in either cherry or walnut, with wood from sustainable sources. It feels really nice! The buttons are relatively easy to press, and the polycarbonate bumper around the edges adds an extra layer of protection. I like that the company plants a tree for every product sold .

A Triple Wireless Charger

If you have an iPhone, you may have other Apple-made products, like AirPods or the Apple Watch . If so, consider one system to charge them all. I like this one from Belkin. It's completely MagSafe-compatible, so your iPhone 13 can hook up magnetically and will look like it's floating. The Apple Watch attaches to its charger magnetically, and there's a spot for the AirPods case on the base. The minimal design hides most of the charger and elevates the gear more than any other 3-in-1 I've used, making for a very elegant system. It's one of the only third-party chargers that supports a 15-watt output for the iPhone 13 range and fast-charging support for the Apple Watch, so your devices will recharge as quickly as wirelessly possible.

Belkin also has an elongated pad that adds MagSafe charging for the AirPods (if you have the newer AirPods 3rd Gen or AirPods Pro (with the MagSafe case) . That just means your earbuds case will stay securely in one place while charging. It takes up a whole lot more room than the stand, and the screen isn't propped up, but maybe that's your jam.

★ Also Great: Satechi's 3-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand ($120) is slightly cheaper; it's also more compact and doesn't take up much room on a desk. You can squeeze in your wireless charging earbuds case in front of the magnetic Apple Watch dock and charge both, and the iPhone 13 can float on the stand nearby in portrait or landscape orientation. It won't charge as quickly as Belkin's system, but it does the job .

Backbone One controller with Xbox game pass on the screen

A Game Controller

If you spend a fair amount of time playing mobile games, it's worth considering Apple Arcade for access to high-quality titles (with zero ads). Pair it with the Backbone One ( 8/10, WIRED Recommends ) controller and you'll wonder how you played anything without it. The control layout is intuitive and satisfying to use (and comfortable), plus it works with a decent selection of games. You can even use it to play your Xbox or PlayStation games anywhere, and it adds a headphone jack! Just know that there's an adapter in the box to fit the iPhone 13, and you'll probably need to take your case off every time you use it.

Mophie 3in1 travel charger kit

Great for Travelers

Do you need to spend $150 on a charging solution like this? No. But if price is no object and you have an Apple Watch, iPhone, and AirPods with a wireless charging case, it's really hard to dislike Mophie's 3-in-1 MagSafe wireless charger. It can juice up your iPhone at the full 15-watt speed, the Apple Watch puck pops up for nightstand mode, and the third spot fit my AirPods Pro well (it's hit or miss whether other wireless earbuds will recharge).

The whole thing packs down to a very compact size, and Mophie includes a little felt travel case with a charging cable and adapter. It's a neat solution and is much better than carrying several different cables and chargers.

Anker power adapter

A Charging Adapter

None of the iPhone 13 models come with charging adapters in the box. Plus, the cable they do come with is a USB-C-to-Lightning, and you might not have a USB-C power adapter lying around. Rather than buying an adapter from Apple, you should get this one from Anker. It's positively tiny—just a hair bigger than the 5-watt adapter Apple used to include. However, the Nano Pro can output 20 watts, meaning it can fast-charge your iPhone. The prongs don't fold, so if you need one that does, I like this Satechi 30-watt charger , which is almost as small and lightweight.

★ For More Power: Satechi's 108-watt 3-port charger ($75) is powerful enough to juice up your iPhone, MacBook Air, and iPad Pro at the same time. The prongs can fold, and the whole thing won't take up too much space in a bag.

USBC Lightning cable

A Durable Cable

If you're using a mangled Apple-made cable to recharge your iPhone, it might be time for an upgrade. Apple's included cable is fine , but I've seen too many in tatters to believe it will withstand long-term abuse. I like Nimble's knit fabric USB-C to Lighting cables. They're made from recycled plastic and aluminum, are BPA- and PVC-free, and ship in plastic-free packaging. They're also just plain attractive.

★  More Great Cables: Prefer a USB-A to Lightning cable? I like the Crown Joule from Smartish ($20) , which is technically USB-A to MicroUSB, but there's an adapter at the tip that converts it to USB-C or Lightning. You can also choose standard USB-C to USB-C, Lighting to USB-A, or Lightning to USB-C. Caudabe's ChargeFlex USB-C to Lightning cable ($29) is another great option. It's braided, is 5 feet long, and has a clip you can use for cable management. And check out Nomad's Lightning to USB-C Sport Cable ($25) . It has an integrated cable tie, is about 6.5 feet long, and has a tough nylon braid.

iPhone case

Rugged With a Holster and Kickstand

Rugged cases with holsters are usually very ugly and a pain in the butt to remove or install (looking at you, Otterbox). This MagSafe one from Pelican goes against the grain. A simple design keeps it aesthetically pleasing, and you can install it in seconds just by snapping the front and back pieces of the case together around the iPhone. It's thick, with flaps covering all the ports (except for the speakers), and the buttons are still easy to click. The cherry on top? It includes a holster, which the iPhone easily slots into, and this also doubles as a kickstand. You can take the iPhone out of its case by sliding the tip of the kickstand into a groove on the corner edge. Smart!

★ Another Great Case and Holster: The Evo Max from Tech21 ($23) is surprisingly slick. The buttons are very responsive, the power and mute switch are covered, and you can slide a cover over the rear cameras for some added peace of mind. It comes with a separate holster you can slide the iPhone into, and it stays very secure on a belt. Unfortunately, this one does not work with any MagSafe accessories, but it does support wireless charging.

iPhone case

A Leather Holster

Who needs pockets when you can carry your iPhone on your pants? This full-grain leather holster has a strong magnet that keeps it secure, and the magnetic clasp ensures your iPhone won't fly out. The interior is lined with Ultrasuede, a microfiber-like material that keeps scratches at bay. You can access the mute switch and charging port without taking your iPhone out, which is a nice touch. Just make sure to choose the right size for your device.

Apple AirTag in an Apple Leather Carrying Case

Find Your Gear

Frequently misplacing your keys, backpack, or wallet? One of the easiest ways for you to keep tabs on your gear is to use Apple's AirTag (though it's not without flaws ). You pair it with the Find My app that's preinstalled on Apple devices and put it in your bag, in your wallet, or on your keychain. If it's nearby, you'll see it on the map and can track it down fairly precisely. If it isn't , don't worry. You'll not only see the last known location, but AirTags also leverages all nearby Apple devices to try and ping its location back to you. You just need to wait until someone with an Apple gadget walks by.

We've rounded up other gadgets you can use to track your gear here . Want to track your pet? We've got options for that too !

Cyrill iPhone case

Honorable Mentions

Not every case or accessory I test is a winner, but that hardly means they're bad. Here are a few options I tried but didn't like enough to list above.

  • Cyrill Cases for $17 : None of Cyrill's cases for the iPhone 13 lineup have magnets for MagSafe compatibility (the connection is very weak). Otherwise, they're some great, attractive cases. My personal favorite is the Color Brick series.
  • Moft Snap Phone Case for $40 : This case offers improved magnet strength, so if you frequently deal with accessories falling off your iPhone, it's worth checking out. Too bad the buttons are a bit too hard to press.
  • Clickr Stand & Grip Case for $25 : There's no MagSafe support here, but this is a relatively affordable case with a kickstand that works in portrait and landscape orientation. Just make sure you hear the click when you adjust the stand at the back to make sure it stays in place. It doubles as a grip, but it wasn't comfortable to hold, and I don't think it looks that nice.
  • Spigen Enzo MagSafe Case for $150 : Spigen, best known for making ultra-affordable cases, went and made an ultra-luxurious case. It's … fine. I mean, it's nice! The leather feels supple, the suede interior is soft, and there's a fancy wrist strap. I just don't know why it costs $150. For that much money, I'd want a much flashier case.
  • Survivor Endurance for MagSafe for $55 : There's nothing dramatically special about Survivor's MagSafe case. It feels tough, and I like the grippy pattern on its rubber-like bumper. It's made of recycled materials too.
  • Incipio Grip for MagSafe for $60 : You can get it in clear or black, and the most notable part of this case is the grippy sides, which are great if you have butterfingers. The buttons also react well.
  • Bluebonnet Full-Grain Leather MagSafe Wallet for $59 : Bluebonnet says its magnets are extra strong and that your wallet will “never” slip off. Never is a bit of a stretch—shoving this into a tight pocket did shift it slightly off the iPhone. However, it is stronger than any other MagSafe wallet I've tried. It looks attractive, but it can only fit two cards, and it's hard to pull the cards out.

Best MagSafe chargers for your iPhone 2024

StandBy Mode makes them much better

Twelve South HiRise 3 Deluxe 3-in-1 MagSafe for StandBy Mode on top of night stand.

  • Best MagSafe chargers
  • What to look for
  • How we pick
  • Compatibility with older iPhones

Although wireless charging promised a more convenient and clutter-free way to charge your iPhone, the inconvenient truth, however, meant slower charging speeds than its wired counterparts. And you can find thousands of accounts across the internet of people thinking their iPhone is charging on their wireless charger only to find out their battery is still depleted because the phone wasn’t exactly lined up on the charger. Thankfully, best MagSafe chargers put all those worries to bed.

MagSafe chargers magnetically snap to the back of compatible iPhones, eliminating the possibility of not charging due to poor alignment. The best MagSafe Chargers for iPhone 15 also tout fast charging speeds up to 15W, which doubles the charging speeds of early gen wireless chargers. Of course, with new updates within iOS 17 , there is now a new reason to invest in a new MagSafe charger in 2023 — it's called StandBy Mode .

StandBy Mode turns your iPhone into a tabletop clock and calendar (which is quite convenient for your desk at work), a digital photo frame while you’re at home, and a handful of other possibilities. Additionally, you can continue to use your iPhone while it's charging. But here’s the coolest part: if you have multiple MagSafe chargers, let's say one in your office and one in your bedroom, your iPhone will automatically bring up your preferred StandBy Mode view for each location.

That way, when you charge via MagSafe at the office, your clock and calendar will display, but when you place it on your MagSafe charger in your bedroom, your digital photos will display instead. Pretty nifty, huh? No wonder MagSafe chargers are widely considered some of the best wireless chargers around.

As you can see, there are a handful of great reasons to ditch cable charging for good. Below are our recommendations for the best MagSafe chargers available to take full advantage of fast charging capabilities and StandBy Mode.

The best MagSafe chargers

Best overall

+ Charges multiple devices + 15W charging speeds + USB-C charging option

- Expensive

Having three different wall charging blocks to charge multiple devices at once is a pain, and a mess. The Anker 737 MagGo charger can charge your iPhone, while supporting StandBy Mode, charge your Apple Watch, and other USB-C enabled devices simultaneously. One device, one wall outlet. The 15W charger can bring an iPhone 14 Pro Max to 50% in less than an hour, and supports both vertical and horizontal viewing angles.

Great for Apple Devices

+ Can charge three devices at one + CryoBoost for battery health + Can turn off status light

- No USB-C charging option

The ESR 3-in-1 charger can simultaneously charge three devices at once. Its “CyroBoost” charging dissipates heat away from your iPhone, so it's less wear on the battery. You can even turn off the status lights and charge in “dark charging mode” to keep annoying lights at bay at night.

Most portable

+ Lightweight + Portable + Affordable

-  Slower charging speeds

The MOFT Magnetic Power Bank is a great option for MagSafe wireless charging on the go. It’s only 0.5 inches thick, adding little bulk to the back of your phone, and only weighs 0.09 pounds, so you won’t notice a heavy battery pack weighing your phone down either. This battery pack is stackable meaning you can snap other accessories onto it, such as a MagSafe Wallet Stand that can hold your ID and credit card as well.

Affordable Car Accessor y

+ Small footprint + Snaps to vent in car + Affordable

- Charges iOS devices slower than Android

For those who spend long hours commuting, whether to and from work or school, or transporting children around, the Mophie Snap+ keeps your phone conveniently charged while in the car. It clips onto your vent for convenient viewing. It comes with a snap adapter to quickly connect your phone to the charger with one hand. Keep in mind, its maxium 15W charging speed is reserved for Android phones, while iPhones experience slower 7.5W charging.

Best design

+ Charges three devices at once + Fast charging + Swiveling connector for adjustable viewing angles

- It's expensive

The Twelve South HiRise 3 Deluxe charging stand charges three devices wirelessly at once. You can attach your iPhone to the stand and adjust the connecting head for optimal viewing angles. The base features an Apple Watch charger and a separate 7.5W Qi Certified Wireless Charger for other wireless charging enabled devices. This is on the expensive side of MagSafe wireless chargers, but it’s also one of the best designed ones you'll find.

Best MagSafe Car Charger

+ Mounts to dashboard and windshield + Adjustable for multiple viewing angles + Works with Otterbox protective case

- Bulky design

This is an ideal MagSafe charger for rideshare drivers or for commuters. The mount can snap to either your dashboard, or your windshield, and is adjustable for you to get a prime viewing angle. And MagSafe compatible cases are able to snap onto the mount without having to remove the case. The charging speeds aren’t the fastest, but this MagSafe charger provides you with the most options for placement inside of your car.

 Clean Design

+ Looks great + Fast charging + Simple and small design

- Power adapter not included

Nomad designs some polished looking accessories and its MagSafe wireless charger is no exception. Plain and simple. Beyond its elegant design, it charges quickly boasting 15W of charging speeds to your connected iPhone. It’s also a sturdy and heavy charger weighing over a pound. Keep in mind, you’ll need to purchase the 20W wall adapter separately, which is a pain considering the stand itself costs over $100.

Best for home decor

+ Available in several colors + Dual device charging + Unique design

- Only 7.5W charging speeds

The best part about the Courant Mag 2 Charger is that there are several different colors to match wherever you decide to put the charger in your home or office. On top of that home decor friendly colorway, it also features dual wireless charging capabilities, so you can charge both your iPhone or AirPods. The phone charger boasts speeds up to 7.5W, while the base wireless charger charges devices at 5W.

Most versatile

+ Small size + Lightweight + Versatile

- Base doesn’t have rubber feet

Road warriors can have their wireless charging, too. With the Spigen OneTap, you can turn virtually any ledge, tabletop, or even the back of an airplane seat, into a place to wireless charge your phone. This small charging device has an adjustable clip to securely grab onto the edge of a tabletop. It’s small, lightweight, and even comes with a convenient carabiner for extra portability. And if you’re on an older flight that lacks inflight entertainment, this is the perfect hack to watch your favorite content on your phone by mounting it to the seat in front of you.

Made by Apple

+ Fast charging + Affordable + Wirelessly charges iPhone 8 and up

-  USB-C power adapter sold separately

Go straight to the source for your iPhone charging needs with the Apple MagSafe charger. It sports quick 15W MagSafe wireless charging, and surprisingly, considering it’s from Apple, the wireless charger is quite affordable too. The downside is it doesn’t ship with a 20W charging wall adapter, so you’ll need to purchase that separately.

What to look for in the best MagSafe Chargers

MagSafe chargers do more than wirelessly charge your phone. They can provide utility, versatility, and even help you declutter your workspace. The best MagSafe Chargers often have the ability to charge multiple devices at once. This is great for someone who has an iPhone, Apple Watch , and AirPods. Instead of taking up three wall or surge protector outlets, you can conveniently charge all three devices with a single MagSafe charging stand.

And if you’re looking for a MagSafe charger that limits downtime, look for a charger with charging speeds up to 15W. Also, it’s smart to double check whether a fast 15W MagSafe charger comes with a 20W charging block to power the wireless charger. Sometimes, you’ll need to buy that piece separately.

If you’re more concerned about wireless charging on the go, you’ll want to look for a MagSafe charger that can either mount in your car, or is portable enough to take with you. There are options great for tabletops, where you can take full advantage of iOS 17 and iPhone’s StandBy Mode, as well as portable options to charge and view your phone when you’re in the car, or even on an airplane.

How we pick the best MagSafe chargers

When we are considering MagSafe chargers, we account for price, how many devices it can charge, charging speed and portability. We also take into account special features like a pivoting charging head that allows you to change your viewing angles, or if the device comes in multiple color options.

Are these MagSafe chargers compatible with older iPhones?

Yes. MagSafe charging capabilities started with the iPhone 12 series of phones. If you have a MagSafe charger, and an iPhone 12 or newer, you won’t have any compatibility issues.

The Best Travel Tech Organizers to Keep Cords Neat and Tidy

It’s on every packing list , though we hardly need to write it down to remember it: a smartphone. Few of us travel without one these days, and more often than not, our technology haul extends beyond just a phone; a tablet or e-reader, digital camera, laptop, portable charger, and wireless headphones may be on the list, too. Whether you’re working remotely or not, chances are you’re bringing your entire digital setup with you. But throwing a tangle of cords and technology in your carry-on is a recipe for frustration when you find your face pressed up against the tray table, blindly searching for a charging cable in your under-seat bag.

Where there’s a digital device, there are its accessories, and tech organizers keep them tidy and easy to find while you’re in transit. If you like the organization of a toiletry bag for your body and skincare, why not a tech bag for your digital gear?

Travel tech organizers come in many different designs. There are hard-shell, soft-shell, folio, and roll-up varieties that are designed with different layers of pouches, elastics, zippers, and pockets. In my own experience, simple designs come out on top. Look for adjustable straps and pockets that will grow with you and your tech gear.

Everyone's needs are slightly different for their own digital Dopp kit, so you'll want to first take stock of your essentials. Lay all your gear out on a table to help determine what kind of bag will fit your tech travel setup. Then, read on for our most-recommended travel tech organizers.

Best overall

iphone travel charger case

Parker Clay’s bags are made of fine Ethiopian leather and abide by the highest standards of ethical manufacturing and sustainable sourcing. The leather goods brand partners with Ellilta Women at Risk (EWAR), to hire and train at-risk women in craftsmanship. Its bags are not only made sustainably (read more about the brand's leather production and sourcing here ), they’re also well-designed and timeless in their construction. The Guzo Utility Pouch is a chameleon of travel bags: Use it as a slim tech pouch that you can slide into any tote , or transform it into a handy clutch you bring to a cafe or out to dinner.

Standout features: A sleeve slips over your palm to make this bag cup into your hand, so it doesn’t slip out of your grasp while you hold it.

What we love most: It can transform into a chic clutch by night if you’re trying to pack a tight capsule wardrobe .

Dimensions: 10"L x .25"W x 7"H

Best budget pick

A tech organizer.

Tech organizers don’t have to be complicated, they just need to be easy to find in your bag when you need them. The Travelon tech accessory organizer in the color lime pops, and is easy to spot quickly, even in the dark. The roll-up design makes it compact and malleable in any bag. Made of ripstop fabric, the water- and stain-resistant exterior would also hold up on backpacking or outdoor trips if you’re stuffing it in a jam-packed hiking pack .

Standout features: The flexible roll-up design makes this ideal for tucking into empty corners of any backpack or bag.

What we love most: Malleable yet tough ripstop construction

Dimensions : 6.5"L x 1"W x 5"H

Best for remote workers

iphone travel charger case

If you’re a digital nomad , chances are your laptop goes with you everywhere, which means chargers and accessories are a must-carry too. This Mosiso laptop bag cuts down on the number of bags and cases you need: It’s a shoulder bag, cushioned laptop sleeve, and tech organizer all in one. Available in standard 13" and 16" sizes that fit most laptops, the Mosiso keeps your laptop in a cushy cocoon with 360-degree padding. On the outside, tuck all of your laptop accessories into soft zippered pouches. Big enough to hold external hard drives and battery packs, you won’t forget them when they’re attached to your laptop.

Standout features: Keep laptop accessories in the same place as your laptop to avoid fishing around for them in another bag. Carry it like a briefcase, or attach the sling strap and make it a day bag you can bike or walk with hands-free.

What we love most: A luggage sleeve that slips over your carry-on handle

Dimensions : 16.57”L x 11.81”W x 2.36”H

Best for photographers

iphone travel charger case

Peak Design is known for designing with the travel photographer in mind. The Peak Design tech pouch is a padded, semi-rigid carry-all that can stand upright on its own and opens like a clam with a 270-degree zipper. Interior accordion-like compartments are designed to separate key photography gear and snug elastics hug SD cards. A pen holder keeps a stylus handy in one place. Large pockets open up for charging blocks, power banks, and hard drives. An exterior zippered pouch holds need-to-reach items without unloading the whole bag. Peak Design’s proprietary anchor system and strap transform this tech pouch into a small day bag when you need it.

Standout features: A hand sleeve that slides over your palm makes this easy to open on the go without needing a flat surface to set it on. Plus, it can accommodate bulky items like a small point-and-shoot camera, a mouse, or a battery.

What we love most: The charging cable pass-through allows you to plug in your device from the outside without taking out the cable and battery.

Dimensions: 6"L x 9.5"W x 4"H

Best for Apple users

iphone travel charger case

Both a battery pack and a tech organizer, the Function 101 BentoStack Charge 8000 is a stackable hardshell case geared toward Apple loyalists. The Charge 8000 offers three ways to charge, which can be used simultaneously: a USB-C port, USB-A port, and wireless charging. Four different storage layers provide a space for everything, which includes two shallow layers for your Apple Pencil and Apple watchbands; and two deeper layers for larger items like AirPods, charging cables, and wall charging bricks. Mix and match the layers as you like, and keep it all together with a color-matched silicon band.

Standout features: Apple’s love for minimalist design makes this Japanese–inspired tech storage box blend in seamlessly with your products.

What we love most: It’s a hefty battery bank with handy attached storage, which keeps a suite of Apple accessories tidy and juiced up on the go.

Dimensions: 7.75"L x 3.75"W  x 4.6"H

Best for everyday use

iphone travel charger case

This mini tech organizer from Dagne Dover might as well live in your everyday tote. The Dagne Dover Arlo tech organizer in the small version is an agile addition to your travel kit because of its nimble size—tuck it into a belt bag, travel sling , or day pack without much added bulk. Designed to keep your laptop and phone basics handy, this neoprene organizer doesn’t leave extra space for items to slip around. Everything is kept snug using elastics and mesh pockets made of recycled plastic.

Standout features: Try it in two sizes—small and large, and swap them out for shorter or longer trips.

What we love most: The small size makes this easy to add to day bags, belt bags, or slings without taking up too much space or adding bulk.

Dimensions: Small: 4.5" L x 2.25"W x 5”H; large: 8"L x 3.25"W x 5.25"H

Best colorways

iphone travel charger case

Calpak’s travel tech organizer doesn’t reinvent the wheel here, but they do make it a lot more colorful and fun. This lay-flat organizer has elastics for storing rolled-up cords, and a zippered pouch perfect for USBs, hard drives, or charging bricks. The trouble won’t be figuring out how to organize your tech, it’ll be choosing from one of 16 different colorful patterns that show off your style and personality.

Standout features: A mesh pouch makes loose items easy to spot and grab quickly. Elastics and snug slip pockets keep anything from spilling out when you open it.

What we love most: The array of fun colors and classic patterns you can choose from.

Dimensions: 7"L x 9.5"W x 1.5"H

Best size options

iphone travel charger case

Wandrd started as a Kickstarter designing bags for on-the-go photographers . Today, its travel bags are useful for any traveler looking for durable, gear-protecting bags backed by a lifetime guarantee. The Wandrd tech bag is offered in three different sizes which can nest together, or be bought and used separately. Built with an array of straps and grab points on the outside, you can attach these to your backpack or weekender using basic carabiners. An optional strap transforms the Wandrd tech bag into a compact sling. Earthy, neutral colors like Aegean blue, Yuma tan, and Sedona orange are fun variations to basic black, though that is offered too.

Standout features: Choose from a small, medium, or large version depending on your needs. Or, nest them together for an agile set of organizers that grows with your packing list.

What we love most: The fleece-lined zippered pouch (in the large size) keeps your iPhone cushioned and scratch-free.

Dimensions : Small: 7.75"L x 2"W 4.5"H; medium: 9"L x  3"W x 4.5"H; large:  9"L x 4"W x 5.5"H

Best water-resistant case

Bellroy Tech Kit

This semi-hardshell case from Bellroy carries just the essentials in a compact design. Available in 11 neutral colors made from recycled water-resistant woven fabric, the Bellroy is built to last and backed by a three-year warranty. A floating interior wall forms the interior pocket and closes with a satisfying magnetic click. Elastics hold dongles and other small items you may be prone to losing at the bottom of a bag.

Standout features: A firm, padded exterior give you peace of mind that your tech won’t get knocked or jostled around—essential for hard drives. Everything has a place in this organizer that keeps your accessories from moving an inch.

What we love most: The three-year warranty and water-resistant exterior

Dimensions : 5.12"L x 9.06"W x 2.8"H

Best discreet organizer

iphone travel charger case

Disguised as a leather-bound book, the CaddySack tech organizer by Twelve South is great for those who like to sprawl out at the cafe but worry their AirPods might get swiped when they’re not looking. Zip up this organizer and it turns into an incognito book. Though CaddySack designs for Apple products, the interior Velcro straps aren't limiting, so whether you're packing a Mac brick, mouse, or travel outlet adapter, it'll fit right in. Suit up all your tech in a slick literary sleeve with the rest of its BookBook cases.

Standout features: A tweed interior and leather exterior give this tech organizer a polished look and feel.

What we love most: When you’re not traveling, this case looks great on an office bookshelf as an incognito way to keep cords together at home.

Dimensions : 5.7"L x 1.6"W x 8"H

iphone travel charger case

The Parker Clay Olivia organizer is thoughtfully designed in partnership with HGTV interior designer Sabrina Soto . Design and organization go hand-in-hand and it shows in this full-grain leather bag’s accordion construction. It separates little bits and bobs and offers quick access to everything at a glance. You don’t need two hands to unzip, unlatch, or pull open a pocket—a smart feature for hurried travelers. Grab a few of the six neutral colors and use them for toiletries, makeup, and your tech.

Standout features: Durable leather construction allows it to stand up on its own

What we love most: Details like a brass zipper pair well with full-grain leather that will age nicely with time.

Dimensions : 8.5"L x 3"W x 6"H

Travel + Leisure / Marcus Millan

There’s nothing worse than grabbing your phone or laptop while traveling and realizing your battery is completely drained. A portable charger is one of the most useful travel items, especially when you find yourself in a tricky situation with no access to an outlet. Whether you’re exploring in a campervan and need a hefty charger to handle your laptop, or boarding a plane and in need of something super compact to charge your smartphone, there’s a portable charger for all types of travelers’ needs so you don’t find yourself in a powerless pickle.

With so many choices on the market, we’ve narrowed down your search by prioritizing features like weight and size for portability, functionality, power, and battery capacity. These are the 14 best portable chargers of 2024 to make sure you stay connected wherever you go.

Best Overall

Nimble champ portable charger.

It’s lightweight and pocket-sized.

If you need more capacity, consider upgrading to the Pro version which provides 20,000 mAh.

The Nimble Champ is “smaller than a deck of cards” and incredibly lightweight, making it an ideal travel companion. This tiny but mighty backup charger comes in a spectrum of colors, allowing you to match it to your personality. It’s also extremely functional, with the ability to charge two devices at once and compatibility with a wide array of phones, tablets, Apple MacBooks, and fitness trackers. The dual USB-C power delivery offers high-speed charging to almost any device and the capacity to charge most smartphones up to three times. In fact, with this charger, you can get your smartphone back up to an 80 percent charge in just half an hour. The included lanyard makes it easy to tote around, whether on your wrist or attached to your bag. We also love that it’s crafted out of 90 percent certified recycled plastics with a free e-waste recycling option for your old, unused devices.

The Details: 3.38 x 2.28 x 0.98 inches  | 6.2 ounces | 10,000 mAh | 1 USB-C, 1 USB-A

Best With Built-in Cords

Charmast portable charger.

It can charge up to six devices at the same time.

The attached cords are short.

The slim and travel-friendly Portable Charger with Built-in Cables on Amazon is our top choice for those who need a variety of included cords for multiple devices. With six outputs and three inputs, this charging device is ideal for people with an array of different types of electronics, from smartphones to tablets, and micro devices. Its lightweight and slim profile make it easy to throw in your bag without taking up too much space. Each included cable can be tucked into the back of the device, keeping things organized so you don’t have to spend time untangling a mess of wires. Check the digital display screen to keep track of how much battery is left on your backup charger so you can plan appropriately (and it will take between four and a half to six hours to fully recharge). When at full capacity, this backup charger can power up your smartphone twice, your tablet up to 1.5 times, and much more.

The Details: 5.71 x 2.68 x 0.51 inches | 0.63 ounces | 10,000 mAh | USB-C, Micro USB, built-in charging USB-A cable (input); 2 USB-A and 1 USB-C and built-in Micro USB, USB-C, and Lightning cables (output)

Most Compact

Tntor portable charger for iphone.

It has a built-in lightning cable for charging iPhones.

Phones with USB-C ports (like Androids and newer iPhones) will need to supply their own C to C cable to charge.

The ultra slim Tntor Portable Charger for iPhone wins the award for “most compact” with a 6-millimeter thickness and credit card size. Specifically designed for iPhone users, the built-in cord means it’s ready to charge and you don’t have to tote around a separate cord. At 5,000 mAh, this charger is carry-on compatible and can charge not just your iPhone, but other lightning-equipped devices including an iPad, iPad mini, and AirPods. This is an ideal charger for those who don’t need to charge multiple devices and only need to top off their iPhone en route to their next destination. It offers one full charge when at 100 percent capacity and requires a three-hour charging time. The Intelligent Control Circuit feature protects your devices from overcharging, as well as other problematic issues such as over-voltage, short circuiting, temperature protection, and over-current.

The Details: 4.84 x 2.6 x .24 inches | 4 ounces | 5,000 mAh | USB-C (input); built-in Lightning cable (output)

Best Wireless

Podoru wireless portable charger.

Paired with a magnetic case, it can charge right on the back of your phone without a cord.

It will only work with a magnetic case (purchased separately) and is compatible with iPhone 12 series and higher.

Indulge in the luxury of leaving your cords behind with the Podoru Wireless Portable Charger that can power up to three devices with its magnetic charging capability. Compact with an impressive capacity to recharge your phone up to two and a half times, it’s an ideal option for travelers or those on the go for long stretches of time. The LED display shows how much battery is left in your charger — and, if you need to top off other devices in addition to your phone, two extra input and output ports allow you to do so. There are eight built-in low temperature ice cores and a protective safety system not just for temperature control, but also short circuit and overcharging protection as well. Thanks to its silicone shell, it’s easy to grip and with a soft exterior that won’t scrape your device when connected magnetically.

The Details: 5.67 x 3.43 x 0.94 inches | 6.5 ounces | 10,000 mAh | USB-A (output); USB-C (input/output)

Best With Stand

Aoguerbe magnetic power bank.

The stand is foldable and compact.

It’s a little bulkier than other models we’ve seen.

We love the folding stand that’s built into the design of the Aoguerbe Magnetic Power Bank. It allows you to charge your iPhone without the hassle of a bunch of cords when paired with a magnetic phone case. Charge up to three devices at a time, with the capacity to bring your iPhone to 100 percent up to two times per fully charged power bank. The included stand folds down to keep the compact profile of the power bank and can be used to keep your phone upright in either a vertical or horizontal orientation. The charger also won’t block your camera lens, so you can easily continue to use your phone while it’s being charged. Built-in temperature control and other safety protection helps ensure this device won’t damage your phone or overheat.

The Details: 4.09 x 2.68 x 0.86 inches | 6.7 ounces | 10,000 mAh | USB-C and Lighting (input); USB-C and USB-A (output)

Best for Tablets

Eggtronic laptop power bank.

It can charge your tablet up to four times.

Due to its powerful capacity, it’s larger and heavier than comparable power bank models.

We love the powerhouse Eggtronic Laptop Power Bank for so many reasons: it has the capacity to charge multiple devices twice as fast as standard models, and boasts a relatively compact size and sleek design. This universally compatible power bank can refuel the battery on not just your smartphone or tablet, but also laptops, cameras, bluetooth devices, and more. The LCD display shows the current battery life so you can stay up to date on its capacity. This durable device is a great travel companion for anyone; from professionals that need to stay in touch on the road, to those exploring the great outdoors on a multi-day camping trip. When it’s time to recharge the power bank itself, it’ll only take about three hours which is impressive for such a powerful device.

The Details: 6.75 x 4 x 0.63 inches | 1.34 lbs | 20,000 mAh | 2 USB-A (output); USB-C (input/output)

Best for Laptops

Anker 747 power bank.

It can fully charge an entire MacBook Air.

It’s rather heavy — and expensive — if not using it to charge laptops often.

For travelers who are working en route to their destination and need to keep their laptop consistently charged, the Anker 747 Power Bank is our top choice. Compatible with a wide range of brands including Dell and Apple, this power bank can refuel computer batteries in anywhere from two to three hours. Charge up to four devices at once, and enjoy the long-lasting capacity that can power an iPhone 13 Pro up to five times before needing to be charged itself. Paired with the included Anker 65W 515 wall charger, this power bank can reach 100 percent in two and a half hours versus more than 17 hours without. Built-in sensors offer advanced temperature control to make sure the device doesn’t overheat while the battery management system prevents overcharging.

The Details: 7.2 x 3.23 x 0.95 in | 1.34 pounds | 25,600 mAh | 2 USB-C, 2 USB-A

Best Multi-device Charging

Anker prime 27,650mah power bank.

It charges three devices at once.

This charger is over the mAh limit for traveling on some airplanes, so it’s best to check with the airline before bringing it with you on board.

For those who need a power bank that can charge multiple devices (and fast), the Anker Prime 27,650 mAH Power Bank is a fantastic choice. While not necessary to use, the accompanying app shows you up-to-date stats, and can also help to locate your power bank with sound alerts should you misplace it. This exceptionally functional power bank can recharge a smartphone more than four times and a MacBook Air more than once before needing to be reloaded. Using the dual USB-C ports, the power bank itself can be recharged in less than 40 minutes. As a bonus, this soda-can-sized charging bank comes with its own travel pouch. The built-in active shield prevents the charger from overheating and other safety issues.

The Details: 6.37 x 1.96 x 2.24 inches | 1.47 lbs | 27,650 mAh |  USB-C, Lightning (input); USB-C, USB-A (output)

Best Fast Charging

Ugreen 145w power bank.

It can charge a MacBook Air in 90 minutes.

While compact, it’s a bit heavier than other models.

Not only does the Ugreen 145W Power Bank charge devices quickly, but it also can be charged back to 100 percent in under two hours using the two-way fast charging. This requires an additional purchase of a 65W charger . Because it has 145 watts in output, it can recharge a laptop more than once and a smartphone more than five times all at a rapid speed. The smart digital display keeps you in the loop with how much battery is left in the power bank. It’s also compatible with so many devices, from smartphones to drones, that you won’t be limited with what you can charge as you travel. With three ports, you can charge a few devices at a time as well.

The Details: 6.3 x 3.18 x 1.05 inches | 1.11 lbs | 25,000 mAh | 1 USB-C, 1 USB-A (output); 1 USB-C (input/output)

Best LED Display

Vnbbt magnetic wireless power bank.

The display shows both the available charge left on the device and the progress of the item it’s charging.

It’s not compatible with non-magnetic phone cases.

Take the guesswork out of charging when using the Vnbbt Magnetic Wireless Power Bank, thanks to its incredibly accurate LED display feature. It can be fully charged for your travels within two and a half to four hours. Its ultra compact, lightweight design makes it easy to bring along with you. The material is non-slip so you don’t have to worry about grip being an issue while using the magnetic charger paired with a magnetic phone case. The display is simple, quickly informing you of how much charge is left to go and how much is on the power bank itself so you can plan accordingly. Charge your iPhone in less than 45 minutes and power up two other devices at the same time.

The Details: 7.87 x 3.94 x 0.79 inches | 8.1 ounces | 10,000 mAh | USB-C (input/output), USB-A (output), and magnetic wireless charging

Best for Android

Iwalk small usb c portable charger.

It’s lipstick-sized and very portable.

The battery life isn’t that impressive compared to other power banks.

Specifically designed for Android users, this tiny portable charger easily fits in a bag or even your pocket. The iWalk charger is cordless as well, so you don’t need to provide a cord or untangle wires when you want to use it; simply plug it directly into the USB-C port. Although there isn’t an LED display to show the percentage of battery left, there are indicator lights to track the power level. It’s designed to prevent over-charging, short circuiting, and temperature control while using as well, so you can have peace of mind if you need to step away. In general, it takes approximately two and a half hours to recharge this portable device.

The Details: 3 x 1.8 x 1 inches | 0.071 ounces | 4,500 mAh | USB-C (input), USB-C (output)

Best With A/C Outlet

Sinkeu portable laptop phone charger.

It includes an actual plug as well as a cord for charging via a car cigarette lighter.

There are no slots for a USB-C.

For a power bank with an actual built-in plug, the SinKeu 65 Watt Portable Laptop Phone Charger is our top pick because of its portability and versatility. This power bank is fantastic for charging laptops, tablets, and other compatible devices like certain camera batteries (65 watts and under) that need a typical plug port. The 12V port is great for recharging speakers and other devices that require that output, while the 5V port is perfect for refueling your cell phone up to eight times before needing to be recharged itself. For compatible laptop models, it can provide a full charge twice, making this a great option for travelers with a wide array of devices. The included cigarette lighter plug makes it possible to recharge this power bank in your car as well. To fully recharge, it takes approximately four hours.

The Details: 6.8 x 3.8 x 1.8 inches | 1.1 lbs | 24,000 mAh | 2 USB-A, 110V AC outlet, 15V (input), 12V (output)

Best Colors

Charmast small portable charger.

It’s small and comes in a fun spectrum of colors.

It’s difficult to plug your phone into the charger if you have a case.

We love the colors and size of the Charmast Small Portable Charger that can easily fit in your pocket or purse. This charger has the ability to be fully recharged within an hour and a half when using a 9V-2A fast charger (or three hours with a standard one). Although it doesn’t have the capacity to fully power your smartphone back to 100 percent, it can provide up to 65 percent charge which is a great option for most travelers who just need to top up a device throughout their journey. It can, however, recharge AirPods up to six times. With no additional cords needed, plug it directly into your phone’s lightning port (and it’s also offered with a USB-C instead for Google, Samsung or iPhone 15 devices). With colors like pink, green, blue, orange, black, and white, you can match this portable charger to your phone’s case (or whatever suits your mood!)

The Details: 1.38 x 3.03 x 0.97 inches | 4.7 ounces | 5,000 mAh | USB-C (input), Lightning port (output)

Best With Wall Plug

Brand q ultra slim portable charger.

It’s ultra slim and offers 5-in-1 types of charging.

The built-in cords are stiff and not easy to manipulate.

We love that the built-in wall plug on the Q Slim Portable Charger folds into the power bank to keep a slim profile for transport and that this option comes with its own case. With three included cords, this universal charger is ideal for all types of phones, and you won’t have to bring additional cords along on your adventures. Most phones can be charged between two and a half to four times before needing to recharge the power bank. The included “Intelligent Power Management IC” makes sure your devices will be protected from short circuit, overheating, and overcurrent issues while in use. Another great feature is that you can charge your phone from the power bank while also charging the power bank from the wall plug.

The Details: 6.29 x 2.95 x 0.6 inches | 12.1 ounces |  10,000 mAh | Micro USB, AC (input); Lightning, USB-C, Micro USB (output)

Tips for Buying Portable Chargers

Consider charge potential and timing.

When shopping for a portable power bank, one of the main features to look out for is the capacity for fully charging your devices, especially your smartphone. If you have long travel days with little opportunity to plug your phone in and your backup charger can only offer half a charge to top it off, that may not work for you. Another thing to consider is how long it will take to recharge each of your important devices, as well as the length of time it will take to recharge the power bank itself. Most people can recharge a power bank overnight if it takes more than a couple of hours, but you need to look at your precise needs while on the go.

Decide how much capacity you need

All of the numbers referring to capacity in mAh and watt hours can be a little tricky to understand when deciding what you’ll need. The term mAh means “milliampere-hour” and measures the units of electric charge, or how much power it can hold. This will be the difference between being able to charge just one device at a time versus multiple, and/or charging your phone multiple times or even a laptop at all. If you just need to top off your phone and keep it from getting to zero percent, something below 5,000mAh should do the trick. If you need to charge your phone constantly or have more than one device, something more than 10,000mAh might be for you.

Since the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) have rules for rechargeable batteries and power banks measured in the max watt hours allowed, you’ll need to know how to convert the mAh listed for the power bank or charger into watt hours to see if your device can come along with you. To do this, you’ll need to multiply milliamp hours by volts then divide by 1,000. So, if you take the Eggtronic Laptop Power Bank listed above, it’s 20,000mAh at 5V, making it equivalent to 100 watt hours.

The FAA and TSA state that any spare battery with more than 100 watt hours or 27,000mAh needs to have approval from the airline.

Look at the types and numbers of ports

One of the most important aspects of choosing a power bank is to make sure it will be compatible with your devices. The last thing you want is to purchase a back-up charger that’s only suitable for an iPhone when you have an Android. There are numerous options that offer more than one type of port. The most common inputs and outputs are USB-A and USB-C, as well as lightning ports (for Apple devices). Some models offer a wall plug or cigarette lighter adapter as well, perfect for those who need to charge a device from the car or have to charge something with a physical plug.

It’s important to note that regulations will have lightning ports outdated for future iPhones due to the European Union’s ruling that all smartphones need to have the USB-C charging port in common.

A portable charger or power bank is a great back-up solution to ensure you don’t run out of battery on your devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops. They provide an extra lithium-ion battery-powered source that can connect to a wide array of devices, depending on their ports or magnetic charging capabilities. When connected, they transfer their stored energy to the electronic device plugged in. Typically, they are small enough to fit in your bag without taking up too much space, and some are even compact enough to fit in your pocket.

Yes, it’s possible to bring most portable chargers on an airplane, though there are restrictions to abide by: it’ll have to stay in your carry-on luggage that you’ll have with you in the cabin, as it can’t be in a checked bag. It also can’t possess more than 100Wh (watt-hours) or 27,000 mAh capacity. If your power bank has a larger capacity than this, you’ll need approval from the airline.
