Disney World’s EPCOT After Hours Review

What is epcot after hours.

Disney World After Hours Events are special ticketed events at Disney World parks primarily designed to allow guests greater access to the best rides at each park. Typically, the events run from 7PM-1AM. From 7PM to 9PM, After Hours guests are in the park with regular guests. From 9PM-1AM, the park is limited to After Hours guests, resulting in a much lower crowd and shorter ride times.

The EPCOT After Hours event is the event that takes place, obviously, at EPCOT. It’s currently offered two to three times a month and costs around $150, depending on the week. We took our two older kids to the event back in July, and it was a great experience. Go directly to the Disney source for more information.

Now, I’ll explain what is, and what is not, available at EPCOT during the After Hours Event.

What is included in After Hours at EPCOT?

For the After Hours event at EPCOT, significant portions of the park will be shut down. Again, the main attractions are the rides. At EPCOT, almost the entire World Showcase is shut down except for the countries with rides (Norway, Mexico, and France) and a little bit of England. It’s so shut off, that they won’t let you walk from Norway to France.

What it lacks in international trinkets, it tries makes up for in free stuff. You get unlimited popcorn, ice cream novelties (like Mickey Bars), bottled Coke products, and bottled water for free.

Rides at EPCOT After Hours

A mother in daughter pause for a picture in next in line for guardians of the galaxy: cosmic rewind at epcot in Disney World during an EPCOT After Hours event. You can see the blue and gold roller coaster in the background.

Here’s a list of the available rides EPCOT After Hours:

Frozen Ever After Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Living with the Land Mission: SPACE Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure The Seas with Nemo & Friends Soarin’ (located in The Land Pavilion) Spaceship Earth Test Track Presented by Chevrolet®

This is why we took our family to Disney After Hours at EPCOT. We wanted to ride all the rides, especially Guardians. We headed straight there before they closed the park and rode it twice. Then the line became really long, so we returned later and rode it two more times.

A screenshot of the wait times for rides at EPCOT during and Disney After Hours events. You will never see these rides have this little of a wait time. Even Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is only 35 minutes. Everything else is under 30 min

Here’s a quick screenshot from my phone of the wait times for rides at around 11:30. Guardians was higher at the beginning but slowly went down as the night progressed.

I brought a BOB stroller for my 8- and 10-year-old to make sure we didn’t waste any time. They are more than capable of walking, but I wasn’t walking.

A dad in a Disney polo pushes his daughters in a BOB stroller during Disney After Hours EPCOT. Everyone is smiling awkwardly but excited to ride Frozen Ever After and Test Track.

Just me, cramming 130 lbs. worth of kids into a BOB stroller, so we can get to the rides faster. We left the baby with a sitter. This is why the BOB stroller is the best stroller for Disney World .

It was a relatively busy day at EPCOT prior to our event (Food and Wine had just started), so we didn’t ride any rides prior to 9:00. However, we were able to ride Frozen, Guardian x4, Test Track, Soarin’, Figment, Ratatouille, and Spaceship Earth. I feel like 10 rides in 4 hours wasn’t bad because we stopped for partying and snacks and bathrooms (from all the free Coke and water) quite a lot.

Here’s the downside. Guardians doesn’t really ever become a walk-on ride because it takes a while to get through the pre-show and wait after the pre-show, so we couldn’t cycle it like we hoped. Still, 4 is good.

An image of Terry Crews making a crazy face during the preshow for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind preshow during After Hours for EPCOT at Disney World.

I learned that Terry Crews saying Epcotians while the all the drunks scream “day drinkers” gets a little old when you ride this ride 4 times in 90 minutes.

Next, it was our subjective experience (and reported by other bloggers) that the rides during After Hours events tend to break down a lot. Frozen went down while we were there, and we had several minutes long stops on both Figment and Ratatouille. I imagine it’s because the rides have been running for 12-14 hours at this point.

You’ll probably see that as a downside, but my daughters love a certain Youtuber named TPM who posts people’s accounts of “in-show exits” or when people have to get evacuated from a broken ride. They were desperately hoping to have footage to share.

EPCOT After Hours Party Experience

The party experience at EPCOT consists of a live DJ playing music with club lights. Most of the time it was happening Chip and Dale were dancing with guests as well. I was resistant to dancing because I wanted to ride more rides, but my daughters loved it. Here’s some footage of them hanging out with them.

EPCOT After Hours World Showcase Experience

As I mentioned above, one of the big downsides of the EPCOT After Hours is that the World Showcase is mostly closed during the event. If you love to wander around EPCOT, trying all the food and seeing the amazing pavilions, then this will be a huge disappointment to you.

Since the event is geared towards getting to ride as many rides as possible, this makes sense. It reduces staff and energy needs and focuses all the attention on World Discovery/Celebration/Nature and the three rides in the World Showcase.

EPCOT After Hours Snack and Drink Experience

While the snack and drink choices are limited, getting unlimited free food of any kind at Disney World makes you feel like you’re staying club level. We drank several waters each (it was still a little hot in July at midnight), a few Coke Zeros to stay awake, and plenty of popcorn and ice cream. Mickey Bars are my go-to classic Disney treat, so this was a huge win for me. They had several stations throughout the park that all offered the same thing.

Second Dad to the Right Tip: If you want to take some drinks or snacks home with you at the end of the night, you can, but they’ll close the snack stations about 30 minutes before they close the park.

Is EPCOT After Hours Good for Kids?

I think this event is perfect for kids IF they are really into rides and handle staying up late. It’s a lot of walking late at night, and there’s no real nutrition to be had. You really have to know your kids and what they’re capable of. It’s a lot of money to spend if they tap out at 11PM. Bring healthy snacks if you need that your kids need that.

It was amazing for our kids. We took our 8- and 10-year-old, and they handled it well. We did make the younger one take a nap before we started the night. We did a Magic Kingdom After Hours night in January without a nap, and I had to carry her from Liberty Square to the bus stop without a stroller, but she did great at EPCOT with a stroller (I know she’s old. It was for me to push them fast.).

Things to Consider

Here’s a few things to consider if your planning on booking and After Hours.

Rain can ruin this event at most parks, but since most of the rides at EPCOT are inside, they should still be active no matter the weather. However, if you don’t want to transverse the park in the rain, wait until closer to your trip to book the event. EPCOT is the least popular After Hours event, so it’s unlikely to sell out.

I’m not a travel agent, but if you have an agent you like, let them book the event for you. They get commission on parties even though they don’t get commission on regular one day tickets.

We love doing the After Hours events during the summer time. Summer is miserably hot in Orlando, so doing night events like After Hours or the night event at the water parks is a great option to get Disney magic without the sweat.

Speaking of summer, click here if you’re looking for other ways to deal with the heat at Disney .

What To Do with First Two Hours

Remember that the After Hours event starts at 9PM when everyone else is leaving the park. However, you’re allowed to enter the park at 7PM. So what should you do for the first two hours?

Chances are that the lines for rides will be really long during the regular park day. Therefore, use your time to enjoy the parts of EPCOT that will shut down during the After Hours event, such as the pavilions, the food booths, the great drinks, and maybe even a

We went in July on the first day of the Food and Wine festival, so we got to experience some great food before the party started. Eating on top of trash cans is the best.

One of my best friends was running several booths in between Morocco and France during the Food and Wine Festival. https://www.instagram.com/husband_dad_disneycastmember/

Can you use Genie Plus or DAS at After Hours Events?

You can’t use Genie Plus. Since everything is very short lines (except the top tier rides) you don’t really need it anyway.

You can use DAS. In fact, if you qualify for DAS, you can get much more value out an After Hours event. You can get a call back time for a lightning lane at Guardians, and then do other rides while you wait. Disney really shines in their ability to help those with disabilities.

For more information about Genie Plus, Lightning Lanes, and DAS, check out this article.

Verdict: Is EPCOT After Hours Worth It?

So, is the Disney After Hours at EPCOT worth it? For us, we wanted access to the rides, so we say yes. At the time of writing, Guardians of Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is still virtual queue, so getting to ride that repeatedly is amazing. On top of that, there’s always long lines for Frozen, Test Track, and Ratatouille, which was not the case at After Hours.

If you love EPCOT for the World Showcase and not the rides, then this will be a disappointment to you. EPCOT is my favorite park, partially for the rides, but mostly for the food and beautiful aesthetics.

We loved this After Hours event, but we wouldn’t do it more than once a year unless they released another new ride.

Conclusion and Further Reading

Hopefully this gives you an idea as to the great experiences in an After Hours event and prepares you to enjoy it.

Evening Extended Hours at Magic Kingdom Photo Report

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Extended Evening Theme Park Hours are now available for select resort guests at Walt Disney World. This Magic Kingdom photo report offers a look at what we accomplished during the evening Extra Magic Hours replacement, strategy & tips, and more.

As background, Extended Evening Theme Park Hours has a smaller pool of eligibility than its morning counterpart and also occurs less frequently. This new perk began for the start of the World’s Most Magical Celebration 50th Anniversary festivities, and is exclusively for guests staying at Walt Disney World Deluxe Resorts, Deluxe Villas (Disney Vacation Club units), and other select hotels (currently only the Swan & Dolphin and Shades of Green).

Extended Evening Theme Park Hours occur two nights per week in total. Every Monday at Epcot from 10:00 pm until midnight and every Wednesday at Magic Kingdom from 9 pm until 11 pm. Guests staying at Value or Moderate Resorts are not eligible for Extended Evening Hours.

As mentioned in our Early Theme Park Entry at Magic Kingdom Photo Report , we did a stay at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows in one of the newly-remodeled studios and managed to take advantage of both Early Theme Park Entry and Extended Evening Hours in the same day.

Rather than boring you with the middle of our day sitting around doing nothing, we’ll fast forward to post-Disney Enchantment, when we got started with Extended Evening Theme Park Hours at Magic Kingdom…

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Currently, Disney Enchantment is shown at 8 pm nightly, which appears to be the fireworks time through the holiday season. That leaves around 40 minutes between the end of fireworks and park closing, which gives day guests a chance to jump in line for one last ride before exiting. Most do not take advantage, instead heading for the exits as wait times continue to drop in that last half hour.

Consequently, we found that wait times through Magic Kingdom were already pretty low at the beginning of Extended Evening Theme Park Hours.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Starting at 9 pm, there were Cast Members stationed outside each attraction entrance, scanning MagicBands, hotel room keys, etc. Unlike Early Entry, this happens at every single attraction throughout the night–not just once upon arrival. (The difference is that other guests are already in the park, so that’s the only feasible way to determine eligibility.)

This is exactly how evening Extra Magic Hours worked in the past; no significant changes here.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

For the most part, I’m not going to do a step-by-step recap of our night in Magic Kingdom, as just about everything was a walk-on. Because of that, I didn’t keep the best notes on everything we did and when, so my times might be slightly off, anyway.

By ~9:30 pm, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was not only a walk-on, but it was a “pick any row you want” walk-on that was running trains about half-full. By 10 pm, they were one third full.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

It was a pretty similar story all around Magic Kingdom.

The most time consuming aspect of the evening was scanning room keys or MagicBands outside each attraction, and then walking through the queue. It was pretty rare to have any wait time beyond that.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Our last ~30 minutes of the night were pretty eventful.

It started with racing over to Space Mountain at about 10:25 pm. As I approached the queue, the vast majority of guests entering the line were coming out of the exit–looping the ride! I was on in however much time it takes to walk through that lengthy queue. Another walk-on wait.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

From there, it was on to Peter Pan’s Flight.

We had been watching this one earlier, noticing that for the first hour, the line was extending a bit into the outdoor queue. By the time we arrived, the entire indoor queue was empty, and we waited 4 minutes. When we exited, no one was in line–it would’ve been a walk-on as of around 10:50 pm.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Because I just can’t help myself, we opted against jumping in line for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at 10:52 pm.

Instead, we rushed back to Be Our Guest Restaurant because I noticed all the umbrellas were down (odd observation, but I’m an odd person), which is pretty rare–even at night. I took photos for a few minutes there.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

At 10:59 pm, we ran back over and got in line for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. The posted wait time at this point was 20 minutes.

Unfortunately, this one was not a walk-on. Our actual wait ended up being 7 minutes. We breezed through the cool queue under the shade of the night sky–a significantly superior experience to what we would’ve had in the morning sun with a 65 minute posted wait. (This is also shorter than the 11 minute wait we experienced at Boo Bash!)

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

In terms of strategy, those last three steps are all you really need to know.

Space Mountain, Peter Pan’s Flight, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train were the only attractions we encountered with any sort of notable wait times at any point during the night, so simply do those towards the end.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Astro Orbiter is another good attraction to hit during Extended Evening Theme Park Hours at Magic Kingdom. Both because of its normal daytime wait times and because it’s so much better at night.

Judging by what we saw and heard in talking to other guests, you could probably start doing Space Mountain much earlier. (We talked to one guest who looped it four times, doing each side twice with no wait.)

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Either by popular guest demand or executive order, Country Bear Jamboree is open during Extended Evening Theme Park Hours at Magic Kingdom. Unfortunately, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover is not. If ever there were a good time to fire up the ole change.org machine, this is it!

Pro tip: when the corridors are open, it is very easy to watch Disney Enchantment from Town Square, and then use the right bypass to swim upstream into Tomorrowland for a spin on the TTA right before park closing as the crowds clear out. We’ve done exactly this several times in the last few weeks/months post-fireworks, and highly recommend it. Much better than dealing with the long lines for (real) transportation right after the fireworks.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

While we managed to do 8 attractions during Extended Evening Theme Park Hours at Magic Kingdom, we undoubtedly could’ve accomplished even more were we laser-focused on our ride count.

Instead, we wandered and took a lot of photos, enjoying a nice night and Magic Kingdom’s spectacular after dark atmosphere. we’d visit Magic Kingdom every single night just to enjoy this serenity if we could. The park truly had the vibe of a “free” After Hours event!

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Ultimately, we had an absolute blast at Magic Kingdom during the Extended Evening Theme Park Hours, and would highly recommend anyone find a way to do this. Those who already have a Deluxe Resort stay booked won’t have to look too hard to “find” the perk–that sentiment is for those with resort reservations elsewhere.

This perk is hugely advantageous and enjoyable, well worth “splurge status.” In fact, for those who enjoy empty parks, low crowds, and/or nighttime ambiance, there are very few things that come to mind as better splurges at Walt Disney World right now.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Honestly, if I were on the fence about purchasing Disney Very Merriest After Hours tickets for the low crowd component and read this report, I’d book a night at a participating resort instead.

It’s obviously not an apples to apples comparison, but the crowd level felt very comparable to past After Hours events we’ve done. While this lacks the entertainment, some attractions, and is shorter–it also doesn’t cost $169 per person ( and up! ).

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

As a bit of an aside, I’m also not overly concerned that “word will get out” due to positive reviews like this one and Extended Evening Theme Park Hours at Magic Kingdom will become unbearably crowded. Although we attended the first night, we did so in the immediate aftermath of Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary kickoff, at a time when the most ardent fans and “WDW literate” guests are visiting.

Occupancy rates are high right now and guests staying on-site are almost certainly more knowledgeable than the norm. While things could always change for the worse down the road, I have a hard time imagining that this will become appreciably more crowded in the next few months due to word of mouth. But, I’ve been wrong plenty of times in the past!

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Our incredibly positive experience with Extended Evening Theme Park Hours at Magic Kingdom already has us scheming about ways to experience this again during the Christmas season. Unfortunately, we’re all out of DVC points and the dearth of room discounts gives us pause, but there are some attractive options.

Potential options include doing Disney Vacation Club Point Rentals (it’s pretty much only confirmed reservations now) or hoping something comes up via Priceline Express Deals or Hotwire Hot Rates .

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Another idea that we really like is doing a split stay, splurging on a night at a Deluxe Resort (see How to Do Split Stays at Walt Disney World Hotels ). You could also pair that with Club Level at a Magic Kingdom area resort, taking advantage of the early/late hours and enjoying the club during the middle of the day.

With just a few tweaks to our itineraries, we could’ve accomplished every worthwhile attraction in Magic Kingdom during the first 3 hours of the day plus the last 3 hours of the night. We could’ve still done breakfast in one of the Club Level lounges, while also enjoying a pool day and every other food and drink spread (save for desserts). That would be an awesome way to TREAT YO SELF.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Obviously, no one likes losing access to a perk, but the only reason Extended Evening Theme Park Hours at Magic Kingdom are this enjoyable is because it’s limited to a small subset of guests. Evening Extra Magic Hours were crowded to the point of being practically useless and unenjoyable in their last couple of years.

This was way better than that, and also superior to the new early entry offering. That’s despite this only occurring one night per week and thus “consolidating” crowds into that single evening.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

There have been a lot of complaints about Extended Evening Theme Park Hours being “elitist,” and we can understand that to an extent. In fairness, no one seemed to bat an eye in the past at on-site perks that excluded cheaper off-site hotels–it’s not like that was exactly egalitarian.

Moreover, there are ways to take advantage of this perk on a Value or Moderate Resort budget. The Swan & Dolphin are included here, and those are often less expensive hotels. You can also do Priceline deals or DVC rental, both of which can offer Deluxe or Villa level accommodations at Moderate prices. (From my perspective, the much more valid grievance is that Walt Disney World continues to cut perks while raising prices. You’ll get no argument from me on that one!)

Do you know if the shops stay open after the extended evening hours are over?

' src=

Can value guest shop while the deluxe guests are riding rides?

' src=

Yes, you can stay and shop. Rides/attractions are the only items that require magic band/hotel key. If you take advantage of the full two hours just hanging at the park, note that the value/moderate buses will not be running and you will have to take Lyft/Uber.

' src=

Do you know if guests are able to attend extended evening hours at night on the day they check out? Thank you!

' src=

I believe all guests no matter where you stay should be able to enjoy the extended evening hours. Just because I cannot afford to stay at a deluxe resort I still pay for my hotel room and all rooms should receive the same park experiences. I feel this is one more way Disney is trying to attract guests who have a bigger budget and keep out the middle class. They are making this experience too expensive for the working family.

They need to remember who got them to this threshold of their company. What they are doing is discrimination. I work like most people 51 weeks a year and save to go for 1 week to Disney about every 2 years, I feel very disappointed that they are making these changes.

' src=

The concept isn’t that unusual. Universal Studios does the same thing (in a way). Their version of the paid Fast Pass is more expensive than Disney’s, but you can get it for free if you stay in the top tier resorts, which are equivalent to Disney’s Deluxe resorts.

' src=

Do you know if Swan Reserve, when it’s open, will have the same perks as the Swan and Dolphin?

' src=

Hi, glad to read that you had such a pleasant and uncrowded experience. It sounds as if this perk is Disney’s answer to Universal’s included Express Pass for guests staying in one of Universal’s deluxe level resorts. Disney wouldn’t be able to exactly copy the Universal playbook, likely because of the sheer number of deluxe rooms at Disney World but this sounds like a good alternative. And naturally, this iteration doesn’t cannibalize Disney Genie+ monetization.

' src=

We are booked at French Quarter thanksgiving week. We have toyed with switching to Pop as there have been periodic openings there this past week. There really isn’t an incentive to pay top dollar for a moderate right now and staying at a value is a huge savings. (Deluxe is not an option for us). My question is….I’m hesitant to switch in case Disney adds moderates to this extra evening hours perk. I doubt that would happen because all of those who booked deluxe for that perk might be livid. Has Disney put a date on it just being deluxe? Or has it been marketed as such Indefinitely?

' src=

My husband and I have saved to be able to spend our upcoming trip at Wilderness Lodge – looking forward to this perk!

' src=

Always great to have an honest perspective of what’s going on in the parks currently.

' src=

I know this is probably an impossible question to answer but do you have any input on how likely it is that this perk will last throughout the 50th anniversary and continue on Mondays and Wednesdays? Trip planned for first week of December 2022 with a split stay at grand floridian for MK day and Riviera for Epcot day and just rearranged my itinerary based on your awesome review (thanks so much for what you do!). We’re renting DVC points so will basically be locked in to those dates almost a year in advance.

' src=

We’re doing a split stay and upgrading from Pop Century to Wilderness Lodge for my 50th, but our stay at WL will be Thursday through Sunday, so no Extended Evening Hours for us since those are always Mondays & Wednesdays.

' src=

Totally agree with Tiffany. I’m going to let Disney know and hopefully so will a lot of other people.

' src=

Disney is becoming increasingly classist. With each decision, they are telling their customers what they think of them based on their income level. And I’m saying this as someone who could definitely afford to stay at a deluxe resort if I wanted to. Hope this approach fails. The magic is waning.

' src=

I already loved the Swan & Dolphin, but now I’m even happier that I booked Dolphin for a short girls’ trip in January!

' src=

So we splurged on the Grand Floridian and I must agree it is definitely worth the 2 evening hours! Although my goodness I did not realize how outdated the outdoor buildings of GF are!

' src=

Your pictures are amazing! I originally had Wednesday as a ‘no park’ day for us but changed that when it looked like extended evening hours would continue into December. Sounds like I made the right decision. As always, thanks for sharing your experiences!

Disney After Hours at Epcot (dates, cost, how to plan your time)

Disney After Hours at Epcot (dates, cost, how to plan your time)

Disney After Hours  is a special event held on select dates at Epcot in the evenings. It’s not exactly an affordable option, and depending on how your evening goes, many not even find it worth the price. After all, not every Disney After Hours event is created equal.

This special-ticketed event gives guests the chance to ride their favorite attractions and experience the entire theme park with much lower crowds compared to what they look like during the day.

Here’s information on what Disney After Hours is, how much it costs, who should plan to attend, and a suggested itinerary if you decide to go.

In this article

What is Disney After Hours at Epcot?

Disney After Hours is a specially ticketed event (meaning it’s a ticket that is purchased separate from regular park tickets) that allows people to enter Epcot starting at 7 p.m. and staying until 1 a.m.

Only a limited number of tickets are sold for the event. We’ve attended many After Hours at Walt Disney World and we can safely say that the parks are not overwhelmed with crowds during these events. The crowds are quite low, meaning so are the wait times for many of your favorite attractions.

Disney After Hours Cost

Current ticket prices are:

  • $149-$159 plus tax per adult or child (depending on date)

There are some discounts available, though.

Annual Passholders  and  Disney Vacation Club (DVC)  members can purchase tickets for $119-$129 (depending on the date), which is a great way to save money.

How to get tickets

  • Tickets for 2024 After Hours events are now on sale for dates through April 22. Ticket sales for dates April 22–August 29th open up by phone for onsite guests, guests of the Swan and Dolphin, and guests of Shades of Green on January 24.
  • Online ticket sales for EVERYONE (including offsite guests) open up on January 31, 2024.

When it comes time to purchase tickets, you have a couple of options:

You can purchase them from your travel professional (we recommend  Small World Vacations ).

Or, if you’d rather, tickets can be  purchased online  or by calling 407-827-7185.

Disney After Hours dates and times

The Disney After Hours event at Epcot starts at 10:00 p.m. and ends at 1:00 a.m. in 2024. You can enter the park with just your party ticket beginning at 7:00 p.m.

When can you enter Epcot for After Hours?

With an After Hours ticket for Epcot, you can enter the park with just your event ticket starting at 7 p.m.

If you can, we definitely suggest entering the park at this time because it allows you 3 additional hours before the even officially begins and gives you extra time to enjoy more rides, see the fireworks, and even grab something to eat.

When you arrive, look for the “After Hours” signs at the tapstiles.

You’ll  scan your MagicBand  or ticket and receive your special “After Hours” wristband at that time.

Checking in

There are two places to check in for After Hours at Epcot.

If you arrive via the front of the park, simply follow the signs and head towards the respective tapstiles.

For anyone walking to Epcot, taking a boat, or arriving by Skyliner, you’ll also be able to check in at the International Gateway.

Once you’ve checked in, you will be given a wristband, which you will have to show at the official start of the event when entering lines. Those without wristbands will be asked to exit the park.

Don’t forget to also pick up a Disney After Hours map so you know you’ll be able to experience during the event.

Planning on arriving earlier than 7 p.m.?

If you have a regular park ticket for that day, and you’ll be spending the afternoon before the check-in time at Epcot, you shouldn’t have to go all the way back to the front to check in.

There will be check-in locations inside the park as well, including at some of the Guest Experience spots (blue umbrellas). If you’re not exactly sure where to go, just ask a Cast Member, and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

People without the proper credentials won’t be allowed to enter any of the lines, and it doesn’t take long at all for the park to clear out of non-Disney After Hours participants, though you should plan on there being some overlap between day guests and the beginning of the event.

Free Drinks & Snacks

One of the best parts of Disney After Hours events are the free snacks and drinks!

These include ice cream novelties (think Mickey ice cream bars and ice cream sandwiches), popcorn, and select bottled beverages (Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, water). Yes, this is all “free,” aka included in the cost of your ticket.

free snacks and drinks at epcot after hours

Sometimes the lines at the carts can get long, but they move quickly. It is also a good tip to just keep walking to the next cart if you don’t want to wait.

Quick Service Locations

There are other select dining locations open, where you can enjoy food and drinks — but for an additional cost.

rose and crown during epcot after hours

While most Quick Service and Table Service spots are closed, you can find the following open during Epcot After Hours:

  • Connections Eatery and Café (until 10 p.m.)
  • World Discovery Hot Dog Cart
  • Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe (select menu items available)
  • Yorkshire County Fish Shop (until 11 p.m.)
  • Rose & Crown Pub

Sometimes the full menu may not be available, so keep that in mind.

Planning your time

Here’s how we think you can best use your time.

  • Arrive at Epcot just before 7:00 p.m. so you can enter the park as soon as you can.
  • Visit any of the attractions or characters that are not available after the event begins, like any of the shows you may want to see. If you want to explore some of the World Showcase that is closed off during the event, you should do that as well.
  • Grab something to eat before After Hours starts, so you don’t waste time doing that during the actual event.
  • Watch the fireworks.
  • After the event starts, you should spend most of your time trying visit attractions and meeting characters, picking up snacks at carts throughout the park as you go.
  • You might want to consider starting the event at Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in the France pavilion, since that attraction is much farther away than the other rides open during the event. And then try hitting up Frozen Ever After, before heading to the others.
  • Cosmic Rewind will most likely have a steady wait most of the night due to is popularity, so keep that in mind. You might want to save this for the end of the night to maximize most of your event time.
  • Grab a PhotoPass picture inside a nearly empty park, especially any fun Magic Shots (we encountered several near Cosmic Rewind).
  • Grab a bottle or two of beverages to take back to your hotel before you head out.

Who should attend?

Disney After Hours is far from cheap. You’re basically paying a lot of money for what is essentially 3 hours of park touring, plus the time between 7 p.m. and when the party starts.

But for people on short trips or guests staying offsite that weren’t able to snag Genie+ Lightning Lane selections for the attractions, it might make sense to add After Hours into your plans.

That said, out of all the After Hours events (Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Typhoon Lagoon) we felt like we got the least value out of the one at Epcot. Epcot is HUGE, and the attractions are spread out. You may end up doing a lot of backtracking and walking, which really eats up into your precious After Hours time.

If the event was longer than 3 hours, maybe After Hours would be a good idea. But if you can only do 1 during a trip, we’d definitely recommend booking After Hours at Magic Kingdom or Hollywood Studios over Epcot.

epcot after hours light magic shot

All that said, here are some people who might enjoy After Hours at Epcot:

  • Photographers : With fewer people around, it’s a great time to take photos without the usual crowds photobombing the shots.
  • People without kids : While families with young children might find the late hours challenging, adults or families with older children can take full advantage of the late-night atmosphere.
  • First-time Visitors : If someone’s trip to Epcot is a once-in-a-lifetime event, they might want to maximize their experience.
  • Repeat Visitors : Those who’ve been to the park multiple times might enjoy a different, more relaxed experience.
  • Guests on Short Trips : If someone is only in Orlando for a short time and wants to make the most of it, this is a great way to experience a lot in a little time.
  • People who dislike crowds : One of the main benefits of the After Hours event is the significantly reduced crowd sizes.
  • Attraction Enthusiasts : Guests who want to experience as many attractions as possible, especially popular ones like the Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Frozen Ever After, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

New DVC Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness a Deluxe Resort, Receive Extended Evening Hours

by Holly Ramey · March 26, 2024

Cabins Extended Evening Hours

If the new DVC Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort  weren’t marvelous enough, I have even more exciting news to share! Those staying in the new DVC Cabins at Fort Wilderness will also receive Extended Evening Hours!

Extended Evening Hours at the Magic Kingdom allow Guests to spend up to TWO HOURS longer in the Parks after they close to all other Guests.

TRON Stars Disney World

Photo: Disney

With the Extended Evening Hours, EPCOT is usually open for two extra hours on Monday nights, and the Magic Kingdom is open for two extra hours on Wednesday nights. However, we sometimes see Hollywood Studios in the mix.

Since this perk is reserved only for guests staying at Deluxe and Deluxe Villa Walt Disney World Resort Hotels, the lines in the park are short. It also allows these guests to get in a virtual queue for TRON in the Magic Kingdom. Trust me, it’s amazing!

Cabins Extended Evening Hours

It’s important to note that the Extended Evening Hours perks only apply to those staying in the NEW DVC Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. Those booking reservations in the current cabins will not receive this perk.

All Guests can currently book a reservation for the new DVC Cabins at Fort Wilderness. (You do NOT have to be a DVC Member to stay in these new cabins) However, only DVC Members can book a reservation with an arrival date from July 1 to September 26, 2024. All other Guests can book with an arrival date starting September 27, 2024.

Cabins Extended Evening Hours

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort is an amazing Resort with some amazing amenities, including Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, Tri-Circle D Ranch, outdoor recreational activities, Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Campfire Sing-Along, and so much more. But, this perk of Extended Evening Hours takes its level of awesomeness to a whole new level!

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

We’ve been going to Disney World for a LONG time.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Magic Kingdom , the first park to open in Florida, opened in 1971, and since then, we’ve watched the changes the theme park resort has gone through over the years. From massive overhauls like EPCOT’s transformation to skip-the-line systems, we’ve seen what can happen when Disney transitions its parks. We have proof of these revisions that you have to see to believe (and remember). We’re taking you on a walk down memory lane with these next 7 before and after pictures!

Maelstrom — Frozen Ever After

Frozen Ever After arrived in EPCOT as the first IP-themed ride in June 2016. But before there was a  Frozen ride in the Norway pavilion in EPCOT, Maelstrom ruled the land.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Maelstrom took you through the history of the Norwegian lands on a boat that sailed you up, down, and even backward. It was popular among many people who loved that EPCOT focused on the history and culture of the pavilions. However, when Frozen was a massive theatrical hit, Disney decided that it was time for the 1980s ride to be replaced with a more current ride — Frozen Ever After.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Now, the very popular ride almost always has long lines, and people just can’t “let it go.” You’re singing the songs for hours around EPCOT after you’ve ridden it. But that’s fine, those songs are catchy!

FastPass — Lightning Lane

Way back in our day, we didn’t have Lightning Lane , we had FASTPASS!

FastPass was the OG skip-the-line system in Disney World, and we would go back to it in a heartbeat if we could. It was free, and it was fun! I remember going into Magic Kingdom and going left while my dad ran right to get a FastPass as fast as he could at Space Mountain and then meet us at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (if you’ve been to Magic Kingdom, you understand the distance between those two rides!!).

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Over the years, FastPass evolved into FastPass+ — still free but you didn’t have to run all over the place to get them, they were right on your phone in the Disney World app (or a kiosk if you didn’t want to use your phone). You could reserve a couple in advance of your trip, and then grab new ones right on the app. It was a great system.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Nowadays, we have Lightning Lanes — the paid-for skip-the-line service. You pay for Genie+ on the morning of your trip and then you can book Lightning Lanes. You can also pay for Individual Lightning Lanes — the rides that are not included in Genie+, usually based on popularity and newness.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Boy, do we miss FastPass, but at least we still have a skip-the-line system!

Ellen’s Energy Adventure — Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Rides can come and go in Disney World. If a ride isn’t super popular or is becoming irrelevant, Disney may decide to transform it into something new. This is what happened to Universe of Energy, which later became Ellen’s Energy Adventure. Have you ever heard of them?

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Ellen’s Energy Adventure featured Bill Nye the Science Guy, and they took you through the Earth’s history and how energy is transferred and used. It was educational, very 1990s, and made sense in EPCOT for a while, but the ride was closed down in 2014 to make way for the reverse launch and awesome roller coaster, Guardians of the Galaxy : Cosmic Rewind.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

OK, so Cosmic Rewind is a pretty amazing coaster, especially considering that Disney World isn’t particularly known for its roller coasters. Yes, there are a handful of thrill rides in Disney World, but you don’t often think about that when you’re headed there. But now Cosmic Rewind is always on our mind when we step foot into EPCOT. It’s so good.

EPCOT has been going through a massive transformation for the past several years. While it’s nearing completion, we enjoy looking back in time and thinking about what EPCOT looked like before. EPCOT has been modified a couple of times now, but here’s one picture from before this recent transformation.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Now, EPCOT is divided into different “Worlds” — World Nature, World Discovery, World Celebration, and World Showcase. They have added new attractions such as Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana , Cosmic Rewind, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure , World Celebration Gardens, and more! It nearly looks like an all-new park.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Social Distancing in Lines — Packed Lines

We could do a little flip-flopping for this one — pre-COVID, during COVID, and post-COVID — but we’ll just stick with during and after COVID. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Disney World, and the rest of the world, had everyone social distancing to help prevent the spread of the virus. We bet you remember seeing these lines during that time!

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

There were marks on the ground to direct people where to stand — spreading everyone out 6 feet apart.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Now that the fear of the virus has gone down significantly, we don’t have to social distance any longer in Disney World. Instead, you’ll find lines that look more like this…

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

… and this.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Yep, the days of social distancing are over, but that doesn’t mean we forgot about it.

Mask Signage — No Mask Signage

Along with social distancing came mask use. Wearing a mask in public became the new norm during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was not uncommon to see these signs all around Disney World.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Now, masks, aka face coverings, are not required in Disney World but may be worn if you choose. We no longer see the signs, and most individuals go without them, as you can see in the following picture.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Downtown Disney — Disney Springs

Last but not least on our list of before and afters, we need to dive into Disney Springs, formerly known as Downtown Disney (among other names). Downtown Disney was the name of the dining and shopping district before it became Disney Springs. It also used to include a nightclub section called Pleasure Island.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Now, Disney Springs has come a long way from Downtown Disney and Pleasure Island. It is a very popular hang-out location. It has drastically changed from its past counterpart.

disney tourist blog epcot after hours

Well, there you have it folks — a little walk down memory lane. We hope you enjoyed this tour of before and after pictures around Disney World! We’re in the parks every day, so keep following AllEars for more Disney updates.
