Peaceful for most of the year, Puck starts life for real when summer arrives and brings with it flocks of people who want to enjoy their summer holidays in this seaside picturesque setting. Puck is perfect for both active and passive tourists. You may lie on a beach, go on a cruise on the Bay of Puck, practise water sports or sightsee. Everyone will surely have a good time here.

Puck TOURISM

Puck is a paradise for active tourists, especially those who appreciate water sports. Enthusiasts of sailing and windsurfing may practise on the Bay of Puck. Annually, European and World Championships in various classes of sailing and windsurfing are held here. Apart from water sports, Puck offers a few foot and bike trails. Keen bikers will surely love the Seaside Cycle Path from Gdynia to Hel that runs through the town. Puck and its neighbourhood are full of monuments. In Puck itself you ought to visit: the gothic church of St. Peter and Paul from the 13th century, the baroque hospital from the 1720s, which is now the seat of Florian Ceynowa’s Museum of Puck Land, the remains of the medieval Teutonic Knights’ castle and the neo-gothic town hall from 1865. Interesting monuments may be also found in neighbouring towns. Worthy of interest are especially caves in Mechowo (10 km from Puck), a castle in Rzucewo (6.5 km) and a sanctuary in Swarzewo (6.5 km).

Puck is a town in the Pomeranian Voivodeship and a seat of county and commune, populated by over 11.500. It lies on Gdansk Pomerania at the point the river Plutnica flows into the Bay of Puck, in the northeast part of Kepa Pucka.

Puck beginnings date back to early Middle Ages. Since 1309 it was under the rulings of Teutonic Knights and it obtained town rights in 1348. During the Thirteen Years war (1454–1466) Puck’s inhabitants sided with Poland. In 1457 Swedish King Karol VIII Knutsson Bonde found a shelter in Puck. Puck Land was given to him as a security by Casimir IV Jagiellon. Three years later Puck was taken by the Teutonic Order and the king was forced to move to Gdansk . In 1466 Puck was annexed to Royal Prussia. It was a good time for the town, which was then a seat of county, a place of sejmiks and municipal courts and, during the reigns of the House of Vasa, a fortress and a base of Polish navy. A golden age for Puck ended in the half of the 18th century. The town fell into decay then and in 1772 was joined to Prussia. In the beginning of the 19th century the town regained its significance. Puck became then a county seat in Gdansk governmental district and a famous brewery – the beer which was produced here was famous all over the Pomerania. Until 1926 Puck and Hel had been the only Polish ports by the sea. In the same year Puck county was liquidated and the town together with neighbouring villages was joined to the Marine County with the seat in Wejherowo . During the Second World War Puck was under German occupation. In between 1941 and 1944 there existed a work camp, in which prisoners were manufacturing airplane parts. more >> -->

Knuckle Puck offered quite an exciting experience, with a powerful show that incited plenty of moshing, crowd surfing, and stage diving. Their stage presence was pretty good; the band members did not remain glued to one position on stage and they interacted with the wild audience. The band brought plentiful energy to the venue and had an enjoyable set that I'm sure satisfied almost every Knuckle Puck fan attending. The mix, from near center stage, was not the best, but was good. Overall, I'd rate their performance as an 8.5/10.

This show was absolutely incredible. This was the second time I’ve seen Knuckle Puck live and both times they have, without a doubt, been so animated and connected to the audience. People were stage diving and crowd surfing, the band was pumping people up, and the audience was giving it to them. Easily one of the most fun shows I’ve been to in a very long time.

Amazing in every single aspect. Third time seeing them and hopefully not the last. I will say however, this was the most intimate show I’ve ever seen of theirs. Such a close fun experience, they have so much energy and passion for what they do and it’s not only fun but truly inspiring.

Puck Pieterse reflects on a strong and fun spring season: "I've gained a lot of experience"

Puck Pieterse's spring campaign has wrapped up after the Tour of Flanders. The Dutch rider can boast an impressive track record after eight spring races, finishing outside the top ten only once at Strade Bianche (thirteenth). With important months ahead on the mountain bike, races like Paris-Roubaix and the Amstel Gold Race are on the horizon for the coming years. After this spring, one thing is certain: Puck is here to stay.

Finishing eighth in the Omloop, tenth in Hageland, thirteenth in Strade, hitting the podium in Binda and Drenthe, seventh in Wevelgem, fifth in Dwars door Vlaanderen, and finally sixth in the Tour of Flanders, one could hardly ask for more. Yet, Pieterse's spring was even more impressive due to her considerable effort and a highly engaging racing style.

In the Tour of Flanders, the Fenix-Deceuninck rider concluded her spring with a finale against the likes of Lotte Kopecky, Marianne Vos, and Demi Vollering. "This was really a heroic race, I think," Pieterse reminisced. "After the first hour, it started to pour, and the cold, slick conditions made it all the more special."

She put up a strong fight in the challenging finale of the High Mass in cycling. "Being the first to reach the top of the Koppenberg was super special. Then, to be in the mix in the finale, especially on the Oude Kwaremont, was really cool. The same goes for the Paterberg. Climbing those ascents with the best riders is truly amazing."

"Unfortunately, we couldn't catch up to the top three," Pieterse refers to Shirin van Anrooij, Kasia Niewiadoma, and winner Elisa Longo Borghini. "We saw them riding and sprinting, which was a pity. I think it was still possible, but our cooperation was good, not great. We were with two riders from SD Worx-Protime and, of course, Marianne Vos, who you don't necessarily want to go to the finish with. But the other ladies were pretty spent too. All in all, it was an incredibly cool race."

Pieterse's spring leaves her wanting more: "I've gained a lot of experience"

Those 'incredibly cool' and 'awesome' races have Pieterse craving more. "It's a shame my spring season is already ending. I really enjoyed it and would love to do more races. On the other hand, I could continue, but I shouldn't just set aside my other goals," she points out, with a realistic focus on the upcoming Olympic Games in mountain biking, which are approaching faster than everyone thinks.

Now that spring has come to an end, what will she take with her into the coming years? "I'm taking a lot of experience into the next few years. This was my first time in Flanders, and to immediately compete for the win and be in the mix on climbs like the Paterberg is very educational. The same goes for races like Dwars door Vlaanderen, where you learn a lot about how a finale works and the best strategies."

Learning by doing. Pieterse applied the lessons from Wednesday directly to Sunday. "In Dwars door Vlaanderen, I did a bit too much. I had good legs then, but I overexerted and that slightly hindered me in the finale. This time, I tried not to use up all my energy too soon, but I was still pretty spent. In the end, it was about doing the best I could. But I tried to race a bit smarter," she states.

Fenix-Deceuninck's sports director Michel Cornelisse, who thoroughly enjoys working with the multi-talented Pieterse, said earlier this spring: "Puck just needs to be Puck. We let her do her thing, and you don't want to change that racing style. Making mistakes is definitely not a problem," the Amsterdammer said at the time. That Pieterse is closing her spring without a win doesn't bother her. "The switch to victories will come naturally. We're racing with incredibly strong riders, so I'm happy to be competing at this level and doing so well. Every time there was a breakaway in the recent races, I was there. That's a great start, and from there, we can only continue to build," she says encouragingly.

Puck Pieterse reflects on a strong and fun spring season: "I've gained a lot of experience"

Vingegaard, Evenepoel, and Roglič see Tour de France and 2024 Olympic hopes hurt in serious crash at Itzulia Basque Country

Jonas Vingegaard Rasmussen of Denmark competes during the Tour de France.

A massive crash on Thursday, April 4th, injured several marquee riders on stage 4 of the Itzulia Basque Country road cycling race, including reigning Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard and fellow tour favourites Remco Evenepoel and Primož Roglič .

It'll now be a race against time for the three champions, and others injured in the accident, to regain full fitness ahead of a European Summer which includes the Tour de France stage race and the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Nasty crash floors three champions

The crash happened on a sharp bend in the road within the final 40 km of the stage. A dozen riders were involved, with many falling on the deck and into concrete ditches alongside the road.

Two-time defending Tour de France champ Vingegaard spent minutes on the ground before leaving the race on a stretcher to be taken to an ambulance.

"It was a nasty crash, but fortunately, he is stable and conscious. Examinations at the hospital have revealed that he has a broken collarbone and several broken ribs," his Danish team Visma Lease a Bike detailed on social media.

"Further examination in the hospital revealed that he also suffered a pulmonary contusion and pneumothorax,' they later added.

Remco Evenepoel, the 2022 Vuelta a Espana winner, had to wear a sling after the fall. His team, Soudal Quick Step, explained that the Belgian had suffered a fractured clavicle and shoulder plates. They announced on social media that he went to the hospital for further examination.

"Remco will travel to Belgium on Friday, where he will undergo an operation on his collarbone and further examination at the hospital in Herentals. Further updates will be given in due course," the team shared.

Roglič had been leading the race, but was also forced to abandon after a heavy fall. The Olympic time trial gold medallist isn't believed to have suffered injuries as serious as his two rivals. Slovenian cycling fans will be hopeful that the 34-year-old will be back on his bike well ahead of the Grand Tours season.

Others injured in the crash include Australian world champion from 2022 Jay Vine, and Eritrean cyclist Natnael Tesfatsion.

The seriously injured riders will face a battle against time to recover in time for the Tour de France. The 111th edition of the famous French race will begin in Florence, Italy, on June 29th, and end three weeks later in Nice on Sunday, July 21st.

The Paris 2024 Olympic road cycling competitions begin with the Individual Time Trials on 27 July, with the Men's Road Race on 3rd August.

Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ Is Here, and It’s Much More Than Country

The superstar’s new LP is a 27-track tour of popular music with a Beatles cover, cameos by Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton, and features from Miley Cyrus and Post Malone.

A woman in a cowboy hat and elaborately bejeweled jacket brings one hand to her chest and smiles in sunglasses.

By Ben Sisario

Beyoncé has gone country, sure … but it turns out that’s only the half of it.

For months, the superstar, who made her name in R&B and pop, has been telegraphing her version of country music and style. There was the “disco” cowboy hat at her Renaissance World Tour last year, and her “ western ” look at the Grammys in February, complete with a white Stetson and black studded jacket. Then, on the night of the Super Bowl, she released two new songs, and sent one of them, “Texas Hold ’Em” — with plucked banjos and lines about Texas and hoedowns — to country radio stations, sparking an industrywide debate about the defensive moat that has long surrounded Nashville’s musical institutions.

At midnight on Friday, Beyoncé finally released her new album, “Cowboy Carter,” and the country bona fides were certainly there. Dolly Parton provides a cameo introduction to Beyoncé’s version of “Jolene,” Parton’s 1972 classic about a woman confronting a romantic rival. Willie Nelson pops in twice as a grizzled D.J., who says he “turns you on to some real good [expletive],” including snippets of Chuck Berry, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and the blues singer Son House.

Yet “Cowboy Carter” is far broader than simply a country album. Beyoncé does a version of the Beatles’ “Blackbird” and, on the track “Ya Ya,” draws from Nancy Sinatra and the Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations.” “Desert Eagle” is glistening funk, and the upbeat “Bodyguard” would not be out of place on a modern rock radio station. The album’s range suggests a broad essay on contemporary pop music, and on the nature of genre itself.

That theory is made clear on the partly spoken track “Spaghettii,” featuring the pioneering but long absent Black country singer Linda Martell , who in 1970 released an album called “Color Me Country.”

“Genres are a funny little concept, aren’t they? Yes, they are,” Martell, 82, says. “In theory, they have a simple definition that’s easy to understand. But in practice, well, some may feel confined.”

Of course, Beyoncé herself indicated this a week ago when she posted a note on Instagram saying: “This ain’t a country album. This is a ‘Beyoncé’ album.”

Still, the theme of simultaneously celebrating and transforming country music extends to the album’s cover art, featuring Beyoncé seated sideways on a white horse, dressed in red-white-and-blue rodeo gear and hoisting an American flag.

Guests on the album include Miley Cyrus on the song “II Most Wanted,” and Post Malone on “Levii’s Jeans.” (The extra I’s underscore that “Cowboy Carter” is officially “Act II” of what Beyoncé has said will be a three-album cycle, which began with “Renaissance” in 2022. That motif repeats throughout the album’s 27-song track list. The Beatles cover — where she is joined by a quartet of young Black female country singers — Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, Reyna Roberts and Tiera Kennedy — is rendered as “Blackbiird.”) Midway through the track “Daughter,” Beyoncé even flexes some opera skills, singing a bit of “Caro Mio Ben,” a popular 18th-century Italian aria. ( More on that here .)

In a statement, Beyoncé described the sonic texture of the album, differentiating it from the synthesized process behind most contemporary pop albums (including her own).

“With artificial intelligence and digital filters and programming, I wanted to go back to real instruments, and I used very old ones,” she said. “I didn’t want some layers of instruments like strings, especially guitars, and organs perfectly in tune. I kept some songs raw and leaned into folk.”

As with “Renaissance,” the audio for “Cowboy Carter” was leaked online shortly before its planned release, with some fans urging others not to listen early.

Back when Beyoncé released her self-titled “visual album” without warning in 2013, establishing the “surprise drop” as an industry trope, it was partly meant to protect the album from leaks, which had become a threat to first-week sales numbers. For these last two albums, Beyoncé has embraced a more conventional marketing plan, announcing her album weeks ahead of time and preparing deluxe physical editions. (There are many for “Cowboy Carter,” including LPs in, yes, red, white and blue vinyl.)

In the end, the leaks meant little to “Renaissance,” which went straight to No. 1 . And, regardless of the new album’s fate at country radio — where “Texas Hold ’Em” has so far made it only as high as No. 33 — the commercial potential for “Cowboy Carter” seems vast, given Beyoncé’s recent success.

Last year, she won her 32nd Grammy Award , more than any artist in history. Her Renaissance tour sold $580 million in tickets, second only to Taylor Swift. A related concert film, “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé,” offered a rare look behind the scenes of her creative process and was a hit in cinemas.

Last week, as the release of “Cowboy Carter” neared, Beyoncé wrote on Instagram that the album was “over five years in the making,” and that “it was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed … and it was very clear that I wasn’t.” Fans zeroed in on her appearance at the Country Music Association Awards in 2016, where she performed her song “Daddy Lessons” with the Chicks, and drew backlash online .

“The criticisms I faced when I first entered this genre forced me to propel past the limitations that were put on me,” Beyoncé said. The new album, she added, “is a result of challenging myself, and taking my time to bend and blend genres together to create this body of work.”

An earlier version of this article misstated the name of an earlier Beyoncé song. It is “Daddy Lessons,” not “Daddy Issues.”

MADRID (AP) — Two-time defending Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard broke his collarbone and several ribs Thursday in a crash at the Tour of Basque Country that also caught up Olympic gold medalist Primoz Roglič and Remco Evenepoel, who also sustained a broken collarbone.

Evenepoel, one of the favorites for the road race at the Paris Games, also has a broken right shoulder blade and was scheduled return to Belgium on Friday for surgery on his collarbone, his team said.

Vingegaard was hardly moving as he was put in an ambulance wearing an oxygen mask and neck brace after the crash occurred with less than 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) left in the fourth stage.

“Examinations at the hospital have revealed that he has a broken collarbone and several broken ribs. He remains in hospital as a precaution,” Team Visma said of the 27-year-old Danish rider, who won the race in Spain a year ago.

The accident happened as riders were making a right-hand turn, and one rider’s front tire appeared to slip out and send other riders off the road. There were some large rocks in the area, though it wasn’t clear if any of the riders hit them.

Video and images of the crash showed riders strewn alongside the road, including in a concrete drainage ditch.

Vingegaard won both races he entered this season at Tirreno-Adriatico and the Gran Camino in Spain. He is considered the heavy favorite to triumph again at the Tour, which ends with a time trial in Nice this year because of the Paris Olympics.

“Over the radio we heard Jonas was involved in a big crash,” Visma sports director Addy Engels told Eurosport. “We immediately saw that it didn’t look good when we arrived to him. Fortunately, he was conscious. Jonas is now being examined at the hospital. We are waiting for any updates now.”

Evenepoel, who won stages at the Giro d’Italia and Spanish Vuelta last year, hit the pavement and landed in a wooded area during Thursday’s crash, though he appeared to be walking away while clutching his chest.

Evenepoel’s team, Soudal Quick-Step, later confirmed that the Belgian “suffered a fracture to his right collarbone and his right scapula.” The team said he will undergo surgery “and further examination” at the hospital in Belgium.

Roglič was leading the overall race despite a heavy fall on Wednesday. He was one of the riders that ended up in the drainage ditch, and he was later spotted walking to a Bora-Hansgrohe team car and driving away with a team staff.

The injuries to Roglič came one day after his teammate, Lennard Kämna, was hit by an oncoming vehicle and sustained serious injuries while on a training ride in Tenerife. Kämna was expected to spend several days in the intensive care unit.

Other riders taken to the hospital Thursday included Jay Vine of UAE Team Emirates and Steff Cras of TotalEnergies, which reported its rider was conscious and “transferred to hospital to carry out additional examinations.” EF Education-EasyPost said two of its riders, Alexander Cepeda and Sean Quinn were involved, and Quinn was forced to abandon the race and his “medical evaluation was ongoing.” Others involved in the crash included Quinten Hermans and Natnael Tesfatsion.

The race was neutralized until the finish line, and the restart had to be delayed until doctors could rejoin the race to accompany the remaining riders. Six riders who had been in a breakaway stopped to wait in the next town, and they were allowed to sprint for the stage win but neither their times nor any bonuses would count for the general classification.

Louis Meintjes of Intermarché Wanty wound up winning the stage. Mattias Skjelmose took the overall race lead.

“It’s a sad day. I wish all the guys who crashed all the best and wish them a fast recovery,” Skjelmose said at the finish. “My mind is with the guys who crashed, and right now I am not thinking about the leader’s jersey.”

MADRID — Two-time defending Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard was taken to a hospital in an ambulance after a bad crash at the Basque Country Vuelta.

The Danish rider from team Visma wasn’t able to move much while being treated by doctors by the side of the road following the crash that happened with less than 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) to go in the fourth stage. He was put in an ambulance with an oxygen mask and a neck brace.

Australian rider Jay Vine also was taken to a hospital in an ambulance.

Race organizers did not immediately release information about their condition.

Primoz Roglic, who is a Giro d’Italia and Spanish Vuelta champion, also was involved in the crash, as were Remco Evenepoel and Quinten Hermans.

The race was neutralized until the finish line, with the six leading riders competing in the stage but with their times not counting for the general classification.

Vingegaard has collapsed lung after crash in Basque Country race. Tour de France defense is in doubt

BARCELONA, Spain — Two-time defending Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard remained hospitalized in Spain a day after he broke his collarbone and several ribs in a bad crash with other top riders during the Tour of Basque Country.

The Danish rider’s Visma-Lease A Bike team said Friday that further tests revealed the Vingegaard also suffered a collapsed lung and a pulmonary contusion. The team said that cycling’s leading star was “stable and had a good night” but remains in a hospital in the northern Spanish city of Vitoria.

The accident comes less than three months before the start of the Tour on June 29 when Vingegaard is scheduled to to again face off against top rival Tadej Pogačar. That highly anticipated rematch is now in doubt.

Vingegaard was hardly moving as he was put in an ambulance wearing an oxygen mask and neck brace after the crash occurred on Thursday with less than 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) left in the race’s fourth stage.

The pileup also took out cycling stars Primoz Roglič and Remco Evenepoel.

Evenepoel broke a collarbone and his right shoulder blade and was set to undergo surgery when he returns to Belgium on Friday, his Soudal Quick-Step team said.

The two-time world champion said in a post on social media that “obviously my plans for the short future will change but I hope and think that my long-term goals will not change.”

The 24-year-old Evenepoel is scheduled to make his Tour debut this summer before he participates in both the time trial and road race events at the Summer Olympics.

The accident happened as riders were making what looked to be a conventional right-hand turn going downhill when one rider’s front tire appeared to slip out and send other cyclists off the road. There were some large rocks and trees in the area, though it wasn’t clear if any of the riders hit them. There was also a concrete drainage ditch on the edge of the curve.

Race director Julián Eraso said that the accident was a surprise since the race organizers considered the curve to be “easy” to handle.

“You never know where an accident can occur,” Eraso told Spanish radio Cadena SER. “This year the roads were good, wide, easy roads. That curve to the right was easy … (and) there was an indication a few meters before to let riders prepare for it.”

Roglic, a three-time Spanish Vuelta winner, emerged with just scratches, according to his BORA-hansgrohe team, but he did have to abandon the race he was leading.

Vingegaard was trying to defend the title he won last year at the six-day Tour of Basque Country. The race ends Saturday.
