I traveled as a solo traveler to Eastern Hokkaido earlier this year. What an experience. I have been to many other parts of Japan but this is certainly something like no where else in Japan. Amazing bird watching. Beautiful cranes. Stunning lakes. Outstanding food throughout. It would not have been possible to see this part of Japan on my own. We traveled by private car for most of the journey (apart from taking the train from Sapporo across to Kusshiro). Our local guide was from the area which made the experience even better. My highlight on the trip was the onsen baths, spectacular scenery, and meeting with indigenous Ainu people. I had read lots about Japan's ancient people so to meet them in person was probably the biggest highlight. I would highly recommend this tour and going with Unique Japan Tours. They were amazing to travel with.

Hokkaido attracts visitors from all over the globe for its pristine natural scenery and snow festivals which are held annually. Hokkaido is the northernmost island of Japan and is also the home to populations of rare species like the red-crowned crane. Hokkaido is the second largest island of the four main islands but has the least developed land. Because it has been able to maintain much of its natural environment, many types of flowers have been allowed to flourish during the warmer months of the year. There broad colors of seasonal flowers attract many travelers throughout the year. Japanese Cherry Blossoms bloom throughout the country from early March to early May with Hokkaido blooming on the late end of the spectrum. Another popular Hokkaido flower is the shibazakura, which has a sensational pink color that spreads out like blankets on the ground, causing it to look like a sea of flowers that wave a spectrum of strong pink. In the summer, lavender viewing is one of the top attractions in Hokkaido. Both public and private lavender fields extend along Furano City, wrapping around the whole hillside that turns into a mass of violet in the peak season from mid-to late July. For those interested in combining their wanderlust with snow festivals, Sapporo has one of the most popular snow festivals in Japan. The Sapporo snow festival takes places annually during the first week of February. Competitions take place during the beginning of the festivities; ice sculptures, mazes, and other icy creations are built for the public to view. Some artists create historical, architectural, or cultural-based sculptures amongst many other types of themes creating a variety of entertainment for everyone. Besides Sapporo’s snow festival, there are also romantic, picturesque sites like the Otaru Canal located just west of Sapporo. The Otaru Canal is especially scenic during the night, especially during winter when path is lit by lanterns made of snow alongside the canal. Single Supplement

Single travelers are required to pay a single supplement in order to guarantee single room accommodation.

We request one suitcase, one carry-on bag, and an overnight bag per person. The tote bag we provide can be used to hold any small merchandise/souvenirs purchased during your tour. When you check out, bring your luggage to the lobby and the bus driver will assist in loading it onto the bus. When you arrive at the next hotel, the bus driver will unload your luggage for you to bring to your room. Please note: The maximum weight of a checked in bag is typically 20 Kilograms or 44 Pounds. You will be traveling with your luggage except during the bullet train ride (if applicable).

Accommodation

All hotel rooms come with a full bathroom and room amenities free of charge unless stated otherwise.

Transportation

All motor coaches come equipped with air-conditioning, plenty of space, comfortable seats, and Wi-Fi.

International Flights

All of our tours begin in either Tokyo or Osaka/Kyoto. When beginning or ending a tour in Tokyo, please book flights to or from Narita International Airport or Haneda International Airport. For tours beginning or ending in Osaka/Kyoto, please book flights to or from Kansai International Airport or Itami Airport. We recommend you do not book your flights until the tour status changes from Book Now to Guaranteed Departure . Fitness & Shoes

Traveling and visiting sights in Japan includes a good amount of walking. To fully enjoy the tour, please be prepared to keep up with the pace of the group, climb stairs with no difficulty, and wear comfortable shoes for all day use.

Guests with tattoos may not be able to use the hot-springs or onsens while in Japan. We apologize if you are unable to enjoy this experience during your stay.

Major Islands of Japan

Our guide lele is a wealth of information, Lele is very professional and very attentive to our needs. Lele is amazing. Lele got everything spot on. It probably helps that Guilin is a brilliant place to visit so Lele has great material to work with but that doesn't take anything away from how much Lele helped make it a great trip.

Our guide for Beijing was super knowledgeable and experienced and able to help us to achieve as much as we wanted within the time given. We had a fun time guided by him as he is also super humorous and you can see how he interacts with the vendors and people whom he comes by. Thank you for a very enjoyable time in Beijing and accommodating to all our needs!

Our China Highlight guide. Michael, was attentive, thoughtful and knowledgeable. He narrated many interesting historical events about Chengdu while touring around the city and having afternoon tea with us. He was thoughtful to provide us with snacks during long hikes at Leshan or walks around the city.

She was very flexible and added extra time when we needed it and we felt extremely well taken care of. She also chose the best restaurants for us,

Our tour guide Helen, was excellent, she was very kind, professional and passionate for her work and she also loves Pandas! She will take you to take the best panda photos and to know more about Chengdu city. Our tour was great, she took us to all our destinations always with the best spots: Temples, pagodas, famous streets, theaters, pandas...you name it! Everything was great.

He picked up our pre-booked boat/other excursions tickets so we were able to avoid all the long lines and chaos. He is knowledgeable of the places we visited, courteous, fun to travel with and well-versed in Chinese classics.

Tom is the guide that will take you to where no other guide will. We pushed for the experience and Tom and the team delivered more than what we could have ever asked for. His English speaking ability and his Chinese history knowledge is second to none.

What makes Hokkaido’s winter special?  

Every winter, cold winds from Siberia pick up moisture as they cross the Sea of Japan before dropping it as snow on Hokkaido. The snow falls as big, light snowflakes, the kind you see in the movies, blanketing the landscape in white. With the thick bush buried, we are free to explore the forests and mountains, with access to areas that may be more challenging or even completely out of our reach in summer. The Wildlife

While Brown Bears are tucked away in hibernation, many other animals are active throughout winter. Mountain Hares, Red Foxes and Japanese Deer leave a network of footprints behind as they search for food. Red-crowned Cranes perform mating dances in the fields, and giant Steller's Sea Eagles arrive from Siberia. Seeing the animals against a stark white background is a striking winter image.
