Gazing skyward can be like traveling. The heavens are mysterious, expansive, and full of wonder. For astrologers, the sky is filled with signposts, and it’s all thanks to the zodiac.

Most of us know our sun signs—that’s which zodiac constellation the sun was in when we were born. That’s why we read horoscopes, a personal forecast based on cosmic movements. But what about our travel horoscope? Can we determine the best destinations and timing for travel based on the zodiac signs?

Why yes, we can. According to Astrologer Kyle Thomas , the planets, sun, and moon can all factor into travel horoscopes. And 2020 promises to be an excellent year for travel. Thomas explains that with Jupiter in Capricorn throughout 2020, we can expect a bit of luck and maybe even miracles as we explore natural landscapes (like a goat, the symbol of Capricorn). Better still, international explorations are calling through early 2020 with Mars, the planet of energy, in Sagittarius. By year’s end, “Mars will be in Aries, which will definitely make very hot destinations the most desirable,” says Thomas.

Here’s more zodiac travel insight for each specific sun sign.

Aries (March 21 to April 19), Spain

travel by zodiac sign

The country where Flamenco began is a dreamy destination for Aries. “Spain is filled with vibrant colors and experiences,” says Thomas. “Aries possesses a great deal of energy and enthusiasm, and craves festivities.” While Barcelona and Madrid are fine cities for culture and gastronomy, find even more flavor in sunny Seville. At the city’s Flamenco Dance Museum , Aries can revel in emotive music, costumes, and dance performances, and even join and dance or music classes.

Taurus (April 20 to May 20), France

travel by zodiac sign

“As a zodiac sign that favors the senses and pleasure, Taurus will feel most alive in France,” says Thomas, adding that the beauty and romance in Paris will invite bulls to feel right at home. Reserve time for romantic strolls and leisurely dining at charming brasseries where you can sit for hours sipping drinks and discussing art. Seek out accommodations in charming Montmartre, perhaps at Maison Souquet , where each suite is lushly designed with silky textiles and other boudoir-appropriate touches.

9 Countries Where the U.S. Dollar Goes Furthest

Gemini (May 21 to June 21), Brazil

travel by zodiac sign

Gemini is among the more adventurous zodiac signs. So, Thomas points Gemini travelers to Brazil, a destination filled with hidden wonders that can keep the astrological twins’ minds abuzz. “Gemini is a zodiac sign always craving spontaneity and is curious about the world.” Rio de Janeiro is a vibrant choice for its culinary temptations and Carnival spirit. But a Gemini will be inspired by the colors and quirks of the Santa Teresa hilltop district, where artists lend their talents to enrich the local flair.

9 Incredible Brazilian Beaches for Every Type of Traveler

Cancer (June 21 to July 22), New Zealand

travel by zodiac sign

“As a water sign, Cancers love to be near the ocean or lakes,” says Thomas. “With so much natural beauty in New Zealand, Cancers will remember this vacation for the rest of their lives.” Indeed, with 9,300 miles of coastline, this Pacific nation is perfect for beach bums. Best destinations for Cancers are on the North Island, where a home base in Auckland allows for day-tripping to Coromandel Forest Park (about a two-hour drive). The park fills out a peninsula home to Hahei Beach with reefs made for diving and snorkeling, and Hot Water Beach where you can dig your own heated mineral pool in the sand.

10 Best Places to Go in New Zealand

Leo (July 23 to August 22), Greece

travel by zodiac sign

The fire in every Leo leads to serious travel love. “Leos crave expression, inspiration, and creativity, and Greece holds plenty of passion,” says Thomas, alluding to the country’s cultural and social legacy. History fans can’t go wrong with Athens, one of the world’s great cities, or any of its enchanted Aegean islands. But further south on the Peloponnese coast is Monemvasia, where an ancient castle and cobblestone streets echo the town’s medieval roots, and where poets and artists find solace in the Greek sun.

Virgo (August 23 to September 22), California

travel by zodiac sign

“As an Earth sign, Virgos love to embrace nature and enjoy a planned-out journey,” Thomas says. “California offers an opportunity to travel along the coast or within the state to keep them always moving to the next location.” Road-tripping through the Golden State is a no-brainer since travelers can roll from mountains to the ocean, or from desert to metropolis all in a day. One of the best journeys is a day trip across Sonoma County, starting in the historic town of Sonoma, then traveling westward through wine country for a walk at the Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve , and winding down with a Pacific sunset at Bodega Bay.

California’s Best-Kept Secret Is This Beachside Wine Region

Libra (September 23 to October 22), Quebec, Canada

travel by zodiac sign

Travel astrology points Libras toward a location that promises “steady fun and recreation.” This air sign loves to socialize and enjoy the nightlife, and Montreal, Quebec, is a culturally rich city filled with stimuli. Libras can balance out their scales with outdoor recreation in Mount Royal or the Botanical Garden. Indoor time is well spent catching Canada’s premier drag stars at the famous Cabaret Mado , or dining at a great Montreal restaurant like Candide , with changing monthly prix-fixe dining menus.

Scorpio (October 23 to November 21), Egypt

travel by zodiac sign

“As a zodiac sign that’s most connected to mystery and magic, Egypt’s ancient history will bewitch a Scorpio and ignite their fascination with the supernatural,” Thomas reports. Naturally, Scorpions will find fascination in the magnificent pyramids of Giza. About an hour south of Cairo and Giza, however, curious minds can ponder the lesser-known (and less-visited) pyramids known as Bent, Black, and Stepped. At the Red (or North) pyramid in Dahshur, inquisitive Scorpios can even slip inside its passageways to absorb the mystique of its inner chambers.

Sagittarius (November 22 to December 21), South Africa

travel by zodiac sign

“Sagittarius is known for their wanderlust and need to explore—so South Africa will light up their hearts,” says Thomas. It’s true, South Africa has so many wonderful travel options, from short or extended safaris to beautiful beaches to unforgettable wine-country excursions. And while a Cape Town visit is essential, Johannesburg has emerged lately as one of the world’s most exciting cities. There, fiery Sag globetrotters may leap at the chance to try bungee jumping from a catwalk 100 meters high at the twin cooling towers–turned–adventure park known as Soweto Towers .

Capricorn (December 22 to January 19), Iceland

travel by zodiac sign

Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, the planet of ice—fitting for a zodiac sign aligned with the start of winter. So nomadic goats will do well in Iceland, where nature reigns. Capricorns can explore the nation’s waterfalls, glaciers, hot springs, and sea cliffs all while viewing wildlife from whales and seals to puffins and Arctic foxes. Most tours launch from Reykjavik, so choose a reliable company like Pink Iceland , Intrepid Travel , or G Adventures , to show you the best of Iceland’s extraordinary landscapes.

Aquarius (January 20 to February 18), Japan

travel by zodiac sign

“Aquarius is the most forward-thinking zodiac sign, and is always about the next technological advancement,” Thomas reports. So, it’s no surprise that he says, “Japan will captivate every Aquarius.” Few cities seem so futuristic as Tokyo, the world’s largest metropolis. There, progressive-minded Aquarian adventurers can dive deep into the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation that is Miraikan . Parked on the man-made island of Odaiba, it’s the place to discover feats of human engineering, the future of robots, and the essence of the universe.

7 Tips for Seeing Cherry Blossoms in Japan

Pisces (February 19 to March 20), Puerto Rico

travel by zodiac sign

The Caribbean offers all travelers a bit of breezy pleasure, but according to Thomas, “As a water sign, Pisces are one with the sea.” The best city for Pisces is someplace with plenty of open air and swimming beaches, complemented by music and pockets of romance—and San Juan, Puerto Rico is just the spot. In Condado Beach just east of Old San Juan, the fish sign can linger under palm trees and catch gorgeous waves all day long.

Leo Travel Horoscope: Kenya

chyuluhills kenya

You are proud, regal and elegant, Leo, much like the majestic lion that represents your sign. You possess certain fiery energy that can’t be ignored. In the animal kingdom, you dominate the land, in the social world, you dominate the conversation. No gathering, group or trend is complete without a Leo in the mix,  after all, what would cinema be without Alfred Hitchcock? What would Harry Potter (the movies) be without Daniel Radcliffe, or worse yet, what would Harry Potter (the books) be without J.K. Rowling?

There’s no doubt that the world wouldn’t be the same without you boldly taking the reigns and getting things done. You’re often quite spontaneous when planning your next adventure but you always consider how Instagram-worthy the place is, and how far your money will stretch. Because making your friends jealous and living each day like the king of the jungle are two of your favourite things. So, naturally, heading to Kenya is the perfect vacation for you. As the perfectionists of the zodiac, you enjoy nothing more than being the most accomplished person in the room, and for the most part, you are. You exude a certain sophistication that many try to imitate, few can actually duplicate and none can truly resist, much like the throngs of fans that follow the Beyonce Knowles’, Jimmy Fallon’s and Michael Jackson’s of the world.

For you, more than any other sign, a getaway is just that, a chance to get away. Known for your practical and analytical mind you prefer to weigh out all of our options before making any decision. So when you meticulously begin planning your dream vacation, you look for a place that will not only stimulate your senses, but one that is somewhat remote where you can really disconnect, relax and recharge (away from all the crowds of adoring fans), and there’s nowhere better to do all of that and more than Indonesia.

Whether you’re lounging on the white sand beaches of the Gili islands or visiting Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist temple, Indonesia has everything your heart desires.

Must have experience: Find inner peace in the symmetry of the Tegallalang Rice Terraces in Ubud, Bali.

The Best Type of Trip To Take This Year, Based on Your Zodiac Sign

travel by zodiac sign

While planning, it's also worth considering the specific celestial transits happening throughout the rest of this year, which could play a role in making travel either smooth-sailing or, well, extra-choppy during those periods of time. Because these different planetary movements will affect the signs in different ways as they occur, figuring out how to travel based on your zodiac sign may include determining precisely when to do so, too.

  • Ryan Marquardt , Los Angeles-based astrologer

Below, Ryan Marquardt , astrologer for The SoulUnity , breaks down each zodiac sign's ideal type of trip based on their classic traits, and shares the best time for travel, too, given the upcoming cosmic milieu.

Here's exactly how to travel this year, based on your zodiac sign, according to an astrologer:

Aries: solo travel.

travel by zodiac sign

Fiery Aries is no stranger to action and adventure in their home life, and will crave the same (or, perhaps, even more) excitement from a trip. To up the thrill factor, Marquardt suggests flying solo: "While you can travel well with family and friends, your loved ones can also smother your secret travel power: the ability to fundamentally evolve by meeting new people in new places."

{{post.sponsorText}}

Because Sagittarius rules over your ninth house of travel , consider planning a vacation for when the Sag energy is strongest—when the sun enters Sagittarius on November 22, or even better, when both the sun and Mercury are conjunct in Sagittarius on November 28.

Taurus: luxe travel

travel by zodiac sign

Sensuous Taurus appreciates the finer things in life, leading them toward travel itineraries of deeply sensational value, like eating a five-star meal in Paris or summiting a mountain in Hawaii, says Marquardt. "You may have strong opinions on what to do and where to go, and it's possible your trips skew on the pricier side, but any travel companions will likely appreciate your thoughtful planning and top-tier taste," he says.

That said, it wouldn't be wise to do too much traveling around the holidays, if you can spare it, Taurus. "Your ruling planet, Venus, goes retrograde on December 20 in your exploration zone, which could bring trouble until it stations direct on January 29, 2022," says Marquardt.

Gemini: elaborate group trips

travel by zodiac sign

Gemini, gather your troupes: You travel best in a pack of your closest friends or family members and prefer itineraries that are social rather than tranquil, says Marquardt. Thanks to your affinity for variety, you'll also do well on a trip that's far-flung rather than near to home (aka somewhere far enough to require a flight) and that includes several destinations, whether that means hotel-hopping in one place or hitting a few different cities.

Given that structure-oriented Saturn is currently retrograde in your ninth house of travel, however, it'd be best to hold off on traveling until it goes direct on October 12.

Cancer: cultural-immersion travel

travel by zodiac sign

Set your sights on any place where you can immerse yourself with the locals or feel otherwise at home in your surroundings. "You prefer to travel with a purpose and like to mirror the cultures you encounter when possible," says Marquardt. In another vein, you also may enjoy visiting a wellness retreat or a natural hideaway with spiritual history, which can bring a welcome sense of respite, given your emotions-driven nature. Even so, you prefer to take any journey alongside loved ones with whom you can revel in the experience.

Now that Jupiter has retrograded out of Pisces—and your travel sector—travel may be fraught for the rest of this year for you. That said, you have great energy for envisioning and planning the vacation of your dreams at the moment, adds Marquardt.

Leo: under-the-radar destinations

travel by zodiac sign

"Leos want to go wherever few have gone before," says Marquardt. So, if you're a Leo, it's very well possible that you're already jetting off to some lesser-known island or remote jungle locale. And currently, the cosmos are aligned for an ideal trip. Mars, the ruler of your ninth house of travel, is in methodical Virgo (until September 16), granting you more energy than usual to outline and execute an exciting vacation. Bring a few free-spirited friends along with you to make the most of the trip.

Virgo: experiential travel

travel by zodiac sign

You're probably all set for this year's excursions, Virgo, given travel planning comes naturally to you. "Virgos do get teased for being too detail-oriented, but they're also some of the best travel companions because they relax when they get out of their usual routines," says Marquardt. The best trip for you will be one of multi-sensory experiences: You'll seek out local food and music, and the ability to enjoy it with good company and meaningful conversation.

Starting August 21, Uranus will be retrograde in your travel zone, making it possible that a previously stunted travel plan becomes viable again. You should have no issues planning a trip from now until mid-December, at which point travel becomes dicey, due to the push-pull energy of Saturn-square-Uranus .

Libra: party trips

travel by zodiac sign

Ever the romantic, Venus-ruled Libra loves a starlit getaway with their partner—but can also dance all night with friends in a big city. "You're social by nature and crave a memorable nightlife scene," says Marquardt. In fact, you may not mind it if you end up coming home exhausted or unprepared for work the next day. After all, vacations are about new experiences for you, not necessarily relaxation.

Venus in Libra forming a harmonious trine to Saturn in Aquarius makes August 23 an exceptional day for you to travel or book a trip. Otherwise, avoid doing so from September 27 to October 18 because Mercury will retrograde in Libra during that time, upping the potential for travel mishaps or delays.

Scorpio: travel near a body of water

travel by zodiac sign

Scorpios tend to research the heck out of any destination before booking. "Safety is key for a Scorpio on the move," says Marquardt, "so they like to make sure all the reviews are positive, and they're being smart about their finances along the way."

In general, you'll thrive by the water, whether in a lake house, at the beach, or on a boat (thanks to your strong water-sign qualities ), and you'll be most comfortable traveling with people you trust deeply. From now through November, you should encounter no problems doing just that—but afterward, we enter another eclipse season, and with the moon ruling over your ninth house of travel, undesirable unpredictability may surface at that point.

Sagittarius: extravagant globe-trotting

travel by zodiac sign

You're the traveler extraordinaire, Sagittarius. With an ever-growing bucket list, you rarely need recommendations on where to go or what to do. Typically, you seek out larger-than-life vacations—for example, opting to backpack through Europe. "You have a powerful confidence even when you're immersed in unfamiliar locales," says Marquardt.

Because Jupiter is currently transiting in your third house of short-distance travel, however, you'll have an easier time with trips closer to home at the moment.

Capricorn: historically rich travel

travel by zodiac sign

Capricorns appreciate a learning excursion, or any trip that activates the mind or higher intellect. "They love to sink their teeth into the rich history of any place they visit through educational activities like going to museums or ancient ruins," says Marquardt. To that end, they also don't like having their time wasted—and if you're a Cap, you may very well be known to get fussy over the specifics of an agenda.

Because Mercury and Mars meet up in well-organized Virgo around August 19, you could feel a particular gust of travel-planning energy on that date.

Aquarius: the buzziest locales

travel by zodiac sign

Eccentric Aquarius seeks out the new and different on any trip they take. If they're from a beach town, for example, you won't find them vacationing on an island, and if they're from the mountains, they're not bound to choose hiking while traveling. "Aquarius is not afraid to do the weird or unusual, and tends to be on the cutting edge, too, visiting the soon-to-be-hyped hotel or restaurant before it's cool," says Marquardt.

If this is you, you've likely traveled this year or feel the urge to do so: Jupiter has been and continues to remain in your sign, sending big travel energy your way. Just avoid planning a trip for mid-December, when your two ruling planets , Saturn and Uranus, will be in a direct, oppositional square.

Pisces: spontaneous travel

travel by zodiac sign

Like your element of water, Pisces, you are a go-with-the-flow traveler—which can make you an indecisive planner, too. "If you try too hard to control the trip, you'll feel let down should things go amiss," says Marquardt. As such, you'll travel best alongside loyal companions who help sort out the logistics and necessities, while leaving the rest of the itinerary flexible for spontaneity. Given your mystical, dreamy energy, you'll particularly enjoy exploring the world's depths—whether literally, via scuba-diving, or figuratively, perhaps by uncovering untouched landscapes on a hike.

The cosmos generally supports travel for Pisces throughout the rest of the year, though Mercury and Mars meeting in Scorpio on November 10 could present a chance travel opportunity, adds Marquardt, perhaps through an invitation from a friend.

The Destination You Should Visit in 2022, Based on Your Zodiac Sign

By Ashlea Halpern

Astrocartography is a branch of astrology that shows the exact positioning of the planets at the moment you were born. The premise is that the earth holds a resonant memory of this celestial alignment; knowing your map can help you understand why you feel happier in some places than others. Anyone can produce a free astrocartography map online, but you’ll need a professional like astrocartographer Maya White to actually decode it.

“I first got into astrocartography because I needed help understanding my own life,” says White, who purchased her first astro map in 1976 after spotting an ad in a horoscope magazine. She became a certified practitioner in the late ’80s; now she offers private readings, online learning programs, and astrology retreats.

“If you have an accurate time and place of birth, it’s just amazing what information comes out,” she says, noting that it helped her understand where she should live (currently Florida) and also where to travel (she went to India, for example, because her Sun and Uranus lines crossed there).

Climate preferences, work, social environment, and family always factor into her readings. “There is no value in me telling somebody to move to South Dakota if there’s no way they’d do that,” she says. She also pinpoints so-called “trainwreck zones,” areas of the world where certain planetary lines might make for a less-than-stellar experience. Though nothing beats a personalized reading, your star sign alone can offer insight into the types of trips you enjoy most. We asked White to share destination suggestions for where to go next based on the 12 zodiac signs—because it’s never too soon to start planning.

This gallery has been updated since its original publish date.

Amanpuri Thailand

“Aries is an electric personality that bursts onto the scene with a lot of energy,” says White. “But they crave a variety of things to do because they are easily bored.” Fortunately, there are scores of diversions to keep Aries travelers entertained in Thailand. After knocking out some of Bangkok ’s greatest hits ( Wat Pho , The Grand Palace ), the ram can charge over to Ari , a fashionably hip neighborhood with cafés, boutiques, and galleries galore. This is a sign that appreciates the finer things in life, says White, so splurge on a room at Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River , a 2021 Readers’ Choice winner with a swanky vermouth cocktail bar and dreamy riverside pool. White also suggests flying north to Chiang Mai to shop for artisan crafts or head south to the Thai Islands , where a plethora of indulgent luxury resorts await. “While Aries will get lit up by a frenetic city like Bangkok, they also need to retreat and renew,” she says.

Best Places to Live Vancouver Canada

“Bulls are rigid and don’t like to be inconvenienced,” says White. “It takes a lot of energy to make them break their routine and actually go on vacation.” But like a freight train, once this earth sign gets moving, it’s unstoppable. That’s why White suggests an outdoorsy (but not too wild) destination like Vancouver . It’s easily accessible and Taurus can hunker down in a five-star hotel while still taking advantage of everything the ultra-green metropolis has to offer. That means kayaking at Jericho Beach , ziplining over the treetops at Grouse Mountain , strolling the dizzyingly high Capilano Suspension Bridge , pointing out orcas and humpbacks on a whale-watching tour , or taking an enlightening Talking Trees Tour of Stanley Park, led by a local Coast Salish guide. “Taurus is nurtured and sustained by nature,” explains White. “These activities would be exhilarating because they would pop them out of their comfort zone—but not too much.”

Edinburgh Castle illuminated by summer evening sunshine and framed by the partial silhouettes of surrounding trees

“This mutable air sign is always thinking, thinking, thinking,” says White. That’s why Edinburgh —with its “remarkable cultural depth”—is the perfect match for this intellectually curious sign. The twins tend to prioritize experiences over material things, so a thoughtfully designed, centrally located, and budget-conscious Airbnb would suit them just fine. To keep the gears turning, they can tour the caged graves at Greyfriars Kirkyard and underground tenement buildings of Mary King’s Close , ogle the Crown Jewels at Edinburgh Castle , get lost in the artifacts at the National Museum of Scotland , or climb Arthur’s Seat for spectacular views of the city. “Geminis can be real history buffs,” says White. “And Scotland is bound up in rich European history.”

overhead view of food on black table.

“Cancer needs a great hotel, but good food is equally important,” says White. That’s why she’s drawn to an epicurean getaway like Blackberry Mountain in Walland, Tennessee, the sister spin-off of the acclaimed Blackberry Farm . Nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, the inn draws well-heeled travelers who prize warm hospitality and extraordinary food and drink. After a busy day of hiking, fly fishing, or testing their balance during a paddleboard yoga session, Cancer can tuck into a seasonally inspired Southern meal at the property’s elegant Three Sisters or Firetower restaurants. (The latter boasts 360-degree mountain views, thanks to its perch in a restored forest lookout tower.) With a full belly, they may then “retreat to their protective shell”—which, in Blackberry’s case, looks like a chic cottage with a flagstone terrace, outdoor fireplace, and fine Egyptian linens. That patient Cancer may need to book their visit months in advance only adds to its appeal. “Cancer loves doing something exclusive,” says White. “It’s a way to showcase their personality, taste, and determination.”

The Johri

“Leo is quite prideful when it comes to love and beauty,” says White. “To see the Taj Mahal—built as a monument to love by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal—feeds the lion’s ego.” (There isn’t a Leo alive who wouldn’t secretly wish for the same thing.) After a pampering stay at the Moorish-Mogul Oberoi Amarvilas in Agra, White wants Leos to head east to the glittering jewel of Jaipur and check into The Johri , a new boutique property tucked inside one of the city’s oldest bazaars. Co-founded by Siddharth Kasliwal , ninth-generation owner of The Gem Palace, the inn blends sumptuous Rajasthani furnishings with quirky Wes Anderson-esque twists. Because Leos appreciate over-the-top experiences, she recommends ending the trip with a stay at the Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur, a royal palace plunked in the middle of picturesque Lake Pichola, or joining a safari at Ranthambore National Park to see other big cats—specifically wild tigers —in their natural habitat.

A Classic New England Lighthouse The Bass Harbor Head Light In The First Light Of Dawn Acadia National Park Maine USA

“Virgos like things neat and clean,” says White. “They crave structure and are uncomfortable in messy situations. But they’re also a mutable earth sign, which means they go with the flow.” Acadia National Park in Maine offers the best of all worlds: a beautiful “semi-tamed wilderness” with “well-constructed carriage paths” for easier hiking and biking. Virgo will be smitten by the stellar sunrises, says White, and will love exploring the port towns dotting the coastline—combing for colorful polished rocks at Jasper Beach in Machiasport and shopping for artisan-made furniture and handwoven textiles in Camden and Rockland. (“Virgo really values quality,” she notes.) Come nightfall, a safari-inspired glamping experience like the one offered by Under Canvas Acadia in Surry will help Virgo relax and unwind.

Lavender fields on the Plateau de Valensole Provence.

Libra is a cardinal air sign, ruled by Venus and drawn to all things beauty and art. Enter Provence , with its breathtaking fields of lavender, Impressionistic hilltop villages, and glasses brimming with the finest róse. “This is a very Libran-type society,” says White. “They appreciate good food and gracious service, revel in cultural pleasures, and see life as a canvas waiting to be painted.” (It’s no wonder so many famous artists—Cézanne, Picasso, Van Gogh—found inspiration here.) With their exacting standards, Libras lean into the finest accommodations: Hôtel Crillon le Brave in the foothills of Mont Ventoux trades in old-world charm, decorating its suites with still-lifes by renowned local artist Julian Merrow-Smith (with bowls of fresh fruit to match). Whether they’re shopping for sunflowers at the market in Aix-en-Provence, touring the Roman aqueduct bridge near Nîmes, or popping into a charming boulangerie in the narrow backstreets of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, there’s always something enchanting for Libra to behold.

overlooking the Grand Canyon at sunset

“It’s been a difficult couple of years for everyone,” says White. “But Scorpio, perhaps more than other signs, needs a renewal. They’re constantly listening to everyone else’s problems and took on more than their usual share during the pandemic.” That’s why she’s sending the mercurial scorpion to a place beyond compare: the Grand Canyon . “Scorpios get inspired by being in the presence of something greater than themselves,” she explains. “A natural wonder like the Grand Canyon humbles them and helps them recalibrate.” This is particularly true when they veer off the beaten path. Instead of joining the tourist fray at the South Rim, head to the canyon’s lesser-trafficked North Rim or sign up for an intense multi-day rafting trip on the Colorado River. Post-pandemic, hiking to stunning Havasu falls in the Havasupai Indian Reservation would be a dream come true. (For now, the grounds remain closed to tourism to protect its tribal habitants.)

Herd of elephants in the african savannah

Sagittarius

“Sagittarius loves to travel,” says White of the intrepid archer, a mutable fire sign that’s always on the hunt for its next adventure. After two years of pandemic-related lockdowns, White sees something epic in Sag’s future: a safari to Kruger National Park in South Africa and/or an ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania . “The archer has a wild streak and feels rejuvenated in the presence of animals and birds.” Tackling something physically immersive like a walking safari or climbing expedition would feel especially kinesthetic. “Sagittarius needs a wilderness experience to heal their spirit and deepen their connection with self,” says White. There’s just one caveat: While Sags aren’t terribly uppity about accommodations, they do require decent Wi-Fi. (To hang out with giraffes is amazing and all—but even more satisfying if they can share it on Instagram.)

boats on water

The sea goat is ruled by Saturn, the taskmaster of all planets—so naturally, this serious earth sign wants to feel like the master of their own destiny. “Capricorns also appreciate status,” says White. “They’re not as flashy as Leo, but they’re still climbers—socially and financially.” That’s why White recommends chartering a yacht in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, or other beachy idyll. The Moorings , in particular, catches her eye because the long-running outfitter books crewed yachts with a professional captain and first mate as well as more D.I.Y. adventures where a licensed guest can steer their own ship. In the British Virgin Islands, this means Cap designs their own itinerary, penciling in grotto wading at The Baths National Park in Virgin Gorda or snorkeling with blue-striped grunt at Monkey Point off Guana Island. Captaining one’s own ship is the more affordable option too, which appeals to Cap’s need to control the purse strings.

waterfall to the left of a suspension bridge in Ecuador.

This fixed air sign is ruled by Uranus, the planet of questioning and innovation. “They need to be mentally stimulated,” says White. “They’re deep and eclectic thinkers who prize inventiveness and want to understand the forces that drive creation.” Aquarians also tend to be humanitarian, keen to change the world for the better. White believes a journey to the heart of the Ecuadorian Amazon would be eye opening for the inquisitive water bearer. ( Papangu Tours , an Indigenous tour operator, can make the arrangements.) They’re intrigued by other people’s lives and spirituality and would want to educate themselves about the oil, mining, and logging industries threatening sacred jungle land and communities. Aquarius might also like to experience a healing session with an Indigenous shaman. (Experimenting with ayahuasca is optional, as many Aquarians are happy to live vicariously through the transcendental experiences of others.) “This adventure is a total wild card, but one Aquarius would absolutely embrace,” says White. “It’s also a bit of a bragging point. Aquarius likes being different, tackling something others may perceive as strange or crazy.”

North Island a Luxury Collection Resort Seychelles

White calls this mutable sign “the environmentalist of the Zodiac” because they care deeply about the earth and their role in it. Symbolized by two fish swimming in opposite directions, Pisces is naturally drawn to watery destinations—the farther flung, the better. The Seychelles , a small island nation about 1,000 miles off the coast of East Africa, checks all the right boxes: A remote ecological paradise with a host of wildlife and non-motorized water sports to experience. Lock in one of 11 sustainably built, thatched-roof villas at Gold List 2020 winner North Island , sandwiched between a forest of tacamahac trees and a pristine coralline beach, and then go exploring. Pisces, which White calls a “deeply compassionate sign,” would enjoy partaking in a marine conservation program (dugongs and giant tortoises are both protected here) or other voluntourism effort. “They really do care, and want to feel like they’ve contributed,” says White.

Here's Where You Should Travel in 2024 Based on Your Zodiac Sign, According to Delta Air Lines and an Astrologer

It's written in the stars.

It’s time to start planning your 2024 getaways. But, if you’re not entirely sure of where you’d love to go in the new year, that’s OK. Delta Air Lines says it’s already written in the stars.

To help people plan the next 12 months of travel, Delta partnered with astrologer Lisa Stardust to match every zodiac sign with the perfect trip for them, including everything from beachside getaways in the U.S. to old-world European city escapes. Here’s what Stardust recommended for a few of the zodiac signs.

Aries: March 21 - April 19

  • Los Angeles
  • Dublin, Ireland

Aries, Stardust explained, are known for their independence and love of all things “bold and stimulating.” That’s why she suggested a jaunt to cities like Los Angeles or Dublin. for this particularly driven sign.

“This city will make the rambunctious ram feel as though they're on top of the world in 2024, especially during the solar eclipse on April 8, when Aries has the potential to make fated connections and deals,” Stardust’s Los Angeles recommendations read. But, for those looking for a further-flung escape, she noted Dublin, Ireland, is a great option as well. “If Aries lusts for an educational trip, this vibrant city is home to the International Literary Festival in May and the Bloomsday Festival in June.”

Taurus: April 20 – May 20

  • Lisbon, Portugal
  • Naples, Italy

Those under the Taurus sign, Stardust noted, are well-known for liking the finer things in life, which is why she suggested two of Europe’s most celebrated cities as the go-to trips for this sign in 2024.

“Lisbon [Portugal] will seduce Taurus with its beautiful architecture and lovely azulejos tiles,” the recommendation read. “Its museums and culture will get their head buzzing with excitement, and the pastel houses framed by rainbow sunsets will ignite this sign’s artistic side.” While in Lisbon, we’d also recommend picking up a pastel de nata or two , even if you’re not a Taurus. But that’s not all. She also offered Naples, Italy, as a second vacation solution. “Naples can keep up with the bull’s stamina by offering a variety of activities,” the recommendation added.

Gemini: May 21- June 21

  • Sydney, Australia

According to Stardust (and really anyone who knows a Gemini in real life), Geminis are known to be perpetual social butteries and love to make friends wherever they go. Which is why she recommended not one but two cities to explore and interact with locals. And they couldn’t be more literally opposite one another on the map.

“[ Sydney, Australia ] adventure-filled destination provides Gemini a plethora of options to explore, like relaxing at the famous Bondi Beach or walking the Sydney Harbor Bridge for gorgeous, Instagrammable views of the city,” Stardust’s first recommendation read. It was followed by Boston, Massachusetts, some 10,000 miles away. “This major city has it all: green spaces, galleries, museums, and a bustling restaurant and bar scene,” all of which the Geminis are bound to love.

Cancer: June 22- July 22

  • Barcelona, Spain

Leo: July 23 – August 22

  • Sao Paulo, Brazil
  • New York City

Virgo: August 23 – September 22

  • Tulum, Mexico

Libra: September 23 – October 23

Scorpio: october 24 – november 21.

  • San Juan, Puerto Rico
  • Auckland, New Zealand

Sagittarius: November 22 – December 21

  • Bogota, Colombia

Capricorn: December 22 – January 19

  • Shannon, Ireland
  • Munich, Germany

Aquarius: January 20 – February 18

  • Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

As Stardust shared, anyone born under the Aquarius sign is likely to experience the beauty of Mother Nature and find a few hidden gems. This is why Stardust believes Austin and Rio may be in their future.

“Barton Springs’ calming waters will … provide a much-needed dose of nature and restoration for Aquarius,” Stardust wrote about this natural wonder in Austin. As for Rio, it’s all about the water’s edge here too. “Aquarius can have a lively getaway and celebrate the festival with visitors and locals, or stroll along the seaside, taking in sweet sounds of Bossa Nova and Samba.”

Pisces: February 19 – March 20

  • Honolulu, Hawaii
  • Santa Barbara, California

Pisces, Stardust reveals, are drawn to romance and places where their “vivid imagination” can run wild. And that’s exactly why the drop-dead gorgeous oceanfront destinations of Honolulu and Santa Barbara make the perfect 2024 fit.

“Pisces can … relax on white beaches or visit Honolulu’s Museum of Art featuring works from across Asia, the U.S., and Europe for an inspiring escape,” Stardust’s recommendations read. As for Santa Barbara, that recommendation all comes down to spots like Inspiration Point, where a Pisces can hike “clear their mind” in the new year, a hiking destination we here at Travel + Leisure adore as well .

“I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list" is one of the most well-known quotes about traveling. But with limited time off and budget constraints, the truth of the matter is that most travelers won’t get to every single destination on their bucket lists. Even so, the world is more connected and accessible than ever before, and many people are itching to get back out into the world after a couple of tumultuous, homebound years. The demand for travel, especially meaningful experiences, has never been higher. To take some of the guesswork out of where you should travel next, we have the perfect solution: Enter trips based on your zodiac sign—a fun, whimsical, and slightly quirky way to pick your next destination.

Aries: Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda

trekking to see mountain gorillas in volcanoes national park rwanda

A gorilla safari in Rwanda is one of the most amazing animal experiences on earth, and it’s a great option for the ram sign. According to Cardinal, Aries is a mission-oriented sign, and as the first sign of the zodiac, they also aren't afraid to step into unknown territory on their expedition. "They'll appreciate being able to traverse land mostly unbothered by crowds of tourists and taking in authentic, natural sights of the animals in their habitat," Cardinal says.

Taurus: Eating Your Way Through Emilia-Romagna, Italy

emiglia romana

Taurus is ruled by the planet Venus and is associated with not just the physical quality of food, but its beauty and excellence, making a country known for its food the perfect getaway. Cardinal adds, "The Emilia-Romagna region's culinary distinction, slower pace less the busy tourism, and amazing architecture and art make it the ideal destination for Taurus to use their senses." Heritage foods like Parmesan cheese, balsamic vinegar, and Parma ham help this area shine brighter than any other Italian region in terms of gastronomy.

Gemini: Taking a Scenic Train Through Canada

rocky mountaineer

Our astrology pro explained that the Gemini mind is constantly moving, winding from one place to another in a way that might take the rest of us an extra beat to catch up. She says, "They love learning, exploring, and stories. A journey on the Rocky Mountaineer train through Canada immerses them in amazing sights while they can listen to hosts entertain them with stories and information on what they're seeing." The twin sign can appreciate the ambiance and sophistication of train travel, which harkens back to a different time.

Cancer: Skiing in Snowmass, Colorado

viewline resort snowmass

The pristine and charming ski town of Snowmass makes for an ideal destination for our crab friends. "A nonstop high-energy adventure is not for everyone, and since Cancer is driven by the ebbs and flows of emotion and energy, they would do best to travel to a place where they can choose from varying activities to suit their current tune, be that hitting the slopes, exploring local restaurants, riding the coaster, or taking the kids to play games in the village," Cardinal says. Lodging options like private rentals or the Viewline Resort are sure to satisfy for this mountain escape (and give Cancer a place to return to when they've adventured enough for the day and crave the creature comforts of a luxe hotel).

Leo: Exploring Wine Country in Sonoma County, California

macarthur place

Leo loves creativity and recreation, making this premier wine destination a win-win. Cardinal says, "Being ruled by the sun, the center of the solar system, Leo also expects the best. A trip to Sonoma is a perfect fit for Leo to experience renowned and innovative wines with a bonus of longer, sunnier summer seasons." Travelers can stay in the heart of it all at MacArthur Place in Sonoma proper and take a floral design class to foster creativity or use the complimentary e-bikes for a dose of recreation.

Virgo: Enjoying Lake Life in Minnesota

northern minnesota lake sunset

A trip to the land of 10,000 lakes and its nicest "up north" resort, Grand View Lodge , calls to the maiden sign. "Virgo appreciates a balance between lively physical activities and keeping to a regular routine, which is why they'll love the availability of individual cabins and cottages to maintain their own space. Further, given Virgo's practical nature, their idea of relaxation doesn't need to be flashy and extravagant. The menu of down-to-earth activities at this locale, such as fishing, lawn games, and kayaking, will be perfect for Virgo to feel like they still get to do something special, but in a way that is genuine to them," Cardinal shares.

Libra: Basking in the Beauty of Fiji

scenic shoreline of taveuni, fiji

Libra is not only notorious for seeking a harmonious balance of everything, but they appreciate seeking out beauty in all forms. Cardinal explains, "The beaches of Fiji not only are hypnotically beautiful, but the islands also [allow] Libra to explore a little bit of everything, such as water activities, zip lining, massages, and participating in authentic ceremonies and discovering alluring local culture." Start on the main island at the Marriot Momi Bay before escaping to luxury boutique operations like VOMO or Jean Michel Cousteau Resort .

Scorpio: Treating Yourself in Bodrum, Turkey

susona bodrum

"Scorpio has a particular affinity for the sensuous," says Cardinal. "In a luxury destination such as Bodrum, Scorpio can thoroughly immerse into the pleasurable milieu in order to shed all the stressors of real life and come back restored—especially by indulging a transformative hammam ritual or scrub treatment," she says. Read our guide to 2023's next big destination here .

Sagittarius: Getting Cultured in Paris, France

paris cityscape with eiffel tower at sunset

A classic Euro trip, France’s upscale capital entices the centaur sign as an ideal destination. “Sagittarius’s ruling planet is Jupiter, the biggest and flashiest in the solar system, and likewise, Sagittarius loves experiences that are grandiose and culturally enriching on a large scale. Paris has everything—fare, history, art, architecture—and a lot of it,” shares Cardinal.

Capricorn: Unwinding in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

the excellence collection punta cana

A luxe Caribbean escape calls to the goat sign, as Capricorn tends to linearly strive to accomplish and succeed, holding high standards for themself. “This clean, sharp all-inclusive resort, Finest Punta Cana , is an ideal location for Capricorn to finally let someone else take control so they can unwind with an uncomplicated itinerary, on-site childcare, sleek pool, and spa,” Cardinal says.

Aquarius: Amelia Island, Florida

what is a workcation

Water bearer Aquarius loves to do things differently than the rest. Cardinal adds, “Amelia Island, a lesser-known hidden gem of beachy paradise, will suit Aquarius’s desire for unique experiences. Its quieter atmosphere will be a perfect place for Aquarius’s busy mind to sit still for a while.” Visitors can lay their heads at the upscale Ritz Carlton Amelia Island , the perfect home base for a trip to the sleepy, enchanting island.

Pisces: Sailing the Greek Isles

percepture windstar greek isles sailing

“Pisces is a fluid, enchanting sign with a tendency to envision images and artistry that the rest of us can’t always perceive,” shares Cardinal. She adds, “A sailing trip through the Greek isles with Windstar not only honors the water element of Pisces but will also put the traveler on fantastically blue waters and dreamy sights of towns that, unless you see them in person, seem more like a painting than real life.” This longtime itinerary is consistently a best seller, specially tailored for the fish sign.

Get your bearings in Mykonos Town by exploring its maze-like lanes lined with churches and purple-hued bougainvillea, then hit one of the area’s many swanky beach bars like Nammos , where you’ll rub shoulders with A-lister’s like Leonardo DiCaprio. Your party pad is the Boheme Mykonos , a 20-suite boutique property that combines traditional Mykonos style (whitewashed walls, stone floors, wooden shutters) with a contemporary bohemian aesthetic (bright Acapulco chairs, graphic print fabrics, bean bags).

Trip: A far-flung escape to Mongolia, where golden deserts, rugged mountains, and vast steppes will make you feel like you’re at the edge of the world. Journey to the Gobi Desert—an otherworldly, fossil-rich landscape that looks straight out of Jurassic Park —to see petroglyphs, meet Kazkh hunters, and discover where the world’s first dinosaur bones and egg were found. After a long day of exploring, unwind at the Three Camel Lodge , a sustainable hotel comprised of 50 ‘gers’ (Mongolian-style yurts)—all equipped with wood stove, hand-painted beds, and artisan-made furnishings.

On your cultural hit list: Borobudur , the largest Buddhist temple in the world and the most visited tourist site in the country;  Prambanan , the Hindu temple whose majestic ancient spires tower above the city; and Kota Gede , Yogyakarta’s old town, built more than 400 years ago. Trip: A brain-off-bliss-out vacation to Jicaro—a tiny isle in the middle of Lake Nicaragua, just off the coast of Grenada. There’s not a single TV on the entire island and you’d be hard-pressed to find a WiFi signal. Zip line through the jungle canopy or paddle out to the freshwater lake to spot howler monkeys, lake turtles and over 90 species of birds. The Jicaro Island Ecolodge is a sustainable retreat with a lakeside spa, yoga classes, and organic dining. Tap Your Inner Astrologer: Where to Travel Next Based on Your Zodiac Sign

Planning your year of travel and stumped on where to start? Let your sun sign be your guide.

According to astrology, each sign grants certain traits that are universal to anyone born during that sign’s cycle. Match your sign’s characteristics to a destination’s unique vibe and you have a match made in the heavens.

As always, check for travel guidelines and closures before planning your trip.

Illustration of Capricorn zodiac sign

It’s all about the money, money, money for Capricorns — and they’ve worked hard for it. Caps are experts at navigating finances and are excellent savers, so they likely have enough funds in stowage for  Singapore .

The  well-heeled setting of “Crazy Rich Asians”  is where Capricorns will find plenty of opportunities to exercise their credit cards and find a few networking opps in the meantime. After all, for Capricorns, every  vacation is bleisure.

Singapore is full of luxe shopping and Michelin-starred restaurants. It’s also where you’ll find  The Singapore EDITION , an ultra-chic hotel that embodies the country’s unique balance of gentle, calming yin and bustling, energetic yang.

Illustration of Aquarius zodiac sign

Mystical or spiritual exploration? Aquarians are into it. And Machu Picchu in  Peru  is a bucket-list-worthy destination for this air sign.

The mythology and speculation around Machu Picchu are widely known. It is understood to have been an  estate or religious site for the Incas  until the 16th century. Today, the UNESCO world heritage site continues to inspire awe in those who visit.

Before heading into the misty mountains for a tour of Machu Picchu, you’ll have to spend a night or two in Cusco, a terracotta-hued city with the beautiful  JW Marriott El Convento Cusco , a former Augustinian convent, at its center. Though the building has been fully transformed, you can view ancient Inca ruins in the basement.

Illustration of Pisces zodiac sign

There’s nothing Pisces won’t like about  Seattle  — moody weather, long chats in storied coffeehouses, plenty of opportunities to be near the water. Guided by their emotions, Pisces are bound to love the Pacific Northwest, and the  Seattle Marriott Waterfront  is the perfect backdrop for a seaside sojourn.

Visit spots like the  Seattle Aquarium ,  Chihuly Garden and Glass , and the  Seattle Art Museum  to get in touch with your deeper side.

Stop by  Pike Place Market  and the home of the  very first Starbucks Coffee location  before heading back to the Seattle Marriott Waterfront to sip your brew while enjoying the view of Elliott Bay.

Illustration of Aries zodiac sign

If there’s anything Aries look for in a vacation destination, it’s adventure and excitement. (Bragging rights don’t hurt, either.) These warriors are always looking for somewhere far-flung and super fun, and  Phuket , Thailand, is where the party doesn’t stop. Whether it’s a beach bash on a sugary strip of sand or an all-night club hop, Aries are in it to bring home travel stories that will leave their friends speechless.

The Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa, Phuket  is just what an Aries needs to unwind after a long day of adventuring and before heading back out on the town for round two. With panoramic sea views and a showstopping infinity pool, the hotel offers a relaxing respite from Phuket’s nonstop fun.

Illustration of Taurus zodiac sign

A picturesque destination where comfort and luxury are around every corner? Sign a Taurus up. The bull is all for anything that caters to cozy creature comforts, and  Switzerland  — known as the priciest country in Europe — is just the place to indulge by a fireplace, enjoy a foamy Swiss coffee and watch the beauty around you.

Overlooking the Alps and Lake Geneva, the  Grand Hotel Suisse Majestic, Autograph Collection  is elegant and timeless. The building is an example of the opulence of late-19th-century Belle Epoque architecture and design, which is carried through the plush rooms and the stunning dining concept,  Le 45 .

Illustration of Gemini zodiac sign

With Geminis, you get both sides of the coin. On one hand, they’re friendly, flirty and gifted with gab. On the other, they’re introspective, impulsive and intelligent.  Tunis , Tunisia, with its friendly locals and heaps of history, is a sweet spot for the sign of the twins.

In the heart of Tunisia’s capital city, the  Tunis Marriott Hotel  is the perfect spot from which to explore. Wander the romantic alleyways of the historical center, and visit the  ruins of Carthage  and the  Bardo Museum , full of locally revered antiquities. Visitors will find that many locals are ready with recommendations for authentic experiences, and chatty Geminis should feel right at home in their company.

Illustration of Cancer zodiac sign

A visit to the enchanting city of  Halifax , Nova Scotia, will feel like a homecoming to this water sign. With a rich maritime history and a sense of comfort and familiarity, the city’s vibe is warm and welcoming — perfect for Cancers.

Halifax’s vibrant  cultural , culinary and art scenes offer opportunities for the intuitive sign to explore deeper connections. Cancers love a place where they can indulge in reflective moments, and they’ll find solace in the serene beauty of places like Peggy’s Cove and Cabot Trail.

With incredible sea views,  Muir, Autograph Collection , is where Cancers should  set up shop in Halifax . The hotel, named for the famed naturalist, is home to the most desirable waterfront terrace, a private art gallery, a hidden speakeasy and a spa where Cancers will feel pampered and blissed out.

Illustration of Leo zodiac sign

Confident, friendly, loyal: Leos have exactly what makes the Second City a place the lion will love.  Chicago’s  unique brand of Midwest niceties and big-city ambition offers plenty of opportunities for fun-loving Leos to make friends and enjoy life — traits that come easily to them.

The  Moxy Chicago Downtown  will cater to this sense of confidence and charisma. Set in the River North neighborhood, this funky hotel oozes dynamism and spirit, and Chicago’s impressive skyline will make Leos feel on top of the world. Settle in for a cocktail at  Bar Moxy  before hitting the town, full of positive and playful vibes.

Illustration of Virgo zodiac sign

Virgos appreciate precision and logic in all they see and do, so they’re sure to find calm in  Calgary’s  meticulous city planning. Known as the “cleanest city in Canada” for good reason, Calgary is lauded for its well-organized urban layout, modern and sleek architecture, and efficient, easy-to-use public transportation system.

At  Delta Hotels by Marriott Calgary Downtown , you’ll be right in the center of the city’s action while remaining  close to the mountains and other outdoor adventures  Virgos also love. The welcoming vibe and famous Canadian politesse will have Virgos looking up Calgary’s real estate market in no time.

Illustration of Libra zodiac sign

Friendly, intelligent and frank — all things that make Libras lovable — Dublin’s vibe oozes “cool-girl” energy.  Dublin  is a balanced destination for the sign of the scales, with its vibrant culture and opportunities for tranquility.

The city’s convivial atmosphere will speak to Libras on a visceral level, while its historical heritage — it was home to literary greats like James Joyce and Oscar Wilde — will play to Libra’s intellectual side. If you need a break from the urban bustle, wander over and take a scenic (and extremely photogenic) walk along the River Liffey.

The lively  Aloft Dublin City  has the perfect atmosphere for meaningful and memorable connections to bloom for Libra.

Illustration of Scorpio zodiac sign

Intense and transformative, Scorpios will find their spirit destination in  Goa , India. From private and secluded beaches to rich spiritual heritage, this alluring coastal paradise has much to appeal to Scorpios.

On the other hand, the sign of the scorpion will find passionate energy in Goa’s nightlife, which fills beach parties and eclectic events up and down the shoreline. Make sure to learn about the evolving  Goan drinks scene  while you’re in the area.

At  W Goa , Scorpios will find the same intensity, self-discovery and immersion in Indian culture. The beachfront resort is the gateway to West India’s famous New Age raves and is a spot to see and be seen.

Sagittarius

Illustration of Sagittarius zodiac sign

Destined to fall in love with the lush landscape and dynamic energy of  Rio de Janeiro , Sagittarii will find themselves the center of attention on the iconic beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema (as well as the  city’s secret coves and beaches ).

Sagittarii are free-spirited and outgoing, so Brazil is an ideal locale for flexing their adventurous and optimistic nature, whether joining beach volleyball and soccer pickup games or  sipping caipirinhas  on the promenade.

The waterfront  Sheraton Grand Rio Hotel & Resort  is where the lush and tropical meets the sandy and sensual. With 538 hotel rooms and suites, it offers serial Sagittarius overpackers (no such thing as too many bathing suits in Brazil, after all) space for all of their luggage — along with the dozen or so friends they brought with them.

Traveling With Friends

Best strategies to make vacation enjoyable!

Print Friendly and PDF

Planning any travel this year? Let’s find the best strategies to make your vacation enjoyable, not stressful, by taking a look at your personality and zodiac sign.   Have you ever traveled with a friend and felt they cramped your style? Or how about this scenario: you go on a cruise because you heard it’s all the rage, only to discover you’re more of a landlubber than a sailor. While travel is the spice of life, it can make you salty, especially if your vacation hideaway is not a good fit.   But what if you could figure out simple travel strategies tailored to your personality? Enter astrology, your best GPS system for navigating vacations like a pro!   Each zodiac sign has unique personality quirks, which means they’ll approach situations like traveling differently. For example, an Aries is ready to hit the trails first thing in the morning, while Pisces is content to lounge around by the pool. Once you understand what suits your sign as well as your fellow jet-setting companions, you’ll be able to make better decisions. Result: happier getaways for all!

The Four Elements and Travel

Here’s what you need to know to make your journeys the best for your zodiac sign.   First of all, you’ll want to consider your element before booking your trip. There are four elements, and each sign falls under one. Your element can steer you in the right direction for the type of trip you’ll enjoy.   Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius): Fire signs need action, adventure, and plenty of Sun. Tropical vacations snorkeling with the sharks, hikes in remote locations, and treks through the jungle suit them well.    Earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn): Earth signs enjoy being in nature. Forest bathing, sunning on the beach, and remote cabins appeal to their grounded personalities. However, they’re practical, which means they might want a hybrid of city and country so they can get their coffee fix.   Air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius): Air signs are thinkers, so cities are their cup of tea. Museums, restaurants, and dancing all night at the hot clubs are the way to go if you’re one of these airy folks. While they don’t mind being outdoors, it’s better if there is concrete underneath their feet.   Water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces): Water signs love beaches, cruises, or jet skiing around a lake. If you fall under one of these signs, ensure an ocean, lake, or pool is nearby - and always pack a swimsuit.

Vacation Strategies by Zodiac Sign

Even though the elements can indicate shared interests, each zodiac sign has other characteristics unique to them.

What candy are you, based on your zodiac sign, what sign is the moon in today, what is my moon sign and what does it mean.

If you’re an Aries, you’re adventurous and impulsive, so it’s best not to pack your schedule with too many activities. Instead, keep it loose so you can see where the road takes you. Physical activity is a must.

Hiking, wandering city streets, or dancing at outdoor concerts suits your fiery nature. You can be a “last minute” type, which means you’re often at the airport minutes before takeoff.

A bit of planning will lower your tension as well as the stress levels of your travel companions. Keep other people’s needs in mind. Not everyone wants to run around at your breakneck pace.

You love to feel comfy, no matter what you’re doing. Soft clothing, cashmere wraps, noise-canceling headphones, and plenty of snacks keep you calm. While you adore nature, a beautifully appointed cabin works better than a tent. An indulgent getaway at a spa is always a good bet, too. You like to eat well, so research restaurants before you go. Don’t forget to sleep in as much as possible. After all, you’re on vacation!

However, this can be taken to the extreme, which could mean missing out on the sights. Set your alarm so you don’t miss out on the fun. Those who must travel with Taurus quickly discover they take forever to get ready. Even when they’re off the clock, they want to look good. Don’t bother trying to rush them. Instead, find something else to do until they’re ready to make their entrance.

See what not to forget on vacation !

A Gemini in a city is a sight to behold! You’ll happily flit about from one shop to another, buying souvenirs and chatting with all the locals.

You might be bilingual, so you should visit places where you can practice your language skills. Visits to bookstores are always on your agenda, no matter where you travel. You’re also keen to learn everything about the destination and are known to pester tour guides for the “real” story.

Because you need room to breathe, cruises are not your best bet. Trapped at sea gives you anxiety. You can get fidgety, especially on long plane rides. Be sure to bring plenty of reading material. Lastly, make time to rest. Your busy mind needs downtime. You don’t have to be “on the go” constantly.

You have a reputation for being a homebody. It’s true you love your home. However, you do enjoy traveling, provided you’re in control. You enjoy planning, packing, and organizing your brood, but that can quickly turn to nagging if things don’t go your way. If you can find a way to create a sense of order without micromanaging, everyone will have a better time.

Beaches, camping, cruises, and “staycations” appeal to you. Cozy cabins are also on your favorite list because it feels like home.

Comfortable beds are a must, and kitchens are a plus. Special note: Cancer children can become anxious when they are too far from home. Pack a favorite toy to calm their nerves.

If you’re a Lion, you like to live large and travel in style. Leos are the maximalists of the zodiac. It’s no surprise that you tend to overpack. While your loved ones prefer carry-ons, you must resort to check-in because you need plenty of outfits and hair care for your famous mane. Even if you learn to pack light, you’ll never show up at the airport looking like a slob. After all, the world is your runway!

Four-star hotels, all-inclusive resorts, or sunny destinations make your big heart happy. If you say yes to camping, it needs to be “glamping” with all the creature comforts. Because you’re a fire sign and an extrovert, you’re always up for adventure and often the life of every party. That person grabbing the mic at the island karaoke bar? Yep, it’s probably a Leo.

You’re the practical type, so planning is right up your alley. You love to organize all the details and seem to find the best deals. Because order is important to you, your packing skills are unmatched. Like a Tetris game, every item will be carefully put away, preferably in packing cubes. Itineraries soothe your nerves.

However, you lose your cool if your travel companions are late or the plane is delayed. Remember: not everything runs on your schedule. Create some breathing room, or bring a book to occupy your mind. Many Virgos prefer work vacations so they can feel productive and get a tax write-off. While that’s admirable, it might be wise sometimes to plan a trip with nothing to do at all. Give your busy brain a break!

You are a wonderful travel companion. You’re charming, considerate, and always up for a good time. No wonder everyone wants to hit the road with you! While beautiful cities like Paris are your fave habitats, you are also open to long walks on the beach. As long as the environment isn’t too dirty or unsafe, you’re in!

travel by zodiac sign

Regarding packing, you tend to bring too much, especially your favorite grooming products. After all, appearances are important to you. Instead of bringing the whole kit and caboodle, take only what is necessary. Same with your clothes. A capsule wardrobe will keep you looking fab and prevent those baggage fees.

Watch out for a tendency to stifle your needs to keep the peace with others. If you don’t want to go on a ten-mile hike through the mountains on a humid day, say it. It’s perfectly fine to let everyone else go off on those adventures while you do something more fabulous.

You don’t mind staycations or trips to remote places. In fact, you prefer being away from the rest of civilization as much as possible. However, you don’t mind big cities. You can get lost in the crowds, moving around people undetected like a secret agent. Bring as many black clothes as possible to keep that cool allure.

You never mind traveling alone. In fact, you prefer it. Scorpios are the best solo travelers of all. Research is your jam, and you are known to scour the internet for interesting, off-the-beaten-path destinations.

Dangerous parts of the world appeal to you, too. While that could set you up for thrills, it could also lead to trouble. Satisfy your curiosity about the underworld by choosing hot spots like New York, which perfectly blend glam and grime.

Sagittarius

The open roads and friendly skies are always waiting for you. You’re the most adventurous traveler and probably have more stamps than any other sign on your passport. You’re especially fond of the outdoors.

Trips to gorgeous landscapes, skiing on the Swiss Alps, long hikes, meandering through ancient cities— yes, please. If you travel with others, please remember not everyone will keep up with your pace. Slow down, and you might discover many new things along the way.

Traveling light serves your free-spirited nature. Spontaneous road trips are always good, especially when you feel too tied down. If you travel with a Sagittarius child, give them space to run around. They don’t fare well on long journeys where they are forced to sit.

travel by zodiac sign

Next to Virgo, you’re the most organized traveler. You never go without an agenda and map. History appeals to you, so traveling to ancient locations such as Egypt or Rome satisfies your need to know where things originated.

Quality is essential, so nice hotels and beautiful luggage matter. (The best-dressed person at the airport is usually a Capricorn.)

While you don’t mind traveling solo, group excursions help you feel less lonely. However, because you’re so capable, you might take the lead. Learn to sit back and trust your tour guides.

Early morning flights will keep you calm, while long train rides give you an excuse to work while whizzing through gorgeous landscapes.

You love seeing how the rest of the world lives, so traveling to parts unknown will satisfy your curiosity. You’re also intrigued with outer space, so perhaps a rocket ride is in your future?

Even if you never get to the moon, you’ll be someone who’s seeking the more exciting destinations. Always up for a good time, you can mix with people from all walks of life. This means you’re versatile and an excellent travel companion.

You’re also adept at mixing with the locals, which allows you to get invites into places other people never see. Technology is your friend, so download the latest travel apps. It will make your travels more efficient.

Oceans should always be part of your travel plans. If not oceans, some body of water. Pools count, too. It’s good for your soul. Not just because you’re born under the sign of the Fish but because you’re sensitive.

You can be nervous in loud cities, but you can recharge if you have a water source nearby. A long cruise to Alaska to see the whales should be added to your bucket list. When it comes to packing and planning, you are not the most organized. Bring a Virgo or Capricorn along and let them handle the details.

Watch out for a tendency to get conned by people who play on your sympathetic nature. Learn about scams in the place you intend to visit before you set sail, and you’ll stay out of trouble. Lastly, you tend to get lost, so be sure always to have your GPS turned on.

Enjoy learning about you and your zodiac sign. See the perfect houseplant for your personality !

Where to Travel This Year, Based on Your Astrological Sign

01/30/2022 by Emily Becker Leave a Comment

Astrology, particularly star signs, has gained a lot of mainstream popularity in recent years. Sure, some people might think that asking about someone’s sign immediately after meeting them (guilty!) is a red flag. With all the daily horoscopes out there that are so general that they could apply to anyone, it’s fair to say that astrology is often painted as a nonsense pseudoscience.

In any case, I think the concept of every person having a complex chart of stars and planets is pretty neat. If you think about it, each one of us is a tiny universe of intricate personality traits that may (or may not) have something to do with the exact time and place we were born. That’s the concept of astrology — that the alignment of the universe dictates our soul’s expression and destiny.

Our sun sign is determined by the day you were born, i.e., the position of the sun. It’s the sign that most people know about themselves and often refer to as their “zodiac sign.”

This is a list of places you should consider traveling to this year, based on your astrological sun sign (your birthday):

Table of Contents

Aries: March 21-April 19

travel by zodiac sign

Those born under Aries (a fire sign) love action, adventure, and excitement when they travel. Sure, sitting on a beach somewhere is a welcome vacation for anyone, but an Aries looks for something a bit more than just that. A destination that offers outdoor activities such as zip-lining, wakeboarding, skiing, or riding in a helicopter is ideal.

Here are a few ideas for Aries people:

  • Antigua and Barbuda, Caribbean : Sure, this island destination is a gorgeous place to relax, but it’s also full of adventure. Here are 14 adventurous things to do there so you can start planning your trip.
  • Riviera Maya, Mexico : Another warm and beachy destination, the Riviera Maya extends along Mexico’s Caribbean coast and is mostly known for its big resorts. However, there is plenty to do there for an action-packed trip. There are lots of unexpected things to do on the Riviera Maya that even a restless Aries won’t get bored of.
  • Lassen Volcanic National Park, California : Is it clichéd to add a literal volcano to this fire sign’s list of travel recommendations? Oh, well! Lassen Volcanic National Park is perfect for an outdoorsy Aries. Find your Lassen itinerary here.

Taurus: April 20-May 20

Tauruses (born under the most indulgent and lavish earth sign) might enjoy a luxurious vacation where they can unwind and pamper themselves, while also connecting with the great outdoors. Options that include enjoying the gifts of nature while also having comfortable accommodations are ideal for a Taurus. Glamping in a national park or staying in a treehouse on a remote island or at a luxe resort are all a Taurus’s dream.

Consider these destinations:

  • Bora Bora : Even if you don’t want to splurge on an overwater bungalow, Bora Bora has plenty of lush places to stay. The immaculate scenes there appear too beautiful to be real, which is definitely up to a Taurus’s high standards. Check out this Bora Bora itinerary for inspo.
  • NorCal road trip : For the Tauruses out there that love a good road trip and some prime outdoors time, head to Northern California. Hit up Redwoods National Park and other earthy places along the way on this NorCal itinerary .
  • Oahu, Hawai’i : Another beach spot, Oahu is perfect for a Taurus because of its balance of luxury and adventure. You’ll have access to all the finer things that a Taurus loves, with plenty of opportunities to get out and explore nature. Find an awesome list of things to do on Oahu here .

Gemini: May 21-June 20

travel by zodiac sign

Gemini is the air sign that most literally depicts duality and partnership, so those born at this time love to have company when they travel. Air signs are also very intellectual and need stimulation, so road trips or destinations that involve a lot of sightseeing and moving quickly from place to place are ideal.

Here are my top picks for these social butterflies:

  • Oregon road trip : A road trip through green Oregon is great for a restless Gemini, who can enjoy the trip with a group of friends or their partner, chatting and hanging out the whole way. Check out this Oregon road trip for some ideas.
  • New Orleans, Louisiana : For Geminis who love to meet new people and enjoy a night on the town, New Orleans is the place to go. Plus, there’s a ton of history to stimulate a Gemini’s racing mind. This is a great spot for solo traveling as well, because there are plenty of opportunities to socialize, even if traveling alone. Here are some ideas to get you started planning your NOLA adventure .
  • Greece, island-hopping : Let’s face it, if a Gemini is heading to Greece, one island just isn’t enough. Rent a boat and go island-hopping, solo or with a group of friends. Read more about island-hopping in Greece here .

Cancer: June 21-July 22

how to rent a boat in greece

Cancer is known to be the most sentimental and sensitive of the zodiac signs, so Cancers tend to gravitate toward destinations with a lot of soul. These places provide opportunities to learn about a different culture and fully immerse oneself. Speaking of immersion, Cancers also thrive near bodies of water, since it’s a water sign.

These places combine both cultural richness and opportunities to be close to water:

  • Santorini, Greece : Because it’s an island, this one is a no-brainer. Santorini has all the gorgeous blue water a Cancer dreams of, plus the added bonus of being a hub for Greek culture and cuisine. Here’s how to have a dreamy vacation in Santorini.
  • San Cristóbal de las Casas, Mexico : While it may be landlocked, San Cristóbal de las Casas in Mexico is a great launching point for the abundant waterfalls of Chiapas . Plus, it’s packed with Mexican culture and tends to attract all kinds of creative people, which is a great match for artsy Cancers. Find more info on San Cristóbal de las Casas here.
  • Amalfi Coast, Italy: Italy’s Amalfi Coast has a storybook charm that is sure to enchant anyone, let alone a romantic Cancer. For these water signs, there are plenty of lakes and idyllic coastlines. Get more Amalfi Coast inspiration here.

Leo: July 23-August 22

sossusvlei namibia

Super independent and always down for an off-the-grid adventure, fiery Leos want the bragging rights of going to places that their friends haven’t even heard of. Whether it’s jetting off to a faraway country or heading into the wilderness in their home state, Leos thrive in new environments because of their self-confidence. Leos make decisions easily and are always looking out for themselves and others, making these adventurous destinations perfect for them:

  • Southern Utah : Much of southern Utah has yet to be explored by many travelers, so it’s great for a Leo. Pack your bags for a remote journey, using this southern Utah itinerary to uncover the best secret places.
  • Angkor Wat, Cambodia : Although literal millions of tourists visit these impressive ruins each year, the sheer awe of seeing Angkor Wat is what a Leo is looking for in a travel experience. Get more Cambodia inspiration here.
  • Namibia : How many of your friends can say they’ve sand-surfed in the desert of Namibia? I’d bet not many. Get out there and try something new, embracing the wildness of the desert. See this guide to road-tripping in Namibia to start planning your trip.

Virgo: August 23-September 22

travel by zodiac sign

Virgos are known for being hyperorganized and neat. Those born under this earth sign are experts at planning their travel, down to the smallest detail. However, traveling Virgos thrive when they have the opportunity to have bold and memorable experiences, often looking for places where they can dive in and learn something new.

For curious and pragmatic Virgos, these destinations are all about experiential travel:

  • New Mexico road trip : Planning a road trip is a Virgo’s dream, and heading to New Mexico to learn about earthships is even more ideal. Not only will you be able to plan each stop to a T, you’ll also be able to learn about sustainable building and biotecture . Win-win! Find out more about planning a New Mexico road trip here .
  • Iceland : Another great place for a road trip (on the Ring Road , for example), Iceland has had a recent boom in tourism that means that planning a trip there is an absolute breeze. Plus, the gorgeous landscapes are enough to make anyone born under this earth sign very happy. Get started on your Icelandic adventure here .
  • Tofo Beach, Mozambique : Mozambique is very much off the beaten path, making it a great challenge in flexibility for an otherwise rigid Virgo. The experience of connecting genuinely with locals and learning about Mozambican culture will make it worthwhile, though. See this guide on traveling to Tofo, Mozambique , to start planning.

Libra: September 23-October 22

travel by zodiac sign

Libras are all about balance and aesthetics, tending to choose travel destinations that are not only drop-dead gorgeous but ideal for sharing with a friend or partner. Libra being an air sign, those born under it are dreamers who tend to get in their head, so they need to travel somewhere they can truly disconnect and relax. On the other hand, cities with a vibrant scene are also great for social Libras who want to venture out and meet new people. See what I mean about balance?

These destinations have the equilibrium that Libras seek:

  • Aruba : Not only is this an island paradise, but it also has a vibrant culture and tends to be very social, with lots of intermingling between visitors and locals. There’s plenty to do in Aruba if you’re traveling solo , too. Get more Aruba tips and suggestions here.
  • Savannah, Georgia : With thriving nightlife, a colorful aesthetic, and plenty to do around town, Savannah couldn’t be more perfect for a day-dreaming Libra. There’s a ton of history there, plus an incredible food and bar scene to enjoy solo or with a companion. Find more Savannah tips here .
  • Tahiti : What could be more aesthetically pleasing than hanging out at a resort in Tahiti? The contrast of green mountains with cobalt blue water is fit for any Libra, if you ask me. Start planning your Tahitian getaway here .

Scorpio: October 23-November 21

arizona itinerary

Scorpio is known as one of the most intense signs of the zodiac, so Scorpios look for depth, literally and figuratively, wherever they go. They tend to yearn for travel experiences that challenge them; places with loads of history to uncover or that have deep spiritual meaning are ideal for traveling Scorpios. And they always try to find somewhere with a body of water, which makes sense, considering it’s a water sign.

These are my picks for Scorpios (trust me on this one, as I’m a Scorpio myself!):

  • Baja California Sur, Mexico : Pair the cultural richness of Mexico with incredible beaches and you’ve landed on a Scorpio’s dream destination. Between road-tripping along Baja’s coast to exploring idyllic towns, there’s plenty to keep an antsy Scorpio entertained here.
  • Big Island, Hawai’i : As Hawai’i’s most adventurous island, the Big Island has everything to keep those born under this water sign satisfied: snorkeling opportunities, jaw-dropping hikes, and a few sacred places to explore. Check out everything there is to do on the Big Island here for more ideas.
  • Havasu Falls, Arizona : Located on the Havasupai Reservation, the 10-mile hike to Havasu Falls is totally worth it for any waterfall enthusiast. Plus, there’s plenty to learn about the reservation itself along the way, which is great for a Scorpio’s curious heart. Here’s everything you need to know about the Havasu Falls hike .

Sagittarius: November 22-December 21

lavender provence

I think it’s fair to say that a Sagittarius’s travel bucket list is pretty long. Those born under this fire sign are as adventurous as they are over-the-top, so a destination with a huge wow factor is in order. Whether it’s a quick, action-packed road trip or a faraway journey, they want to keep their schedule full of exciting things to do.

A Sagittarius is likely to get bored if the only thing on the agenda is sipping cocktails on the beach, so these destinations have plenty to keep them entertained:

  • Utah national parks road trip : Utah’s diverse landscape is full of unearthly rock formations, plunging canyons, towering mountains, and more. With so many awe-inspiring things to see, a Utah national parks road trip is certainly in order for a daring Sagittarius.
  • Provence, France : There’s something pretty impressive about having the chance to frolic through miles and miles of lavender fields, which is something you can do in Provence. A destination like this one is great to add to a European itinerary with lots of stops in other diverse places. Provence is just the beginning.
  • Thailand : Lavish golden temples, hilly jungles, pristine beaches, and flavorful cuisine are what make visitors keep coming back to Thailand. This country is sure to make a Sagittarius’s jaw drop. Find everything you need to start planning your Thailand adventure here .

Capricorn: December 23-January 19

travel by zodiac sign

Capricorn being an earth sign, those born at this time are always looking for a hands-on way to travel and learn. That means lots of experiential activities, history museums, and walking tours for these earthy travelers. A Capricorn appreciates a packed schedule, with lots of intellectually stimulating activities and indulgent meals.

Here are some places that will certainly make a Capricorn happy:

  • Fairbanks, Alaska : Whether you decide to venture here in the winter or summer, you’ll find that there are plenty of exciting things to do in Fairbanks . Wintry activities include snowshoeing, snowmobiling, or checking out glacier caves. Summer means lots of time outdoors as well, so this is the place for nature-loving “Cappys.”
  • Berlin, Germany : I mean, this one is kind of a no-brainer. Capricorns tend to gravitate toward cities that have bustling plazas (for people-watching) and loads of museums. Makes sense that Berlin has to be included, right? Get inspired to check out Berlin here .
  • Austria : Along the same note, history-loving Capricorns should consider heading to Austria to feed their never-ending curiosity. The country is a bit more laid back, but still has plenty to do to keep that agenda filled. Start planning your trip to Austria here.

Aquarius: January 20-February 18

travel by zodiac sign

Aquarian energy is a bit far out, head-in-the-clouds, and wacky at times. It’s known as the strangest and most offbeat zodiac sign, so you can expect an Aquarius to look for a place where they can feel at home. A retreat at a remote mountain location or a faraway beach might be in the cards for an Aquarian traveler this year.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Sedona, Arizona : Sedona is a hub for all things mystical and spiritual, so it makes total sense that an Aquarius would feel right at home here. It’s also one of the many energy vortexes in the world , which is an exciting prospect for these born under this air sign. Read more about Sedona here .
  • Tulum, Mexico : While some might think this place is overrated, there are still plenty of neat things to in Tulum. From meditation retreats to yoga classes to cacao ceremonies, this is a sweet place for Aquarians to get their chakras aligned and chill at one of the most sought-after beaches in the world.
  • Ngapali Beach, Myanmar : This one is for those who want to go even further, to a place that their friends probably haven’t heard of. Ngapali Beach in Myanmar is a dreamy and peaceful destination fit for a relaxing getaway.

Pisces: February 19-March 20

lake tahoe emerald bay sunset

A fluid and sensitive Pisces absolutely needs to be near some body of water when traveling. Since they’re known to be super laid-back and easy-going, a Pisces is happy just making up the trip on the fly. They might even be happy just choosing one place and staying there, swinging in a hammock or floating on a raft all day, every day. They don’t take very well to super specific planning, so they need a destination that is as go-with-the-flow as they are.

If you’re a Pisces, consider traveling here this year:

  • Lake Tahoe, California & Nevada : Sparkling waters surrounded by mountain peaks are a Pisces’ dream. For those of you who love the great outdoors, this is a great place to camp for a weekend — or as long as you’d like. No big plans are needed to enjoy Lake Tahoe, but here are some great suggestions for summertime, when you can enjoy the water.
  • Maui, Hawai’i : What could possibly be better for a water-loving Pisces than one of the most beautiful islands on earth? Hanging out on the beach, taking a road trip along the Road to Hana , or doing an epic hike are all great choices for a Pisces. Get more Maui inspo here .
  • Palawan, Philippines : Not only is Palawan itself an absolute dream, but there are plenty of island-hopping opportunities that will allow a Pisces to live out their tropical fantasies. See what you can do in and around Palawan here.

Is my astrology nerdhood showing yet?

Now that you’ve gotten a taste of all the places that are destined to make anyone born under any sign happy, which place will you choose?

Your perfect travel partner based on your zodiac sign

Everyone has different travel styles. While some prefer to immerse themselves in local cultures, others opt for an all-expenses paid resort vacation. Someone you enjoy spending time with in your regular day-to-day life could be a complete mismatch when it comes to travel. Next time you’re considering someone as a possible travel companion, consult the stars to see how your zodiac signs affect compatibility.

A couple rows in a row boat on the river surrounded by cherry blossoms

As the first sign of the zodiac, Aries is an independent trailblazer who loves to break new ground. They might be the type to pack their itinerary full of activities to avoid FOMO later on.

Laidback Libra is Aries’ perfect travel match as they’re likely to let this fiery sign take the lead. If Aries’ bold approach fails to impress locals, amicable Libra will be there to keep the peace.

Symbolized by the bull, Taurus can be stubborn in their ideas and moves at their own pace. As an earth sign, they gravitate towards sensual pleasures, from exotic foods to sunbathing on a remote beach.

Cancer loves to take the comforts of home with them wherever they go, making them an ideal travel buddy for Taurus. Neither will need much convincing to take a day off from sight-seeing to lounge by the hotel pool.

A social butterfly and eternal student of life, Gemini has a tendency to bore easily. They should build flexibility into their travel itineraries so that they’re free to follow their ever-evolving moods.

Sagittarius is motivated by knowledge and adventure, so they won’t mind when Gemini changes plans last minute, as long as it involves a new experience. These two signs will love rehashing their favorite activities at the end of a jam-packed day.

Symbolized by the crab, Cancer can sometimes be a homebody. They’ll gravitate towards slow-paced destinations with friendly locals who make them feel welcome.

Virgo excels at taking the lead and will gladly handle the daily details that might overwhelm sensitive Cancer. Both of these signs appreciate self-care in different ways. Virgo will make sure Cancer is keeping healthy habits abroad, while Cancer will force Virgo to slow down and unwind.

Just like the lion that acts as this sign’s patronus, Leo has a way of making their presence known. Driven by their heart’s pursuits, Leo gravitates towards lively environments where their creativity can shine.

Aries is similarly independent and won’t be threatened by Leo’s tendency to steal the spotlight. It’s one of the few signs that can match Leo’s pace and will benefit from going off-route to follow Leo’s meandering curiosity.

It can be difficult to convince dedicated Virgo to take time off. This is a sign that is intentional about how they care for themselves, but also wants to help others live their best lives. Replenishing trips that involve humanitarian causes will prove attractive to this sign.

This makes Virgo well-matched with Gemini, an air sign that thrives on connection. Both signs are ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication, travel, and commerce, making them skilled multi-taskers and quick thinkers: two traits that will serve their journey well.

The Venus-ruled sign of Libra is inspired by beauty, artistic pursuits, and harmonious living. They’ll have no trouble making friends during their travels and will appreciate destinations that showcase the world’s natural wonders.

Imaginative Pisces shares similar qualities and will be happy to join Libra in search of utopia. Both of these signs take a relaxed approach to decision-making and won’t mind making plans on the fly.

Perhaps the most mysterious sign of the zodiac, Scorpio is motivated to get to the heart of a matter, as uncomfortable as that might be. They’ll be drawn to trips that help them uncover hidden histories to better understand their place in the world.

Capricorn also prefers depth over the superficial. Hard work doesn’t intimidate these signs, and they’ll be happy to hike, climb, or rappel alongside each other if it means scaling a new peak.

Sagittarius

Symbolized by the archer, Sagittarius always has their eye on the next adventure. This ambitious fire sign is motivated by new experiences and will happily go off-course in pursuit of the unknown.

Aquarius is similarly unpredictable and thrives on intellectual challenges. They’ll be happy to go along with Sagittarius’ hare-brained ideas and neither sign will be offended when the other wanders off on their own.

Strategic Capricorn never met a mountain they couldn’t climb, even if they had to employ unlikely methods to reach the top. Never one to back away from a challenge, Capricorn sometimes has to be reminded that it’s okay to relax.

That makes lackadaisical Taurus the perfect companion to balance out Capricorn’s strident nature. Once Capricorn sets aside some much-needed time for unwinding, they’ll be motivated to become the laziest bum on the beach.

Aquarius is an unconventional air sign that doesn’t mind standing out. They see value in our differences and are motivated to unveil common threads that help us better relate to one another. They’ll prefer excursions that introduce them to alternative lifestyles and inspire change in their daily lives.

Scorpio will appreciate Aquarius’ inquisitive nature and have plenty of ideas for how to make their trip one-of-a-kind. They’ll challenge each other to release inhibitions and venture outside their comfort zones.

As the last sign of the zodiac, Pisces carries the wisdom of all the signs that come before it. That doesn’t mean that Pisces is more evolved than the rest of the signs, just more able to empathize with each one’s unique struggles. This intuitive water sign will favor cooperative communities with plenty of art and beauty to explore.

While Leo might be more extroverted than Pisces, both signs thrive in social settings. Pisces will help Leo slow down to form authentic connections and Leo will encourage pliable Pisces to break away from the flow to follow their own stream.

Who you should travel with, based on your star sign

By Isabelle Kliger

Milky Way Stars at the Grand Canyon of Thailand

How do you find someone you get along with, who shares your interests and idea of what constitutes a great holiday? Have you ever looked to your star sign ? Picking the right travel buddy can be a tricky business – but astrologer and avid traveller Susan Miller says the answers to many of these questions could lie here.

If that name sounds familiar, it's because the founder of AstrologyZone is the favoured astrologer of millions around the world; her horoscopes are read online by 11 million people each month. “I’m privileged to get to meet so many people around the world and hear their personal stories,” she says. But travel hasn't always been a part of Miller's life: having suffered from a debilitating, painful congenital condition for much of her childhood, she says she felt as though life began at 20. “I was desperate to see the world,” she says. “I travelled wherever I could and have continued to do so as part of my work."

So who should you bring along with you on your next trip? We asked her to weigh in on the best travel buddy for every star sign.

March 21 – April 19 You’re a born leader, a pioneer, and a discoverer, which means you like being active on holiday, and can often be found exploring a new city, hiking , or playing sports. Fiercely independent, you’re not a team player and are happiest spending quality time one-on-one. That’s why your ideal travel companion is a partner or close friend. As for zodiac compatibility, Aries and Leo are both high-energy, bold signs, and, while you’re more disposed to outdoor pursuits , Leo enjoys the finer things in life so, together, you’ll find a good balance.

April 20 – May 20 If you’re born under the sign of the bull, you’re very sensual and love pampering yourself. You relish the feel of the plush robes in the spa , the smell of lavish aromatherapy, and the pleasure of a massage. Plan a trip with plenty of luxury and not too much rushing around, like a relaxing, indulgent adult holiday at an exclusive resort with no kids or, failing that, an upscale hotel with babysitters. You’re well suited to travelling with Pisces, since Pisceans are very accommodating and happy to go with the flow.

The Great Pyramids of Giza Egypt

May 21 – June 20 A social butterfly, you love travelling, learning, and experiencing new things. Often restless at home, you’ll want vacations that help you forget your normal life for a while. Once at your destination, take public transport so you can strike up conversations with locals. Gemini is the sign of siblings, so plan a trip with your brothers or sisters – or book yourself on a group tour to make new friends. You also enjoy traveling with Sagittarius, since you’re both intellectual, philosophical, and energetic. Plus, Gemini’s air makes Sagittarius’ fire shine brighter.

June 21 – July 22 The sign of family and children, Cancer is often happiest at home – but that doesn’t mean you have to stay there. Since Cancers also enjoy a great relationship with their parents, plan an extended family vacation with the kids in tow. The crab does not like to move around too much; so try to slow down on your next trip, savouring home cooking in small restaurants and meeting locals. You’ll most enjoy a holiday with Virgo, a highly organised earth sign that will joyfully map out the details of the trip.

July 23 – August 22 Spot a red carpet and a Leo will not be far from it. A fire sign, you relish glamour and excitement, and prefer staying in the best hotels and booking tables at Michelin-starred restaurants . Since you love to experience upscale culture, snag tickets to the opera or ballet or join an exclusive private members’ clubs with locations around the world where you can meet like-minded people. You’ll enjoy traveling with one of these fabulous new friends who shares your expensive tastes. Gemini is a good match for Leo, since you’re both passionate about seeing the world and experiencing everything a new place has to offer.

Backpacker at Sekumpul waterfall in north Bali

August 23 – September 22 Always well-organised, you should start planning where to go and what to see months in advance of a trip. Since you value your time on the ground, do plenty of research and read reviews of restaurants and destinations to maximise your trip. You form strong relationships with people at work and would enjoy traveling with a coworker you trust. Be mindful that Virgos sometimes have delicate digestive systems, so order light, well-prepared dishes of top-quality fresh fish and vegetables. You travel well with Pisces since you both enjoy similar cultural pursuits.

September 23 – October 22 Represented by balance, Libra rules marriage – so prioritise trips with your partner if you’re in a relationship. If you’re single, odds are you’re searching for a partner and are ideally suited to singles’ vacations or cruises where you could meet someone new. Libra is the most social sign of the zodiac, which means everyone wants to get to know you, and you love nightlife , so you won’t be solo for long. Gemini makes a great travel buddy for you, since you’re both social, friendly air signs who are curious and energetic.

October 23 – November 21 As the sexiest, most passionate sign of the zodiac, Scorpios prefer travelling with a romantic partner. This sign is not one for superficial small talk or rushing about. You value your own space so, when travelling with a friend, be sure to book your own room and make private time for meditating, reading, and unwinding. You’ll almost always prefer to be somewhere close to water , and are happy staying in one place and getting to know it thoroughly – much like Cancer, which is why you two do well when travelling together.

Sagittarius

November 22 – December 21 You could drop a Sagittarius by parachute anywhere in the world and the archer will find its way around. Travel is not just something you enjoy, it is a basic need, and nothing makes you happier than being on a long-distance, preferably foreign, trip. You’re well-suited to solo travel , as you are so gregarious, so adventurous, that you’ll make friends anywhere. (You’ll love trips that offer freedom, big skies, and wide panoramas.) You’ll also enjoy travelling with fellow fire sign Aries, as you two share a desire for an active, energetic schedule.

December 22 – January 19 You prize the past and are best suited for trips to the Colosseum in Rome or Knossos in Crete . The most ambitious zodiac sign, getting ahead at work is never far from your mind. If a work trip or conference is on the horizon, there’s no doubt you should be the first to sign up. Capricorn’s ruler Saturn connects you with older people, making you more accommodating to your parents' needs and happy to travel with older parents or relatives – even your in-laws. You travel well with Virgo, since you both prefer a cultural vacation over a beach trip.

January 20 – February 18 Aquarius’ ruler Uranus is the planet of innovation and science and teaches you to question rules and regulations. Since you stay abreast of current events and are often troubled by the imbalances in the world, you may travel to help those who have been marginalised, or to address environmental concerns . (Aquarius is the humanitarian sign, after all.) You’ll love trips centred on astronomy and travel that expands your knowledge of space and the universe. (Start planning for the next solar eclipse.) Like Sagittarius, you might like to travel alone, or with fellow air sign Gemini, who would be eager to experience the same aspects of a trip.

February 19 – March 20 The most spiritual zodiac sign, you enjoy visiting churches and religious landmarks, not only for the spiritual experience but also to admire their historic beauty. You keep your own schedule on vacation, so don’t worry if following a tour guide doesn't fit your style. When travelling, you’ll be happier if you don’t have too much planned. Pisceans often enjoy a strong bond with their mothers, making you ideally suited to a mother-son or mother-daughter vacation. You get on with a Taurus, who shares your desire to take the time to appreciate the beauty of a destination’s culture and nature.

Here's Where You Should Travel This Spring, Based on Your Zodiac Sign

Let an astrologer pick your spring 2024 getaway.

Flowers are blooming and new beginnings are blossoming, inspiring everyone to get out and explore the world around them. Here in the northern hemisphere, this year’s spring equinox took place on March 19, wrapping up the winter and heralding in the rejuvenating vibes of springtime. The equinox also marked the date of the astrological new year, as it signifies the sun’s transition into the trailblazing sign of Aries, which is considered the first sign of the zodiac.

This cosmic freshness is enough to give anyone a travel bug, but the spring months also overlap with shoulder season in many places, making it an even more fabulous time to take advantage of better deals and smaller crowds as you bask in the magic of the new season. Just be aware that Mercury retrograde will be fogging up logistical matters from April 1–25, so it’s helpful to be extra detail-oriented if you make plans during those few weeks.

If you’re still trying to plan a magical spring break vacation, why not get some cosmic inspiration from the planets? Here are some of our favorite places to travel this spring, based on your zodiac sign .

Aries: Niagara Falls

April boasts a solar eclipse in your zodiac sign, and the gorgeous region of Niagara Falls is located within the eclipse’s path of totality — meaning this astronomical phenomenon will be fully visible with the naked eye on the afternoon of April 8. Whether or not you schedule your trip around this special solar eclipse viewing, Niagara Falls is still an ideal springtime destination. The region’s many parks and gardens come alive with the beauty of millions of blooming flowers, including vividly-colored tulips, enchanting lilac bushes, and beautiful yellow daffodils. (Niagara Falls is known as the daffodil capital of North America for a reason!)

Taurus: Milan

As a Taurus, you’re ruled by the planet Venus — cosmic ruler of art and beauty — so you’ll appreciate a visit to the cosmopolitan Italian city of Milan . The visually stunning Duomo di Milan, Italy’s largest cathedral, is a must-visit for any Taurean traveler. Get an up-close look at the ornate stonework on the facade of the building as you stroll the rooftop walkway, and take in a breathtaking view of the city from above while you’re at it. If you’re looking for a souvenir or two, the renowned Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping arcade shares the Duomo’s sizable piazza. If you’re into design, the city’s annual design festival, Salone del Mobile, takes place the week of April 16, and draws creatives from around the globe.

Gemini: London

Spring’s shoulder season in London is actually one of the best times to visit this bright and bustling city, and there is no shortage of exciting activities to keep your busy-bodied Gemini entertained during this time of year. If you go in April or May, when the weather starts heating up a bit, you’ll have a great time exploring the city outdoors. Events like the Eid Festival in Trafalgar Square or the walking tours and programs at Shakespeare’s Globe Theater to celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday are fun ways to enjoy the area’s culture and history. If you need more stimulation, Brixton Village Market won’t disappoint, as it boasts a vivid and virtually endless array of cuisines and shopping options that’ll satisfy any craving.

Cancer: Adirondack Mountains, New York

As a water sign, you’ll appreciate the healing serenity of the Adirondack Mountain region’s waterfalls and other natural wonders during the spring season. From early April to late May, you’ll avoid the summer and fall tourist crowds (as well as the pesky insects!) while being able to fully enjoy the sights and sounds — because as the wintry ice begins to melt under the springtime sun, the waterfalls are replenished, giving you a more powerful aquatic show than any other time of year. Most of the falls around the Lake Champlain Region are accessible during spring, but check out High Falls Gorge (which is just 10 miles from Lake Placid ) and OK Slip Falls for some guaranteed breathtaking views.

Leo: Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands

As a summer baby ruled by the sun itself in astrology, you need some warm weather, stat — and thankfully, the beautiful island of Virgin Gorda is perhaps best enjoyed during the spring months. Packed with pristinely gorgeous beaches, lush national parks, and plenty of luxurious accommodations, the third-largest of the British Virgin Islands offers everything a fun-loving Leo like you could desire in a free-spirited spring break. Outdoor activities like snorkeling, boating, or swimming through the island's crystal-blue waves are popular. And if you’re into hiking, check out the unique beauty of Devil’s Bay National Park or Gorda Peak, which offers some of the island’s most breathtaking views.

Virgo: Tbilisi, Georgia

As a detail-oriented Virgo, it can be hard to fully relax, which is why a chill vacation in Tbilisi, Georgia will make for a spring break well spent. Georgia is located in Europe at the border of Asia, nestled between the Caucasus Mountains and the Black Sea. This colorful tree-lined capital city is the perfect place to slow down, enjoy long walks through picturesque neighborhoods, and indulge in the vibrant local food and wine scene. May is a wonderful month to visit, as it boasts a popular two-day natural wine festival called Zero Compromise and the New Wine Festival, which is packed with local vintners from around the nation. The weather will be warm enough to enjoy the peaceful vibe of the city’s outdoor cafes and the art nouveau-style architecture, allowing you to soak in the city’s unique vibe and beauty.

Libra: St. Lucia

As a beauty-loving Libra, you’ll appreciate the delectable sights of the stunning Caribbean island of St. Lucia . May is the island’s shoulder season, boasting pleasantly dry weather and moderately warm temperatures without too many crowded beaches. If you’re feeling adventurous, try ziplining through lush forests or hiking through the volcanic Piton mountains, which are recognized as a World Heritage Site. If you’re looking for culture, the St. Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival from April 30 through May 12 features international musical acts spanning all different genres. And if you’re feeling indecisive about where to stay, this list of St. Lucia’s best all-inclusive resorts can help you pick.

Scorpio: Palm Springs, California

While this quirky desert town gets sweltering in the summer, spring is the perfect time to visit to enjoy the magic of the Coachella Valley’s natural landscape and get some not-too-intense sunshine in Palm Springs . While the moderate temperatures make this a popular travel time, you’ll enjoy the hustle and bustle of it all, and there’s plenty to see downtown — including an array of trendy mid-century modern style restaurants, curated vintage shops, and the incredible Palm Springs Art Museum Architecture and Design Center. If you’d like to make the most of the sunshine, there are loads of places to hike in Palm Springs proper, as well as in the neighboring Agua Caliente Indian Reservation and Mt. San Jacinto State Park.

Sagittarius: Mexico City

Fiery Sagittarians like you crave excitement and mental stimulation, which is why planning a trip to Mexico City during the springtime months is such a fabulous idea. Historic neighborhoods swirl together with new and trendy establishments to create a culturally rich experience that’ll keep you entertained for the duration of your stay. Your days will be packed as you make the most of the natural beauty of the region (including the springtime bloom of purple jacarandas), partake in the delicious array of hip local dining spots, and enjoy the vibrant art scene — including the Casa Azul museum which served as artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera’s home and is packed with artifacts that highlight the artist’s professional works as well as their personal lives.

Capricorn: Phoenix

As quintessential winter babies, most Capricorns need a little extra dose of sunshine around this time of year to get them revved up for spring. That’s why the sunny city of Phoenix is such a perfect place to spend your spring break. Nicknamed “The Valley of the Sun,” this area provides perfect poolside and outdoorsy temperatures in spring, usually reaching between the high 70s and low 80s. Make the most of the outdoors with camping, kayaking, and paddleboarding in the Salt River to cool down. Or keep things chill and take advantage of some of the city’s luxurious five-star resorts. Plus, with Scottsdale, Mesa, and Tempe all within a short driving distance, Phoenix is also well-suited for road trips — so you can explore even more of this gorgeous corner of the Sonoran Desert

Aquarius: Reykjavik, Iceland

Aquarians love exploring the most unique places, which is why a springtime trip to Reykjavík, Iceland is the perfect choice. In addition to the city’s vibrant scene and one-of-a-kind natural landscape, you’ll also have a chance to see the magic of the Northern Lights. Thanks to the magnetic field activity from the sun, the spring equinox can be a fabulous time of year to see some of the strongest and brightest displays of this phenomenon — especially if you ditch the light pollution of the city and make the short trip to Thingvellir National Park . Whether or not the stars align for an Aurora Borealis sighting, you can always take a geothermal dip at the world-famous Blue Lagoon .

Pisces: Park City, Utah

Spiritual and sensitive Pisces often feel deeply connected to the shifting seasons, so you’ll appreciate the visible transition from winter to spring taking place in the idyllic mountains of Park City, Utah . The region is known for its winter skiing, but you can generally still enjoy late-season snow sports at Park City Mountain and Deer Valley during the spring months. But with the weather warming up, it’s also usually pleasant enough to enjoy scenic hikes or laid-back strolls through the historic and artsy downtown area. The food scene is also delightful, with plenty of high-end options and casual fare alike — including the world’s only ski-in gastrodistillery.

The Personality of a Libra, Explained

By Aliza Kelly

Designed photo of Mae West

After you're done reading up on this zodiac sign's unique personality traits, catch up on this month's Libra horoscope . For a fuller look at your year, check out our astrologer's 2024 Libra horoscope predictions .

Libra is an air sign represented by the scales (interestingly, the only inanimate object of the zodiac), an association that reflects Libra's fixation on balance and harmony. Libra is obsessed with symmetry and strives to create equilibrium in all areas of life. These air signs are the aesthetes of the zodiac: Ruled by Venus, the planet that governs love, beauty, and money, Libras adore high art, intellectualism, and connoisseurship. Suave Libras need to surround themselves with stunning objects and create environments that reflect their exquisite tastes. Accordingly, these air signs make excellent designers, decorators, art critics, and stylists.

While Libra's opposite sign, Aries, represents "me," Libra symbolizes "we." Relationships are paramount for Libras, who find balance in companionship. They love harmonious partnerships with fashionable mates, especially those who make attractive arm candy. (Libra governs the skin, and these air signs are highly motivated by physical appearance. There's no better way for a Libra to relax than with a luxurious face mask .)

Libras, when they are regularly coupled, must be careful about seeking attention outside the agreed-upon boundaries of their relationship. Since they try to keep everyone happy and engaged, they may find themselves tempted to push the limits of their agreements with their partners. People-pleasing Libras must remember that the happiness of their loved ones and the health of their relationships is more important than maintaining the attention of distant admirers.

Libra is a cardinal sign, which means Libras are accordingly great at launching new initiatives. However, because Libras consider multiple perspectives in all pursuits, these air signs struggle with indecision. Instead of constantly seeking outside perspectives, Libras would do well to develop (and trust) their own intuition. Their characteristic ambivalence aside, Libras can navigate virtually any social situation, effortlessly resolving conflicts by simply turning on the charm.

It’s the first Mercury retrograde of 2K24 , my babies. ‘Tis the most maligned time of the year, folks, when the planet of communication slows its proverbial roll and wreaks havoc on our travel plans and best efforts at clear communication.

Mercury retrograde is a bit of a misnomer — the planet only appears to move backward from our vantage here on Earth. In truth, Mercury slows down three to four times a year, interrupting and upsetting the realms it naturally governs — expression, cognition, currency, technology, and journeys.

The fastest-moving planet in our solar system, Mercury is named for the emissary of the gods, a psychopomp whose range reached from the ambrosia-drunk, toga-tied heights of Mount Olympus to the doom and gloom of the underworld.

In addition to being the god of messaging, Mercury is also the patron saint of thieves and tricksters, and apropos of this, when the planet slows down, it likes to play tricks and steal our sense of stability, catering to chaos like Charlie Sheen in 2K11 .

Relationships are challenging at any point in time, but Mercury’s deceleration makes even the simplest exchanges feel hazardous, which serves to explain why more than 1 in 3 people cease dating all together during the perilous weeks that Mercury backstrokes.

Anastasiya Pochotna, of the dating app Flirtini, tells The Post, “Around half of all couples have experienced communication struggles, or argued and fought during Mercury retrograde, while 25% of people have been dumped. It’s no wonder most fear that 70% of people genuinely believe Mercury’s spin has a negative impact on their relationship. We’re all simply waiting for the worst, and all that stress and anxiety inevitably drives a wedge between us and our partners.”

Yet, if you’re a bold b—h, a die-hard romantic, a true believer or a defier of stars, here are some tips and tricks to make the most of dating during the first retrograde of 2024, which runs from April 1 to April 25, courtesy of Pochotna and fellow dating expert Anna Hintsyak, of the Pure app.

Dos and don’ts of dating during Mercury retrograde

Love, diversity and kiss, lesbian couple on studio background in happy lgbt relationship together. Lgbtq romance, pride and black woman kissing partner on backdrop, happiness with gen z women on date.

Give your partner the benefit of the doubt

Pochotna tells The Post, “Miscommunication is certain, so don’t take anything said in the heat of an argument at face value. Even if they hit a nerve, just let it slide.” Give everyone — yourself included — the grace of quick forgiveness during this retrograde.

Clarity is compassion

It’s easy to react rather than respond when tempers flare. Words are hurled, and Mercury is being a slow poke. Pochotna advises people to pause before they pounce, “Before you jump down their throat, ask what they really meant. There’s every chance you misunderstood, so try not to overreact.”

To clarify during conversation, consider phrasing your question as, “Let me see if I understand what you’re saying. You’re telling me X. Is that right?” Sounds so much more constructive than “go f–k yourself,” doesn’t it?

Practice active listening

Pochotna tells The Post, “When your partner speaks, give them your full attention. If you’re constantly interrupting or only half listening, you’re asking for trouble.”

Vital tips for being a better listener during Mercury retrograde and beyond include maintaining eye contact, eliminating distractions, and leading with curiosity.

Let your partner finish their thought and ask questions rather than automatically offering a response/defense. Examples include: “What is most upsetting to you about this situation?,” “Can you tell me more about that?,” and perhaps most importantly, “What do you need in this moment?”

Choose your words carefully

Pochotna recommends, “Don’t say what you’re thinking and hope it’s well received. It won’t be. Choose your words wisely and try to be empathetic… even if you’re not really feeling it.”

Before you speak, heed the poet Mary Ann Pietzker , who implores, “Is It True? Is It Necessary? Is It Kind?” If the answer is no to one or all, consider swallowing, rather than spewing your words.

Be mindful of your body language

Dark-skinned man standing next to his offended wife with Afro haircut and crossed arms, man looking guilty, pointing finger at him, asking what he did wrong, trying to understand what happened to her

Pochotna maintains, “Non-verbal actions, such as facial expressions, speak a thousand words, so best save the eye rolls for when you’re out of sight.”

In addition to curbing the eye rolls and other obvious signs of ire, resist the urge to cross your arms across your chest, as it communicates resistance to opening up.

If possible, take a walk with your partner when difficult conversations are at hand. Striding side by side builds camaraderie, and the act of moving towards a destination together might just translate into a stronger sense of being on the same team.

Engage in pre-pillow talk

Since sex is a form of communication, bedroom mishaps, misfires, and disappointments are a common symptom of Mercury retrograde. Hintsyak explains to The Post, “If you can’t communicate, your sex life is going to suffer. My advice? Take the time to talk through your desires, boundaries, and expectations before you get busy. If you understand each other’s needs, you’ll enjoy a more satisfying sexual connection no matter which way Mercury is spinning.”

Give your chest a rest before you talk

couple crisis

Pochotna tells The Post, “If things get heated, step back. Arguing won’t get you anywhere, so schedule a time to talk it out once you’re both calm.”

While scheduling an argument may feel arduous, allowing cooler heads and a hard edit of your talking points is key during this transit.

Taking the time to put in writing what you want to convey will ensure that you express yourself calmly and completely. I also highly recommend preparing for a healthy discourse with a fibrous snack and a few cycles of deep breathing.

Take a tech break/commit to digital detox

“It’s so much easier to take things too far over text when we can’t see our partner’s reaction. If a discussion can’t wait, at least do it face-to-face,” Pochotna tells The Post.

The benefits of face-to-face communication cannot be overstated, especially during a retrograde cycle when misunderstandings are at an all-time high. Communicating in person shows a partner or potential partner that you value them and the relationship.

Being physically present also allows you to read body language and appropriately gauge emotional responses.

The silver lining of this backspin

Portrait of happy gay couple spending time together and hugging in the street. Lgbt and love concept.

Hintsyak maintains that mindfulness rather than abstinence is the name of the game during Mercury retrograde. She tells The Post, “Rather than putting your dating life on hold during Mercury retrograde, you just need to be more mindful — especially when it comes to sex. Take time to communicate, be honest, and address any issues as they arise. It will help you through the hard times and it’s great practice for when things get back to normal too. Being attentive to your partner and proactive in addressing issues will keep your relationship happy and sex life healthy all year round.”

Express, don’t repress! Wishing you all clarity, communion, compassion and the glorious outlet of sexual healing this retrograde season.
