METRO GRAPHICS m25 map junctions 10 and 11 closed

Drivers are in for ‘misery’ this weekend as a chunk of the M25 is set to close both ways.

National Highways has urged motorists to ‘travel only if necessary’ when the agency shuts the motorway between junctions 10 (A3 Wisley) and 11 (A320 Chertsey Interchange) and 11 in Surrey.

The five-mile stretch of carriageway will be closed from 9pm on Friday to 6am next Monday (March 18).

Some 200,000 vehicles are set to be affected, including concertgoers, sports fans and holidaymakers travelling in and out of London .

The M25 is always a go-to route to travel to and from Heathrow and Gatwick Airports as well as the Channel Ports.

From 10am until 9pm between junctions 9 and 11, the M25 carries between 4,000 and 6,000 vehicles in each direction every hour.

Engineers are set to demolish the Clearmount Bridleway bridge and install a large gantry.

The weekend works are part of a £317,000,000 project to ‘reduce congestion, improve safety and create more reliable journeys’ by restoring heathland and upgrading the junction with the A3 Winsley Interchange, highway officials say .

For those with places to be this weekend, however, National Highways says local diversion routes will be in place.

For junctions 10 and 11: ‘Northbound A3 to Painshill Junction, A245 towards Woking, and then A320 to M25 Junction 11.’

While another alternative route for between junctions 11 and 10: ‘A320 south towards Woking, A245 towards Byfleet and Painshill junction, Southbound A3 to Junction 10.

‘Taking the M25 in the other direction to avoid our closure is also an option.

‘Either way, if you do travel, please leave a lot of extra time for your journey.’

Four more closures will take place up to September when the works are set to be completed.

Highway officials have not revealed when these will happen though the next is expected to be April.

Project lead Jonathan Wade said: ‘Drivers should only use the M25 if their journey is absolutely necessary.

‘This is the first of five full closures of one of the busiest junctions on our road network.

‘We have spent months planning for these closures and making sure there are diversion routes in place, but there will still be heavy congestion and delays.

‘These improvements will bring long-term benefits to drivers who pass through this stretch of the M25, not to mention pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders who will also see positive changes in the area.’

Steve Gooding, director of motoring research charity the RAC Foundation, added: ‘For drivers who’ve already had their patience tried by the queues at the junction 10 works, the phrase ‘you ain’t seen nothing yet’ springs to mind.

‘National Highways’ plea for people to avoid driving in the area applies not just to trips on the M25 but also to those on surrounding local roads onto which the M25 traffic will be diverted.

‘The hope must be that drivers take great care, however frustrating the delays and disruption might be.

‘The last thing we need is shunts or crashes, however minor, because the slightest mishap will compound the misery.’

First planned M25 daytime closure to cause long delays

Drivers are being warned of long delays during the first planned daytime closure of a stretch of the UK’s busiest motorway.

National Highways urged motorists to “only travel if necessary” when it shuts the M25 in both directions between junctions 10 and 11 in Surrey as part of a £317 million improvement project.

The five-mile stretch of carriageway will be closed from 9pm on Friday March 15 until 6am on Monday March 18.

More than 200,000 vehicles are expected to be affected, including many travelling in and out of London , and to and from Heathrow and Gatwick Airports and Channel ports.

Between junctions 9 and 11 the M25 normally carries between 4,000 and 6,000 vehicles in each direction per hour from 10am until 9pm at weekends.

This is the first of five full closures

Jonathan Wade, National Highways

This is the first scheduled daytime all-lanes shutdown on the M25 since it opened in 1986, National Highways said.

The Government-owned company said the action is necessary to enable a bridge to be demolished and a new gantry to be installed.

Four more closures will take place up to September.

No dates have been released for when they will happen, but the next is expected to take place in April.

The project will increase the number of lanes and make it easier to enter and exit the M25 at junction 10, which is one of the UK’s busiest and most dangerous motorway junctions.

M25 to close during daytime for the first time in its history

A stretch of the M25 is set to close for an entire weekend for the first time in its 38-year history .

Drivers are being warned of long delays during the first planned daytime closure of a stretch of the UK’s busiest motorway.

National Highways urged motorists to “only travel if necessary” when it shuts the M25 in both directions between junctions 10 and 11 in Surrey later this month.

The five-mile stretch will be closed from 9pm on Friday March 15 until 6am on Monday March 18.

Motorists will be forced to detour more than 10 miles around northern Surrey while a footbridge over the motorway is demolished and a new gantry is installed.

Traffic will be diverted via Cobham, Byfleet, West Byfleet and Sheerwater before rejoining the motorway at Chertsey, just south of the Heathrow Airport stretch .

The works form part of a £317 million improvement project, with National Highways warning that more closures are likely to follow later this year.

National Highways project lead Jonathan Wade said: “Drivers should only use the M25 if their journey is absolutely necessary.

“This is the first of five full closures of one of the busiest junctions on our road network.

“We have spent months planning for these closures and making sure there are diversion routes in place, but there will still be heavy congestion and delays.

“These improvements will bring long-term benefits to drivers who pass through this stretch of the M25 , not to mention pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders who will also see positive changes in the area.”

A three-year, £317 million project will increase the number of lanes on the M25 around junction 10 and make it easier to enter and exit at the interchange, which is one of the UK’s busiest and most dangerous motorway junctions.

A six-vehicle smash in January caused 16-mile tailbacks after a lorry, a van and four cars were involved in an accident between junctions 10 and 11. Drivers were reportedly queueing for up to an hour to pass the accident area.

The junction 10 project began in 2022 and is expected to last three years.

‘Delays? You ain’t seen nothing yet’

Four more closures will take place up to September. No dates have been released for when they will happen, but the next is expected to take place in April.

Steve Gooding, director of motoring research charity the RAC Foundation, said: “For drivers who’ve already had their patience tried by the queues at the junction 10 works, the phrase ‘you ain’t seen nothing yet’ springs to mind.

“National Highways’ plea for people to avoid driving in the area applies not just to trips on the M25 but also to those on surrounding local roads onto which the M25 traffic will be diverted.

“The hope must be that drivers take great care, however frustrating the delays and disruption might be.

“The last thing we need is shunts or crashes, however minor, because the slightest mishap will compound the misery.”

More than half a million vehicles are expected to be affected, including many travelling in and out of London, and to and from Heathrow and Gatwick airports .

On average around 270,000 vehicles use junction 10 of the M25 every day, National Highways said, with the motorway carrying between 4,000 and 6,000 vehicles per hour between junctions 9 and 11.

This is the first scheduled daytime all-lanes shutdown on the M25 since it opened in 1986, the state-owned company said.

Why m25 was not clear from the snow last night, and why there were not enough plow trucks on the road to make it safe for drivers? Who is responsible for it? What are the excuses this year? Please do not blame the snow because we all knew it is coming.

Can you confirm a diversion for M25 on dates 7/10/2021 and 8/10/2021 we have been lead to beleive Fedex drivers had followed a diversion which took them through a redroutes zone. A12 Eastern Avenue & A406.

Traffic at a standstill few miles out of dart Ford tunnel heading north towards M11. Not good.

Again they have the audacity to charge me £2.50 for sitting in ever lengthening queues of traffic at the Dartford CrossingIt should be free if the company making a fortune out of drivers cannot keep the congestion down to a reasonable few minutes

Hi. Can you tell me please how I can find something about the traffic on M25 and M23 on the 28th June 2019? Thank you

The M25 is the largest ring road (motorway) in the UK. It was originally proposed in the 1958 Buchanan Report on Motorway Development and the first section opened in 1975. It was completed in 1986 and it encircles London, connecting a number of major cities and airports, including London-Heathrow and Gatwick.

Since its opening, the M25 has been plagued by traffic congestion and accidents. In 1997, a section of the M25 was nicknamed "Britain's busiest stretch of road" due to the level of congestion and the number of accidents. As of October 2020, the M25 has seen over 1,860 serious accidents and 47 fatalities in the past five years. Despite these figures, the Department for Transport report that the M25 has seen an overall decrease in fatal and serious collisions since 2005.

Drivers are being warned of traffic issues on the M25 which will see the key motorway closes to make improvements to the vital route.

The M25 will be closed for a full weekend for the first time ever as National Highways warns drivers to plan their journeys more carefully.

The changes aim to make journeys safer and reduce pollution on roads across the vital stretch of motorway.

Motorists are being warned that the M25 will be shut between junctions 10 (A3 Wisley) and 11 (A320 Chertsey Interchange) from 9pm on Friday, March 15, to 6am on Monday, March 18, 2024.

National Highways are warning drivers of long delays

The stretch of the motorway will be closed to demolish the Clearmount bridleway bridge and install a "very large" gantry.

This will be the first of five closures between now and September 2024, with National Highways warning of “long delays and to only travel if necessary”.

The junction 10 improvement scheme will see an increase in the number of lanes to improve traffic flow and make it easier and safer to enter and exit the M25.

National Highways said that without a full closure to the motorway, it would be impossible to safely demolish the bridges and install the new gantry.

The carriageway between junctions 9 and 11 carries between 4,000 and 6,000 vehicles per hour in each direction between 10am and 9pm on a weekend.

Warnings have been issued for people going to concerts, sporting events and on holiday if they are travelling to London and the surrounding areas.

Drivers heading to Gatwick and Heathrow airports, as well as Channel ports, may be massively affected by the changes.

Jonathan Wade, National Highways Project Lead, said: “Drivers should only use the M25 if their journey is absolutely necessary.

“This is the first of five full closures of one of the busiest junctions on our road network.

“We have spent months planning for these closures and making sure there are diversion routes in place, but there will still be heavy congestion and delays.

“These improvements will bring long-term benefits to drivers who pass through this stretch of the M25, not to mention pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders who will also see positive changes in the area.”

National Highways has urged drivers to plan their journeys well in advance and make sure they allow extra time or make alternative travel arrangements.

Five total closures are planned for the M25

The next full closure of the M25 is expected to take place in April to allow for the installation of the new Clearmount bridleway bridge, although dates are subject to change.

Once the scheme is delivered, the new roads and bridges should be open to traffic in the summer of 2025, with National Highways managing closures to avoid causing maximum disruption during the holidays.

Maryland Weather: Patchy fog tonight, rain returns Wednesday

By Steven Sosna, Derek Beasley

Updated on: March 5, 2024 / 11:27 PM EST / CBS Baltimore

BALTIMORE--   Areas of dense fog are possible tonight with rain returning Wednesday and continuing into Wednesday night.

The rain from earlier today has exited to our north and east. In the wake of this morning's wet weather, we're still dealing with plenty of leftover clouds. We'll see some partial clearing as we head toward the evening hours. Temperatures will stay in the 50s for most of the evening with a mostly cloudy sky.

We will see areas of fog developing late tonight into early Wednesday morning. Some places will see visibility drop below 0.50 miles. Please use low beams with your headlights and reduce speeds on the highway if you'll be out and about. The fog doesn't look to develop until late tonight and early tomorrow morning, so road conditions this evening should be fine.

TONIGHT WEATHER: We are looking at patchy areas of dense fog developing overnight tonight into early Wednesday morning. Low temperatures will drop into the middle to upper 40s. Please drive with extra caution late tonight into early Wednesday. @WJZ pic.twitter.com/E3IPE6GHTm — Steven Sosna (@SteveSosnaWX) March 5, 2024

Rain returns to our area Wednesday. We'll see on and off rain throughout the day beginning Wednesday morning and continuing into Wednesday night. We'll see a number of hours with rain, but the rain intensity isn't expected to be too heavy, so this should limit any problems with potential flooding.

RAINY WEDNESDAY, BUT NO MAJOR PROBLEMS: We're expecting anywhere between 0.50" to 1" of rain Wednesday into Wednesday night, this amount of rain shouldn't cause any huge problems. If you're traveling N & E toward coastal NJ, NYC, & New England, flooding will be a problem. @WJZ pic.twitter.com/KMxpFLfM4M — Steven Sosna (@SteveSosnaWX) March 5, 2024

If you're going to be out and about Wednesday, give yourself some extra travel time as road conditions may be slower than normal with wet pavement. You will also need your umbrella, especially during the mid to late morning through the nighttime hours, before tapering off early Thursday morning.

WEDNESDAY WEATHER ACROSS MARYLAND: We may start off the day with areas of dense fog, but rain will become the big story Wednesday. We'll see periods of rain mid to late morning through the evening hours. Have an umbrella with you! @WJZ pic.twitter.com/yU9nEZPVD8 — Steven Sosna (@SteveSosnaWX) March 5, 2024

We are in a pipeline of storms that are bringing wet weather to the region. After the rain Wednesday into early Thursday morning, we'll see a brief break in the rain Friday before more rain returns to the area Saturday into Saturday night. Saturday's storm system should leave Saturday night allowing for a drier weather Sunday. Plan on an indoor Saturday with the soggy weather.

RAIN RISK NEXT 6 DAYS: Our highest chances of rain over the next 6 days will take place Wednesday into Wednesday night. Any early showers quickly taper off Thursday. We'll see another round of rain likely Saturday. That should end in time so that we see a decent Sunday. @WJZ pic.twitter.com/F6J2EzDTdI — Steven Sosna (@SteveSosnaWX) March 5, 2024

Gusty winds, dry weather, and sunshine return to the region Sunday into Monday. High temperatures rebound into the middle 50s Sunday and Monday. By Tuesday we should see high temperatures should leap into the lower 60s with breezy and bright weather continuing.

Don't forget that we spring forward by one hour Saturday night into Sunday as we switch to daylight saving time. Our sunrise time Sunday is 7:24 AM, but the sunset time will be 7:08 PM.

M23 Crash: Six in hospital and more than 30 injured in multi-vehicle collision

  • Saturday 2 March 2024 at 11:14am

ITV News Meridian's Harry Acton has the latest.

Emergency services have dealt with multi-vehicle collision on the M23 in Sussex.

The road was closed in both directions between junctions 10 and 11 for Pease Pottage after more than 15 vehicles collided on the carriageway shortly before 6pm on Friday 1 March.

ITV Meridian understands a triage centre was set up to deal with the number of people injured in the crash.

The M23 has now reopened.

An eyewitness on the ground told ITV that they counted 24 vehicles that were damaged following the crash. They were told 40 people were currently receiving medical treatment from paramedics. Nobody is thought to have been killed, they said.

South East Coast Ambulance, Sussex Police and West Sussex Fire and Rescue were all in attendance.

The ambulance service confirmed it had taken six people to hospital and treated approximately 30 more at the scene.

Video shared with ITV Meridian shows a large emergency response on the M23.

On Friday, a spokesperson for Sussex Police told ITV Meridian there are multiple casualties being treated by the ambulance service.

They said: “We have closed the M23 in both directions between Junctions 10 and 11 following a serious collision this evening.

“Emergency services were called at around 5.40pm to a collision involving around 15 vehicles. The ambulance service is assessing and treating multiple casualties.

“We are asking the public to avoid the area at this time and to expect significant disruption. Thank you for your patience while this is ongoing.”

Roger Williams, who drove down the M23 when the incident happened, said it was the worst pileup he had seen in 62 years.

“Has to be 30+ vehicles smashed”, he said. “There’s vans on their sides, a minibus upside down. There has to be 30+ vehicles. I counted 5 facing wrong way after spinning but the whole carriageway covered in debris.

“There was a hail storm. The carriageway was covered in 2 inches of ice and people were speeding through it.”

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire and Rescue said: "We are currently in attendance at an RTC involving multiple vehicles between Junctions 10 and 11 of the M23 at Pease Pottage. Please avoid the area."

A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance service said: "We remain at the scene of a multi-vehicle RTC on the M23 between junction 10 and 11. We are assessing and treating multiple casualties and urge people to avoid the area."

Celtics vs. Cavs: Predictions, picks, odds for Tuesday's NBA game

travel on m25 tonight

The Boston Celtics will face off against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night, hoping to extend their winning streak.

The Boston Celtics are leading the Eastern Conference standings with a 48-12 record and are riding an 11-game win streak. They kept their streak alive after a 140-88 dominant victory against the Golden State Warriors, marking their third-largest margin of victory in franchise history.

Jayson Tatum celebrated his 26 th birthday with 27 points and Jaylen Brown lead the Celtics to victory with 29 points in the franchise-record game.

On the other hand, The Cleveland Cavaliers , currently in third place in the Eastern Conference , are coming off a 107-98 loss to the New York Knicks. Sam Merrill had 21 points, three rebounds, and two assists for the Cavs, but it wasn’t enough to edge past the Knicks.

Cleveland is also struggling with injuries and will be without Ty Jerome, Donovan Mitchell, and Caris LeVert against the Celtics.

Boston Celtics vs. Cleveland Cavaliers predictions

Espn : celtics have a 73% chance to win.

According to ESPN's Matchup Predictor, the Boston Celtics have a 73.1% chance of beating the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night.

BetMGM : Celtics will win

Staff writes: "The winning team model predicts the Celtics will win Tuesday‘s game with 79.8% confidence, factoring in game simulations, player injuries, key player performances and recent matchups for both Celtics and Cavaliers."

Sporting News : Celtics 117, Cavaliers 106

Sloan Piva writes: "Cleveland is typically pretty good at defending the three and cleaning up the glass — and this unit always plays Boston tough — so we like Bickerstaff's squad to at least keep this a relatively decent ballgame until the final frame. Look for the Cavs to hold the C's to under 118 for the 10th time in 12 meetings, but wind up narrowly missing the cover for the ninth time in 10 games."

Boston Celtics vs. Cleveland Cavaliers betting odds, lines

The Boston Celtics are favored to defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to the  BetMGM odds .
