Truffle Hunt and Pizza

The aroma of freshly baked wood-fired pizza is usually enough to get most people reaching for a slice – maybe debating pineapple as a topping.

We like to think of our home-made pizza as a delicious finale to hunting truffles and detecting their aromas as they are taken from the ground.

For pizza lovers & truffle aficionados alike, our pizzas made with freshly shaved Red Hill Truffles are a surprising treat, that tell the relatively new story of truffle farming on the Mornington Peninsula.

Fresh truffles are available to impress on your next pizza night when you can mention hunting for this very special topping.

MP Experience

Ever wondered what it would be like to be treated like a superstar or how it would feel to get the royal treatment for a day we’ve used a little poetic license and made slight changes to – steppenwolf’s song – magic carpet ride to best describe the feeling one gets when you spend a day with danielle and max from mp experience..

‘Close your eyes, welcome to the magic carpet ride. I like to dream yes, yes, right between my sound machine. On a cloud of sound I drift in the night, any place it goes is right. Goes far, flies near, to the stars away from here. Well, you don’t know what we can find, why don’t you come with me, on a magic carpet ride.’

MP Experience was founded in 2012 by brother and sister team Max and Danielle – two siblings who were born and raised on the Pen.  Their ongoing mission has been to translate their passion for the Pen into a vehicle for connecting with people, and inspiring them through the beauty of this incredible part of the world.

Max owns the award winning Max’s Restaurant at Red Hill Estate and Danielle has years of experience in winery touring. Together, they have extensive knowledge of the area, the culture and the people that make the Peninsula what it is today.

The name “MP Experience” grew out of lets give people an experience on the Mornington Peninsula. The ‘aha’ moment that encouraged them to take on this venture was when they took staff from Maxs restaurant on a day trip to meet the local producers and see where the produce is grown and created so they knew themselves first hand. Everyone enjoyed it so much that they thought to offer this to the general public.

Today Danielle and Max through MP Experience welcome guests from around the country and all over the world. Danielle is the driver – her focus is on taking the discerning traveller beyond the places that the large buses and crowds go, exploring the best the Pen has to offer through personalised, authentic experiences.

Danielle drives daily to unique experiences including wineries, to the stunning, less-travelled areas of the national parks to search for iconic Australian wildlife in their natural setting or sampling the superb wine, food and farm gate of the Pen. Danielle also has a creative and unique range of private, customised itineraries offering private, tailor-made to suit the interests and needs of each small group (no more than eight please). There really isn’t a better way of seeing a region. You can spend weeks on the Pen, get stuck seeing all of the obvious attractions yet miss some of the finer things that really define the region and grab your imagination.

As a private tour provider, Danielle and Max take great pride in the Pen; they like nothing more than to immerse you into the core of the experience take you to places of historical, cultural and artistic interest to ensure that your stay, is a most exciting and memorable one.

The guide books provide, for the most part, factual information, answers as to who, why, how, where and when, like news journalists are trained to do. But, often something is missing, and that’s the story behind the story or the amusement, the spirit, the story of risk and the origin of the seed of an idea that sprang forth. That is what livens up the best MP Experience tours.

Danielle and Max have no scripted speeches or monologues. They’re enthusiastic and passionate about what they do. As a licensed private Mornington Peninsula tour provider it’s their pleasure to build a tour that focuses on your interests, preferences and whims and understand that MP Experience is not for everyone. They have learned over the years that those who choose their way of touring the Pen – privately – are seeking the best possible tour experience.

In 6 Hours, you’ll see what would take 4 to 5 Days on your own. They will provide you with a Uniquely Enjoyable Experience that will Expand Your Awareness of the extraordinary history, activities, food and farm gate, towns and resources in the Pen.

All our tours are performed in first class comfort and style from the seats of their modern warm Mercedes Benz. Pick-Up and Drop-Offs can be arranged from anywhere. For more information on MP Experience click here  or call Danielle directly on 0410 596 637

Private Full Day Wine Tour

The Mornington Peninsula is an exciting region for winemakers to express the terroir of their diverse sites. This allows the various characters of wine to almost match the landscape. Pinot Noir is perhaps the best grape to express this and the region is very fortunate to have all the qualities to make a truly great selection of interesting and expressive wines. The principle varieties and most successful styles are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which flourish in the Peninsula's conditions. Though introduced to the region more recently, pinot gris has built a strong reputation for quality and regional distinction. Almost 50% of plantings are Pinot Noir, around 25% Chardonnay, 11% Pinot Gris/Grigio and a diverse range of other varieties suited to specific sites, including Shiraz, as you will see as you tour our region. Inclusions: pick up from your Mornington Peninsula accommodation in our Mercedes (additional price for Melbourne pick up) tutored wine tasting at 4-6 cellar doors 2 course a la carte lunch and glass wine at Maxs at Red Hill Estate

Mandana is yet another art form of MP that is mostly painted by women on the walls of houses to represent good luck and ward off evil spirits. 'Fiasco': Willy Wonka experience in Scotland creates sour taste for ticket buyers

When willy wonka fans bought tickets to the willy's chocolate experience in scotland, they expected to get to eat their way through a re-creation of the chocolate factory. the reality fell far short..

mp experience tours

A Willy Wonka-themed event in Scotland marketed as a place "where dreams come to life" turned sour last weekend, with police arriving and attendees wanting refunds.

At least those who ventured to Willy's Chocolate Experience in the Scottish city of Glasgow on Saturday are apparently getting their money back.

A U.K. event company called House of Illuminati promised attendees chocolate fountains, performances by Oompa Loompas and "a celebration of chocolate in all its delightful forms," the company promised on its website about the event based on Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."

Instead, when the venue opened on Saturday, Feb. 24, ticket-buyers found a sparsely decorated warehouse with a pair of women with green wigs – apparently the Oompa Loompas – and an actor portraying Willy Wonka, who looked more like an Oompa Loompa than Wonka.

Spring break: US issues Mexico 'increased caution' warning for travelers

Willy Wonka actor calls Glasgow, Scotland event a 'fiasco'

"I feel for anyone who bought tickets to this event, people who were expecting a magical chocolate experience and got me in a top hat in a dirty warehouse in Glasgow," said Paul Connell, an actor and comic who posted videos about the experience on TikTok and spoke to BBC Radio about the "fiasco," as he called it.

Connell said he and the other actors "were furious."

"We’d been conned, as well, and it did turn quite scary at one point because people were angry," he said.

Still, the actors tried to do as best they could for children in attendance, he told the BBC.

But, "there was lots of shouting and groups of people getting very, very irate," he said.

Children were crying with disappointment, Eva Stewart, 19, of East Kilbride, Scotland told the BBC . Instead of "this big massive Willy Wonka experience with optical illusions and big chocolate fountains and sweets … it was practically an abandoned, empty warehouse, with hardly anything in it," she said.

Father: Wonka experience 'an absolute con'

It took two minutes to see all the sights and then Stuart Sinclair came across "a queue of people surrounding the guy running it complaining," he said in a Facebook post with pictures showing the venue.

Calling the event "an absolute con," he added: "The kids received two jelly babies and a quarter of a can of bars limeade."Sinclair told The New York Times that he drove two hours and paid about $44 per ticket to bring his three children. “There was maybe 20 chairs, a couple of tables and a half-inflated bouncy castle,” he told the Times.

Police responded to the Box Hub Warehouse mid-day Saturday to find angry attendees wanting refunds, the BBC reported . It was not clear who called the police, the Times reported. The event was shut down and the organizers refunded tickets and apologized for the “very stressful and frustrating day,” The Guardian reported .

Company responds to 'fiasco'

The company organizing the event, the House of Illuminati, released a statement.

"Unfortunately, last minute we were let down in many areas of our event and tried our best to continue on and push through and now realize we probably should have cancelled first thing this morning instead," the company statement said.

A Facebook group continues to discuss refunds and how promotional imagery was likely generated by artificial intelligence.

"The event organizers apparently used artificial intelligence to generate promotional images that suggested a very high-quality attraction, which looked just like the immersive and trippy Wonka-esque world that the ad copy promised," The Hollywood Reporter reported . "Ticket buyers needed pure imagination to think it looked anything like a fantastical chocolate factory."

Connell said he thought his Wonka script was "AI-generated gibberish."

House of Illuminati promises refunds for its Willy Wonka-themed event

"I am truly sorry for any upset and disappointment caused at the weekend. Refunds have been issued and will continue to do so," the House of Illuminati company said on its Facebook page . "This was an event gone wrong, the house of illuminati will NOT be holding any event in the foreseeable future."

So much for the most wonderful place in the whole world.

The celebration is a tradition Hokies look forward to all year long. Alumni Weekend has become a beloved summertime milestone when Hokies can experience campus like never before and celebrate what makes the Virginia Tech community special.

Individual classes and groups also will be marking milestones with opportunities to celebrate anniversary year reunions with classmates. Several campus affinity groups , including Student Alumni Associates, Catholic Campus Ministry/Newman Community, and the German Club, will also be meeting up to reconnect and celebrate.

“I love attending Alumni Weekend for so many reasons,” said Laura Viancour ‘80.

“For years I'd only come to Virginia Tech for sports events. But at the reunion, you remember and get to experience all the reasons why you wanted to come in the first place.”

Cornerstone Alumni and the Class of 1974 also have special events planned. The Class of 1974 will celebrate its 50th Reunion and become part of the esteemed Cornerstone Alumni group.

But Alumni Weekend isn’t just for those marking a major milestone – all Hokies and their families and friends are invited to Blacksburg to join the celebration. The weekend festivities include something for everyone.

“I really like the tours of the new facilities, learning about the cutting edge research we're doing, the closing breakfast with the coaches, and being able to sample so many new Hokie and Virginia products,” said Viancour.

For those who are unable to attend in-person, a virtual option will be also available. Registration for the online only event will open this spring.

Registration for the weekend in Blacksburg is discounted through March. Early bird registration is $175 for adults, $60 for children ages 6 to 17, and free for children 5 and under. Glasgow ‘willy wonka experience’ unites the internet in laughter.

Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory famously ends with Willy Wonka gifting Charlie his titular factory, a place of infinite wonder and possibilities; the two then watch a sad procession of disappointed children exit the factory, permanently altered from their experience.

Something similar seems to have happened in Glasgow, Scotland, with the now-infamous “Willy Wonka Experience.”

What Happened With The Glasgow Willy Wonka Experience?

A “Willy Wonka Experience” was misleadingly advertised with AI-generated imagery that did not remotely resemble the actual location, resulting in some very disappointed children, and gifting the internet a Golden Ticket, sparking many memes.

The official website for the event is still up, and worth browsing, because it highlights exactly what happens when one uses AI to generate pictures and text, without bothering to edit what it spits out.

Senate Passes Bill To Avert Government Shutdown—Biden To Sign

The magnificent 7 are falling like dominos; only 3 remain, the top 10 richest people in the world march 2024.

The AI-generated imagery is riddled with unsettling “hallucinations,” and the writing is filled with errors and clumsy sentences; one blurb promises “a heart-pounding experience you've never experienced before!”

Not an inaccurate description, according to photos and footage of the dismal event that were posted online.

The woefully disappointing “Willy Wonka Experience” quickly went viral, showing a grim warehouse sparsely decorated with cheap props, inhabited by costumed performers who seem just as baffled as the customers, who reportedly paid £35 per ticket.

Angry parents demanded refunds from the organizers of the event, and even called the police; the event was shut down before the day was done.

Disappointing Willy Wonka Experience Becomes A Meme

Naturally, the internet loved it; the event was described as a “Fyre Festival” for kids.

One would expect the story to flicker and die as the novelty wore off, but details from the experience continued to leak online, and social media users were enamored with the “lore.”

A photo of a glum-looking actress (Kirsty Paterson) dressed as an Oompa-Loompa became the defining image of the event, and inspired many memes.

Paterson told her side of the story to Vulture ; she describes attempting to make the best of things after being underwhelmed by her costume, props and script (which she suspects was AI-generated).

Paterson soon became the hero of the story, as more photos of her earnestly trying to engage with the young visitors leaked online; she really tried her best.

Other performers unfortunate enough to have been roped into the event have shared their stories online — no one had good things to say.

The experience quickly devolved into chaos, with crying children, shouting parents, and a handful of performers who were tasked with entertaining the visitors, encouraged to “improvise” by the organizers of the event.

The disappointment must have been immeasurable. Children were promised a wild ride through Candyland, but were given a handful of jellybeans and a “quarter cup” of lemonade — yes, you read that right.

At one point, there was even a jump scare, for some reason.

‘The Unknown’ Steals The Show

Performer Paul Connell spoke to The Independent about playing the role of Willy Wonka for the event, and described the script he received as “15 pages of AI-generated gibberish.”

Connell went on to describe a sinister character that appears to have been completely fabricated by generative AI, highlighting how the technology doesn’t understand context or tone, making it useless for storytelling.

“The bit that got me was where I had to say, “There is a man we don’t know his name. We know him as the Unknown. This Unknown is an evil chocolate maker who lives in the walls,” Connell said.

The Unknown, of course, does not appear in Dahl’s book, or any of the film adaptations. It was depicted by a performer wearing a shiny Halloween mask, who leaps out from behind a mirror, alarming the children.

“The Unknown” became a fan-favorite among internet commentators, inspiring impressive fan art and creative video edits .

One talented artist even drew the Unknown in the distinctively scratchy style of Quentin Blake, an illustrator who often collaborated with Dahl and has become associated with his stories.

The presence of “the Unknown” summarizes the whole story — a character generated by AI that doesn’t remotely resemble one of Dahl’s creations, awkwardly placed into a Chocolate Factory tour, to frighten confused children.

Dahl was famously a dark storyteller, but tellingly, the AI couldn’t mimic his style at all.

If Dahl were to create a villain for Willy Wonka, it would probably be called something like the “Snuggle-Womper” or the “Grub-Snatcher,” and would be both whimsical and terrifying.

The closest thing the story has to villains (other than Willy Wonka himself) are the children who fall victim to Wonka’s contraptions, and Dahl clearly expects the reader to be greatly amused by their suffering.

In an odd way, Dahl’s twisted vision has been accurately manifested through the Willy Wonka Event, and many commentators made the comparison.

The Willy Wonka Experience United The Internet In Laughter

Disappointed children aside, the event has inspired a great deal of joy, sparking jokes, memes and fan edits of the underwhelming footage.

Many edits utilized footage and screenshots from The Simpsons , always a goldmine for material.

The meme was even folded into the bonkers conspiracy theories surrounding the “missing” Kate Middleton , like a Russian nesting doll for the extremely online.

Some commentators have predicted that the now-iconic event could be adapted into a feature film; others praised the meme for revitalizing X (Twitter), which often feels like a dead mall nowadays.

One person even created a petition , requesting that the “beloved” Willy Wonka Event reopen, so that the masses could experience the event with ironic delight.

The story highlights the perils of misleading customers in the internet age, where everyone is free to post their experiences online, and make an underwhelming event go viral.

It’s also another negative story associated with generative AI, which has racked up an impressive amount of bad press; the technology has led to Taylor Swift deepfake porn , copyright lawsuits , and unleashed a tsunami of bad art , nonsensical writing and fake books on Amazon.

Willy Wonka, as unhinged as he was, would never resort to using such unimaginative technology; all of his horrors were crafted by human hands.

Indiana candy and chocolate factories you don't need a golden ticket to tour

mp experience tours

If Oompa Loompas were real, they would've sung a song about how terrible " Willy's Chocolate Experience " was in Glasgow, Scotland, last week.

What do you get when you pay $44 a ticket to see "a celebration of chocolate in all its delightful forms?" Apparently a sparsely decorated warehouse with a half-inflated bouncy castle, jaded actors who clearly look miserable , as well as a nightmare-fueled villain who reduced some children to tears.

Even worse, there was no chocolate .

Kids received two jelly beans and a cup of limeade. Organizers have since apologized after furious parents called police , demanding refunds, the BBC reported.

'Fiasco': Willy Wonka experience in Scotland creates sour taste for ticket buyers

If those same U.K. parents ever travel to the United States, they ought to visit Indiana. The Hoosier state is fortunate to have several chocolate and candy factories that won't leave you feeling sour by the end of your trip.

Here are some of the sweetest tours even Willy Wonka would be proud of.

Abbott’s Candies - Hagerstown

Abbott's has been making caramel since before automobiles were invented. The company bills itself as the oldest candy shop in Indiana having been established in 1890. You can visit this Hagerstown confectionary for its handmade caramels and toffees as well as peanut and cashew brittle. And while there's no river of chocolate to sail on, Abbott's has a lot of fudge to enjoy.

Free, handicap accessible tours are available at Abbott's for small to large groups from 10-10:30 a.m. or 1-1:30 p.m., according to the company, which asks visitors to book the tours ahead of time in order to reserve a spot. You can request a tour online at abbottscandy.com/tours/ to watch as the candy is made.

Where it is : 48 E Walnut St, Hagerstown, IN 47346

Schimpff’s Confectionery - Jeffersonville

Opened in 1891, Schimpff's Confectionery in Jeffersonville near Louisville is one of the oldest family-owned candy businesses in the country. Visitors can enjoy the 50s-style soda fountain, candy museum , enjoy locally made favorites such as Cinnamon Red Hots and watch as the candy is being made .

Free tours lasting roughly 40 minutes are available Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., according to the company, except on major holidays when the factory is closed.

Where it is : 347 Spring St, Jeffersonville, IN 47130

South Bend Chocolate Company - South Bend (of course)

Visitors who take the factory tour at the South Bend Chocolate Company are treated to a pretty sweet deal.

A guide leads guests through its more than 58,000 square-foot factory, teaching a history lesson of chocolate and its origins. The chocolate museum is home to one of the largest collections of chocolate memorabilia in the world, according to the company, including a 1,300-year-old Mayan chocolate pot.

For "Wonka-wannabes" who pay a small fee, you can go behind the scenes for a personal tour lasting roughly an hour. The cost is $5 ages 12 and up, $2 for children 2-11. Tours are at the top of every hour, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Mon–Fri and 9 a.m.–2 p.m. on Saturdays. Closed Sundays & major holidays.

Where it is : 3300 W Sample St South Bend, IN

DeBrand Fine Chocolates - Fort Wayne

DeBrand Fine Chocolates founder, Cathy Brand-Beere, began her confectionery career at age 8 , making and selling candy in elementary school. Her passion for chocolate never soured, according to her company website. Today, her company employs roughly 100 people and has retail shops in Fort Wayne and in Indianapolis.

Visitors to Fort Wayne can take a tour of the factory, viewing the chocolate making kitchens and walk away with gourmet chocolate samples. Public tours happen Tuesdays at 10 a.m., Thursdays at 1 p.m. and Saturdays at 10:30 a.m., according to the company. The cost is $10 per person, with each person receiving a rebate of $10 off a $20 or more purchase. No reservation is required. Private tours are available as well.

Where it is : 10105 Auburn Park Dr, Fort Wayne, IN 46825 .

A magenta dotted line.

By Lindsay Zoladz

Dear listeners,

Last Friday night, the pop sensation and verbal vampire slayer Olivia Rodrigo kicked off her Guts World Tour, one of the most anticipated live shows of the year. My colleague Jon Caramanica caught opening night in Palm Desert, Calif., and named it a Critic’s Pick , writing that Rodrigo “brought the perfection and order of musical theater to the pop-punk and piano balladry that her songs toggle between.”

An avowed student of female-driven ’90s alternative rock — when I saw her two years ago at Radio City Music Hall, she played a rousing cover of Veruca Salt ’s “Seether” — Rodrigo wears her influences on her sleeve and, in one particular case, books them for her tour. Though the brash, big-voiced pop singer Chappell Roan kicked off the show in Palm Desert, for some dates Rodrigo will be joined by the legendary Gen-X rockers the Breeders . Any young pop supernova who picks the Deal sisters to open for her — and who convinces them that she’s a talent worth supporting — is all right by me.

While not everyone who sees the Guts World Tour will be lucky enough to witness some lavender-clad grrrls experience “Cannonball” live for the first time, every opener Rodrigo selected is worth arriving early to catch. Today’s playlist, comprising her supporting acts, hopes to convince you of that.

Roan, a rising star whose influences connect the dots between Katy Perry and “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” opens the show until April 2, when the Breeders take over for a four-night stint at Madison Square Garden. They’ll pass the baton to Remi Wolf , an eclectic and charismatically in-your-face singer-songwriter, who will handle the European dates, until the tour returns to North America in July and is supported by the whispery electro-pop upstart PinkPantheress . In mid-August, for the tour’s last splash — forgive me — the Breeders return for several dates in Los Angeles.

In her music, Rodrigo centers her own personal experience of girlhood, and in some sense all four of these supporting artists offer different variations on that theme. Get ready for some towering choruses, gigantic personalities and refreshingly expansive takes on musical femininity.

Got that long hair, long beard, turtleneck sweater,

Listen along while you read.

1. chappell roan: “pink pony club”.

First released in that cursed month of April 2020, this gloriously melodramatic anthem gradually became something of a cult favorite among Roan’s fan base; it was later rereleased on her 2023 debut full-length “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.” It’s a tale of a repressed Southern girl who leaves Tennessee to dance in a West Hollywood club — a little bit “Born This Way,” a little bit Kate Bush and a whole lot Chappell Roan. ▶ Listen on Spotify , Apple Music or YouTube

2. The Breeders: “Divine Hammer”

One of many giddy classics from the Breeders’ great 1993 album “Last Splash,” this tune finds Kim Deal, in her inimitably textured voice, looking for the divine in all the wrong places.

▶ Listen on Spotify , Apple Music or YouTube

3. Remi Wolf: “Grumpy Old Man”

Thank you, Olivia Rodrigo, for picking the 28-year-old alt-pop star Remi Wolf as one of your openers and reminding me how much I loved her zany, hilarious and absurdly catchy 2021 album, “Juno.” This is still my favorite track: a tuneful showcase of Wolf’s audacious personality that sounds, in all the best ways, like some long-lost ’90s novelty hit.

4. PinkPantheress: “Internet Baby (Interlude)”

“I am not your internet baby,” the 22-year-old viral sensation PinkPantheress warns on this electro ear worm from her 2023 debut full-length, “Heaven Knows.” I believe I lost the respect of some of my colleagues when I admitted how few roller coasters I was able to handle when I interviewed this noted and very brave thrill-ride enthusiast at a theme park last year. (The answer is one.)

5. Chappell Roan: “Hot to Go!”

I appreciate the frenzied energy of this single from “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” which was produced by Rodrigo collaborator Daniel Nigro. Roan has said of the track, fittingly, “I wrote this song so I could live out my cheerleader fantasy!”

6. The Breeders: “When I Was a Painter”

The Breeders’ 1990 debut, “Pod" — which Kurt Cobain called one of his favorite records — was the group’s only LP to feature Tanya Donelly, the former Throwing Muses guitarist who left the Breeders to start the band Belly. (Olivia Rodrigo, please cover “Feed the Tree.” ) The “Pod” songs are rawer and airier than the tighter pop-rock of “Last Splash,” but they showcase another side of a great band just the same.

7. Paramore & Remi Wolf: “You First”

I love what Wolf did with this Paramore song on “Re: This Is Why,” a remix compilation of songs from the band’s 2023 album “This Is Why.” The original is dark, oblique and subdued, but Wolf transforms it into a fist-pumping, Technicolor-bright blast of power-pop.

8. PinkPantheress: “Just for Me”

This dreamy, looping 2021 track, later sampled by the rapper Central Cee, was one of PinkPantheress’s breakout hits and remains one of the most quintessential demonstrations of her singular sound. The vertigo-inducing ride Kraang Prime Pandemonium! was, indeed, just for her, because there was no way I was getting on that thing.

California could get 10 feet of snow as Sierra Nevada braces for blizzard with up to 100 mph winds

March will roar in like a lion for the West Coast, where the Sierra Nevada is about to be blasted by a multiday blizzard that begins Thursday night and will last until Sunday.

At the peak of the storm, some locations — like Donner Pass in California and Lake Tahoe on the California-Nevada border — could experience snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour and ferocious wind gusts of 50 to 100 mph for 72 hours straight.

Given this will be such a cold and windy storm, the blinding snow could snarl a large stretch of the heavily traveled I-80 corridor and greatly affect communities as low as the Sierra foothills.

The western United States on Feb. 29, 2024.

The snow will begin to intensify across northern and central portions of the Sierra on Thursday night into early Friday morning.

Heavy snow and fierce winds will affect the Sierra all day while windswept rain drenches coastal areas (including the Bay Area).

On Saturday, the heavy snow will continue to blanket the Sierra, while rain moves into Southern California.

By the time the storm wraps up Sunday, snowfall will be measured in feet, with up to 5 to 10 feet possible at the highest elevations.

Some specific snowfall forecasts:

  • Donner Pass: 5-10 feet
  • Blue Canyon: 4-7 feet
  • Lake Tahoe: 3-6 feet
  • Pollock Pines: 1-3 feet

Up to this point in the season, much of the Sierra has been running below average in snowfall. In some spots, the snowfall deficit is as much as 7 to 8 feet. This single storm could erase some snowfall deficits and instead create a surplus.

If the maximum snowfall forecast ranges can be realized, this storm may end up setting records for one of the largest snowstorms on record. It could also rival some of the largest single-day snowstorms for parts of the central Sierra.

Area forecast offices were also warning of a high to extreme avalanche danger, with large to very large avalanches possible, especially in the backcountry.

As the West deals with cold and snow to kick off March, areas to the east will be picking up right where February left off — with record warmth.

February set records from coast to coast, where 92% of the Lower 48 states experienced warmer than average temperatures. The only exceptions were parts of California and the Florida Peninsula.

Cities that will go down as having their warmest February on record include: Fargo, North Dakota; Minneapolis; Des Moines, Iowa; St. Louis; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Little Rock, Arkansas; Green Bay, Wisconsin; Chicago; Milwaukee; and Syracuse and Albany in New York.

After the recent temperature tumble and a couple of cold days, record warmth roars back for millions east of the Rocky Mountains beginning Friday and lasting through the weekend.

High temperatures climbing well above average will lead to record highs Friday through Monday from the Upper Midwest to interior Northeast. Sunday will be the day when most record highs are possible.

Cities that could set record highs this weekend into Monday include: Duluth, Minnesota; Green Bay, Wisconsin; Wichita, Kansas; Minneapolis; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Burlington, Vermont; Buffalo, New York; Detroit; and Milwaukee.

This will translate to cities like Minneapolis and Chicago soaring into the 70s and New York City rising into the 60s by Monday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- This new world of name, image and likeness money has resulted in plenty of college athletes looking for organic ways to build their brands.

For some it’s getting old-fashioned endorsement deals, while for others it’s using the internet and social media to their advantage as a way to build a following, and it isn’t just exclusive to scholarship athletes. Ohio State walk-on defensive back Andrew Moore has spent the past year building a following through his YouTube channel, providing insight on what it’s like being part of the football program.
