As Adm. James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and Capt. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) monitor trainees at Starfleet Academy, another vessel from the United Federation of Planets is about to try out the planet-creating Genesis Device in a seemingly deserted portion of space. In the process, two of Kirk's officers are captured by Khan (Ricardo Montalban), an enemy Kirk thought he'd never see again. Once more, Kirk takes the Enterprise's helm, where he meets Khan's ship in an intergalactic showdown.

Critic Reviews for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

Audience reviews for star trek ii: the wrath of khan.

Arguably the high point for the original cast's film franchise. Shatner shows true vulnerability as Kirk in this film and Ricardo Montalban cements his place as one of the best portrayed villains in film as Khan. The result of the film is not seen coming and you wonder how the crew will bounce back in the inevitable next film.

star trek 2 full movie

Sequels are supposed to take what was great about the first outing and expand on it while also improving upon the mishaps as well. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is better than the first film in almost every aspect. I took issue with the pacing, overuse of special effects, length, and the lack of a present villain in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. This film wipes away silly and unnecessary special effects and gives us an intriguing story with characters who we understand and care about. It's also a solid 30 minutes shorter without cutting out anything that would hurt the story. I was thoroughly impressed by this sequel even 30 years after its release. We open the film as the enterprise seemingly has a new captain in Kirstie Alley's Saavik, only to find out its a training exercise put together by Spock and Admiral Kirk. I was worried they may rehash the same story line as the first film as Kirk seemed to hint that he may be done with the Enterprise, only to run into an old foe in Khan. Even though I have seen bits and pieces of the original series and had been somewhat familiar with Khan as a villain, I didn't know to the extent to which him and Kirk were linked. I was glad to see viewing of his appearance in the TV series wasn't entirely necessary as they explained enough in the 103 minute run-time. Khan has become somewhat of a pop culture icon over the years, so I had my fair share of expectations going in. Ricardo Montalban's performance and the writing didn't let me down. So much so that you understand where Khan is coming from when he wants Project Genesis from the crew and wants revenge for what Kirk did. In many ways, he was Kirk's arch nemesis and proved to come through with a lot of what he swore to do to Kirk. My only gripe with him as a villain was that I feel like we were missing an in person interaction with Kirk himself. Speaking through a video screen inside the Enterprise isn't enough, you need that human interaction. With that said, The Wrath of Khan has the emotional layers and character depths that the first film was lacking. All of the original dynamics of the ship are there, plus some new and enjoyable ones as well. Plus, it doesn't take 45 minutes for things to get going, the pacing is much improved. James Horner's haunting score also sets the tone immediately from the opening scene, all the way through the bittersweet ending. Overall, everything feels bigger and better with The Wrath of Khan. Having seen the new Trek films, I think this can rank up there with them as some of the best outings the Enterprise crew has ever had. +Fantastic score +Emotionally layered +Special effects & pacing much improved +Very good villain -Although Khan was missing the human interaction with Kirk 8.6/10

And this is coming from an adamant "definitely not a fan" of the original series.

This is the second movie in all of the "Star Trek" movies, and it's considered the best(I've only seen this and the first one). This is miles better than the first movie, and really showcases a great story, with great characters. A guy I work with recommended I watch an old episode called "Space Seed" first. It's not mandatory, but it's a great thing to do, because it gives a great set up, and you get to see why Khan and Kirk hate each other. The effects are very dated, and the acting is just awesome. Awesome, because it's all overacted, which for a movie like this works well. When Kirk yells Khan, it's just awesome. I like the Abrams movies better, but this makes me want to continue with the old movies to see where it all goes. Good movie that's still good 30 years later.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan review – Spock and Kirk shine in charming Enterprise revisit

The 1982 sequel to the original Star Trek film, featuring a film debut for Kirstie Alley, returns to cinemas with its crowdpleasing zap and raw emotion intact

T he 1982 sequel to the original Star Trek feature film is now re-released: a brisker, brasher work directed by Nicholas Meyer which moved away from the more lugubrious, Kubrickian ambitions of the first film and back to the crowdpleasing zap of the TV show, importantly starting with the irresistible theme tune. However, 60s TV Star Trek would surely never have given us anything like the rather extraordinary moment included in this movie: chief engineer Mr Scott is discreetly treated for a certain ailment by Dr McCoy, because of his recent “shore leave”. Too much information there about Mr Scott’s private life.

Wrath of Khan is the film that sensationally gave us the heroic and tragic sacrifice of Mr Spock, a wonderful performance of sonorous gravitas from Leonard Nimoy. That calamity traumatised its audiences and taught future generations of franchise-creators from Star Wars to Harry Potter that nothing grabs the fanbase like a big death. The Spock demise was further elevated in pop culture a decade later on the Seinfeld TV show when it was revealed that Jerry’s friend George Constanza was, in adult life, more moved by the memory of Spock’s fate than by the death of his own fiancee.

The situation aboard the USS Enterprise is that Spock is now captain, mentoring a commander-in-training, Saavik, played by Kirstie Alley in her debut film role. There has been another uniform redesign: tunics are now a deep cherry red, thus confounding the “red jersey” stigma, traditionally the colour of other ranks’ uniforms, those most likely to die when beamed down to other planets with more important cast-members.

Ricardo Montalbán as Khan.

Admiral James T Kirk (William Shatner) is yearning to get away from desk responsibility and see action once again. He is grimly aware of the passing years, made more piquant by a birthday present from his plain-speaking pal, Dr McCoy (DeForest Kelley): a pair of reading glasses. But Admiral Kirk’s inspection of the Enterprise coincides with a threat from his old nemesis Khan (an enjoyably hammy Ricardo Montalbán) who tries to steal a terrifyingly powerful new invention: the Genesis, which has the power to create biological lifeforms on desolate planets, but also to destroy lifeforms that are already there.

The unspeakable Khan gains an insidious access to the Enterprise by capturing Chekov (Walter Koenig) and getting a little reptile’s offspring to slither into his ear, thus putting him under a hypnotic influence: a truly creepy moment. And so the duel between Kirk and his old adversary begins, with the Admiral periodically shouting “Khaaaaan!” in pedantic moments of defiance. It’s still entertaining and charming in its innocent idealism.

  • Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert Although I liked the special effects in the first movie, they were probably not the point; fans of the TV series wanted to see their favorite characters again, and Trek II understood that desire and acted on it.
  • Decent Films Steven D. Greydanus Has everything you could ask for in a good sci‑fi action-adventure: well-drawn heroes, a terrific villain, exciting outer-space showdowns… and a touch of reflective depth.
  • New York Daily News Ernest Leogrande Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is the movie that should have been made the first time around.
  • Atlanta Journal-Constitution Scott Cain Star Trek II tells a sock-'em story, which is more than can be said for the first Star Trek movie. Nicholas Meyer, an energetic director, is a master of narrative, and Star Trek II crackles with his wit.
  • AV Club Keith Phipps Shatner and Montalban never share the same space, but their face-offs highlight the film, as they both wring every drop of drama out of their lines.
  • New York Magazine/Vulture David Denby It's TV all the way: The actors race up and down plastic corridors in the same old story about the universe almost coming to an end.
  • Orange County Register Pat H. Broeske Though Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan lacks the grandiose sweep and inflated budget of the first film, it is infinitely richer in characterizations, and its succinctly drawn storyline manages to be both riveting and warmly affecting.
  • Associated Press Bob Thomas Director Nicholas Meyer handles the human factor as deftly as the space hardware.
  • Los Angeles Times Kevin Thomas A brisk, handsomely designed film in which its hardware, sturdy as it is, never overwhelms its humanity.
  • TIME Magazine Richard Schickel There is something comfortable, even old-shoeish, about the new film, a sense, appropriate to its theme of coming to terms with middle age, that all aboard are pleasurably rediscovering their best selves.
  • Variety Variety Staff Star Trek II is a very satisfying space adventure, closer in spirit and format to the popular TV series than to its big-budget predecessor.
  • Chicago Reader Dave Kehr If only director Nicholas Meyer had grasped the implications of his tale more fully and enthusiastically, this might have become a classic piece of cornball SF poetry, but as it stands the tepid acting and one-set claustrophobia take a heavy toll.
  • Austin Chronicle Austin Chronicle Staff Ricardo Montalban plays the badass Khan in one of the most commanding performances of his career.
  • New York Times Janet Maslin Here comes a sequel that's worth its salt. The second Star Trek movie is swift, droll and adventurous, not to mention appealingly gadget-happy. It's everything the first one should have been and wasn't.
  • ReelViews James Berardinelli Star Trek II added hefty doses of action, adventure, and suspense, injecting life into a concept that had been left moribund by its first big-screen feature.
  • New Yorker Pauline Kael Using the contrast between Ricardo Montalban's fiery Khan and William Shatner's pasty Captain Kirk as the psychological center, [director Nicholas Meyer] keeps the movie whipping from one incident to another.
  • Deep Focus Review Brian Eggert The Wrath of Khan does something that movies based on television shows have tried to do, but have often failed to accomplish: the film elevates the material from TV to film with appropriate gravitas.
  • L.A. Weekly F.X. Feeney In the end, it makes for a beautiful summary, an envoi from which one can circle back through the re-runs and consider Star Trek as a finished whole. Even if they never make another, the saga can stand complete.
  • Tilt Magazine Stephen Silver The movie that may very well have saved the Trek franchise (40th anniversary)
  • San Francisco Examiner Peter Stack Fans of the Starship Enterprise will be ecstatic while others will find in this production a certain sluggish pace amid rather fine special effects.

It is the 23rd century. The Federation Starship U.S.S. Enterprise is on routine training maneuvers and Admiral James T. Kirk seems resigned to the fact that this inspection may well be the last space mission of his career. But Khan is back. Aided by his exiled band of genetic supermen, Khan - brilliant renegade of 20th century Earth - has raided Space Station Regula One, stolen a top secret device called Project Genesis, wrested control of another Federation Starship and sets out in pursuit of the Enterprise, determined to let nothing stand in the way of his mission: kill Admiral Kirk... even if it means universal Armageddon.

When writing about a legend who’s still working as a nonagenarian, it’s almost obligatory to include a line about how they are seemingly busier than ever. William Shatner , 92, may no longer be on set 12 hours a day for the roles that made him the first Comic-Con celebrity ( Star Trek ), or that transformed him into a late-career regular at the Emmys podium ( The Practice , Boston Legal ), but it’s difficult not to marvel at the pace at which he lives his life.

Kenneth mitchell, 'star trek: discovery' actor, dies at 49, "i got a little blood on me": a makeup artist legend looks back on 'rocky' and 'star trek'.

Now, Shatner is the subject of the crowdfunded documentary You Can Call Me Bill (in select theaters March 22, his 93rd birthday), a meditation on his life, career and mortality.

The Montreal-born actor began performing at the age of 6 at camp and never stopped, transitioning from Canadian radio dramas to Broadway to 1950s TV Westerns. He’s been an omnipresent pop culture fixture since 1966, when he was cast as Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek under unusual circumstances never seen again in Hollywood. NBC had a pilot that didn’t work, but the network wanted to try again with a mostly new cast. Where the original pilot was a somewhat dry affair, Shatner brought much-needed humor to the Enterprise.

Though the show was canceled after just three seasons, it earned a cult following in syndication, and Shatner reprised the role for seven feature films.

His comedic chops led him to the Saturday Night Live stage — 38 years later, people still ask him about a sketch in which he mocked Star Trek fans with the exasperated line “Get a life!” — as well as multiple Emmy wins playing lawyer Denny Crane on David E. Kelley’s ABC procedural The Practice and then Boston Legal , which concluded after four years in 2008. And he has penned books, released albums and directed documentaries.

During a Zoom conversation in early March, Shatner discussed why Star Trek V: The Final Frontier , his first and only theatrical feature as a director, was the biggest regret of his career; that history-making Star Trek kiss with Nichelle Nichols; and what could lure him back to the captain’s chair.

Some say acting is a way to find the love they aren’t getting elsewhere. Was that true for you?

I’m sure it’s true. I spent a very lonely life in my younger years. Being able to join a cast and be a part of a group of people, I’m sure that was an element in my starting to be an actor when I was very young.

Though you acted throughout childhood, you got a practical degree, a bachelor of commerce, from McGill University in Montreal. Was the plan to use that degree?

But as an actor, you do have some control, right? You understudied for Christopher Plummer on Henry V in 1956, and he once said, “Where I stood up to make a speech, he sat down. He did the opposite of everything I did.”

I had no rehearsal. I didn’t know the people. And it was five days into the opening of the show [when Plummer got sick]. The choreography was one of the other things that I didn’t know. I was in a macabre state of mind. So that had nothing to do with “I stood where he sat.” [It was, rather], “I’ve got to move around the stage somewhere. I think I’ll sit down here, I’m exhausted!”

You worked with director Richard Donner on the classic Twilight Zone episode “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet,” which was in fact a nightmare for him, as it was technically complicated and the shooting days were halved. Did you sense the pressure he was under?

It’s complicated. When you get those science fiction choices: The guy is dressed in a furry little suit and you say, “Well, why isn’t the suit aerodynamic? Why is it a suit that’ll catch every breeze that blows?” What kind of logic do you use in any science fiction case? When I looked at the acrobat [Nick Cravat, who played a gremlin terrorizing Shatner’s character from the wing of a plane], I said to myself, “That isn’t something you’d wear on the wing of a 747,” but then again, what do you wear on the wing of a 747? So yeah, it was complicated in that way.

He was in the military, and he was a policeman. So there was this militaristic vision of “You don’t make out with a fellow soldier.” There are strict rules and you abide by the rules. Around that, [the writers] had to write the drama. But within that was the discipline of “This is the way a ship works.” Well, as Star Trek progressed, that ethos has been forgotten [in more recent shows]. I sometimes laugh and talk about the fact that I think Gene is twirling in his grave. “No, no, you can’t make out with the lady soldier!”

The writers of Star Trek: The Next Generation butted heads with Gene when he was alive.

The fights that went on, to my understanding, were big, because the writers had their difficulties. “We need some more material.” “We need to get out of here. It’s claustrophobic.”

When you joke that Gene is twirling in his grave, you mean he wouldn’t approve of onscreen romances between crewmates on the later shows?

Yes, exactly. I haven’t watched the other Star Trek s very much, but what I’ve seen with glimpses of the Next Generation is yes, the difficulty in the beginning, between management, was all about Gene’s rules and obeying or not obeying those rules.

You and Nichelle Nichols are credited with the first interracial kiss on TV. Is it true that you pushed to make every take real, despite the network asking for faked takes so they would have the option?

After three seasons, NBC cancels Star Trek in 1969, and you find yourself broke, doing summer stock theater on the East Coast. Did you think acting might be over at that point?

I’m broke, living in a truck, sleeping in the back and trying to save that money so I could support my three kids and my [ex-]wife, who were living in Beverly Hills. The only thing that ever occurred to me was, “I can always go back to Toronto and make something of a living as an actor there.” I never thought, “Oh, I’ve got to become a salesman.” It never occurred to me from the age of 6 to do anything else. Which is weird because [today] I hear it all around me: “God, I can’t make a living anymore [as an actor].” And that’s true. People with names can’t make a living under the circumstances that the business has fallen into.

In 1979, Paramount needed an answer to Star Wars , so it revived Trek in the form of movies. Then T.J. Hooker came along a few years later. What did you get out of the show?

It was a terrific show. It had all kinds of drama. I got to direct several of the episodes. And some of my shots are in the opening. I was totally involved, committed to the writing, committed to the directing. You’re running all the time. You’ve got to make decisions and you don’t have enough money.

I wish that I’d had the backing and the courage to do the things I felt I needed to do. My concept was, “ Star Trek goes in search of God,” and management said, “Well, who’s God? We’ll alienate the nonbeliever, so, no, we can’t do God.” And then somebody said, “What about an alien who thinks they’re God?” Then it was a series of my inabilities to deal with the management and the budget. I failed. In my mind, I failed horribly. When I’m asked, “What do you regret the most?,” I regret not being equipped emotionally to deal with a large motion picture. So in the absence of my power, the power vacuum filled with people that didn’t make the decisions I would’ve made.

You seem to take the blame, but outside observers might say, “Well, the budget wasn’t there. You didn’t get the backing you needed.” But in your mind, it’s on you.

Paramount+ is rumored to have tossed around ideas for you to reprise your role, à la Patrick Stewart in Star Trek: Picard . Is that something you would entertain?

Leonard [Nimoy] made his own decision on doing a cameo [in J.J. Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek ]. He’s there for a moment, and it’s more a stunt that Spock appears in a future. If they wrote something that wasn’t a stunt that involved Kirk, who’s 50 years older now, and it was something that was genuinely added to the lore of Star Trek , I would definitely consider it.

Did hosting SNL feel like a breakthrough, in terms of showing what you could do with comedy?

That was a new show then, it was a big sensation, and hosting it was good. They really wrote comedy for me. I played comedy since I was 7. There is a timing. There is a way of characterizing a line. It’s a kind of spiritual thing playing comedy, letting the audience know they’re open to laugh.

After decades in the industry, you achieved your greatest critical success in your 70s playing Denny Crane on Boston Legal . What was the genesis of Denny?

In 2021, at age 90, you became the oldest person to go to space. Upon landing, you had a tearful exchange with Jeff Bezos. How have you processed that?

I was weeping uncontrollably for reasons I didn’t know. It was my fear of what’s happening to Earth. I could see how small it was. It’s a rock with paper-thin air. You’ve got rock and 2 miles of air, and that’s all that we have, and we’re fucking it up. And, that dramatically, I saw it in that moment.

What are your thoughts on legacy?

At Mar-a-Lago, I was asked to help raise funds with the Red Cross. I had to be at Mar-a-Lago Saturday night, and Leonard’s funeral was Sunday morning. I couldn’t make both. I chose the charity. It just occurred to me: Leonard died. They got a statue up. It’s not going to last. Say it lasts 50 years, 100. [Someone will say], “Who is that Leonard Nimoy? Tear the statue down, put somebody else up.” But what you can’t erase is helping somebody or something. That has its own energy and reverberation. That person got help — and then is able to help somebody else. You’ve continued an action that has no boundaries. That’s what a good deed does

Why Hasn't 'Star Trek: Legacy' Been Greenlit? CBS CEO Explains Paramount's Plans

CBS' CEO George Cheeks isn't ruling it out, but "it’s really about the cadence and the timeline of it."

The Big Picture

  • Star Trek: Picard spin-off of Legacy has not been greenlit yet.
  • CBS CEO George Cheeks confirms Star Trek is still a priority for Paramount.
  • Cheeks is not ruling out the possibility of a Legacy series but explains that it's all about timing.

Paramount+ has a number of Star Trek projects in the works, but the proposed Star Trek: Legacy spin-off of Picard has yet to get the green light — despite the wishes of fans and creatives. A new interview with CBS CEO George Cheeks sheds some light on the matter, suggesting that the go-ahead for any future Trek projects is all about timing. In a conversation with Vulture , when asked about an official go-ahead for Legacy and the future of Trek at the streamer, given the recent cancellation of Star Trek: Discovery and the reassignment of Star Trek: Prodigy to Netflix, Cheeks gave the following answer:

"Star Trek remains one of the most important franchises for Paramount Global, and Paramount+ specifically. There’s so much great opportunity with the franchise, and it’s really about the cadence and the timeline of it. We don’t want to offer up all these amazing premium drama series at once. We want to time it out appropriately. Luckily, we have this incredible partner in Alex Kurtzman , and we all work together to sort of manage long-range planning across many years, to figure out what’s the right cadence for dropping new Star Trek series. So there’s a lot we’re focused on, but it should not suggest to you [a scaling back]. There is a tremendous amount of focus and prioritizing of the Star Trek franchise."

There are currently more official Star Trek projects in the works than ever before. Two live-action series are in production; Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is currently filming its third season , and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is in the pre-production stage. The fifth season of the animated Star Trek: Lower Decks is in the works , as is the first-ever Star Trek TV movie, Section 31 . Prodigy , although it is no longer available on Paramount, is currently completing post-production on its second season, which will be released on Netflix this year.

What Is 'Star Trek: Legacy'?

While much of Picard 's final season focused on reuniting the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation for one final adventure to save the Federation, the series also set up a potential "next Next Generation " of characters who could propel the franchise into the future.

The series ended with Seven of Nine ( Jeri Ryan ), a former Borg drone introduced in Star Trek: Voyager , being given command of the newly-rechristened USS Enterprise-G . Other crew members include Picard characters Raffi Musiker ( Michelle Hurd ), Jack Crusher ( Ed Speleers ), the son of Jean-Luc Picard and Beverly Crusher; and Geordi La Forge's daughter, Sidney LaForge ( Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut ). The series' final episode ended on a potential teaser, as the godlike Q ( John De Lancie ) appears before Crusher , telling him that his "trial," much like the one he subjected Picard to over the course of Next Generation 's seven seasons, had just begun.

Picard's third-season showrunner, Terry Matalas , has noted his eagerness to continue the story with a Legacy spin-off, as have members of the show's proposed cast . Fans, likewise, have responded with a letter-writing campaign to Paramount. Speleers is also confident that the series will happen if fans stay "noisy about it."

Star Trek: Legacy 's future at Paramount remains unclear. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.

Star Trek: Picard

Follow-up series to Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987) and Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) that centers on Jean-Luc Picard in the next chapter of his life.

6 TV shows you need to watch in April

Christine Persaud

Can you believe it’s almost April? While it might feel like you were just ringing in the new year, spring is already on the horizon, which also means a whole new selection of TV shows to sink your teeth into. With dramas, thrillers, shows based on video games, and even a Star Trek franchise show’s final season, this month’s picks are delightfully diverse.

American Horror Story: Delicate Part 2 (April 3)

Star trek: discovery season 5 (april 4), fallout (april 12), welcome to wrexham season 3 (april 18), knuckles (april 26), the veil (april 30).

Half of the six TV shows you need to watch in April are shows returning with new seasons and the other half are new titles that may well become your favorites. They are available through top streaming services , so make sure to bookmark these titles, their premiere dates, and where to stream them so you don’t miss out.

The 12th season of the popular horror anthology series premiered in September 2023, but fans have waited seven months for part 2, which is finally here. As with every season, American Horror Story: Delicate features an entirely new storyline with new characters, who are played this time around by Emma Roberts, Kim Kardashian, Cara Delevingne, and others.

  • 3 underrated Netflix shows you should watch this weekend (March 22-24)
  • Everything coming to Max (formerly HBO Max) in April 2024
  • Everything coming to Peacock in April 2024

As the first story to be based on a novel (Danielle Valentine’s Delicate Condition ), American Horror Story: Delicate centers around Anna (Roberts), an actress who is desperate to get pregnant, but believes someone is trying to prevent this from happening. She becomes obsessed with this idea, unsure if she’s just hallucinating or if her paranoid feelings are justified. Beneath the surface entertainment of the thrilling story is social commentary about topical issues like abortion rights, pregnancy, and gaslighting. AHS devotees might miss regular cast members like Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, and Lily Rabe, but the new cast brings a fresh take to the unique story in this season.

Stream American Horror Story: Delicate on Hulu .

Ending its run after this fifth and final season, Star Trek: Discovery flips back to a decade prior to the events in Star Trek: The Original Series . The setting begins in the 23rd Century, though the timeline jumps ahead by the end of season 2 to be well into the 32nd century, where the rest of the show takes place. Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) is a science specialist-turned-captain who leads her crew aboard the starship Discovery. Fresh off reassignment when her previous actions start a war, Burnham embarks on new adventures, investigating everything from rogue AIs to mysterious signals.

As the seventh Star Trek series overall and the first since Star Trek: Enterprise  ended in 2005, Star Trek: Discovery was a huge draw for CBS All Access (since rebranded as Paramount+ ) when it premiered in 2017. The series was followed by the show Star Trek: Strange New Worlds , which is gearing up for its third season. The upcoming movie Star Trek: Section 31 will serve as a spinoff of Star Trek: Discovery. Although it has receivied praise for its prosthetic makeup and visual effects, Martin-Green’s gripping performance is really what fuels Star Trek: Discovery and its story.

Stream Star Trek: Discovery on Paramount+.

The latest in a series of shows based on popular video game franchises, Fallout brings the role-playing game to life on the small screen. The postapocalyptic story is about a group of survivors residing in underground bunkers known as Vaults. They have escaped the resource war above ground, and are hunkering down in fear of a potential nuclear war. Lucy (Ella Purnell of Yellowjackets ) grew up in the vaults and decides to venture outside to explore the desolate wasteland above. Once there, she realizes the world outside of the fallout bunkers is more dangerous, savage, and terrifying than she ever imagined.

The Fallout TV show is developed by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, co-creators of the Westworld series. Nolan is also known as the creator of the sci-fi series Person of Interest and co-writer of movies like The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises , and Interstellar . The series also stars Walton Goggins ( The Righteous Gemstones ) as a mutated gunslinger called  The Ghoul, Aaron Moten as Maximus, a member of the Brotherhood of Steel, and Kyle MacLachlan as Lucy’s father, Hank. Fallout is a must-watch for fans of the video game, especially as it’s expected to remain faithful to the original story. But even those unfamiliar with the story and game will appreciate the series as another great entry in the postapocalyptic subgenre.

Right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney decided to do something totally unexpected and purchased a flailing Welsh football association club. In true Ted Lasso fashion, the pair believed they could turn the team around and inject much-needed passion (and funds) into the project. Why not chronicle their journey of trying to bring this club back to life in a docuseries? They did, and they call it Welcome to Wrexham.

Inspired by sports docuseries like Sunderland ‘Til I Die, Last Chance U , and Cheer , Welcome to Wrexham follows the new owners, but also gives fans a look behind the scenes at the players and others involved in the club, as well as the games. While Wrexham has yet to achieve its dream of making it to the Premier League, the team has been consistently moving up the ranks. Season 3 will, for the first time, premiere in spring, coinciding with the league games. The heartfelt, funny, and inspirational show has become a hit among fans who recognize the passion behind it.

Stream Welcome to Wrexham on Hulu.

If you love Sonic the Hedgehog , Knuckles should be on your list of shows to watch this month. The miniseries is based on the Sega video game series and serves as a spinoff of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies. The story takes places between the events in Sonic the Hedgehog 2  and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and centers around Knuckles the Echidna, voiced by Idris Elba. The super-strong echidna, who has now moved to Earth, is adjusting to his new life and setting. His primary job, however, is training Wade Whipple (Adam Pally), a dim-witted deputy sheriff, on how to be an echidna warrior, and, of course, how to help save the world.

Also featuring Cary Elwes, Stockard Channing, Scott Mescudi, Christopher Lloyd, and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog, Knuckles is a fun live-action movie to watch with the whole family.

Stream Knuckles on Paramount+.

Those who have been waiting anxiously for the return of The Handmaid’s Tale can check out Elisabeth Moss in The Veil in the meantime. She stars in this limited series thriller about two women traveling together from Istanbul to Paris, then London. But this isn’t a joyful road trip: one woman has a dangerous secret and the other is desperate to expose it before thousands of lives are lost.

Written by Steven Knight, best known for creating the BBC series Peaky Blinders , The Veil is all about truth, lies, and two women playing a game with stakes higher than they ever imagined. Moss, who learned a British accent for the role, also serves as a producer of the series.

March is almost over, and while it didn't win a lot of Oscars this year, Netflix is still a winner in terms of popularity. That's primarily due to its diverse slate of hits and critically acclaimed movies and shows, which range from The Gentlemen, Guy Ritchie's action-comedy series, to Damsel, a fantasy movie starring Millie Bobby Brown.

Netflix plans to maintain its dominance with its April programming slate, the best yet this year. The month starts with a bang with the premiere of Ripley, a new limited series that adapts the popular novel and 1999 movie The Talented Mr. Ripley, and the debut of Scoop, a drama based on the real-life scandal involving Prince Andrew's controversial interview with the BBC. The month ends with the highly anticipated adaptation of the popular Neil Gaiman comic book series Dead Boy Detectives and the second part of Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon films. Check the list below for everything coming to Netflix in April 2024.

Video game adaptations were wildly successful in 2023, including The Super Mario Bros. Movie, The Last of Us, and the Twisted Metal series. To kick off this year's gaming adaptations, Amazon Prime Video is premiering a new original series called Fallout, which is based on the hit video game franchise from Bethesda Softworks. Prime Video rarely goes small for something like this, and the Fallout TV series has a massive scale that most shows simply can't match.

The first thing that you need to know about Fallout is that you don't need to be familiar with the games to watch or enjoy the show. It's not based on any single game in particular, and it draws from several of the Fallout titles to shape the narrative of the show. But it can't hurt to have a little bit of background information before you're thrown into the wild postapocalyptic landscape of the series. That's why we've put together this roundup of everything you need to know about Fallout on Prime Video. Who's on the creative team behind Fallout? Prime Video brought out its big guns for Fallout: Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. The co-creators of HBO's Westworld signed on to produce the Fallout series in 2020, and Nolan is directing the first three episodes. Nolan and Joy are executive producers on the series, but the showrunners are Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner, both of whom are credited as the creators of the show.

There are thrillers and rom-coms galore on Netflix, but feel-good movies are a little harder to pin down to a single genre. That's because almost anything, from a drama or a comedy to a documentary, can be a feel-good movie. It has more to do with the response that the film gets from viewers than it does with the subject matter. And it often means more than just promising a happy ending because, in life, we have too few of those.

Our latest roundup of the best feel-good movies on Netflix includes the independently produced animation/live-action flick Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, the rom-coms Love At First Sight and Mamma Mia!, as well as a documentary that lives up to its title: The Greatest Night In Pop. And we have even more options for you below.
