Are you one of those people who are worried about how to stay in Dubai for three months? Do you also want to know whether Dubai allows a six-month visa or not? Do you wish to know the process of obtaining a visa for six months in the UAE?

The answer to the question is that it is possible to get a 6-month visa in Dubai if you are a professional, a bright student, an investor or an entrepreneur. However, even if you do not belong to any of these categories, it is still possible to live for six months in Dubai by contacting a local tourism agency. You can opt for the extension that gives you the option to stay there for six months without exit.

1. Six months visit visa in UAE for visitors belonging to a special category

People visiting UAE can now renew their six-month visa for multiple entry visits for another six months if they apply through the system of Ministry of Interior e-channels.

2. Eligibility

People who want to apply for this particular visa have to be a student, a professional, entrepreneurs, or investors. If they have a six-month visa for multiple entry, they will get an opportunity to explore the local environment of the UAE. They can also initiate their paperwork to get a long-term visa.

3. Application process

Abu Dhabi: People from outside the UAE can get a six-month multiple-entry visit visa, renewable for another six months by submitting an application through the e-channels system of the Ministry of Interior, an official spokesperson from the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (FAIC) told Gulf News .

The authority clarified that the six-month multiple-entry visit visa is meant for all categories of investors, entrepreneur, talented professionals and outstanding students interested in long-term residency visas.

The six-month multiple entry visas allows them to explore the local UAE markets and initiate their documentation works for the long-term visas.

Public service

This facility is available as a public service that does not require the applicant to sign in. Government officials continue to process such applications since the Cabinet announcement for different categories of long-term five and ten year visas for investors and talented individuals on May 1.

“The purpose of issuing the six-month validity visa with multiple travels is to enable those wishing to apply for a long term residency visas to visit UAE and explore the available opportunities in terms of investment, scientific researches and creation,” the official said.

Thus they can take the decision of applying for a residency visa or not.

Those who get this visa will be treated as residents, regarding the issuance of Emirates ID cards so that they could be able to complete investment procedures and all transactions required under the category of application, he said.

Ultimately, they can get a long term visa after satisfying the established requirements [for each category], he added.

Responding to Gulf News queries, the official stated that “the submitted applications will be reviewed by a committee composed of members of the relevant government ministries and authorities.”

NAT VISA UAE-1563356602497

“This committee is mandated to decide whether the submitted application satisfies conditions or not, based on a number of standards approved by the committee,” the official said.

However, he said that “any number of applications submitted, can be accepted for the indicated categories, and that all applicants who satisfy the set conditions and standards will benefit with no hinders.”

On May 15, the authority announced three new services: a six-month visa with several trips to complete the procedures for residency of an investor, a six-month visa with several trips to complete long-term residency procedures for both entrepreneurs and outstanding students, a six-month visa with only one trip to complete the residency procedures for the talented individuals.

Even the authority said it received around 6,000 applications within 15 days of its announcements from investors and entrepreneurs in the first week of taking in applications for long-term residency visas.

The visit visa helps them identify opportunities available in their field of interest and allow them to study their options and take the most appropriate decision for themselves and their family members.

Foreign Nationals Can Now Apply for a 6-month, Multiple-Entry Visit Visa Outside UAE

In line with this, the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (FAIC) announced that people staying outside the UAE can now apply for the country’s six-month multiple-entry visa, as shared in a report by the Khaleej Times .

Through this new update, investors, entrepreneurs, professionals and talented or outstanding students can now apply for the visa via the FAIC’s online channels, as this type of visa is dedicated to those looking to obtain the UAE’s long-term visas of up to 10 years.

The six-month visit visa is renewable for another six months. This visa aims to provide eligible applicants the opportunity to visit the country and review the facilities and environment in which they are most likely to be engaged in. Through this, applicants can then study their options before making a residency decision for themselves and their families.

According to Major-General Saeed Rakan Al Rashidi, director-general of foreigner affairs and ports at the FAIC, the six-month visa holders can also get their Emirates ID so that they can open bank accounts and register properties.

For those who can take advantage of this type of visa, making it in the UAE will be the first step in the completion of their dreams. Because not only will the country provide the kind of environment where they can expand and scale career heights, but there’s also the possibility of becoming a permanent resident in the country, if the individual’s qualifications and achievements extends beyond him/herself and create an impact in the UAE society during their period of stay in the country.

It is illegal to bring pork products or pornography into the UAE. Videos, books, and magazines may be subject to scrutiny and may be censored.

Medication

There are strict rules about what medications can be brought into the UAE. You will need approval from the UAE authorities to bring in medication that the UAE classes as narcotic, psychotropic, controlled or semi-controlled.

You must request approval in advance to bring in medication. Apply online using the electronic application form on the UAE Ministry of Health website. The UAE authorities advise that applications are normally processed within 5 working days.

If you arrive in the UAE without evidence of prior approval, the medication will not be allowed into the UAE and you may be prosecuted. For information on controlled medicines or the process for obtaining permission, contact the UAE Ministry of Health on [email protected] or call +971 800 11111.

In all cases, there are limits on the amount of medication that can be brought into the UAE legally. The Ministry of Health advise you can bring up to 3 months’ supply of medication as a visitor, reduced to one month’s supply if the medication is included in the list requiring approval.

You do not need to complete this approval process if you are only transiting airside through a UAE airport and will not pass through UAE immigration to enter the UAE.

Tourists in the UAE on a 30 or 60 days visit visa can extend their stay within the country by another 30 days. The decision by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) grants visitors an additional 30 days to explore and enjoy the country’s diverse offerings.

The UAE has implemented several changes in its visa procedures since October last year, marking one of the largest residency and entry permit reforms by the ICP (Immigration and Citizenship Program). Since then, several developments have taken place in the visit visa system of the country.

As per the ICA website, individuals holding a visit visa of 30 or 60 days will now be eligible for an additional 30-day stay, and the maximum extension period for a visit visa holder is 120 days.

A call centre representative of Amer Centre said that a visit visa extension within the country is possible and “one must contact their visa issuing agent to for the extension."

Maximum extension

According to a call centre representative at ICP, it is possible to obtain a visa extension within the country for a period of 30 days. This extension applies to both long-term and short-term visit visas. However, it is important to note that the total duration of stay within a year should not exceed 120 days.

The call centre executive clarified, “If a visitor is on a 30 days visa, the extension can be possible up to 120 days (30 days on each extension),” added the executive.

Procedure for extension

"If a tourist or a visitor would like to extend their stay, they should contact the issuing travel agent or sponsor," said Firose Khan, operation manager at Arabian Business Centre.

"Your sponsor or travel agent who issued the visa can provide you with information on the extension process, required documentation, fees, and any other relevant details. It's important to initiate this process well before your current visa's expiration to allow sufficient time for the extension to be processed," added Khan.

Documentation required

The visitor’s passport is required to extend a visit visa. The issuing agent will provide more details on the required documents.

Time duration for extension

The process may take a few days from submitting the documents depending on your travel agent who applies for the service. However, on the ICP website, the “time to complete the service after its requirements are completed is 48 hours,”

Extension charges:

“The cost of extension for a month is Dh1,050,” said Khan.

The GDRFA elaborated the costs of extension and gave a breakdown of the rates on their website.

Visa extension fee: Dh600, in addition to the value-added tax (5%).

Additional fees (if the sponsored person is inside the country):

Knowledge dirham : Dh10

Innovation dirham : Dh10

Fee inside the country: Dh500

The website also mentioned, “The total amount of the visa may vary depending on the circumstances surrounding the sponsored person or for any other reasons that may require that,”

On ICP website, the cost vary.

Request fee: Dh100

Issuance fee: Dh500, and other related charges are applicable.

The website also mentions the application for an extension of entry permit for tourism is made through the tourism companies. Agents have urged the visitors to leave the country before the visa expiry or extend their visas to avoid attracting any penalties or difficulties while exiting.

This extension caters to various purposes, including tourism, family visits, business meetings, and other personal matters. "Visitors can utilise this extra time to explore the country's iconic landmarks, indulge in shopping, savour culinary delights, or simply relax in the UAE's world-class hospitality," said Khan.

Visit Visa Extension Dubai

In late 2023, the UAE authorities introduced several significant updates to the visa mechanism, with changes covering such aspects of it as family sponsorship, visa validity duration, entry and exit rules, visa extension, and more. As such, if you are planning to visit and spend time in Dubai in 2024, you are highly recommended to get familiar with the implemented changes, as they provide not only new options for extending your visa but also new regulations associated with them. In this guide, we will explore the new Dubai visit visa extension rules to provide you with all the information you may need.

Updates to Visit Visa Extension Rules in 2024

Globally known for its unique tourist attractions, skyscraper skyline, man-made islands, and luxury waterfront lifestyle, Dubai has recently revised its visa extension policies to simplify the process for tourists. From 2024, travelers coming to the city on a visit visa will have the option to extend their stay, allowing them to take full advantage of Dubai’s numerous offered opportunities for an extended time without the fear of getting in trouble with the authorities. Here are the key changes with regard to the visit visa extension.

  • Under the new rules, the validity period of a UAE visit visa can currently be prolonged for an extra 30 days, with the option to do so twice every 30 days. As such, visitors can now extend their stay in Dubai for up to 4 months (120 days) within a calendar year. On the one hand, this is the largest possible duration you can extend a visit visa to, on the other hand, it allows for quite a considerable amount of time added to achieve your visit goals.
  • The UAE continues to increase the country’s attractiveness to foreign visitors, and a big part of this effort is the strive for the digitization of public services, including those related to visa governance. The new online visa management system created under this effort provides a great tool for all operations involving visas. Using a personal online account, you can manage your visas and entry permits from wherever you are.
  • At the same time, not all the recent changes are aimed at tourist convenience. For example, under the newly introduced regulations, a tourist visa can only extended after exiting the country. This mandates visa holders to leave UAE’s territory for at least a day in order to be eligible for visa renewal. Fortunately, this process can be simplified by using airport-to-airport (A2A) services. Additionally, holders of a visit visa with a 90-day validity period can also extend it for another 90 days.

Guide to Extending Your Dubai Visit Visa

Although the online and offline procedures of Dubai visa extension differ in some aspects, they also involve several common steps that are necessary for achieving success.

1. Ensuring Eligibility

This step is vital because none of the following ones are relevant if you’re not eligible for a visa extension in the first place. The key eligibility factors to check for are:

  •  Having a passport with a minimum 6-month validity period after the expiry of your first visa extension
  •  Holding citizenship of one of the countries eligible for visa extension
  •  Having a return ticket purchased in advance
  •  Having the financial capacity sufficient to stay in the Emirates for an extended period

2. Preparing the Required Paperwork

Once you’ve confirmed that you’re eligible for extending your visit visa, the next step is to prepare and gather all the documents necessary for the extension process.

  •  Valid passport
  •  Copy of the biodata and UAE visa pages of your passport
  •  Recently made passport-size photo
  •  Copy of your purchased entry and return tickets
  •  Confirmation of adequate funds (bank statement, sponsor letter, etc.)
  •  Filled-out application form (for offline procedure)

Online Visa Extension Method and Procedures

If you’ve completed the first two steps and choose to extend your visit visa online, the next steps are as follows:

  • Visit the online platform of Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) and log in.
  • Find the “Visa Extension” section.
  • Select the option matching your goals and travel documents.
  • Retrieve your visa data by entering your passport details.
  • Enter all the information required in the application form.
  • Upload and attach the necessary documents to the application.
  • Pay the service fees online using your bank card (visa extension fee and additional fees, if applicable).
  • Submit the application.
  • Wait for the application to be processed. The estimated time is 2-5 workdays.
  • Get your extended visa from the designated place, such as a visa service center.

Offline Visa Extension Method and Procedures

In the case of choosing to extend your visa offline, the next steps are as follows:

  • Find the nearest GDRFA office (or the most preferable in terms of convenience) and visit it with all the documents you’ve prepared beforehand.
  • Submit the completed application form along with the said documents.
  • Follow any other instructions provided by the GDRFA employees.
  • Pay the relevant service fees.
  • Get your extended visa from the designated place specified by the GDRFA employees.

By using this guide, you should have no problems extending your visa and your visit to Dubai, as long as you meet the eligibility criteria and have all the necessary papers in order.

Visa Expiry Fines and Penalties

Recently, the UAE immigration authorities have discarded the 10-day grace period option for extended visitor visas. The overstaying fine is AED 50 per day, and you will also have to pay an additional AED 250-350 upon exiting the country. On top of that, as failing to comply with the visa regulations is against the law, you may face legal consequences, such as:

  • Being marked in the UAE visa system. This may affect both your future visits to the UAE and to other countries, as the relevant authorities may deem you unreliable and be reluctant to grant you entry or residency permits.
  • Being blacklisted. If you overstay your visit to a certain degree, you can get banned from entering the Emirates ever again.
  • Being deported. In a really bad overstaying case, you can get sent back to your home country. Both this and the previous cases can heavily impact your ability to obtain visas to other countries and drastically limit your traveling options.

In order to prevent the said consequences and to avoid overstaying, adhere to the following guidelines:

  •  Take precautions such as learning the exact day of your visa expiry.
  •  Keep track of the days you have left under your visit visa.
  •  Make sure you have enough time on your hands to complete the planned activities and prepare for your leave.
  •  Be cautious not to schedule any trips or vacations for the last couple of days of your stay.

Remember that each day of overstaying will not only cost you more money but also increase the possibility of more severe legal consequences. As such, if you happen to fail to leave the UAE in due time, you should act upon it promptly and take the necessary actions.

This guide should help you stay informed about the latest changes in the UAE’s visa extension rules and take the appropriate steps to comply with the current regulations when planning your stay in Dubai. If you plan on extending your visit visa, research your eligibility for this option, prepare the documents as mandated by the authorities, and remember not to overstay your welcome in order to avoid legal and financial consequences.
